This is exactly what I've been making plans to do. I liked the Wendigo but wanted it as a crawler / basher. With the factory motor and ESC I could tell it would be no good for Crawling. My plan was to install the Holmes BL and Mamba X and gear down so you nailed what I wanted to try. Unfortunately all plans went on hold from the Covid 19 stuff as I am unsure if work will continue to be available so I am quite disappointed. Was super pumped to purchase. I live in Canada and only recently got into RC. Purchased a Redcat Everest 10 for crawling and love it and now want more. Want Wendigo for camping and back yard stuff. Want the Capra for my Crawler and then the E10 will be for my son. You are the 1st person Ive ever really subscribed too and have since subscribed to a few other channels as well.
Really great family time, don't over look the Ridgerock $109.00 to $120.00 (5 in the family) i have a few others to choose from but mostly run the ridge 4WS fun out of the box but I added DSSERVO's 20kg Mudslinger 2.2 XL tires on stock bead locks & 3s lipo ... they sell out pretty fast but always make more. spektrum smart all the way
I recently installed a Limited Edition Castle Copperhead ESC with Castle 1412 3200kv motor in my Wendigo. With that setup, a 13T pinion, and a 3s LiPo, the Wendigo is much more versatile: it now crawls well and still has a decent top end. It's the vehicle I hoped it would be.
I put a ten shooter and mamba x, a set of weighted beadlocks with otsix usd stickies, and made my own servo mount on the front axle out of 1/8 inch steel plate. I'm currently waiting on longer screws for the servo/control arm mounts.
That's way closer to what this truck should be... I think a lot of folks would get this vehicle thinking this is what it can do stock... then learn the difference between sensored and sensorless. Maybe redcat could do an axe edition with axe 3300kv 550, the gt5 radio and reefs servo would of had the adaptive drag brake for coming off the high speed squirt... It's definitely a way better vehicle now though. Good job. Cheers mate 👍
I bought the builders kit with axe 550 2700kv and reefs raw 500 I will use the fly sky that came with my gen8 axe since receivers are so inexpensive and can save 20 models. I have not built it yet as most of it arrived today and I have not finished all my assignments that are due on Sunday. 🤓
Those were some VERY worthwhile improvements on that truck. Crawling capabilities were vastly improved while its velocity peaks did not appear to be at all compromised. If I'm correct; it's 'only' about $315 to do it? Wow!
LoL yeah lucky for me I’ve got a bunch of stock laying around. Issue is I’m running out of stock and will have to buy more stuff soon. That’s going to hurt the wallet.
You can also upgrade plastic spur gear to steel one Robinson Racing # 8845 it’s same as Gen8. Nice upgrades! I have that motor in my trx4 it crawls and goes fast perfect for trail rigs.
Great, thx. Now I see I'm gonna HAVE TO get the windego! LOL! That was my original concern. If it would/could crawl. Too, did I miss "crawler mode"? Lastly, I just noticed the face on the 1 flat rock! 👏👏👏
That's an awesome setup for that rig, imo. I like the idea of making it more capable on both ends of the spectrum. Nice!! The GT5 should be the new RTR standard across the board. That thing is awesome. My Kaiju is getting it's GT5 receiver today, should make a huge difference!
Can you elaborate more on how the wiring and channel 4 works with the receiver? It looks like you used the aux wire on the esc wiring. Just looking for some clarity thanks in advance!!!
I just used Ch4 on the receiver, set the aux wire up for crawl/race and use the switch to move it from one setting to another. Nothing really hard to setup on this.
I put shorter wider tires/rims and nailed the handling, those 2.2 make it fall over to much at speed. Now with shorter wider tires and my 2s and 3100kv im happy crawling and zipping fast.
I basically made my wendigo into a AXE. Metal gears ,2300kv ,gt5, Reef its still fast but could use more if you have open area. I wanted the Holmes but it was outta stock so good to see might try that on my other wendigo.
Hey great video. Thank you for showing this set up! I was waiting to see how Holmes ran his with a 4100kv! 😳 but now I’m sold. I’ve never had a castle esc. Are they always that noisy?
I'm surprised, you dont use air compressor , I been using fortress quiet series , dam I just ordered those Ph batts they great so if I got to Amazon from here it helps ?does have be from a link you posted if not I'd rather support you guys I just ordered alot stuff be ordering more
I think my mother in-law may actually be a Windigo , On another note , I just got my new crawlmaster sport 550 ( 15 t ) any suggestions on how to brake it in ?
I’d just run it easy for the first 8 minutes and then run it like normal. Easy as in don’t stall it, but otherwise just drive it. It’s slow like a 55t normal motor so you may have to gear or volt it up a bit
Looks perfect and fun for trail running

Now that's what I call a "barrel roll" lol! Never seen anything like that before, was super cool!
Anti-gravity scene was pretty. A lot better on the slow end👍👍. Enjoyed the step-up Hill climb. Great video

That is exactly what that truck needed
Looks like a great system for that rig 👍

Interesting sir great video as always my friend well done
You made a cool truck into an AWESOME truck!!! It seems to be front heavy, on either fast or slow descents.
yeah its too high for serious crawling
I just got one. I love it. I want to do the same. It doesn't need to go 45mph...
Great, thx. Now I see I'm gonna HAVE TO get the windego! LOL! That was my original concern. If it would/could crawl.

yeah man the gt5 is awesome for sure
Good morning brotherman 👊😷
I never ran it on stock tires ..I went straight to beadlocks and proline flat irons...
Great vid as always my rc brother 👍🏻💯 always enjoyable content
Love the content.. Just got the same motor and ESC for my wendigo.. where did you get the pinion? Link? 👏🏽🤘🏽

Sweet thank you........ can I do this with a b- link or do I have to have a computer? Sorry for the newbie questions
@@chadweisenbarger9747 I just got a blink a day or two ago and haven't used it so I don't really know, I have always used the computer for my tuning
I personally think it could be stretched a inch in total and I think it would be a lot better.
I could see that helping this one out for sure

What 4s brushless would you recommend for a rustler 4x4 that is easy to program the esc
Probably the Hobbywing xr8 sct pro, thats good to 4s and then your motor of choice, for 4S I'd stay around 3000kv
Nice 😀👍
What is the motor pinion gear you used?
stock 17t I think
Do you think that there will be aftermarket parts?
Curious how well those tires would do on your ply wood test ramp
I'd test them but all 4 are off the wheels now. Got new beadlocks on the way
@@ExocagedRC cant wait to see the test as well
Are these tires any different that what came on the gen 7 and 8?
Yeah, these are huge at 5.75" tall but the same tread pattern
what's your opinion on a castle 3800kv with sensored mamba x for the wendigo?
I basically made my wendigo into a AXE. Metal gears ,2300kv ,gt5, Reef its still fast but could use more if you have open area. I wanted the Holmes but it was outta stock so good to see might try that on my other wendigo.
How was that ax working in the Wendigo?
Have you ever tried some 2.8 mt tires on this just for fun? That would be cool to see 👍
Hey great video. Thank you for showing this set up! I was waiting to see how Holmes ran his with a 4100kv! 😳 but now I’m sold. I’ve never had a castle esc. Are they always that noisy?
Can I buy some of your take off parts ????
I keep most all of them at this point
I believe the Reefs Raw500 servo would complete that rig. The stock one now has become meh. And metal beadlocks also. 😁
Yeah or 422. I would like to see this rig with all Axe edition electronics
yeah it could but I don't think the stock servo is limiting the steering, it seems to be the axle hub design.
I'm surprised, you dont use air compressor , I been using fortress quiet series , dam I just ordered those Ph batts they great so if I got to Amazon from here it helps ?does have be from a link you posted if not I'd rather support you guys I just ordered alot stuff be ordering more
I want to love it and make it a bouncer but it seems to be very tipsy and unstable.
You were killing the spur, not spinning the slipper.
the spur gear is fine
I think my mother in-law may actually be a Windigo ,
On another note , I just got my new crawlmaster sport 550 ( 15 t ) any suggestions on how to brake it in ?

First 🤘🏻 nice video
Looks like it was wrapped by MaxAmps
Awesome.. Haha
This isn’t a crawler and not a rock racer so what is it?
thats the interesting part, I really don't know LOL I just see it as a Trail Basher
This should be sensored out of the box.
yeah I agree
Like the set up but it just is still not set up for crawling
I like the truck but it seems like it rolls over alot and end over end. I think it's not a wise choice.
How not to use a scaler .....
*how to use a rock racer*
Wvr is fun
Those tires suck
