    I have the 2022 phat eTron. Partly because of your channel. It does manage battery temperature at 25C and harvest heat from the motors to warm the cabin. The same system manages battery temp whilst charging so it can hold the high charge speed to 80%. On a long journey like your test I would see 150kw consistently when plugging in.
    Would love to compare my 95kwh 55 with the new 95kwh 50.

    In addition to suboptimal charging tactic, tested car had inefficient wheels. If these two factors were corrected, it would be able to manage in 10:10, max. So in better weather conditions we are talking about bellow 10h numbers. That changes the narative completly. 10min diff on a 1000km journey is a very small diff. Plug&charge will eat that much, if not more, when it's fully implemented (in few months). I'm looking forward to summer test 😉

    Hi Björn,
    I really appreciate your test drives of various electric cars, very factual and informative!
    One thing I ask you is that we in Sweden have right-hand traffic, even on the motorways. It is prohibited by law to drive in the left lane except when overtaking a slower vehicle. All too often we see Norwegians who park in the outer lane, which is both illegal and extremely annoying.
    I expect to see that in the next 1000km test trips you drive in the right lane!

    I have a question about the camera rear view mirrors. The energy that goes into use the camera for the rear-view mirrors + the screens for it must draw the same amount of energy that is lost when you remove the real rear-view mirrors? The screens for the cameras must take some energy + cameras. There really shouldn't be any lower consumption with camera rear-view mirrors. Or am I thinking wrong?

    • @janfreddy123
      @janfreddy123 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      If you drive at 100km/h and the car consumes 333Wh/km, the average power of the car is 33.30 kW. Two cameras and small screens consume a comparatevly small amount of power. I would guess about 10W for 2 screens and cameras considering an iPad with a much larger screen and video recording can record for several hours on a 29Wh battery or a GoPro with a 7Wh battery can record at 1080p 60fps for 1,5h but has a much smaller screen.
      10W is only 0.01 kW. Therefore the power usage of the camera assembly would be only 0.03% of the total comsumption of the car.
      Because the mirrors protrude so far, they create significantly more drag and should increase consumption by far more than only 0.03%, especially at higher speeds.

    • @b127_1
      @b127_1 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      If you're buying a car this expensive, you probably don't care much about consumption, but you do very much care about time. I think most people don't regularly drive further than the range of this car, but if you do, then this charging speed is an absolute deal breaker

    • @tesla-spectre

    As an owner of a 2019/2020 etron 55.... this is just ridiculously disappointing from Audi. In four years they've managed to....ummm... do nothing? I can excuse the high consumption on the first evolution of the etron but come ooooon man, it's been FOUR fucking years...
    And for anyone wondering, after about 26 000km my average consumption is 25kwh/100km.

      Hey - also a 2019 e-tron owner. I have a MY24 e-tron on order. I didn't expect anything more: it's a facelift, which is totally common for how Audi manages its vehicles' lifetime. I think Audi did exactly what they needed to do: they increased the efficiency slightly on the car (never it's strong suit due to lack of PM motors) and got the range "in line" (i.e. at least close enough) to the market leaders.
      Also, in any combination of charging between 10 - 90%, it will put more kWh into the battery than the outgoing e-tron. Yes, the curve isn't flat, but if you do the math, you'll see that it will charge about 10-15% faster than the outgoing car. So same car, but better in terms of range and changing speed. Nothing revolutionary, but it's a facelift, not a new model. They did exactly what they needed to do and I'm sure they'll sell every one that they make.

      @@biff2bart509 I wholeheartedly disagree with you here =/. If this was a mature product line then sure a little facelift is fine. But it's not mature, nowhere near it. VW group already came out with their MEB platform so there is RnD out there.
      But in 4 years audi made pretty much NO progress with their top of the line flagship EV. I wouldn't call slapping in bigger batteries "progress". Not even the UI seems updated which really REALLY would need some TLC to make it more intuitive (then again, which legacy car maker has a good UI...). Now if the A6 etron is a massive leap ahead (which it should be) then this car looks even worse...but honestly, I'm not expecting much from A6 after this...

      @@anttiranki3690 Audi did a major update to their Infotainment with MIB3 in 2020 mid-lifecycle. Changing "graphics" just for the sake of it benefits noone. Also, the Q8 is effectively 10k€ cheaper because the new 50 has more kWh capacity than the old 55, or you get more bang for the buck with the new 55. That's a lot for a facelift.

    Half efficient than M3 RWD. Slower in charging speeds than M3 RWD. and much more expensive. Once upon a time I was a big fan and owned a couple of Audis. But, come on Audi, this is really poor!
