    For anyone completely new to drifting - what I found to be helping me the most was actually not using 900° wheel rotation. I tried drifting with a 900° rotation for like 10 hours and couldn't really keep the car in drifts for too long or even transition really and got kinda frustrated but then I read about turning it down as a beginner. When I switched to 540° wheel rotation I actually managed to do some good drifts and even chain corners. 4 hours after I can do a complete Lap in Drifters Paradise (the map Kame is using here). The tips from this video and the reduction of my wheel rotation worked out beautiful!

      Tey Tyes I agree 100%. Basically you have to build up experience over time, until you can predict what inputs will cause what changes to the car a second or two from now as you drive. Once you start to amass enough info to get more accurate predictions you’ll be over the hump and drifting gets a lot more fun and rewarding 😁

Been working on drifting with one for months now. Early on I thought I was just doing something wrong because the wheel wouldn't rotate fast enough/on its own. The CSL Elite wheelbase was pretty good from what I remember, though the pedal set that comes with it isn’t as good as the Clubsport v3 pedals. If you are strapped for cash it’s an adequate wheel for drift simulation 👍🏻 Though you might buy a DD later (due to the wheel breaking or you wanting more performance in the future) resulting in spending more money total, so it’s also good to take a long term look at buying a DD wheelbase which is a more robust long term solution

    I was struggling very hard, got LUTs, my friend's FFB settings and everything I could think of.
    Put around 5-10 hours into this, wondering why I keep messing it up.
    Low and behold. My Thrustmaster settings were set to 540 degrees instead of 1080.
    So once I hit the 540 degrees in a turn my brain didn't know that was the max degree and thought I was half way through.
    For anybody struggling, please check your settings OUTSIDE of AC.
    I truly feel like an idiot, but am at the same time happy that I can keep a drift for however long I want now, including transitions.

    As a logitech user, I have found that reducing the degrees of rotation from 900 degrees to around 720 degrees. I agree that the wheel is slow to respond and I find myself "chucking" the wheel. However, with the lesser rotation, the wheel car will react as fast as I need it, even though the wheel is slow. What is your opinion on this method?

    • @KameTrick
      @KameTrick  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Balisage that’s a good tip 👍🏻 Reducing degrees of rotation is a “sim specific” option that works fine, your reasoning is spot on.

    I've been rocking a G920 for around half a year and forcing the wheel came really natural to me. Youre definately right about the wheel being limiting but from what I can tell if you stick to the WDT cars you can become VERY consistent, especially if throwing the wheel is more your style.

    • @KameTrick
      @KameTrick  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You can definitely drive around it, it’s just not something that happens in real cars unless they have a big issue with caster and steering geometry settings. I'm doing my research in getting into this field and the direct drive wheels have become super affordable in comparison to the belt wheels now. A Moza wheel and pedal setup can now be bought for $400-$500 which is right around the price of a Thrustmaster T300. I have also noticed that many wheels have flat bottoms which seems to me to be not as good for drifting since you let the wheel slide through your hands so much and a round wheel is the way to go. It may be a while before I buy a rig but man, I can't wait! Great video BTW.

    • @KameTrick
      @KameTrick  ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree, if you can wait a couple more paychecks the DD option is a great move unless you’re ultra-budget or not sure you’ll want to stick with it. If you have a little bit more income to work with or the patience to save, jumping right into a Moza or Simagic is pretty solid. Personally, I run a VRS DirectForce Pro FWIW. 100# on the fully round wheel as well, it’s worth it to have one

  • @Nate101Dawg
    @Nate101Dawg 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Another tip that I think might help is, if you're at full lock it's usually a good sign you're gonna spin or you're pushing it. So, reduce throttle "NOT COMPLETELY" but to about 20% or so. Then as the steering angle reduces get back on the throttle. The reason for this is if you don't have room to counter-steer anymore you're likely to spin. If you have more room to counter-steer you can save yourself.

    • @Nate101Dawg
      @Nate101Dawg 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      And also the idea is to create smooth transitions from GRIP to SLIDE. So feathering the throttle can work for some on and off fast etc. Aggressive throttle work can make the car feel very unstable.

    Wow, I just went from g920 to thrustmaster TX leather edition and I must say... The difference is insane! I'm new AC drifting, been mainly doing donuts and figure 8's. I struggled with transitions on the g920 but right after switching to the TX, I have it almost on lock down right away! Now on the TX, it's mostly throttle control and wax on wax off with the wheel! Thanks!

      @@GamingWithLeo_YT you can try to enable post-processing set to gamma and then play around between 50% - 100% to make it lighter. I think having it too low causes the wheel to bounce around when going straight with hands off wheel

    I’ve been learning to drift with my wheel from trial and error slowly implementing tips I’ve seen on TH-cam and professional drifters. I can truly say the biggest cause is definitely the wheel motors. I’ve found myself drifting better when throwing around my Logitech G920 to help get the angle right. It took you explaining it for me to realize it kinda has to be done because it’s not powerful/quick enough to turn on its own. I believe I could become a lot better after watching this video now that I know what to practice and how I can focus on it.

    • @KameTrick
      @KameTrick  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I’m glad to hear that, in your case the wheel base requires some extra effort to make work…it’s actually harder that drifting a real car😅 But the muscle memory and stuff you learn from it can still help you if you transition to the real thing in the future, so don’t stress too much. That said, upgrading to a belt drive or DD wheel in the future would be the best move you could make 👌🏻

      @@KameTrick yea I’ve been hearing it’s a lot easier to drift in real life vs a sim. I don’t plan on doing real drifting anytime soon but it makes it exciting to know I might have a way better time when I do lol. I truly enjoyed the tips, I was able to apply them last night and was able to connect my turns without losing control. And it only took me one lap to make the little adjustments ☺️ can’t wait to check out more of your videos

    Finally I have answer to my issues. I've bought an unused g25 two days ago. (The guy kept it as a spare one.) and I couldn't figure out why does it feel like cars have basically no caster and have to help it countersteer every single time. Now I have my answer. Thank you.

    • @KameTrick
      @KameTrick  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeeep, sorry to be the bearer of bad news. Your best bet is to run lower degrees of rotation like 540 you the wheel doesn’t have as far to go and then install wheelcheck and a LUT

    • @menya_
      @menya_ ปีที่แล้ว

      @@KameTrick to be fair it's not that bad. I have a fake nardi on and playing on 900. It kinda feels like an inline6 bmw where you have to help just a little bit to countersteer. I think I've got used to it already doing transitions and such. Next step is the touge I guess✌🏻

    This helped me so much. Understanding how throttle affects the snapback on corner exit. Slowly getting out of the throttle as the car re-centers is the key. I also have found that a high FFB on assetto is needed for the wheel to self rotate. Then, adjusting FFB in the wheel driver for overall force. Also "slip effects" in AC settings seems to have an impact along with keeping FFB tweaks in CSP off. (I'm on a Thrustmaster TX)

    This was very well explained, now all I need is the same but for FWD.
    I am able to feel the throttle/steering wheel relationship IRL, but putting it in words and laying out the exact technique is proving to be difficult.
    It certainly doesn't help that all drifting content is either about RWD or handbrake sliding

    • @KameTrick
      @KameTrick  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Most people I know have FWD cars when they first start driving, even back in the day when affordable RWD was more common. I did my first Ebrake slides in a friends Honda Prelude and Acura Integra so I know the feeling😅
      In a nutshell, the entry phase of any technique that has to do with foot brake or hand brake works the exact same...but as soon as a step involves accelerating it’s no longer relevant to FWD cars. FF’s can only enter fast, go sideways, and gradually lose speed until they can’t stay sideways, where RWD can get sideways and stay that way indefinitely due to the drivetrain layout.
      I may make an “FWD sliding techniques” type video at some point in 2022, but until then, good luck with your driving!

    I have a G27, getting a LUT file and messing with other ffb settings got it pretty good in AC. As a learner it improved my ability to link "easier" tracks without many issues + some others after more practice. And if I manage the pedals just a little bit it self steers pretty strong and good. I have discovered that tapping of the brakes technique while experimenting by myself, it gave the wheel some extra time to rotate, I was pretty much letting go of it everywhere. But I have found that part of it depended on the car pack/car used, although it might just be me still learning and I know nothing about suspension tuning etc..

    I just got a g29 yesterday and started learning how to drift in assetto. My biggest problem is the end of my drifts tend to twist when I try straightening it at the end of the corner. Thank god I have this video to learn and understand more about drifting.

    • @KameTrick
      @KameTrick  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ah yeah, that’s an often overlooked element (in my vid too a bit 🤦🏻‍♂️) but basically you’re balancing the spinning tires with countersteer, and as you let off throttle you reduce countersteer. If throttle comes off too fast, the car will grip up and sort of shoot in the direction of your steering. If steering comes off too fast, the car may pick up angle and “park” sideways or spin.
