No no no Steve, the Chinese were bang out of order, they cannot arrive to a public place in London and start telling the TH-camr to stop filming them because they say so 😡 and he was not racist. They need to respect the laws and customs of the country they are visiting like we have to whilst in Thailand.

Kavanagh was totally justified in his actions. He was entertaining in a very busy public space clearly being filmed. The Chinese party wandered into his frame & demanded he stop filming. He did very reasonably explain to them his right to film in a public place & he only escalated when they in no uncertain terms told him to stop. I believe certain nationalities use our western sensibilities about causing offence against us & used this to scream racism & assault which all done for effect & paint themselves as victims of a man who's only crime was playing the piano

Agreed. Completely calm and made a few mistakes in confusing them with Japanese, who were also there with the old boy. However, these 2 on this channel completely miss the point.
Policewoman 0502 is totally corrupt in asking Dr K to turn off the camera so she could bully him.
The Chinese were CCP shills ready to wave their CCP flags despite living in U.K.

I disagree that reaction on Kavanaugh has been polarised. It’s been overwhelmingly on one side - even in Chinese social media. If you read Weibo (and there are TH-cam videos translating the top Weibo comments on this), you will find the top mainland Chinese comments are supportive of Kavanaugh and critical of the Chinese (eg “wow, these guys make us lose face so much”). Also, you perhaps don’t realise that there is overwhelming support for Kavanaugh over the Chinese in Hong Kong and Taiwan. Always enjoy commentary from you guys on Thailand but not convinced you have your fingers on the pulse in Chinese matters (or UK ones, for that matter).

Hello, During this video, if a group of Chinese was in your background came up to you ,& demanded that you have NO RIGHT to film them & that you have to stop your live stream. How would you react ? I am a Chinese & I love China ( my dad was born in Fujian ). However, I don't have respect for the CCP. The lockdown in China was too long & many suffered compared to the rest of the world opening up. The Chinese government did not keep its one country 2 systems in HK & it threatens to take Taiwan by force. I had watched numerous videos about the incident @ St. Pancras Station. Brendon was Harassed by that Nasty Moron, falsely accused if racism, inappropriate sexual advance ( don't touch her when he was pointing to the flag). He was threatened with legal action . It was abnormal for the false accusation " don't touch her & you are not her age " to be repeated a dozen times . He was trying to draw attention . You 2 have not read the thousands of comments in support of Brendan. You are entitled to your opinion but you should be aware that this is not a storm in a tea cup & the CANERA does not lie. Did you see that nice Chinese lady's version of the confrontation? It was full of spin & lies - so typical of CPP members. When you said you do not take sides you should be amply informed of the facts. THE CAMERA DOES NOT LIE - especially on live stream. The nice Chinese lady said it was edited & defamed Brendan. How would You 2 feel if you that was done to you ? Just Block her out without defending yourselves?

Yeah na, you got the CCPiano situation skewed. BK was originally perfectly polite and accommodating in the full vid. He sprung up quickly from the piano, when asked by another person if the Chinese folk could play. When he was told 'politely' that they did not approve of him having them in his background shot, he was taken aback. They were barely noticeable and mostly off shot. He simply replied that as it was a public place, in the UK, they did not need to give consent. That should have been the end of it. The comment about the communist flag and the loud Brit Chinese minder threat alleging BK touching a "woman who was not the same age" just left the rails. The real shit show meriting comment, was the transit police woman who, as per the new UK policing narrative, was telling BK he couldn't use the term Chinese or communist - brought the entire farce into perfect outrage focus. BK couldn't have orchestrated this if he tried and as Steve said his acting skills are not good enough to pull off faux surprise - this was a real reaction and he remained calm yet firm. Tea cup storm now offered up to the partisans of the you tube realm to go apeshit. Mere actors in the theatre that is modern day Offence Olympics. His follow up videos on the matter are milking the cow undoubtedly.

At one moment the Chinese were enjoying the music as people without ideology, and then they changed demanding to have there images scrubbed. What seems likely is that their handler told them that they could have problems with the CCP when they returned to China.

Hi, I enjoy watching your programme guys but you were SO WRONG on your take from the Brendan Kavanagh video. The Chinese could just have moved out of the camera shot and avoided any fuss if they were so worried about having their "images captured". Brendan was perfectly within his rights to play piano in public. I agree with an earlier comment below that your views were "one-sided". Watch later videos from Brendan that include information from other Chinese people about what was going on, including the likely identity of the Chinese. He explains why he referred to them as Japanese due to knowing a Japanese TV crew that were standing with/near the Chinese. There was no racism intended either. Here is some education for you gentlemen (Not sarcastic) and I do not expect you to know this but you did feel free to comment about it. :)
The Chinese flag they were using is a communist flag created in 1949 at the culmination of the Chinese Communist Revolution.
The red literally represents the Chinese Communist Revolution.
The large star literally represents the Chinese Communist Party.
According to one of the Chinese people in the group (from their equivalent TH-cam account in China), they were there to record a video as well for a Chinese company to provide for use by the CCTV New Year's Gala in China that is watched by nearly 2 billion people every year.
Ironically, the instructions they received from the Chinese company (once again from her account) had a non-disclosure agreement that required them to record covertly.(She did not expect people in the west to be able to read the things she was posting)
So basically, they were upset someone was recording them in a livestream while they intended to record in public covertly to distribute to a show that literally holds the world record for the world's most watched television program. That is why they had the flags.
Anyway. Love your show!! Also, you two also educate me at times as well so kudos!!

I spent 3 years in China. There is a lot in this video. When I saw the situation at St. Pancras Station, I was reminded strongly of how the Chinese government do not respect other people’s freedoms and rights, only their own. In China, when a man is shouting like that, it is often accompanied by some kind of brutal violence, and watching the video for the first time, I was sure that's what was going to happen !
    ---------------------------------------------
So I see Brendan's defense, saying "We're in a free country, mate, we’re not in communist China now" where British laws and social norms apply, as being fair, not racist. He was threatened in two ways : firstly, legal action, and secondly, being shouting at in an intimidating way. The Chinese were twice in the wrong : what they asked for and the legal action they threatened regarding image rights is not in accordance with the law, and the threat of intimidation was made on the basis of a false accusation : that Brendan had done something (touched his colleague) which he had not done (he touched her flag) So I think the Chinese owe Brendan an apology. I think Brendan could even take legal action, which might surprise the British police. The CCP arrogance is laid bare in that Chinese woman’s final repeated remark : “Who are you ?” China is a top-down society : it’s not equal.
Racism ? The CCP like to use this issue, in the same way the Party has tried to teach / preach that for centuries the Chinese people were used and abused by foreign powers, and now they must rise up and even the score. It's given some of them what we would call, "a chip on the shoulder" .
    ------------------------
Having said Brendan was justified, he is of course a real stirrer, an attention-seeking guy. There’s a lot about Brendan that’s provocative. And I would expect a performer like him who regularly plays at a public piano, and who livestreams on TH-cam, to be this type of guy, and to be trying to make as much out of it as he can. But it is also true that the Chinese guy was provocative. It must have occurred to him, and indeed I’m sure he would have been told, that the video was being live-streamed, so his demands could not possibly be met ! Plus the false accusation, the intimidation, and the cries of racism. He quite possibly lied to police as well.
    ----------------------------------------------------
POSTSCRIPT : In China, everyone is scared of the government, and their representatives. If such an incident arose there, all citizens would obey. The government keeps records on everybody, and control is the goal. The Chinese government also spies on people in foreign countries who they believe don't like them. Unfortunately, that is possibly the next thing for Brendan : he will have to look out. The Chinese government usually plays the man, not the ball. This could go on for some time.

The current flag of China is certainly a communist flag; it did not exist prior to China's communist revolution of 1949. The big star on the flag SPECIFICALLY represents the communist party of China and the red color represents the communist revolution; the four smaller stars represent four classes of citizens based on communist ideology. The flag's design was based on a speech by Mao Zedong about the People's Democratic Dictatorship and was first raised by the People's Liberation Army at Tiananmen Square during a ceremony proclaiming the establishment of the People's Republic of China.
You may be surprised to learn that communism began in Russia (a competing design for communist China's flag featured the hammer and sickle) and there are Chinese people all over the world who are not communists. There are also many Caucasian communists in the US and western Europe (eastern Europe largely learned their lesson!). Therefore, it is in no way "racist" to accuse people displaying a communist flag of being communists; claiming otherwise suggests you are racist for thinking that "communist" is synonymous with Chinese ancestry.
In addition to the flag, the authoritarian bullying tactics employed by the Chinese man (including trying to get the police to stop the youtuber from exercising his right to film in public and to force him to delete his video footage) also suggests he is communist, since it is generally people with ties/allegiance to the CCP who behave like this in China. It is also a well known CCP tactic to accuse any non-Chinese person who criticizes them of being "racist" (as did the shouting man). By the way, Chinese citizens largely support the youtuber and have criticized, ridiculed, and doxed the Chinese antagonists on Chinese social media (which would not be permitted if the CCP was not also embarrassed by their behavior).
It would also not be racist to say the man who was shouting about his non-existent "image rights" and threatening to sue (and accusing the youtuber of being some sort of sexual predator for trying to touch one of the flags held by a woman) of being rude and disrespectful of the customs and laws of the nation in which he was a guest. You are rightfully quick to condemn farang tourists who are disrespectful of Thai customs and laws; it seems racist of you to not expect Asian people to demonstrate similar courtesy in western countries. This is the bigotry of low expectations that many Caucasians exhibit toward people of color.

I agree with most of your comment. However there has never been a communist country as described by Marx and Engels. There have been aspirations that seem to degrade into totalitarian dictatorships with oligarchs stealing the wealth and brainwashing the people with nationalist fables. I would like to make one more comment in regard to the China story. In the past, Tim has time and time again shown that he truly plays the China sympathizer in his stories and occasional commentary. There is nothing wrong with that, until you have a story about this piano thing. Of course, Tim is going to side with the Chinese. Yet, both Steve and Tim rail against farang trying to impose their "rights" in Thailand. The Chinese were doing the same thing in the UK that farang do here. Having lived in China for eight years recently, I speak very highly of the Chinese people, their country, and their culture, but I could never defend the CCP with the authoritarianism and propaganda that took place. That said, I also knew that I was a guest in their house, and I could always leave if I didn't like it (and I did).

Neither of us ‘sided’ with the Chinese. As we said, numerous times, neither of the ‘sides’ covered themselves in glory and both could have diffused the situation early on. I thought the behaviour of the main Chinese guy was appalling. As to your other comment, ‘Chinese sympathizer’ is a bit of a stretch. I just don’t automatically demonize all Chinese people without putting a story in context. I am well aware of many of the significant shortcomings of the Chinese government. I just don’t lump the entire population into the evils of the CCP.

Well, yes. I would have handled it differently and tried to de-escalate the situation… that’s my general vibe. My Kavanagh was well entitled to play the piano in a public space and the Chinese were ‘entitled’ to ask if they were in frame. From there on, it just got ramped up and should have been diffused quickly. You CAN edit live streams, after they have finished. The interruption to THIS livestream is the reason it’s doing so well. As I said, I think both ‘sides’ could have played this a lot better. But Mr Kavanagh has been clever to put out follow up videos every day since and milk this for what it’s worth. just for Tim n Steve's info here...the Little Pink's were at the train station (not a tube station) to create a Chinese New Year (pre-recorded) video and planned to play the piano, with their entourage gathered around singing a Chinese patriotic song, with their flags. This is why they were dressed as they were. This was a preapproved recording (hence why there were known CCP operatives in the background watching) that was to be shown nationally on TV in China...but passed off as a LIVE stream at new year. Why? Because the production company were concerned that a true LIVE broadcast might have some Hong Kong activist protesters holding banners in the background, and that's something they could not control or filter out. And this is why the Chinese entourage had NDA agreements that they had all signed with their production company, to keep this fact quiet (that it was pre-recorded not LIVE). They then walked over to Kav and tried to have him delete his video so they were not seen on it (or their planned LIVE stream new year hoax would have been found out). They even threatened Kav with "legal" action. Kav pointed out they were in UK, not communist China, and their NDA and legal action threats regarding image rights didn't apply in UK, or to him as they were in a free country. You might think I'm making this up, but there have been many videos on the individuals from China and who they are now appearing.

We all know why, as repression of expressing free thought is the cost of moving to Thailand. I'm sure Moral Algebra equations on this issue have been thought out. The strong variable for some is cheap cost of living and budgeting girls on $1500 USD a month. What is queer and understandable is conforming to local laws and customs. The piano man was correct standing for his rights, and for those that choose and prefer living in the Occident. He's also at liberty to disrespect his local royalty without repercussions, as it should be. God Bless the piano player and those that value and defend the tenants of free speech. Tim, you walk on egg shells and measure yourself to not violate 112. meanwhile, the other guy Jim something. whom was talking to him, said there was a japanese tv crew there, and kept repeating it. he initially thought this group ws from teh japanese film crew, especially since they were filiming him themsvlees.
they were all fine until this lady way in the background you see showed up. she is in fact a known chinese spy, i am not kidding,
the shouting guy and the lady in Red and the lady who talked to him are all linked to or at least semi linke to the CCP as it turns out and has been confirmed by numerous sources.
they literaly just came up to im and demaned to stop filming, not truly exlaing thmeslves. he was trying to understand, and explaining to them it is a public place and even told them if they don't want to be filmed they can just walk away from the camera. he stood his gorund for freedom of speech and not let them bully him with their highly maniplitive tactics.

Always amusing and entertaining with lots of "agreeing to disagree" on my part.

Couldn't agree more about the toilet...methods. After my first trip to Thailand - a mere 2 weeks - I was so grossed out about using toilet paper I bought a bidet attachment within days of being back.
As for the Kavanagh fiasco, couldn't they simply have moved out of frame? He wasn't filming with a 360 degree camera...

Regarding small children sitting in front of mum/dad on motorcycles (with no helmet of course), my old friend Peter who was a policeman and an amateur actor in the UK, came up with the term 'airbag' for this situation. Of course you can then have dual or even triple airbags.😮

When I was very young, say 15, not 79, I was amazed after reading an article about a place called "Speaker's Corner" in a place in Hyde Park in London. A person could go there with a small box to stand on and speak on any topic without threat of those in charge of taking him down. However, once the person has mounted on his box he is the target of any one to cat call, reducle, and castigate him for his speech and opinion. I thought what a wonder apace for freedom of speach. Well what we have now with "smart phones" the internet, and TH-cam is an international and unlimited "speaker corner" anywhere and at any time. It is wonderful and at the same time threatening.

Right on about the ordered food items coming out separately, sometimes 15 minutes apart. I usually assume this procedure deals with Thais sharing their food with one another instead of eating their ordered food by themselves. But...BUT it would be nice to have a couple dishes delivered together. My biggest complaint is the way steam rice is delivered...sometime 10-15 minutes before the Thai dish is delivered or it's delivered 5-10 minutes afterwards. (and I wish the waitress would return 5 minutes later and ask if "everything ok?'" (but that's an American thing).
