I’ve always asserted that the Thai Postal Service is pretty reliable and resourceful, as far as postal services go.
The average Thai person who doesn’t work in Pattaya is embarrassed by it, and thinks it’s a cesspit. They ain’t wrong.
If all Thais think that all Farang are like those in Pattaya then we are 'doomed'!
The average Thai person is more likely to have no real opinion on Pattaya
@@firstnamelastname8217 Long may that be!
Yet they very likely have a family member that went to work there
Those terrible foreign flower sellers! How dare they tarnish the reputation of Pattaya!
Tim, if you want to report on the power struggle that’s really what is behind the ganja backflip, research a fella by the name of Nawin. He’s a multi-billionaire, Governor of Buriram and best mate of Anutin. He and Anutin saw a business opportunity to legalize ganja and did so. Thanksin despises Nawin, because he went public when Thaksin left, saying bye-bye Thaksin. Every Thai with half a brain knows what no foreign commentator here in Thailand realises, and that is that Thaksin is behind the backflip on ganja and a huge part of that is taking away the hold on the industry that Nawin and Anutin have. Don’t underestimate how much influence Big T has on the current PM, who is merely a puppet doing his bidding.
So Tim Newton reporting was SPOT ON !
It's all about politics.
And politics is all about money.
Who is pulling the strings of who is hardly relevant.
BigT has the support of royalty. Otherwise he would not be out of jail this quickly.
And yes, Royalty is also all about politics.
Sounds like quite a tale ....Taksin pushes ganga flip because a couple of traders in buri ram have too much of the market. Clever how the winning party in the vote was pushed out with a fake case that the pm nominee had shares in a media company. The company was inactive and maybe leasing some of its old equipment. This is Thailand. Taksin's sister Yinglak managed to wrangle five or ten billion dollars out of the government with the fake rice support program, so that was their major success.... with zero dollars going to any farmer. wtf.
@@fhorst02lol, you think it’s hardly relevant that an ex-PM is controlling the current one? Okay 😂
@@danrobinson5252 haha..
In a military government, where the election winner is not the prime minister, and the Junta rules???
Yes.
If you have the idea there is a real democracy here in Thailand ...
You clearly didn't watch the news the last few decades.
It's all just a show.
Very nice of Peter to send you that book. And very nice of you mentioning it. I have been thinking of doing some short story writing myself.
Go for it!
I think the editor at the PMail is ChatGPT! 😂
I wish all news was delivered with the same faux incredulity and sarcasm that Tim employs :)
I know the hot topic of broccoli gets you in trouble Tim, but your best efforts to cover all the news is much appreciated. Thanks and g'day.
I have lived in pattaya for over 18 years and the kids and adults selling flowers was here 18 years ago and still is today
Maybe investing million of dollars on a Health Ministry directive wasn't the best of ideas
Thumbs up 👍 Tim
I like the high cost of flights to Samui. They keep the island from being over run with tourist like Phuket. I Like that laid back bohemian life style on samui I hope it does not change.
Great show again I watch every day
Thanks for mentioning the Netflix movie, Mother of the Bride, it was entertaining and lovely scenery... Good fun especially after some broccoli...lol

What is the impact on society of cannabis compared to alcohol and tobacco?

@@danporath536 Tobacco still has the highest preventable health burden in Australia. Alcohol is the 5th highest risk factor. Cannabis is below 30th. It's less dangerous than too much salt in your diet or getting too much sun.
Cheers Tim, that certainly told Barry.
Deplorable journalism? You continue to read these stories out on your show! I think you’ve made your point about AI generated articles and how poor they are. You need to back that up by not reading them verbatim. Surely you could paraphrase?
I am commentating about the published words. That’s what I do Sir.
Personally I think what the news is about is more important than how it is read or written. But that's just my opinion.

@@timnewtontoday It appears that an increasing proportion of the stories about Thailand out there are very poorly written (generated). You’ve rightly been picking up on this. Does this mean you will need to change what you do? Is reading out deplorable journalism good journalism? Especially when it’s becoming endemic. I think you’re better than that! I think you’d be providing a much better service by collating the news and presenting it in a professional and comprehensible way, something you are very good at, and cutting out the bs for us 😊
@@timnewtontoday What you talk? I no understand you say. 😁
I stand corrected. Gibberish doesn't help.
Want to re-list it…pass a law, otherwise they can’t. Regulate and tax, there is no public support for re-listing.
Thanks for that. But please read the various manifestos of the political parties before the last election. Of course it would to be changed ‘by law’. Is there any suggestions it wouldn’t be?
@@timnewtontoday
When Parliament passes the law…I will be satisfied. The PM can’t just declare it on his own.
@@danporath536 of course he can’t. No one has suggested he can. Asking ministers to investigate this or that is a starting point for new legislation that would eventually lead to parliamentary debate and voting, then promulgation.
@@timnewtontoday
If he wants to pretend there is a groundswell of public support for re-listing, then let a vote in Parliament prove him right. If they can’t get a law passed to do so, his party’s wants are worth a bucket of warm piss.
@@danporath536 there will definitely be a vote in parliament at some stage. The laws can’t change unless there is. But remember all but one party, before the last election, campaigned on restricting cannabis to medicinal use only. I can tell you, almost to a vote, exactly how the situation will unfold. Including full opposition support. There’s a lot of political undercurrents at play here Sir. A calculator will give you the answer.
I think that the arbitrary dictatorial legal aspect of clamping down on broccoli has wider implications. It was a worthy rant.
I am pretty sure you can’t change a law until it’s been formulated, debated, voted and promulgated. I think they’re still at the ‘formulation’ stage and flying kites in the media to gauge response.
@@timnewtontoday Let's hope.
How can you build the land bridge in stages? Surely the whole point of it is its going from one port to another port... Seems to me like a binary project, in operational terms...it either works or it doesn't.
Old school letter lol, wicked
No one to blame for re-criminalizing marijuana, but all the idiots smoking in public and forcing 2nd hand weed onto everyone else…annoying everyone who does not smoke.
It's annoying - but i find 2nd hand cigarette smoke to be far far worse. Sticks to my girls hair and weed smoke doesn't
There should be a significant logical gap between "that annoys me" and "that should be illegal."
The blame is with the government who decriminalized it and then provided no guidance on how it would be regulated. It was out of hand within the first few months.

Questioning the mental health/stability of a Thai based TH-camr you "sort of rate" just because they are passionate about a certain topic? Sure!
Perhaps I should opine “disproportionately passionate”.
I know I've been guilty of it, I have PTSD and was triggered once and went in a full bender of a rant in the comment section, but Tim was cool about it, and I learned it's a severe trigger for me, and now I respond more appropriately, but had I not been given the opportunity to realize this trigger, it would still be an unrecognized land mine and I could've been misunderstood by someone less understanding than he was. Oh well going to have to see if my old connections to the Lao ganja is still available. It was real cheap and good buzz.
The use of working children in general is common many parts of Thailand. Many times in bars and restaurants, you'll get a procession of young children with bags or trays of packaged foods, trying to sell these items. They'll then go to the next one and the next one etc.
Often non Thai children.

Pattaya's reputation? lol Like, it has a reputation other than a tourist trap full of things that are often not regarded as family friendly.
Unless you are the Dad…
Theres well know other reasons for Pattayas reputation that no one is going to interfere with.
All good things must come to an end…for some reason..
Tim, not only the news media becoming AI generated but also the auto-tuned pop songs are the norm in music industry nowadays. AI is more productive & cost saving. The quality concern is probably not the priority.
What happened ? I thought I once heard something about Thailand leading the world in broccoli innovation - before the last election tho.... maybe I misheard
Certainly everything changed at the 2023 ballot box.

I enjoy his coverage of the broccoli to know what's going on, I comment towards the subject and not at Tim as I know he's just a TH-camr. I enjoy the opportunity to leave my digital vote /comment on the matter of cannabis , as a medicinal user I would hate to feel driven to the lurky dangers of the underworld just to seek the medicine I'm prescribed for relief of my symptoms. There really isn’t much real journalism on social media these days… AI generated garbage is more efficient .. and gets more clicks..
Does it get more clicks? I could give you three local examples where the AI ‘experiment’ has resulted in fewer clicks.
As soon as I see an AI generated article I skip it. It’s usually full of errors and misinformation.
The government can either get a law passed to re-list, or it can’t. Stop the threats and the Thai media posturing that action of SOME kind is imminent, the government should put up or shut up.
Good lord man. You’ve made this point already many times a day. Repeating it and reposting it HERE is going to do NOTHING to change things. That I am reading almost daily updates is an example of the officials talking it out before it all gets voted on. The reports are mostly saying ‘by the end of the year’. Who says it’s ’imminent’? What’s your paranoid beef with the media?
@@timnewtontoday
They need to let the vote go one way or another…soon. If they are going to deal a death blow to the thousands of shops, they should give them the decency to give them and the commercial property owners notice, instead of ongoing threats. These people have invested their time and money into this because of government policy, if they are going to reverse that policy after two years, they owe them a PUBLIC VOTE soon.
@@danporath536 Need I remind you, Dan, that Thailand is not your country? It will be done in Thailand’s time, not yours. And justifying tying financial livelihood to cannabis shops is distasteful. Tens of thousands of Thais live off the proceeds of sex tourism. That doesn’t make sending their daughters and sisters to “entertainment zones” the right thing to do.
@@thesteveman Human decency is still a standard to uphold. If the government told you you they were going to take 5-6 months to decide whether you could continue to legally operate your business, how would that affect you?
The little people that own these shops, and have invested their sweat equity into them based on government policy are metaphorically standing on chairs with nooses around their necks waiting for those, that claim a broad mandate to act, are deciding when and how to kick out the chair.
@@danporath536 You speak of these “businesses” as if they are legitimate. “Invested their sweat?” You speak of these sellers as if they are moral and ethical pillars of the community. They sell pot, for God’s sake! What the government should be doing is implementing retraining programs so that these ‘moral and ethical pillars of the community’ can work in a sector that values their contribution and hard work. Then again, this is Thailand.

I have some hand written letters that I cherish. When I was in school we moved from Massachusetts to Texas and then to Florida for the third time. Even during a school year we moved to several different neighborhoods and cities. It was during one move that I noticed my new school was already doing cursive. I struggled with it. Once I joined the service you weren't allowed to write in cursive. You had to print. Awe. That was something I was good at. My penmanship was superb. So from 1975 onward, all of my written correspondence was printed by hand. But, then the invention of computers. Still, I enjoyed writing a letter. Often I would compose it on the computer, print our a copy and rewrite it by hand. But, alas that would come to an end because nobody writes letters anymore. But, some of the ones I have, I cherish. The one's from my mom and deceased wife that I got in bootcamp. The one's I got from my son when he was in bootcamp, and Iraq, and Afghanistan. There is nothing more precious than holding a letter that you know was in your son's hands and he is in combat. Or re-reading a letter from you mom written in the most beautiful cursive that I have ever seen. Always positive, always supportive, always loving. Now I am forced to use a computer. My printing is almost unrecognizable. I find myself having to use spellcheck on the simplest of words. And my signature is a joke.
