Okay, I got a bit of a late start this time round - and I feel like pretty much each of these records (particularly Chameleons - which I feel is on the cusp of clicking with me) is a grower record - just my luck! Right now, I'm feeling: Lambchop - Nixon ("Up with People") Vampire Weekend - Only God Was Above Us ("Connect") The Chameleons - Script of the Bridge Circa Waves - Young Chasers I'm sticking with Primitive Radio Gods' White Hot Peach for "next" time! (I'll revisit this list more fully soon - hopefully!)
Sadly, (not for me) I was on holiday this week, so all albums got just two listens and a quick third as a breaker… I was not familiar with any of them... I probably have heard bits from the Chameleons before but I don’t remember anything… Vampire Weekend was the only band that I have any familiarity with… So ideally they all need more listens… 01… Vampire Weekend - Only God Was Above Us (2024)… Seems like a very good new release but I need more time with it… Looks like it could make my ten for 2024 (at the moment)… 4.5*… 02… Lambchop - Nixon (2000)… This album is incredibly high quality music, sadly for this exercise liking and play-ability come into play… I would be more than happy to listen should somebody else be spinning it… This could have taken first if not for three tracks that for me are unlistenable: ‘You Masculine You’, ‘What Else Could It Be’ & The Distance from Her to There’, vocally they are a complete no go to my ears… I am not surprised that it is one of the albums to listen to before you croak… I guess that I have done that now, in a short while I will have forgotten it and moved on, it’s not a life changer for myself… 4*… 03… Circa Waves - Young Chasers (2015)… I have done a little reassessment with ‘Young Chasers’… Do I think that this is a fantastic album! No… I think that it is light weight and poppy though easily accessible… It is inoffensive and easy on the ears… I personally wouldn’t buy it but it’s a fun listen… 3.5*… 04… The Chameleons - Script of the Bridge (1983)… 3.75*… I think that I need more time with this… It sounds like the kind of thing that I would have appreciated more in ‘83… 3.5*…
@@tokyochuchu Just Skegness for four days, Sunday to Wednesday, the rest of the week we just took it easy, managed to get decent weather for a few of them... Four days is about the limit for Skeggy, it's not Florida... 🙂
@@ste.6026 Beautiful country out in Lincolnshire. Skegness sounds like a lovely holiday! Save for the name Skegness. Which sounds a bit like some kind of lethal virus that involves lots of pustules. 🤢
@@tokyochuchu I know what you mean but it's not too far away from the East Midlands so it's no a brainer really... Got Whitby in several weeks, a little bit nicer I think, barring the vampires of course... 👹🦇
Nah, young chasers is one the best modern indie rock albums. Better than the shite you get from The Reytons and Arctic Monkeys. If you like heavier music. I think their second album “Different Creatures” may be more you’re thing. But if you aren’t too keen on including the same artist twice in a row, I recommend “Cub” by Wunderhorse.
I'm still not sure how Circa Waves managed to bother me so much. Maybe I just woke up on the wrong side of the bed. 🤔 Anyway, the good news is that that Wunderhorse LP is immediately much more appealing, so I'm sure it'll do significantly better than Circa Waves. 👍
@@tokyochuchu You mentioned it not being catchy, like hello! T shirt weather, fossils, lost it, best years, so long!! All insanely catchy! But I guess we don’t all see it the same way.
@@oliver29731 OK, OK... I won't pretend that T-shirt Weather hasn't occasionally come back to haunt me. The others... No chance. But T-shirt Weather... GET OUTTA MY HEAD!!! I don't WANT it!!!
@@tokyochuchu again, I’ll have to disagree with you there. I personally find pretty much every song on this album very catchy. The production does not effect the listening experience for me and I find a lot of the lyrics relatable as well. So yeah, each to their own.
Glad you enjoyed The Chameleons record!
And as per usual great episode!
All okay this week, nothing bad at all. Again my choice is Happy Families by Blancmange from 1982

@ste.6026 Just remember to take a stake and hammer if you enter Whitby Abby and you'll be OK. 😜
