It was really funny to see Steve’s demeanor change from Grumpy to Happy during the show !
I can't believe Steve could run "out of things to say".
Good
Thumbs up 👍 Tim Newton
Understood but still a bummer Postcards from TB is going off the air, or whatever you call it on-line. LOL. Always appreciated the uniqueness of the opening scene drone over morning surf, literally the start of a new day, and there's Steve having a cuppa. An updated version of the intro to Mr. Rogers' Neighborhood, with a snappier theme song, shorts, t-shirt and sandals instead of a Cardigan sweater. 😄
SGIW. I'm pretty sure you're situated above the equator 🤔
Steve a tip for going cold turkey. Keep the contents of an ashtray in a plastic bag, whenever you are really desperate for a cigarette, smell the contents of the bag. It sounds gross, but it actually works, it does.
We will miss the show. Enjoy your time with your Mom Steve.
Steve has a peculiar trash neurosis. It sounded very interesting for about 73 seconds. But, I really appreciate his unusual beach cleanup one man army. Great Job Steve!!! Keep up the great work! I somehow cannot believe that you will abandon your channel very long. It seems you enjoy having a public medium or self forum to share your thoughts and daily adventures....
49:42 Maybe one for the ‘Steve’s got it wrong’ segment. Last time I checked Thailand is still in the northern hemisphere so you’re above the equator. Perhaps not from an Australian’s point of view😉 The reason why the sun appears in the north part of the year is because you’re below the Tropic of Cancer
Tim as a sailor didn't correct him. 😂
@@kasiwawa that's why he sold his yacht, lol
Good luck Steve, 4 months!
Steve...remember the "treatment" scene in "Clockwork Orange".
Originally scripted as watching Eurovision but was deemed too extreme.😀
The reason for soft drinks in plastic bags was because all soft drinks 40 years ago came in glass bottles. So the vendor had to pay a deposit on the bottle. If the vendor gave you the glass bottle to take away they lost the deposit. As cans and plastic bottles came more common , drinks in plastic bags went by the way side.
Pulan restaurant in Phuket still sells soft drinks in plastic bags 😊
@@gunthervandenbergh8106 Sure some places still do but it's not very common. Where before it was a regular thing. Maybe they still get flats of coke in the bottle from the delivery truck. Now most restaurants or store just go to Big C and buy packs of plastic bottles or cans.
Still see pretty regularly.
@@Wilko11 I'm basing my " regular " on about 45 years ago. I first came to Thailand Jan/1980, your view maybe different.
@@glenloader639 Yes I've been going there since the 80s as well. Although it's less common you still see it in less touristy areas.
Steve, I used snus to break the habit of smoking, after a year I switched to the nicotine patch and was finally free from tobacco. That was 18 years ago
35:11 - that look on Tim's face when Steve describes the worst time of his life is classic. Words would have been redundant.
Today's video was great. I found it extremely scary how much I align with Steve in how he explained his personal life and how he chooses to live. I guess I am not the only one hahaa.
Steve, well done on recognising the need to stop. Many lesser men have failed to do that. Thanks for sharing your insights these couple of years, and all the best to you.
Several years ago while my mother was still alive, I scheduled a trip back to the US. I decided that I would make my mother proud of me by quitting smoking. I quit a month or so before the trip. I didn't have a cigarette for three long months. When I got back home to Thailand, I was sitting in a bar having a beer with a friend. He lit up and offered me a cigarette. I couldn't resist. Good luck giving them up for good.
Tim & Steve, both of you make my Sunday's just that little bit better, especially as I work from home on weekends. I'll have you going in the background, listening to you, podcast style, and its just great to have. Thank you for everything that you do and I hope the Grumpy Old Men vacation doesn't go for too long!
This broadcast made me very sad. I had understood from Steve's channel, PFTB, that Steve was going to take a 2 month hiatus from broadcasting because of his mother's visit.
But here in this Grumpy Old Men broadcast it was said that the PFTB broadcasts will be terminated.
That is way different than a hiatus.
I am happily addicted to Steve's PFTB shows, lectures, storytelling, updates, turtle building, anecdotes, and laughs.
Steve has taught us to find our own "Turtle Beach" and part of me watching these weekly shows is my "Turtle Beach".
Steve, as a loyal subscriber who adores you, can you please reconsider the cancellation of your PFTB broadcasts?
Steve - you expected to only live one more year of your life after you returned to Thailand. Now you have made it to 2 full satisfying and rewarding years.
You ALWAYS tell us in your PFTB broadcasts that this weekly TH-cam broadcast is "your MOST favorite part of your week".
So, please don't give up on PFTB while you are entering into your 3rd year of living in PFTB - I truly believe that by you producing these PFTB broadcasts it gives you something to look forward to every week which prolongs your wonderful life.
Steve, I implore you to please stay with us.
I agree, very sad… 😢
Great show today, guys. Thanks. Enjoy your evening.
Thanks again gentlemen, thanks for as always an entertaining Sunday sojourn into Turtle Beach.
thankyou guys enjoyed once again I will truly miss Steve with an e maybe could just do Sunday with Tim 🇦🇺💙
Steve, Thailand is 100% in the northern hemisphere.
always a great watch.appreciate your time, effort and humor.entertaining each other, and the viewer.Tims face at the pee in the pool remark,a new classic.have a great week you 2 champions.
Finally, at long last, just what I've been waiting for an "extra grump" version. I now feel right at home when watching you. 😂😂😂
we stiil have the plastic bag for coke in the Ladphrao area of Bangkok specialy in the mama and papa shops, because it stay's cold longer. so yes it is still used.
You busted your own myth Steve! Tim Tams in the refrigerator, cooled perfectly with a hot coffee is amazing.
That blue syrup that Steve was talking about is probably Smurf piss.
Guys!!!! How great would it be if Steve Rosse (with an E) goes "on location " and actually films the mushroom harvest....bonanza?
Oats: porridge. Cook with milk over the stove (speaking American). Sprinkle cinnamon and cut up a banana. Delicious.
Steve, I'm from Australia but bring a large packet of oats with me whenever we come back to our house in Isan. So every day, whether in Australia or Thailand I have oats, soaked overnight with low fat milk and water, with banana, prunes and blueberries (both available at Lotus). All natural sugars from the fruit. Highly recommend.
Can’t you buy rolled oats in Thailand?
Love watching you guys!
The Hales Red syrup is called 'Sala' flavoured. On the point about sugar in Thailand. The orginal recipes call for Coconut Sugar. With the growth of the middle class over the past 2 decades, people eat out in food courts run by the major retail groups like Lotus and Central. They replaced the recipes for white sugar to maximise profit. Most street vendors and market stalls did the same as coconut sugar, which is good for your body has been replaced by white sugar everywhere. Some Som Tam sellers have kept the coconut sugar which tastes better. 20 years ago Thailand had less than 10,000 diabetics with a population around 50 million. Today there is over 9 million diabetics.
Thanks for making my Sundays lads
As regard the plastic bag of soda, it’s still fairly common in Sari Sari stores in the Philippines. Those stores (mom and pop stores) are usually located in the province and conveniently located in various barangays (barrios) with smaller portions/packets easily acquired relatively cheaply.
Thank you gents for another great show. It’s funny you’re happy for the rain and In the UK just enjoying temperatures above 20c for the first time in over 6 months, read here the wettest 18 months in uk since 1800’s 😂
"Extra grump"...at no extra cost.
In these times of "In" and "Shrink" flation, it's refreshing to receive value for money.☺😀😂
Tim some of us viewers live on the other side of the world, I get you vids around 11pm since i'm single I let it play and I may drift off to sleep. Then the next day I play it again and get the full show, double the views.
Great show guys, people are talking about nicotine gum for Steve.lol 🙏🙏🙏🙏
Agree good to listen to go to sleep to
Very good show. Thanks to both.
My favorite Thai movie is "Beautiful Boxer."
The Ong-Bak and The Protector movies are great too (Tony Jaa).
Miss yesterday’s show as it was my birthday . I watched TNT SUNDAY EARLIER, Now will watch this 555
Tim! It was great seeing you last night live on your news channel. I do not know what it is for sure. You see, I have been listening to Steve Rosse, (Rossay), for many months now, and I found Steve through the youtube channel, "Thairish Times." I slowly began listening to Tim now because he runs in the same circle as Steve, now. It took me a while to warm up to Tim, buy I am there. He is a marvelous, and wonderful human being that I listen to now as well. So, to have my two favorite people in Thailand with Thai-woman etched into their lecherous heart, then let us begin!!
Excellenté!!! Thanks guys.
You're right about the timing of the plastic bag for sodas - I just came across a picture of myself holding one on my first trip to Thailand - December 2009. Still quite ubiquitous then.
My favourite composer is Jan Sibelius. He died at the age of 92. All his life he suffered from demons and chain smoked cigars and drank alcohol. All his life doctors advised him to refrain from smoking and drinking. One by one the doctors died. He outlived the lot of them. And wrote the most wonderful music.
A large shipment of pure white powder from South America went missing and ended up washing ashore on beaches in New South Wales, Australia. This unexpected event caused a surge in beachcombers flocking to the local shores, reaching numbers unprecedented in the area's history.
Double shirt delight today, so 20/10. Great videocast 👍
Very entertaining 1 hour and 10 mins .Thanks
Smoked for 20 years 50 a day smoker stopped cold Turkey never ever had a urge to smoke again one of the lucky ones I suppose
Tim was that Steve yesterday during your video, scratching and barking outside your door. Send Steve to the vet to get him de-barked.
Good stuff as per usual buds👏
Suggest honey, maple syrup and 9oz's of Broccoli for Steve.
Worked for me😄😘
Great as always guys 👍🏻
You have some really good advice here. Thank you ❤
I love this show! 😆They said The Sound Of Music and The Terminator and make it a musical!
Hi Steve , just throw some ice in your outdoor shower, great in the afternoon heat!!! Only 10 bahts worth
re Australia/Austria - A group of Welsh rugby union fans wanted to see the Romania vs Wales match, unfortunately they ended up in Budapest instead of Bucharest! True story.
I’ve heard of people booking flights to Sydney Australia but ending up in Sydney Canada
Tim, Steve makes a great point. That during the first phase when one arrives in a new place to live, their is a period which illusion subsumes your reality, or distorts it. The textbooks call it a honeymoon phase. I second the fact that during this duration one must be extra careful not to do anything too brash, and keep calm during these highly emotional feelings. Then, when reality has set in, one can then make plans that are doable. That is very well said, Steven. I did not think about that before. Thank you for your wise input there.
What a shame. The team is breaking up ? Nothing lasts for ever? Good news about the new swimming pool. Will it be the same as your old house in Phuket? Great idea. Aussies love a pool BBQ to lounge around. Great spot to video from ? Good luck Tim
Good idea Steve everyone needs a break at some stage no matter what it is 👍
Hale's green is Cream Soda flavor. My coffee lady showed me the varieties just yesterday.
I cleaned out the last of the TimTams at Tops! 555
You need to train Daisy to find bespoke bottle caps...
Hi! Tim n Steve..GM...😊😊😊😊
You can do it Steve🎉🎉🎉
Steve, bloody difficult to give up buddy! I tried a few times and failed. Then decided to stop in year 2000. Obviously craved for ages but I had a little 2 inch long ivory cigarette holder that I carried with me all the time and stuck this in my mouth and chewed on it whenever I felt the need! This was of course fairly constant, it worked! Also gives you something to fiddle with and save on chewed up pens! Just a thought!m
The empty bottles had to be returned to suppliers so in order to takeaway shop owners used plastic bags straw and elastic band. Another advantage was drinks didn’t have to be kept cold. Just add ice to plastic bag. Easy ? .
I’m with Steve, condensed milk in coffee and brown sugar on my rolled oats 👍
Come on Steve! You’re breaking our hearts, we need you and so does Tim! ☹️💔
Can we have a Tim got it wrong section, a unique sunset every night ! 😂
Steve, here’s a correction for you. Today’s brown sugar is simply refined sugar with added molasses. In the old days, brown sugar was partially refined with some molasses left in. Nowadays most sugar is manufactured with the same process (I.e refined).
Palm sugar is another option in SEA countries. I’m not sure how it’s made. It tastes pretty nice.
The blue colored Hale's Blue Boy is called Blue Hawaii.
There are two green colored flavors: cream soda and cantaloupe. The other flavors are: grape, jasmine, pineapple, rose, sala, root beer, and strawberry.
We should precise that all these flavours are totally artificial !
Exemple : the "cream soda" syrup (green color) that Steve dislikes is made of: Sugar 63%, Water 36.44%, Cream Soda Flavour 0.5%, (Sodium Benzoate (E211), Tartrazine (E102), Brilliant Blue FCF (E133) and Citric Acid (E330)) 0.06%...
@@davidb2206 Yet, Steve says he is drinking 6 glasses of Hale's Blue Boy every day !
@@davidb2206 Yes, the factory is in the Bangchan Industrial Estate on Seri Thai Road, about 500 meters from Wat Bam Phen Neua.
@@MyGbel So, are you saying Hale's is not considered a health food? 🤣
When I saw "Brilliant Blue FCF", I thought you might be looking at the ingredients for Blue Hawaii, but then found tartrazine is a yellow colored dye, and the two are often combined to produce green.
More worrisome is to see both sodium benzonate and citric acid on the same ingredient list. When combined they turn into benzene. Steve's consuming so much he could distill his own urine, and sell it for motorcycle fuel!
Oh, I'm so glad I stick to cappu yen! Thank you for the deep dive. My coffee lady showed me the flavors just yesterday.
About quitting smoking: 1. Do you want to quit or have you decided to quit? 2. Does your brain think you're a smoker or a non smoker? It's a question about identity. Try to persuade your brain that you're a non smoker so why would you light up? I quit after a pack a day for 35 years and this worked for me.
Very wise words about living in Thailand. I tried to warn a work colleague who had rosy eyes about living with his partner in a quiet area of Isaan, he lasted about 18 months before returning to Australia.
Yup, the good old Honeymoon Phase. I went from 100mph working to ZERO in a ruralish area upcountry. It was wonderful. So quiet, my ears hurt. The shine wears off after a while. Eventually moved closer to urban/city area, near diversions and distractions.
Great show Tim and Steve ,Good luck with the smoking
Spot on Steve; Pepsi beats Coke in the soda test because it has more sugar…
No hesitation. My favourite curry: Gaeng Hanglay
Good shout!
Stick in there Steve
Excellent show gentlemen. My favorite Khao gaeng is gaeng massaman, my wife's is gaeng tai pla. Here's a fun fact. I learned how to grow " broccoli " successfully in my back yard by watching videos on TH-cam.
In most of Southeast Asia, you used to see the old flavoured drink man and his cart outside the schools in the afternoon, there were also bees buzzing around the cart attracted by the sugar, it didn't seem to bother the kids or the old man.
I love Pear Cider, but it's difficult to find in Bangkok. I was out last night and bought a bottle of Aspinall Cider (from Suffolk, UK) which was 330 Baht in a bar. They make a great cider in Thailand called "Moose". (2 flavours) At Max Valu Supermarket these small bottles are priced at 59 Baht.
My local Mom and Pop shop here in Don Mueang still do the ice and pop in the plastic bag.
I have been trying to work my self out on what to do. My 4th trip to Thailand in 2 years currently in Hua Hin and still cant decide. At least here there are a couple bars where a single man can go with out being harrased and intimmidated by bar girls, bar boys and lady boys. Phuket and Chiang Mai I basically did not go out after dark simply as it was not pleasent being grabbed by massages and bar staff. I was getting angry. I am like Steve a loner and not good at interaction, Just want to sit have a beer and watch the world go by and that cant be apart from Hua Hin. I have looked at buying a business and property but really not worth it, the chance of going wrong far outways the positive. I go back to KL on Friday and have to make a decision. Greta info again thank you.
don't touch the f-ing table
In regards to Steve canceling Netflix, are streaming services Tubi, Freevee or PlutoTV available in Thailand? Do you need a VPN to get them?
Tim I think you’re describing a Beach Break when speaking about waves outside your house _ A beach break is a surf-able wave that is breaking onto a beach. The wave is created by the shallow sandy bottom, or sometimes a jetty. A beach break can either be caused by a sand bar out a little ways, or by the wave forming against the shoreline.
Well, it’s a very sudden drop from the shoreline and there’s no ‘surf able’ waves here in TM. Just dumps straight onto the beach
No surf in Thailand
@@G-rig6969 Kalim Beach is certainly one of the best surfing spots in Phuket, but is also not for beginners. Located just north of Patong Beach, the central part of the beach is where to head to with a properly waxed surfboard. Here, surfers can ride the swell on a 100-metre-long spot, with waves reaching up to 3 metres.
It’s best to go at mid to high tides and cautious landing is advised as the shore is pretty rocky and hides a shallow coral reef. Kalim Beach hosts yearly surfing contests including a few events sponsored by the Quiksilver Thailand Surf Competition.
@@G-rig6969 Longboarding in Phuket
Beaches like Kamala beach at the northern end has slower waves and is ideal for longboarding. In saying that though, a lot of people are riding shortboards to get across the fast beach breaks. Longboards have much more of a place on Phuket's beaches. Longboards are ideal in Phuket at the end of the surf season when the waves are nice shape and smooth, but too small for shortboards. Longboard surfing in Phuket seems to be more popular than shortboards and some days there are more longboards in the water than shortboards
The average craving last 8 minutes. Chew some ice or pop a garlic clove and wait it out.
Steve I will miss will your show on Friday will just have read one off your books not sure which one.?
I once had the pleasure to visit the rocket festival. My former girlfriend lived in Phnom Phrai and that was the biggest festival of the year. Yasothon claims to have first created the festival. That is hotly disputed by Phnom Phrai and there are still fist fights between drunks from both sides. That said, I had a great time and really enjoyed it. Some of those rockets were so large that they were brought in on semi trucks. I'm sure they were louder taking off than a 747. There is a LOT of gambling. The rockets are judged by how straight they fly as well and how high. Many go out of sight and are timed on the way back down after they go out of sight.. The year before one man was killed while lighting the fuse of his rocket. A very few blow up. The black powder has to be the exact right wetness. This was the first year they were required to use electric igniters. Anyways it is a huge popular festival with beauty contests, dancing and parades.
Hello from a ferry boat ohPhang Nga Bay!
Last time I went to chatuchak market, maybe 10 years ago, I got a Coke in a bag with ice.
I’m hoping that’s Coke a cola and the ice was in fact frozen water.
Wierd image distortion....are you using some sort of wide angle camera?
Tim as pretty close with his guess. The soda in a bag finished about 8-10yrs ago. I have not seen it for a long time. My wife sells Thai tea, coffee and sodas and its the plastic cups now. She also sells Hales syrup, Thais still love it, usually with ice and soda these days.
Great show as usual guys. Tim, think the grape growing regions in the North probably do get cool enough weather in the cool season to suit the grape varieties being grown there. After all there is sometimes even frost on the hill tops! 🥶. Steve, have you thought of getting a punch ball (or is it a punch bag?) and giving that a whack every time you walk past to get rid of any frustrations? 🤔
Tim, its called shore dumpers
Beach break
Steve, don't forget Popcorn. Can any corn become popcorn? Not all corn pops! Popcorn is a special type of corn. Some other grains, such as quinoa and sorghum, can pop too; but popcorn is the biggest and best popper!
I’m saving my plastic inhalers I have left over, for you Steve. (For breathing purposes as you know). Hopefully I can travel down there from Issan.
Thanks, but the brief of the project is "trash Steve picks up off the beach." Maybe you can recycle those inhalers?
Any windsurfing or kite surfing in turtle beach?
None that I have seen
Hua Hin is the beach you seek. ✌️
Hey Steve , do you remember, speaking of Jonesing, the Cheech & Chong classic Basketball Jones? Do you think it would be banned on racial grounds these days days?
I remember it, and I don't think anybody would take offense. But I don't remember all the lyrics, just the chorus. So maybe.
They still sell iced coffee and various other homemade beverages in plastic bags.
From inside to out is:
Pint of ice and beverage
Plastic bag
Rubber band to seal the bag
Paper bag
Second plastic bag
And a straw to poke a hole in the first bag.
Once the liquid is gone, 90% of the ice is still there.
I wanna see Steve's Mom correcting him on video...take her out places and get her take on it, hell let HER run the channel for a week hahaha
This is one of the first times I have seen both of you wearing a nice shirt on the same day. So is Steve going to give his mother a tour of Thailand?
