nice fair point-I was referring specifically to the monitor setup...I pull my desk monitor over to the rig and have to move the PC. If I have to add a track mid play or something I have to kneel on the floor beside the rig to use the keyboard and mouse lol But yeah I bought the gear used and got a good deal, I’m really enjoying it😅
The Sim Channel oh, awesome, thank you!🙌🏻 I haven’t explored the menus in much detail yet, but I’m stoked that there’s a community to help me get set up! The normal cockpit view is nicer with that little bit of side window to look out of...I can’t wait for VR or extra monitors!😅
The Sim Channel interesting, I guess there’s a FOV setting to see most of what you need with just the one ultra-wide screen? Does it cover as much area as a triple?
The Sim Channel coming in clutch with the knowledge, thank you! I always enjoyed the IRL drift community and I’m glad to say I’m seeing the same things in the sim drift community so far🙏
and then you can use Real Head Motion, I use that so I can see where I'm going since I too have a single monitor setup since a dual monitor setup doesn't really work with racing
zafosinferno888 😅😅😅 I guess it’s all relative but even I have plenty of room to improve! I’m actually going to do a series of tutorial videos this year to help beginners and intermediate drivers improve, so stay tuned!👋🏻
Mate you should get a VR headset you won't regret it. Doesn't give you gforce effects obviously but makes it feel like your sitting in the car. Great vid
Ozi Rodrigues thank you! I tried it once and the immersion was really impressive, but I could only do a lap or two before I started feeling ill...but I plan to try going VR in the future!🙌🏻
@@KameTrick that is an issue with vr. I think the new htc vive pro with eye tracking would help alot with motion sickness. I did get a little ill when first starting VR but within a week or so it went away can play for hours now..also is any1 in America doing aussie barra 4.0L turbo swaps for drifting. Great motor
I went the other way, about a year with Assetto, G25, going from single monitor all the way to a Rift DK2. Went to a drift event a friend was running, asked if he'd let me do one session having never even actually driven a RWD car, just to see. After the only run I did he was convinced I had some experience from somewhere else. Didn't believe I'd gathered all that in a sim. Well, it's kinda what it's for. Hardware and setup is very important.
K3NnY_G yeah, I think it’s easier to move from sim to irl but either way one skill informs the other for sure. That’s rad that you were so well adjusted right out of the gate👌🏻
i raced in ac with fwd cars for a few months, this winter i caught ice in a bend, i don't know how i did it but i saved the car and kept a drift like a pro. i think if i would not have plaied sim games i would have crashed 100%
@@dumyjobby same here. I have slipped on dust withy my car a few years ago. The the car started to turn out of the road (right side). And suddenly i pulled the E-break with counter turned wheels, when i starded to turn back, then i foored the pedal (fwd). So I've fixed my fault in seconds without any thinking. Maybe this wasn't the proper way to get back in control, but saved my car, because i had no more chances there. This is what sims give us. We don't need to experiment so much with our cars. And it is much cheaper in sims
This thread is rad👌🏻 Most of my good reflexes irl are actually from irl but it’s the same either way...reacting instantly to save an unexpected issue (hydroplane on water for example) is a w e s o m e 💯
I'm not even much of a drifting focused driver, but I will tell you that when I do it VR makes it amazing. The extra presence of the car moving around you in VR makes it a lot easier to tell what the car is doing. I also feel learning to drive without G-forces as well as irl helps cement the thinking side of things instead of just the muscle memory.
mungers I bet, I think most experienced drifters (who are good at articulating the driving experience) would say the same about their first time driving a sim, that’s one of the biggest differences for sure
I have been Sim drifting for a year in assetto now. No real drifting yet unfortunately but I'm glad a real drifter thinks this game feels "Decently realistic" as I hope to hit a real track one day. Awesomw video mate, really enjoyed it!
NITRO XR thanks for checking it out! And yeah AC can certainly give you a good foundation to build your basic skills, timing and coordination...you just have to adapt it all to the car when you go irl👍🏻
NITRO XR FWIW I talk a little more about the challenges with higher competition-spec cars in my latest AC vid. I’m trying to do one a week unless I do an irl drift video that week😁 th-cam.com/video/SVyu1vLlGO8/w-d-xo.html
@@KameTrick I appreciate the reply 👍 Recommended you to a mate as well. I'll definitely be keeping up with your content! Love hearing you describe how the cars feel and what you are doing to keep them under control. Great stuff! 😎
@@KameTrick can you try project cars 2? i am curious about your opinion. I've never drifted in real life, i can drift in project cars 2 but 80% of players say that the game is not really realistic when it comes to drifting, and they can't do it even tho they drift in real life. The few who can, say that compared to AC, they are pulling the wheel more inwards in a corner and it feels realistic to them.
The shader patch adds an option thats way better called neck give it a try it looks at apexs, direction of the car and wheel angle its night and day difference at least to me.
Scott van Breda awesome, thanks for the feedback! I want to do more interesting commentary on sim drifting, LMK if there’s anything you want to hear about or see, be it IRL or sim stuff 🙌🏻
I don’t think this was meant to be a tutorial in any way but I had problems counter steering but watching you drift and you explaining exactly what you doing actually helped a lot I don’t spin out as often now lol.
Milo Navarro haha awesome, I’m glad it helped! I’ve been asked to make a legit tutorial but yeah this was more me talking through figuring out how to sim drift...but if you were struggling with the same issues I was then it might have helped👌🏻
It's interesting to hear the opposite perspective of mine. I learned to drift in sims, and then took my experience from sims into the real world. For me, it was nearly a seamless transition. I found that all of the techniques I'd taught myself in sims could be applied in the real world to achieve the same result. The only problem I had in real cars was that I was a little bit too twitchy when approaching full lock. This "technique" actually did help me keep the car unsettled and sideways for longer, but it is also a great way to make your passenger feel nauseous lol. I think my twitchiness came from the fact that it doesn't matter how good your sim racing setup is, there's going to be a little less granularity in your inputs versus real life, simply because they're digital devices which must return specific values. Whereas a cars steering wheel is entirely analog, there's no latency or granularity to worry about in your inputs, and of course you get the feedback from g-forces. IMO I think moving from sims to the real world is probably an easier transition than moving from the real world to sims.
K31TH3R cool to hear about your perspective, that’s about how I imagined it would be👍🏻 I agree completely, moving from having that analog input and gforces and REAL head motion 😂 to going in sim is unnatural and takes a while to acclimate to😅
I think Assetto Corsa does work as a Drifting Simulator. I started doing it with the same Fanatec wheel, hand brake and shifter as you. I own a 350z with LSD and straight pipes, manual gear. I am not a pro as you are, not even close but, I sure can drift thanks to this simulator. The first time I tried in my real car I could feel the wheel pulling exactly as I was feeling while playing in my pc. The weight shifting and the force feedback that comes from the game were very similar to real life drifting.
junior ramos yeah it’s definitely good enough to justify the cost for the seat time IMHO, especially for those of us who can’t afford to go drifting irl every weekend
Big Smoke I appreciate it! This vid is over a year old now (I actually want to do a “one year later” remake with my updated opinions) but I always make sure to show my appreciation for the viewers who spend the time to drop a comment. Maybe one day the channel will get so big I can’t...but until then it’s 100% completion rate haha 🤘🏻
@@KameTrick You are really a nice person. It's sad you are not famous yet. People nowadays don't appreciate small and nice youtubers, and it's very disturbing. Stay safe:))
I know direct drive wheel should be the definitive sim racing experience, but I would say thrustmaster/Logitech wheel give decent experience, it's a gateway for sim racing
corniel I personally would advise someone to save up for a belt drive wheel, even the cheapest will do but as long as it’s a belt system it will feel close (which is what I’m using) Direct drive sounds amazing but I wonder if the experience justifies the cost...hopefully I’ll get to try someone’s DD wheel at some point 🤔
@@KameTrick In case you didnt know, the tando buddies cars use stolen and unrealistic physics. The COM is literally below the ground ffs. Tando buddies is the shittiest drift mod, but everyone uses it because its super easy
Clockwork621 I didn’t know over a year ago when I made this vid, it I’ve realized that the unrealistic slow transition speed suit the unrealistic slow wheel self steer of everyone using Logitech it TMX wheels pretty well...so it’s “wrong” but most people’s hardware is too 🤷🏻♂️ I was slow even on a Fanatec setup because I was brand new to sim drifting and my IRL experience had me waiting for weight shift that would never come to do any of my inputs. I’m still making sim drift videos but over been using WDTS almost exclusively for close to a year now. They feel the most like my IRL car, especially now that I have my visual references figured out so my timing is right. Here’s the current setup FWIW: th-cam.com/video/r5p-BSyVRNk/w-d-xo.html
@@KameTrick They are not too expensive around $100 depending on the models, I cant say how well it works to simulate some g's but you can also build a diy buttkickcker have a look on youtube :)
Not sure if it's been said or not, but fun fact is the drift track you first drove on is a real drift track in Japan called Motorland SP (SP=South Point). I used to drive this track when I was there, and it's such a great addition to Corsa with all the different lines you could take. Spent hours both in-game and IRL. Can't wait to upgrade to a fanatec setup like yours! Awesome video ^_^
MehsterChief oh snap I didn’t know that! I looked up the track and recognized it instantly👌🏻 I used to live in Yamanashi and have been as far north as Fukushima (Ebisu) and as far West as Hiroshima...haven’t made it up to Aomori yet though. Thanks for watching and for the insight, I always enjoy learning new things about drifting and Japan🤙🏻
hey dude try out street heros, akuma, remix , dcgp , rus 180 and some barret cars theres a ton more O&S motor sports also has a few stockish cars that feel pretty good as well !
MIDAS thanks for the comment, I’ll give them a shot! Now my rig is ready sim drifting will be a regular part of my content in addition to real drifting :)
real Virtuality thank you! I definitely do need VR. I’m borrowing a rift right now to try, but I get gnarly motion sickness within 2-3 laps so it’s a struggle to work through 🤢
As many others have said: Real Head Motion while you wait for the VR/triple setup, I'm going to take the time and try to do a data dump of the settings I got from someone that have been working great for me (single screen 24" setup), at least it'll give you something to work from; PF: 0/35% RF: 0/80% SLA LR 0/0.5/30 SLA R 0/0.5/10 SS 97.4% AVL 0/50/0 SAL LR 0/45/0 VS 0% AGR 0 GAS 0% For the look options: LLRA: 10 LSA: 90 LUDA: 5 PO: 0 I've also binded LookLeft and LookRight on my G29, smoothing 70~80% Hope it helps!
mickwald dude, thank you so much for taking the time to type all that out. I screenshotted it and will try it out next time I drive. I tried the content mgr shaders pack “neck” tool but with stock settings-at least on the Mega Tamada mod track-it didn’t seem right to me...that video will be done and publish early next week...hoping I just messed up a setting somehow lol
RedEagle thanks dude! I’ve made a bunch more vids since this one and do more every week! Come hang during the 9pmCT live-streams on Friday’s if you’re free✌🏻
I think the biggest mistake a lot of people make in sims (in drifting or racing) is they use way more throttle than they would IRL. They use a very on/off approach in sim and then don't understand why they lose control. Gotta drive it like a real car.
TheGreatC81 great observation, I agree 100%. It’s hard to bring that respect for the car (or fear of consequences for the car and possibly driver) into sim.
Wish I would have known you prior! I was at No Coast (2018) @72 The white RB25 240sx in in the background. I've been debating a drift sim for probably 5-6 years now, after watching your video I think I might finally do it. I've found my cost for events has gone up a lot over the recent years, my last event I went through 12 new tires. I would like to get the most out of my days by staying sharp between events, it sounds like it might not be the exact, but can give me what I'm looking for! Thanks again for taking the time to post the in depth video, greatly appreciated!
Thanks, yeah it would have been cool to connect more at NCDP2018, I have a drift vlog from that event 😆 This video is old and I have some updated opinions (I need to make a new video on this) but sim is definite a way to stay sharp between events. I was already a great solo driver and able to do semi-acceptable “party event tandem” (not super close but you also rarely crash type stuff) and sim has helped me become even more skilled and confident, so it’s not just for beginners IMO
Astral Apophis I know the Lone Star guys, I’m one state away and party with them irl a couple times each year🤘🏻 I haven’t seen the smoke mod specifically but I’ll look for it on their site.
On Lonestar there is only the 3.7 version of TKs Smoke Mod. Here on RDP is the actual one: www.racedepartment.com/downloads/tks-smoke-mod.11187/ This page also is the most popular mod page for Assetto :)
In case you wanna drift Los Angeles canyon roads which btw is one of the biggest maps ever made for AC. It's also made with real data from Google Earth. This, the SOL weather mod and VR is just dope!! www.racedepartment.com/downloads/la-canyons.15067/ For a nice overview (in case) watch the video by Chris Haye th-cam.com/video/BXVIs79Vg4U/w-d-xo.html
Have u tried Gran Turismo drifting?? I found it alot harder to learn drifting on GT Sport than assetto. You should do a video on that! Although drifting with the stick manual Trans is just about impossible. You basically can't switch gears or clutch kick in the middle of a drift or it completely kills the drift which sucks. So you would prolly have to run a sequential.
Treeezplz hey thanks for checking out the vid! I haven’t played a GT title since around 4 or 5. Those ones weren’t particularly realistic though it’s fun to slide in any game. I do want to try more titles especially as my sim rig get better✌🏻
@@mara3640 Eeh, not really. DW just need some setting up. Changing the rear psi to 24 or 25 and keeping the front 28 to 30 does wonders. That and around 80% turbo. It changes the cars drastically, not to mention you can use semi slicks which fixes all the complaints he had. Then again, he said that he used default set ups for all mods and cars so you can't blame him for not liking them, I wouldn't either. Hopefully he remakes the vid sometime with some changes to the setups ^^
Get Content Manager, install the shader patch and Sol(shader patch has neck option that makes single monitor pretty sweet) then do yourself a favor and download the VDC cars.
I can't thank you enought! I allways wondered if there were any chance to make a proper drift gaming. But the problem was that neither my friends or I were drifter, so we never would were going to know if the game was realistic or not, and suddenly from God's know where I find your video where you explain that Assetto Corsa is close enought to the real behaviour of a drift car. So, thanks one more time.
mariano ramirez I’m glad I could help! There are a ton of videos on the channel about sim and irl drifting in AC with more every week, check out some of my latest stuff😁
Before i sold all of my equipment ( i had a brand new 30nm Direct Drive Wheel) i thought "hey, you have 1 week left with this wheel before i will sell it, so lets so something what i never did before - drifting". I drifted sometimes but my main focus was racing .. But then when trying it out with the DD Wheel, i fell in love with it. Especially with the "Drift M3", it was awesome. There was a double apex fast right hander, drive in, give it a bit of steer input Or change the balance of the car with throttle/brake and there you go. The feel in the wheel was ridiculous, especially when slowing down a bit for the 2nd apex, you could literally feel how the weight shifts, how light the wheel gets etc... Its of course not like real, and it will never be, but that 1 week drifting with my DD was really nice (maybe its as nice with other wheels swell, aim definitely not making ads for DD wheels, in fact, in my opinion they are not worth it, you will be as fast and have as much fun with "normal" wheels aswell..)
ICEMANZIDANE decelerating in drift and decreasing radius corners are super fun to slide through and catch the perfect line IMHO, I’d like to try a DD wheel at some point...but I agree they probably aren’t worth the extra cost for drifting at least, because a lot of the time you aren’t even holding the wheel in drift 😅
il be honest, at first when i found your video i was expecting that i would end up having something negative to say but by the end its the opposite. Nice drifts and really informative hints given. Another subscriber from the sim racing world for you :)
Dj bishmyster I’m trying to do a fair job with them, thanks for watching and taking the time to say so! I’m learning a lot from the sim drift community and their comments as well since I’m fairly new to that world✌🏻 I have 4 or 5 other sim drift videos out at this point driving other cars and tracks, hope you’ll check them out!
Renegade thank you, I appreciate that🙌🏻 I want to get more into sim driving so I’m counting on the community to help guide me as I try out new mods also :)
I drifted a weekend in april this year. boy these gforces are huge. Had no idea the snap backs throw you out of the seat that much. hit my helmet on the driver window quite often until I knew my car better. (minor modded ca18det s13 with welded diff). was loads of fun, and you can get alot of tirelife with "cooldown" laps or just sitting around one minute in the puddle.
DESCENT yeah dude, having a bucket seat and good harness system to hold you in place makes a huge difference in terms of car control...that’s why it’s so hard to adjust to sim for me, where I don’t have all that extra info telling me about what the cars is doing. Glad you got some seat time in!🙌🏻
@@KameTrick yup! but going onto the nürburgring was a nice experience, too! I can not say which was more awesome. drifting was fun but the ring... its a whole different thing! the feehling when you hit the corners at 200km/h while going over a crest, making your car skip half a meter out of track... damn! but I already have 3 sets of drift wheels and 34 tires ready to shred this october 😂
DESCENT wow, Nurburgring! 😮 that would be an awesome experience, but it seems like one mistake and you could end up on a wild ride haha. I haven’t played the ring enough in sim to have it memorized yet😅
@@KameTrick well, me niether. I made some laps in Forza and Assetto Corsa. but thats realy it. I went a little wide in one corner, since it was tighting up. I clinched my buttcheeks with all manpower united. 😂 but it went all well, I didn't give it full beans. and I only made one full lap. Oil was hitting 125°C, no Cooler was fitted and the front lower wishbone got a little lose. you can sneak a peak at this pic I bought. 1drv.ms/u/s!Ag6UjeDy1T7PozJBe77p0eLRlWNP (link to my onedrive) damn, just look at the camber! all in all. it was w hectic weekend and I'm visiting again. sorry for bad english, regards from south germany!
Great video! I got myself a sim before I went to try it in real life, well I sort of tried it before but I was super shitty as any beginner. I have to say that trying to learn as much as you can on the sim before going out on the streets is the way to go. The small things in drifting, like when to steer and where to steer, you can learn them while crashing a hundred times in sim so that you don't have to crahs in real life. Please don't get me wrong I am by no means a drifter, far from it. But I drive an SLK 320 (the old one) and I can get a little sideways if the corner is right, without dying or breaking my car. Going from sim to real life made things so much easier, cause I actually had a feeling for the accelerations and also I just used my ordinary office chair, which constantly rolled away on me.
Peter Griffin for sure dude! I totally agree, if you could choose between investing $2000 in a beat up drift missile or a super nice sim rig, you’ll always be better off getting the sim until you’re super good. And you won’t spend all your time breaking and fixing the car which can be a constant struggle even without crashing haha Thanks for watching!🙌🏻
The white beast thanks for checking out my channel! There’s plenty more vids from irl drifting to sim where I talk about how to drift different tracks or demonstrate techniques (raw footage too!)✌🏻
Badtaste21 hahaha dude TBH that’s pretty accurate for an old S-chassis these days 😂My speedo, gas gauge and temp gauges no longer work (the gas gauge made it the longest and died about 2 years ago...I don’t think you can buy OEM replacements anymore) I use external gauges for temp and oil pressure, guess on fuel and since my tach works I use a lot of experience with it + my current gear to know about how fast I’m going lol
I find that when you can adjust the ingame camera to move according to G-forces (some games are better with this than others, I can't actually remember how it is in AC) it makes things a lot easier. Even though you can't feel the G-forces, you can more instinctively pick up the weight transfers from seeing the slight camera movement and the vehicle tilting on screen.
Audiojack I would agree with that in general, so view shift in heavy braking, axel and cornering. Now that I have more experience with it, I’m pretty sure AC can do that in the first person view👍🏻
Nice drifting. I'd like to see you try it in VR and hear how you feel about that in another comparison video. edit: For sim racing I think the HP Reverb is the best choice as it has inside-out tracking that don't require separate base stations/sensors.
@@KameTrick It is so much better than old flat screen mode. Really makes you feel like you're inside the car.. Though, the illusion is so convincing, it can flip your senses out at first (VR sickness).
@@KameTrick IME the VR really helps with judging speed and distance. I am very happy with my Oculus Rift, that requires a single sensor camera in front of you (2 if you use the vr hand controllers)
I use the samsung odyssey plus. Very affordable these days compared to other headsets and yet had some of the highest resolution available and the perceived resolution is even higher. Really helps minimize the distraction of the screen door effects that led me to sell my vive after only 1 month. Have the same exact club sport v2.5 setup as use and paired with a VR HMD, bliss. Let me just tell you the first time you are in game and blasting through a corner and turn your head to look out your window and see another car right there and use that feeling of depth to know exactly how close you can get, not to mention just in general turning your head to look in the direction you actually want to go, complete game changer to any monitor based setup. The feeling of depth and speed is much improved without have to spend thousands on a motion rig quite yet.
Yes, Samsung Odyssey, Odyssey+ or Oculus Rift S are solid budget alternatives. And if someone wants to play other VR games than simulators I'd definitely go for the Rift S since it has the best inside-out tracking and the biggest library of games with the Oculus store and SteamVR combined.
I learned to drift in assetto corsa and other racing games. When I first started drifting in real life, it was a pretty easy transition considering I knew what to do and knew the feeling of the wheel
@@KameTrick Awesome! There's a mod that helps you from getting motion sick. "VR lock to horizon". I've been drifting IRL, in Assetto Corsa it's almost so you can feel the g-forces (in your head) when you use VR, you just know when you're at max angle and when you need to counter steer.
I wish a had a Fanatec wheel. I have a G27 and its way too weak to be able to countersteer by itself so a lot of the time when swinging the car around or transitioning you literally have to either throw the wheel or just rotate by hand instead of letting the car do its thing.
Costi yeah, I’ve driven some cars that were like that and it’s not fun, just a ton of work...but like with anything I guess we all make do with what we’ve got while working towards our next level...I’m doing that with monitors right now!😅
Could you please check out LFS? Its definitely the best feeling drifing simulator for me. You shouldn't play it for the graphics tho, since it hasnt had an update for that in years. You'll someone to introduce you to the game though since the like 3 drift cars that the game has, dont drift on the default setup. + the standard tracks are pretty boring and you should probably stick to custom layouts. Btw, the most used car for drifting has like 250hp which cant be changed on most servers, this makes for some good tandeming once you find some good people. Sorry for my bad English btw, its not my first language.
Nigel Muilekom I always think it’s rad when someone has learned a second language, your English is great! I speak decent Japanese haha✌🏻 I actually first got into sim grip racing through LFS, but at the time I had a gear driven wheel that was awful for drifting...I haven’t tried it much with the new rig... 🤔
@@KameTrick I still have a gear-driven G27. In my opinion, it's not as much the wheel's as it is LFS' fault. Drifting in rFactor 2 and BeamNG feels more natural. In fact, I stopped using anything but BeamNG.drive for drifting. Oh, and I think that AC is even worse for drifting than LFS (which is moderately decent).
Get Sideways maybe I’ll make a comparison video at some point...I think AC probably has an equal or larger audience/player base than LFS these days, no idea how big Beamng is (or how new/old) 🤔
@@KameTrick Well, the AC's audience is simply huge, far outnumbering pretty much anything else, and if you are going for the numbers, sure that's the way to go. The problem with BeamNG's audience is not even the numbers, but the percentage of those who use it as a "crash simulator" and expect to see crashes instead of proper driving or drifting. You could, however, make AC videos for the crowd while enjoying BeamNG time for yourself (if you'd make a video, that would be great though). One thing I've noticed about this sim is that it pretty much requires framerates in excess of 80 or even 90 fps for the steering to be immediate enough. Even at the "standard" 60 fps drifting gets more difficult than it needs to be thanks to the steering wheel reacting quarter to third of a second behind your actual input. Here is a test video I recorded after bringing the graphics down significantly for the run: th-cam.com/video/V7Jah3Ae9Bs/w-d-xo.html I felt much more in control at higher fps there (the video is at much lower fps, because I switched to the highest graphics prior to recording the video off the replay). The devs did post, however, that it's best to switch the Windows' Game Mode off for it to function properly. I'll try that later. Will also try other tweaks too. While I also hide the car's steering wheel from my view when I drive, switching it on for a bit can be useful to determine your input lag in a particular sim: just start turning the steering wheel left and right quickly and take note of how far behind the virtual wheel gets. You can even record both the controller wheel and the virtual wheel with a camera while doing that and calculate the actual input lag between you turning your wheel in the opposite direction and the virtual wheel changing it's direction also. Like, if your camera recorded everything at 60 fps, every frame lasts around 0.0167 seconds. If it takes eight frames for the virtual wheel to start turning in the same direction as the controller wheel, your input lag is 0.0167 times 8, equals around 133 milliseconds (0.133 s).
about the gforce thing, when i drive in ac i use a mod called real head motion in tandem with the neck mod that comes with custom shaders patch to give me gforce info, i can tell approximately what the gforces are doing based on the camera rotation and roll, i find it helps me greatly when drifting or trying to catch oversteers when racing
antsolja yeah I’ve tried RHM a little bit. It seems people either use RHM like you or use the background moving against the a-pillar and dash (static camera) to figure out the car’s angle gain 👍🏻
Real Head Motion is very helpful when on a single monitor, as I am also. I had to focus on steering with the foot a lot, throttle control was a big one when I started. It certainly seems easier transitioning from sim drifting to IRL, then IRL to sim. They are a great practicing tool!
JmanBZ Thanks for the tip! I completely agree about the transition. Going from sim to real, you do have to account for the gforces and get used to them, but ultimately you are adding additional information and feedback to the driver, whereas going from real to sim you take it away. Less info is always harder...trying sim or IRL with ear plugs or heavy winter gloves makes it more difficult as you get less feedback than you’re used to.
I just searched youtube for 'how to install real head motion assetto corsa'. Then just watched through the steps. It did take me a couple tries, it can be a bit finniky to get it going. Cheers
there is a mod that lets you help with the head motion. there is the shader mods in CM (Content manager) an there is RHM (Real head motion) both used to simulate the head motion
Would drifting in a sim translate to real life? Seriously though, good drifts! I spent about 2 hours on that track with the BMW E30 drift when I got my wheel. Still trying to get the hang of it, but I've gotten better. I wish I had a handbrake though. I've just been flooring it into turns to get the car sliding.
Stripes it’s totally possible to do a vast amount of learning and muscle-memory building with sim drifting before going to real life drifting. There will still be some big adjustments to make but I’m confident you can learn and improve faster with sim driving and event than you would with only IRL drifts👌🏻
i sim drift a shit ton and do plenty of sim comps for fun. havent had much irl drift experience but i have done a drifting couse in a mx5 on a wet skid pad and whilst most students there took 15 laps and still couldnt initiate or stop spinning out, i was completing the course ok in 3 laps and by the end of the day was doing pretty well for a bigginer. personally i think from that experience the sim helped me a lot with knowing what they car was going to do generally at first. also i found the feeling of the real car very similar to that for dw cars, the standard e30 has weird ffb
JuanZeTacoMan nice! I really think sim drifting can help speed the learning curve IRL a lot. I let a subscriber do donuts and figure 8s in my car and it was a very quick transition for him👌🏻
@@KameTrick for sure, I mean it was only a short session but it was very similar. Only noticeable differences was the feeling difference of clutch kicking, a front end you can feel much more accurately in terms of grip and the g force aspect. Really cool though want to do more haha
JuanZeTacoMan exactly! IRL is easier once you adapt to gforces, because then you have even more info to tell you what’s happening with the car than in sim👍🏻
TNF1 NoName thank you, that means a lot coming from an experienced sim drifter. Which platforms are your favorites? I’ve done AC and LFS so far. I’m looking forward to getting more into sim driving since it’s easy to do more frequently and affordably than IRL haha
TNF1 NoName right on! So far I like the driving feel of AC and LFS about the same but AC looks so much better to me and has real track and car mods so it’s my favorite👌🏻
You might want to look at simhub + rumble motors or bass shakers. They are supposed to be able to provide a simulation of wheel slip, wheel lock etc based on the in-game telemetry.
randomYT that sounds cool (and expensive) but I’ll keep it in mind as I grow the channel and get more into sim drifting. I want to try and get VR as a first step!
@@KameTrick not really, simhub is a free program (donation). The rumble motors can be obtained from Xbox/ps3 controllers (or a couple of bucks from eBay), an Arduino board and motor shield for a few dollars more. A power adapter, USB cable and soldering iron you are probably set to go. Check out amstudio's video on TH-cam.
randomYT oooh I was thinking of those buttkicker things and not a small spinner for the pedals. A project like that is a lot more my speed, I’ll hunt down the vid🙏
Sean O'Brien It pretty much is IMO. And the hardware will work with plenty of other PC Driving games so eventually when something better than AC comes around you can change titles easy enough 👍🏻
From what i've seen from my son playing the game.. The RHMAC (Real Head Motion Assetto Corsa) is freaking awesome... It lets you look into the corners as you drift them
LP Brothers I’m still getting used to that...it’s a wild idea to an irl guy but I’m working on it. As I get better I’ll slowly start turning up my FFB so I can get more info from the wheel base👍🏻
Ci Guy I’m in agreement! Live For Speed is good too, but I wish it supported modern drift gear better and had a nicer track building system...still a nice driving experience though 👍🏻
I don't drift on assetto corsa I usually drive formula, GT, endurance and hillclimb but this is interesting it's actually the external forces much like on a plane you don't feel the float as you flare the aircraft for landing.
Edge 12 I suppose you feel the acceleration and deceleration but not the steady speed, yeah. Sense of speed has a lot to do with what you can see too, and in commercial airliners there’s nothing much going on out the windows
VR helps big time for sensing angle and kickout. Your brain automatically cancles out small movements on a screen, but in VR you notoce the slightest little twitch because it's all you see. FYI, not all too hard to link the whole loop
@@KameTrick Also, look into Buttkickers. With software like Simvibe, you can program them to simulate things like engine revs, suspension movement, and rear traction loss. Pretty much as good as it gets without a full blown motion rig with a proper kickout module.
@@KameTrick Worth every penny, a couple hundred here and there in sim racing translates to thousands of hours of track time in whatever conditions and cars you would like. Pretty much pays for itself with your first set of spent slicks.
Oleg one thousand percent yes, a cheap drift weekend irl is $300 bucks for me...it pays for itself in no time. But I will say there’s something pretty magical about tandem trains and shredding with your best buds irl
i drift on assetto since 2016 and i recomend the public releases from street heroes mods for assetto corsa, the dmax rps13 feels really good @streetheroesmod
I’ve personally only ever drifted in a hand full of games but doing some research I’ve come to the conclusion that drifting on a sim translates quite well to real life bc of the fact on a sim all u have is the feeling in the wheel and visual and real life yes different but you have other senses almost like how blind ppl become accustomed to only using there ears hope that makes sense either way great vid dude keep the good works :)
I knew that Assetto Corsa will be realistic for you when I notice how you can drift as a professional drifter (what you are in real life). Obviously if you crashed or failed a lot, the game is not realistic hahahaha. PS: the only one dislike is from Ken Block, he can't drift/tandem, only powerslide with a AWD/4WD car :D
foxman27bfe thanks for the kind words, I’m not a pro but I have a good amount of experience and dedication to the motorsport. Glad you enjoyed it, hope you keep up with future vids too! :)
Fantastic video! Just what I've been looking for to learn about the abilities of Assetto Corsa. A bonus was that I learned something about drifting as well :)
The Drifting Dad I haven’t played Forza on a sim rig but I’ve watched video of good irl drifters playing it and they always make way too many steering corrections mid-drift when the car should be balanced and stable...I totally agree and don’t think those “sawing in the wheel” type inputs would be necessary IRL 🤔
Javier Javier I was all about Gran Turismo from GT2 through GT5...I haven’t played the later ones...but from what I have played, I thought GT2 and 3 were alright (although I could barely drift back when those were out haha) Personally I didn’t think 5 was all that realistic, but I didn’t have a sim rig at that time so my controller inputs also weren’t realistic (poor throttle and brake modulation, jerky steering inputs compared to IRL)
@@KameTrick this brings back memories of me trying to drift in gt3, building s13s and s15s with -5 deg camber in the rear and ripping the e brake, I had no idea what I was doing lol
I think what’s interesting about sim racing vs drifting in real life is that I’ve only really done heavy sim drifting. It actually translates really well in real life but I feel like I have no understanding of how much throttle to apply in real life. I’m almost always underpowered in big slides. It’s interesting that you use more feeling from g-force than steering wheel where I do exactly the opposite from doing more sim drifting. Thanks for the video.
Christian Gotsch awesome comment, it’s been cool talking with heavy simmers about what’s challenging for them when adapting to IRL. I do pay attention to the wheel too, but IRL it’s maybe 1/3 of where I get key info from, tops. There’s also feeling rear tire traction through the vibrations coming up into the seat, and the whole attitude of the car as it gains angle which you can feel in a whole-body sense (weight shift)
I loved the concept of the video. and as other people in the comments have mentioned, there are alot of extra tools like RealHeadMotion etc. to give that extra bit of immersion. Something i however didnt see posted yet is that you can manually adjust the forcefeedback settings of your wheel within Assetto Corsa, this is also known as a "Lut". When i first started to learn drifting on assetto, the wheel settings felt fine for me. but as i started to get more experience under my belt, i felt the wheel was restricting me to learn more. i changed my Lut from a guide on Racedepartment, and this completely made me rediscover the abilities of my wheel, please consider making this adjustment for a more realistic feel and for an even more comprehensive review. Thanks! (Guide to LUT: www.racedepartment.com/downloads/rasmusps-lut-guide-for-g27-29-and-dfgt.16799/ Make sure to use the 50% Gain Lut.)
Tobias van T. Hey, sorry for the slow reply, we had an IRL drift event Saturday and I’m usually not very active on social the day after one (tired and unpacking the car, etc)😅 That’s an awesome tip, I had no idea about those setting options! I’ll probably split the difference and focus on getting a little bit more experience driving while adjusting FFB settings in the wheel itself, and then once I feel like I have a solid baseline I’ll start experimenting with the LUT settings. I appreciate it!🙌🏻
Tobias van T. BTW I’m glad you liked the video concept! I thought it would be pretty interesting to sim and IRL drifters alike. If there’s anything you’d like to see or hear my thoughts on LMK!
@@KameTrick no worries! I hope it went well. I think videos like these; comparing real life experience vs. Sim is a great concept. Id love to see this video redone but then with the adjusted lut and RHM etc. Ill be watching your channel! :)
I’m just now working on building a budget sim setup. Wheel only turns 180° which might cause some issues going forward, but I’m in love with Assetto and must make do with what I’ve got. Thanks for your videos! 👊
Modded Assetto is awesome, and definitely worth getting into. There will be room to grow when you can upgrade your hardware. Another option worth considering is steering with a mouse, though I’d probably try to stick with the wheel also 👍🏻
@@KameTrick Hell yeah man! I’m going to invest in a Logitech setup in the future when I have some expendable funding. Been watching through a lot of your stuff lately, trying to get the hang of it. Thanks for the quick reply! :)
Many SY ありがとうございます!✌🏻 I started studying Japanese at university, took classes for 2 years and then went on a study abroad attending Yamanashi Daigaku for another year. A few years after I came back and finished university I got a bilingual job with a Denso group company so I got a lot of practice every day there. The accent is from early learning though, just focusing on the right way to pronounce all the vowels, learning when letters are silent, and practicing the difficult combinations like the しつ in 失礼します😁
You would half expect some things to be similar, given people who have had all their experience in sims tend to be better than expected on the real deal, but if it was as close as you described for something that is commercially available, it's incredible!
Zanzaroni GR of course there will be some differences, but overall it’s well worth it IMHO. I really think I could train someone on sim for several months and they could come out and SHRED at their first irl event👌🏻
@@KameTrick Yeah! And it's not something that a company holds to themselves, it really shows how incredible this technology is. The company that makes it is a small studio and they're not the only ones with this level of realism. I remember the story of a teenager who was an ace at Nascar at iRacing and when he first got behind the wheel (he had never driven before irl) of a nascar training car he impressed everyone around him!
There is an option for "simulation value" in AC, by default it is on zero :) Try to make it 100% (using content manager), car feels more like real life - more weight and grip
@@KameTrick Lol he is just pulling your chain. There's actually value like that in the settings, but it does nothing. It was an inside joke by the developers, after someone said their simulation "doesn't have simulation value". But it does absolutely nothing steamcommunity.com/app/244210/discussions/0/364042063116998483/ I still come across AC players who don't know that, thinking it does something. Yeah Tando Buddies is one of the more questionable ones. They're kind of like starter cars, then you move up to DCGP which has great handling. After than VDC because they're well over a thousand horsepower
Robbie good points, I’m working my way up! I’ll give my two cents on those 1000hp cars when I get to them, but since I haven’t had the chance to drive one of those setups I can’t offer as much commentary even though I have a pretty good grasp on the gist of how they drive 😬
Cantslide thanks for checking out! I have a pretty rowdy new setup, you might check out this how to drift video I made: th-cam.com/video/r5p-BSyVRNk/w-d-xo.html
I've spent so many hours in that asetto oval and doing online racing. I will say I'm very comfortable driving around in my car after. I've had to pull a few inches away from cars that merge into my lane without looking on the freeway and it never made me freak out like it used to. I might have crashed before sim racing.
Xnetteom yeah a lot of precision driving experience, whether IRL or from sims can definitely influence your reaction when somebody cuts you off or drives sketchy. I’m a lot more comfortable driving close behind someone if I need to on the street, cause it’s not as hard as proximity drifting, haha
Nicolas Cook Nicolas Cook here’s one to watch for a bit of JP speaking: th-cam.com/video/9PVnHTiKmJY/w-d-xo.html I don’t speak it on the channel too often since I think many of my subscribers don’t understand it, but if I’m doing a live on any of my channels and a Japanese user hops on I’ll chat with them using the 日本語😁✌🏻
Even if it’s not perfect I think it’s fricking crazy that the skills you’ve learned actually drifting even translates at all to a video game. The thought that physics engines have gotten that good just boggles my mind.
Yeah it’s pretty solid. If I was training a new drifter I would 100% out then in the sim and have them linking tracks before I’d bother spending the time and money to get them behind a real car. Sim is just so affordable by comparison 👌🏻

I wish I found this video before I spent a whole year going through trial and error, studying on my own time on how to drift and getting used to the wheel. I can drift now, but it would have been so much easier if I found this before.
In my army past I made the madboy with a lot of cars including a lot of mountain pass drifting on asphalt and tarmac gravel... and I think that Assetto Corsa is very configurable game and if you make well work creating the car physics and steering wheel config you can make more and more near to reality experience.
"with my ghetto setup" and im just sitting here with my xbox controller
nice fair point-I was referring specifically to the monitor setup...I pull my desk monitor over to the rig and have to move the PC. If I have to add a track mid play or something I have to kneel on the floor beside the rig to use the keyboard and mouse lol

After the only run I did he was convinced I had some experience from somewhere else. Didn't believe I'd gathered all that in a sim.
Well, it's kinda what it's for.

K31TH3R cool to hear about your perspective, that’s about how I imagined it would be👍🏻
I agree completely, moving from having that analog input and gforces and REAL head motion 😂 to going in sim is unnatural and takes a while to acclimate to😅

The weight shifting and the force feedback that comes from the game were very similar to real life drifting.

real Virtuality thank you! I definitely do need VR. I’m borrowing a rift right now to try, but I get gnarly motion sickness within 2-3 laps so it’s a struggle to work through 🤢
@@KameTrick You could also try the Real Head Motion mod. Easy to setup and really amazing to use.
As many others have said: Real Head Motion while you wait for the VR/triple setup, I'm going to take the time and try to do a data dump of the settings I got from someone that have been working great for me (single screen 24" setup), at least it'll give you something to work from;

mickwald dude, thank you so much for taking the time to type all that out. I screenshotted it and will try it out next time I drive. I tried the content mgr shaders pack “neck” tool but with stock settings-at least on the Mega Tamada mod track-it didn’t seem right to me...that video will be done and publish early next week...hoping I just messed up a setting somehow lol
because you have a single monitor get RHM mod. looks where you are drifting.
Ashhh K5 will do! And then VR or triples eventually🤙🏻
Or use the shader patch neck thing.
AuroraSpace I have full CM so I’ll try that first
"This is really hard because I can't see where the doughnut is..." DOES IT FLAWLESSLY!
SOLVEDdude it took a little practice, I’m still bad at sim doughnuts compared to irl haha 🤷🏻♂️ 😅
Thats actually so sick man, start the video putting on a real racing real on a force feed back system. Literally a dream of mine
I definitely recommend picking up a VR headset. Super immersive and can give you a lot more info
Owen Vlahos I want to...just need to see if I can get used to the weird feeling of seeing motion without sensing it 😬
@@KameTrick if you enjoy it vr takes it to another level of fun. Better than me for sure haha
@@KameTrick motion sickness? It will completely fade off after 2 weeks
Pow3rus I’m counting on that lol 😬
Wish I would have known you prior! I was at No Coast (2018) @72 The white RB25 240sx in in the background. I've been debating a drift sim for probably 5-6 years now, after watching your video I think I might finally do it. I've found my cost for events has gone up a lot over the recent years, my last event I went through 12 new tires. I would like to get the most out of my days by staying sharp between events, it sounds like it might not be the exact, but can give me what I'm looking for! Thanks again for taking the time to post the in depth video, greatly appreciated!
Thanks, yeah it would have been cool to connect more at NCDP2018, I have a drift vlog from that event 😆
This video is old and I have some updated opinions (I need to make a new video on this) but sim is definite a way to stay sharp between events. I was already a great solo driver and able to do semi-acceptable “party event tandem” (not super close but you also rarely crash type stuff) and sim has helped me become even more skilled and confident, so it’s not just for beginners IMO
Hopefully you get the smoke mod from lone star drifts website and VR. INSANE combo!
I second this. I built a sim chassis with all the accessories a couple weeks ago, and with VR and it's insane.
Astral Apophis I know the Lone Star guys, I’m one state away and party with them irl a couple times each year🤘🏻
I haven’t seen the smoke mod specifically but I’ll look for it on their site.
On Lonestar there is only the 3.7 version of TKs Smoke Mod. Here on RDP is the actual one: www.racedepartment.com/downloads/tks-smoke-mod.11187/
This page also is the most popular mod page for Assetto :)
In case you wanna drift Los Angeles canyon roads which btw is one of the biggest maps ever made for AC. It's also made with real data from Google Earth. This, the SOL weather mod and VR is just dope!! www.racedepartment.com/downloads/la-canyons.15067/
For a nice overview (in case) watch the video by Chris Haye th-cam.com/video/BXVIs79Vg4U/w-d-xo.html
Tando Buddies is probably the worst car pack you can use, switch to DW new WDT or use Teeky/Trawa S14. Stay away from DTP too.
Hunters thanks for the input! I’m trying different cars and tracks in each video.
+1 on teekhy s14. That thing is so nice to drive.
Dimitar Dulgerov it’s on my list!🙌🏻
DW is actually the worst of those 3 you can see that on his another video.
Get Content Manager, install the shader patch and Sol(shader patch has neck option that makes single monitor pretty sweet) then do yourself a favor and download the VDC cars.
o0squid0o will do!🙌🏻
vdc fuck that shit, downsynde garage and dw
I can't thank you enought!
I allways wondered if there were any chance to make a proper drift gaming.
But the problem was that neither my friends or I were drifter, so we never would were going to know if the game was realistic or not, and suddenly from God's know where I find your video where you explain that Assetto Corsa is close enought to the real behaviour of a drift car.
So, thanks one more time.
mariano ramirez I’m glad I could help! There are a ton of videos on the channel about sim and irl drifting in AC with more every week, check out some of my latest stuff😁
Thank you, nice work with all the thecnical explanation comparing real vs sim, keep going with nice videos, and keep burning tyres.
HardNeca thanks for watching! I’m doing more sim driftcar reviews along with my irl drift event footage and vlogs✌🏻
Cool video! Always fun to hear what real drivers think of sims.
Renegade thank you, I appreciate that🙌🏻
I want to get more into sim driving so I’m counting on the community to help guide me as I try out new mods also :)

And you won’t spend all your time breaking and fixing the car which can be a constant struggle even without crashing haha
Thanks for watching!🙌🏻
This is a very interesting video , because he is not only saying if it feels real he is explaining almost how to drift with it and thats nice
The white beast thanks for checking out my channel! There’s plenty more vids from irl drifting to sim where I talk about how to drift different tracks or demonstrate techniques (raw footage too!)✌🏻

It says no temperature (well, cold) and no gas. Great car, it runs on love! :D
Has no RPM either.
Badtaste21 hahaha dude TBH that’s pretty accurate for an old S-chassis these days 😂My speedo, gas gauge and temp gauges no longer work (the gas gauge made it the longest and died about 2 years ago...I don’t think you can buy OEM replacements anymore)
I use external gauges for temp and oil pressure, guess on fuel and since my tach works I use a lot of experience with it + my current gear to know about how fast I’m going lol
Haha, i saw this and thought on my s14, thats pretty realistic.
going narrisch haha exactly! Ppl who don’t own a 25+ year old car laugh but broken stuff is super realistic 🤣
Staffan Andersson thank you for the comment and input! At least trying out VR is definitely in the future for me :)
Adrenaline 4 Life I agree, I think it’s very doable. The stakes change a lot when it’s irl, but what you do isn’t so different 👍🏻
You should try drifting in AC with VR, it's totally different.. Feels so much more realistic
MeSs2007 I’ll see about borrowing a headset and if I don’t get motion sick I’ll probably pick one up👍🏻
@@KameTrick Awesome! There's a mod that helps you from getting motion sick. "VR lock to horizon". I've been drifting IRL, in Assetto Corsa it's almost so you can feel the g-forces (in your head) when you use VR, you just know when you're at max angle and when you need to counter steer.
@@MeSs2007 what is g forces?
@@triixzz2747 g force is a gravity force which is like strong wind. It pushes you back when racing
@@kkyoto_prod thanks man
I wish a had a Fanatec wheel.
Wanna play together XD
Nigel Muilekom I always think it’s rad when someone has learned a second language, your English is great! I speak decent Japanese haha✌🏻
I actually first got into sim grip racing through LFS, but at the time I had a gear driven wheel that was awful for drifting...I haven’t tried it much with the new rig...
Going2kilzu awesome, I’ll check it out, thanks!
Wow that intro gave me ALL THE FEELS

thanks for your perspective! great video!
Vida Simples - Junior Kuyava hey, thanks for watching! I hope you’ll check out some of my IRL drift videos too 🙌🏻
Would drifting in a sim translate to real life?
This channel is the most underrated channel on youtube
MGZ aw, thanks dude! I’ve been at it for around 3 years so hopefully within another 3 it takes off even more ;)
Keep it up bro dont give up, my cousin started his youtube channel and after 4 years he had 100 subs, one week he just blew up now at 300k
MGZ wow that’s cool! What kind of content does he do?
He plays and streams Rust, i think its because the game blew out at that time and before almost no one knew about it
MGZ right on! I played Rust in the early days back when they had zombies...I was awful at it but it was strangely fun...that’s cool!👍🏻
Super cool video dude, I spend a lot of time drifting on multiple sims like AC, automobilista, PC2 and more, my favorite car is the Volvo 240 (:
TNF1 NoName thank you, that means a lot coming from an experienced sim drifter. Which platforms are your favorites? I’ve done AC and LFS so far. I’m looking forward to getting more into sim driving since it’s easy to do more frequently and affordably than IRL haha
@@KameTrick assetto corsa for me is the easiest one for drifting, so that's the game I play most when I wanna drift
I could never get into real car racing or drifting, waaaaay to expensive so I guess this is the next best thing

I'm a complete noob at drifting but I will learn some basics... Soon 😅
Nice video, subscribed 👍
Jairon_2 welcome to the channel! Thanks for checking it out :)
Would love to buy one of those fanatec wheels 😂 Still rocking Logitech DFGT.
SideWays I lucked out and got my gear gently used at a good price :)
Using a Steam controller here lol
The force feedback of the steering wheel is supposed to tell you the g-forces of the car. I use it a lot when sim drifting.
LP Brothers I’m still getting used to that...it’s a wild idea to an irl guy but I’m working on it. As I get better I’ll slowly start turning up my FFB so I can get more info from the wheel base👍🏻
I've tried many sims and I find AC to be the most realistic one
So the RPMs just stayed at 0 the whole time you were driving.
We are drifters we don't always have our cars running perfectly hahahaha
Gen 5 Zeus it’s a ~27 year old chassis, broken gauges are actually pretty realistic 😂
My speedo and gas gauge don’t work, tho my tach is still good
Kame Trick I figured, you know it’s a video game so like how do you know I thought it would at least show the RPMs lmao
This is a car mod made by an individual, not something that comes with Assetto Corsa.
Gen 5 Zeus haha it is backward IMO, the Speedo tends to die before the tach anyway...uh oh so unrealistic lol ;)
VR helps big time for sensing angle and kickout. Your brain automatically cancles out small movements on a screen, but in VR you notoce the slightest little twitch because it's all you see.
FYI, not all too hard to link the whole loop
Oleg that makes tons of sense, now I’m even more stoked to try VR! :)
@@KameTrick Also, look into Buttkickers. With software like Simvibe, you can program them to simulate things like engine revs, suspension movement, and rear traction loss. Pretty much as good as it gets without a full blown motion rig with a proper kickout module.
Oleg that sounds awesome...maybe this winter instead of building up my irl drift car like normal I’ll build up my sim rig instead haha👍🏻
But I will say there’s something pretty magical about tandem trains and shredding with your best buds irl
i drift on assetto since 2016 and i recomend the public releases from street heroes mods for assetto corsa, the dmax rps13 feels really good @streetheroesmod
maru awesome I’ll check those out, thank you!🙌🏻
I’ve personally only ever drifted in a hand full of games but doing some research I’ve come to the conclusion that drifting on a sim translates quite well to real life bc of the fact on a sim all u have is the feeling in the wheel and visual and real life yes different but you have other senses almost like how blind ppl become accustomed to only using there ears hope that makes sense either way great vid dude keep the good works :)
Yeah, it’s different but a lot of the skills will transfer over. Going IRL -> Sim is *way* harder than going Sim -> IRL. It’s not even close 👍🏻
Nimbus1951 awesome, thanks for taking a moment to say so!🙌🏻 if you’re interested in IRL drifting check out some of the other vids on my channel✌🏻
Wow! I definitely think AC is better than Forza, mid drift and transitions is weird in forza, never feels planted like in real life
The Drifting Dad I haven’t played Forza on a sim rig but I’ve watched video of good irl drifters playing it and they always make way too many steering corrections mid-drift when the car should be balanced and stable...I totally agree and don’t think those “sawing in the wheel” type inputs would be necessary IRL 🤔
@@KameTrick I totally agree!
@@KameTrick have you seen or tried Gran Turismo for drifting?
Javier Javier I was all about Gran Turismo from GT2 through GT5...I haven’t played the later ones...but from what I have played, I thought GT2 and 3 were alright (although I could barely drift back when those were out haha)
Personally I didn’t think 5 was all that realistic, but I didn’t have a sim rig at that time so my controller inputs also weren’t realistic (poor throttle and brake modulation, jerky steering inputs compared to IRL)
I love this game personally.
I would recommend the drift workshop cars and also the street heroes cars! Mainly the latest street heroes Dmax 180sx
reiko na6ase I do need to try the street heroes cars👍🏻
Here’s my take on the DW180SX:
th-cam.com/video/rrHjrqaLY2Q/w-d-xo.html
Hey, sorry for the slow reply, we had an IRL drift event Saturday and I’m usually not very active on social the day after one (tired and unpacking the car, etc)😅
That’s an awesome tip, I had no idea about those setting options!
Tobias van T. Cool, once I get more experience (it will be several videos down the road I’m sure) I’ll do that!👍🏻
@@KameTrick Looking forward to whitnessing the growth ;) if you'd like to tandem some time (GMT +1) send me a pb.
u speak good japanese actually ! nice accent
how did u learn speaking japanese
Many SY ありがとうございます!✌🏻
I started studying Japanese at university, took classes for 2 years and then went on a study abroad attending Yamanashi Daigaku for another year.
@@KameTrick I subbed
Many SY thank you!😁🙌🏻
You would half expect some things to be similar, given people who have had all their experience in sims tend to be better than expected on the real deal, but if it was as close as you described for something that is commercially available, it's incredible!
There is an option for "simulation value" in AC, by default it is on zero :) Try to make it 100% (using content manager), car feels more like real life - more weight and grip
mr_makko interesting! I definitely haven’t tried that yet, thanks for the tip!
@@KameTrick settings - assetto corsa - system
. First on the top
So dunno, maybe mr_makko was one of those, but anyway it's a joke
@Heiko Scheuermann SimRacing well, it works for me :) Keeping it at 100%
I'd like to see you trying drifting on Live For Speed which used to be the king on that segment and have your thoughts on how they compare.
Silvastone Sim Racing I haven’t tandemed enough in either but I did play LFS back in the day...I’ll put together a video, probably on drifting in LFS, and then maybe an LFS vs AC one
@@KameTrick yeah nice... I'll keep an eye on it, looking forward to hear your impressions :)
You'll definitely have a better experience with more fps tho...
Garnett Harris yeah...I accidentally exported my first several vids with my irl footage preset, so the fps got chopped when I made the video. I fixed that for this and future vids, LMK if it looks better🙏

To get a better view while drifting you can: get 2 more monitors, get vr, or get track ir (vr on a budget)
Angelo Basso thanks! I plan to do one of those eventually to get a better field of view, still working out which one will work better for me
You should have used official content for this as the mid you’re using might have questionable physics.
mostly some mods are far better in feeling than original ones, atleast for me thats the case
PIPPO-10 I’ll be sharing commentary on the driving feel (in drift) for more cars as I go and I’ve gotten several requests to do the official cars...I have the JP pack so I’ll do them and I’ll probably buy the pack with the BMW later to do it as well :)
Mate, this is an awesome video.
Thanks for posting this!
Cantslide thanks for checking out! I have a pretty rowdy new setup, you might check out this how to drift video I made: th-cam.com/video/r5p-BSyVRNk/w-d-xo.html

A for AWESOME 🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻
I've spent so many hours in that asetto oval and doing online racing. I will say I'm very comfortable driving around in my car after. I've had to pull a few inches away from cars that merge into my lane without looking on the freeway and it never made me freak out like it used to. I might have crashed before sim racing.
Xnetteom yeah a lot of precision driving experience, whether IRL or from sims can definitely influence your reaction when somebody cuts you off or drives sketchy. I’m a lot more comfortable driving close behind someone if I need to on the street, cause it’s not as hard as proximity drifting, haha
@@KameTrick my girlfriend always grips the oh shit handles of the car when someone cuts us off and im like "we were fine! We had 6 inches!"
Xnetteom haha yuuuup
New subscriber for the japanese :D
Nicolas Cook Nicolas Cook here’s one to watch for a bit of JP speaking:
th-cam.com/video/9PVnHTiKmJY/w-d-xo.html
I don’t speak it on the channel too often since I think many of my subscribers don’t understand it, but if I’m doing a live on any of my channels and a Japanese user hops on I’ll chat with them using the 日本語😁✌🏻
The reason u feel no g force is because u dont have it on
Yeah just go to the options > force feedback > scroll down and move the g forces slider but be careful when I maxed out the shit I flew out the window
😂 😂 😂
The fact you know about MCR and Maziora made me subscribe. I'm 39 seconds in. That's all it took. Time to watch the full video
Alex Hwang haha thank you and welcome to the channel! We have a pretty cool crew gathering round. I do a Friday night livestream for Assetto drifting and have some pretty neat stuff in my library as well. Here’s one to get you started!

Kame Trick sweet! Thanks. I'd have to do some binge watching when I can. I wish I found this video before I spent a whole year going through trial and error, studying on my own time on how to drift and getting used to the wheel. I can drift now, but it would have been so much easier if I found this before.
Google Translate
You can use a program called: Assetto Corsa Real Head Motion. To make the character's head point to the curve.
DIVULGA DIREITA #17 I’ll give it a try!🙌🏻
In my army past I made the madboy with a lot of cars including a lot of mountain pass drifting on asphalt and tarmac gravel... and I think that Assetto Corsa is very configurable game and if you make well work creating the car physics and steering wheel config you can make more and more near to reality experience.
Agree, it’s got a lot of potential and can translate to real life skills 👌🏻
