I personally like getting smaller plants and watching them grow and mature but there are some where I just had to buy the big ones because they were just too gorgeous to wait!

same! ideally i’d like to buy rooted node cuttings with one leaf! and go from there
that and leaves grown in your care are more stable and reliable compared to getting a mature plant and watching the leaves fall off in transit :(
I also like getting smaller plants, but when i look at them the next day, i feel the urge to get the bigger/mature version 🤣
I would actually prefer to buy small and cheaper because waiting for it to grow in my care is one of my favorite things. And it means I can actually but a rare plant in a price I am actually able to pay.

A video on diagnosing plant problems would be great! I'd also be interested in hearing what you do as far as lighting--how to choose grow lights, how much light/how long/how far from the plants. And your "aggressive" pest control as well (if it is anything that can be used at home).
Kaylee - Anthurium Besseae leaf issue is due to high nutrients or too many total dissolved solids in the water being used. I have gotten this exact problem when they are put on either 1) high feed levels or 2) using tap water. Once they are flushed with rain water or RODI - the leaves return to normal within pushing out 1-2 new leaves. Hope that helps! :)
I had a similar problem with a pesticide I used at one point. Only one species reacted this way, luckily only one leaf turned out malformed. Never happened again after I stopped spraying it
About the mysterious change in appearance depending on the distance - it's the light :D When there are no shadows falling on the face everyone looks better. Use stronger light :)

I love buying juvenile plants, particularly for less common / pricier options! I like seeing the transformation into more mature plants & it’s taught me a lot about the growing process (plus saving a bit of money in comparison to a mature, uncommon plant)

Please, please, please do a video on Leca and hydroponics. I’d love to learn more about how you use your self watering pots and the pros and cons. Leca is all the rage, but I would love to hear more about whether this is a good option long term or for mature plants
Plants naturally live in soil. They grow much better & not need much nutrients to put in.
@@masmad8561 I would disagree. My plants grow much faster and healthier in leca. No pests, no root rot and extremely healthy roots because of all the aeration. Just because plants grow naturally in soil, doesn't make it better. Plants also don't grow naturally indoors, but here we are.

yes! i love that idea of diagnosing plant problems. and a video suggestion i have is if you could do a video talking about really thirsty plants that would benefit more from self watering pots or should be watered more than others i would love that! and vice versa of course 😊
I'm a big fan of buying smaller and less pricey for most things. It saves money but also lets you see the transition from immature to maturity which is always exciting.

Just found your channel a week ago and I think you’re great! Great tips and information and super helpful but also you’re so real! I feel plant youtubers can be so “bubbly” and happy and it’s kind of unrealistic. You are so relatable and it’s so nice to see!
I've noticed that when I'm at a low point mentally, I look around and see my plants struggling too. They always seem to go through a cycle monthly as do I. It's very interesting how they can really clean themselves up after a low. I find it inspiring. I've wondered if it's just due to my perspective but things like crispy or un scheduled drooping leaves are definitive, we can't be our best selves all the time. lol

I like the option of buying small to medium sized plants 🪴. If they are expensive plants I tend to buy the smaller ones for affordability.

Omg my Crystalinum did that with a leaf! To this day I still can’t figure out why. PLEASE do a diagnosis video/investigation. Would love that, especially because the comments have confused me even more now as to what it could be 😂

Major thrip damage… I can’t buy any more plants until I get it under control. In Canada we don’t have the same chemicals available to those in the states. No systematics or organic like captain jacks.

Some syngonium take ages to acclimatise and start growing. I'm not a fan of the Strawberry Ice either. An informative video about plant problems would be great! I would also love to see the gnarly worst of the worst
The deformed twisted leaves on the anthurium cud be magnesium or iron deficiency.
Love this type of video ! People get so obsessed with seeing 'perfect' plants its nice to see the queen herself having some that don't look perfect haha. The deformed anthurium leaves I think is a calcium deficiency, it sometimes affects the edges of the older leaves as well as the new growth looking funky.
Thank you for showing these... A couple of problems im also having so it's good to know I'm not alone! I really enjoy people talking about imperfect plants and the their struggles.
I spotted a Ben! As a beginner plant mom it is really good to hear how even professionals like you don't always know what's up. I loved the beginning of the video so funny! You looked beautiful but I find personally that sometimes far away you see certain things like dark circles more xD
My anthurium clarinerviun started to grow deformed leaves when the pot had become too small for its roots. I repotted it into a bigger pot and the issue went away.
recently i did so and it started growing well
I hate all those pink syngoniums. They look like internal organs to me.

Yes, we want the gnarly stuff :) Unpopular opinion but Syngonium's in general do not appeal to me, my mum loves them though. Hope the week to come is better for you
Totally used to feel the same-but…the pink ones give nice breakup and contrast to a large collection. Some like Syngonium ‘Neon Robusta’ and ‘Pink Perfection’ are really stunning nestled into a collection of green plants.
I get where you’re coming from though-for me, something just switched and frankly, they’re so easy to grow that it makes them a welcome break from the fussier plants.
I go for bady plants that cost less, so I can save for more plants😉🤗at least I have the privilege of acclimating them to my space and I watch them getting bigger every time!

Great video, would definitely be up for seeing the gnarliest plants in a future video. I am with you on the Strawberry Ice, does not appeal to me at all. As to the preferred size of plants when buying, if I am in a plant shop I will happily buy a small plant, but if purchasing online then I would go for the inbetween size you mentioned, purely because the plant has to be sent. I did Google Monstera Burle Marx Flame, found an interesting article, what a plant when mature PS. did Ben manage to get the scissor lift working in the end ? 😃
I find that my leaves come out deformed like that if they need more water while it's growing that leaf. But I could be wrong, it just works for me
Same for me. I try to spray the new leaf too a bit, as it’s being pushed out. That *seems* to have helped some.
Yes to diagnosing plant problems, maybe especially with leca? I transitioned a few plants over 3 months ago and my silver sword and syngonium frost keep getting root rot every month or so, and idk how to prevent it in the future.

About the syngonium, why not have a cheap, selling because they grow poorly, buy at your own risk, type of sale?

I'm guessing her business ethos is to only sell quality products. She does not want to release a low quality product because you would be surprised... Even with the "buy at your own risk" label I am sure some Muppet out there will complain online and upload photos. It would affect her brand reputation.
Buy at your own risk is good for garage sales, big box stores and local nurseries.
You won't see Chanel, LV, Hermes selling poor quality handbags that had defects in manufacturing for a quick sale. They would simply destroy them and take on the losses rather than risk blemishing their brand.
In the world of plants, if you consider big box stores as retail, then The Rare Plant shop would be "luxury".
I have issues with my syngonium too, it looked so full then it got more and more sparse looking:/ I love growing plants from nodes and cuttings because they're affordable and you can watch them grow:)
I loveee the small gloriosum!! It's so cute and i enjoy seeing small plants grow mature. So i would rather buy it as it is right now and for a lower price
I have the same issue with M. lechleriana, it's most definitely caused by too much light. For the syngonium I would try a dark corner as well, see if it pushes out a new leaf within 10 days or so ;)

Anthurium leaves curl and deform like that in high temperatures
can you update us on your TC?
When I get something that grows slow I try to put it on a pole to speed it up. Might be worth it to get more mature leaves out of that flame.
You've mentioned some plants that can grow from stumps. I would love to see a whole video with more information on this topic. :)

In this video: Kaylee learns about the power of lighting - you looked better close up because the brightness of the light made your skin look more evenly coloured, at distance it added darkness under your eyes and cheekbones.The background is very bright - perhaps that's why you switched to the dark bg in later videos

I have a syngonium Maria that just willnot unfurl the new leaves they grow and pop out but never unfurl all the way. My cream illusion and white butterfly both act totally normal. And all 3 are in the same place.
I think your anthurium need more magnesium. I find my anthurium need high magnesium in semi hydro. Without it I get deformed leaves - same goes with my alocasias
Minute 12. Anthurium issues where the side of the leaf turns yellow and dries out often caused by over watering (high tds water) and over fertilizing (chemical). Too much light normall only makes the tip of the leaf to dry out. However you can slowly make it adapt to receive more and more light overtime. Once it adapted, it grows very very fast. But you may lose some leafs during the adaptation process.

Let me know if you hate this idea, but I think it would be fun, and also educational, to do a video on rare plants that actually don't exist. I've recently heard of a 'Japanese variegated global pothos' and finding any REAL information is impossible, and I totally dug it when you shed light on the whole Florida 'mint' situation.
I prefer to buy plants when they are smaller, especially for more expensive ones.
I also like to go in the middle as well. Sometimes you can find plants bigger than the juvenile/baby plants for a price that is affordable hehe.
I would love an instructional video on problems with various plants and remedies.

love to see your videos. lechuza is to heavy for building roots syngonium, monsteras, philodendrons and the problem very often is, that the lechuza has fertilizer in it.
and........ sometimes, when we propagate at wrong time, the plants are sh.t very often, don´t grow, look äääh.

Most likely because I'm a student, I buy small/medium plants. Lately I bought a bunch of chonks from rarer plants where there was no way I could afford both the plant AND the shipping cost. With a close eye on them, I slowly get a handle on what each plant needs. And I'm less likely to mismanage it when it gets bigger. That being said, I occasionally have a rogue Anthurium or Alocasia that seems to insist on defying logic.
Would love to see a time lapse of the wall.

Thanks God im living in tropical country. i just put it and then they grow healthy.
No extra care.
No complicated planting tools.
Just i put under the tree and watering them every 3 days or a week.

I got that kind of curling leaf too, so i changed to a bigger pot and kept them moist all the time, also misting them twice a week gives them new big happy uncrispy tips leaf... Just sharing my experience.
I'm accumulating Hoya through clippings. I love to watch them grow and did my available space and smaller budget, this works much better for me.
i always associate the twisted leaves to a water problem when the leaf was hardening off. like if it were to get too dry during the hardening off period ive had several plants with large leaves(which are just easier to mangle and transpire lots of water) do this.

I've just started adding liquid calcium with trace elements 2-3 months and getting some of that gnarly and dried bits as well so I'm suspecting excessive minerals but could be the high temperature too from the recent heat spell in the tropics. We are entering the cool rainy season now and I've decided to continue with the feed so that I can't eliminate either heat or feed.

I have an Anthurium that experienced deformity as well. An old (now past old) friend said to be extremely consistent/regular with it... especially during the new leaf phase. It was a pain, but through trial and error (and about 5 leaves) I finally found the amount of water he preferred AND the timing!! During a new growth period, he preferred more waterings of less, totalling the amount normally given. in a sense, instead of a proper amt in the morning, I would split it into two or three throughout the day... once the leaf hardened off, I returned him to his regularly scheduled program.
I have no idea if it will work with yours, but it may be worth a try. All the best to you and yours!

Hey Kelly! I have a similar looking syngonium and she is doing the same thing yours is doing. I have 3 other syngo that are totally fine! I decided researching it and found that aroids tend to not unfurl properly when they lack calcium. I am gonna try to give them a TUMs slurry and see what happens. Good luck!

Alright...Terrible" cracked me right up😂 (you look great by the way!) also I think the Syngonium Strawberry Ice's know you hate them and are on strike 😂 I think when they have a lot of the pink coming through they are stunning but I get theat the muddier leaves aren't the cutest when it's the majority of the plant, but the right plant with lots of pink I would love to have one!
