    In Oct 2023, we did a bike tour of Versailles. We met our local guides at 0830 at a coffee shop in Paris where we hopped on a train to Versailles. First stop was a farmers market where we loaded up on goodies for a picnic lunch. The bikes had baskets and rain ponchos if needed. From the front of Versailles to the end of the Grand Canal is almost two miles. If you only walk through the buildings you're going to miss the grand scale and beauty of the place. At the end of the Grand Canal and looking back at Versailles we had a picnic lunch.
    We stopped at the Grand and Petit Trianon and returned the bikes around 3PM. Our tour included "skip the line" passes and we were in the palace shortly after 330PM. We left Versailles around 6PM. Train tickets were provided for our return to Paris.
    Without the bike tour, this would have been just one more huge, over-the-top palace/gallery in Europe.
    I highly recommend this type of tour because it takes the hassle out of the logistics, and you'll see more than you ever would on foot.
    We used Blue Fox Travel.

    This was great! I'm heading to Versailles later this year. This was very helpful and I love the shout-out to Rick Steves. He's the reason I started traveling.

    Been there twice and we were all packed in like sardines. Very hard to take our time to enjoy. Loved the gardens. Daughter and I walked the circumference of the lake. Gotta try the hot chocolate at the small vendor’s cart. Love all your suggestions, really good to know for first timers. Cheers from 🇦🇺

    While I admit that Versailles is extremely beautiful, the experience was kind of miserable. The gardens are majority not well shaded so if you go in summer or something, it is going to be hot AF. The building itself is also massive and would take forever to get through without an audioguide. Some highlights are the Royal Chapel, and of course The Hall of Mirrors. If in summer, it will also be very hot and crowded. Another mistake is not bringing snacks and water. It is like DisneyWorld there. Once they have you there, a small bottled water at the kiosks or cafe costs 3 Euros and more expensive snacks and fruit.

      @christophermichaelclarence6003 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Always bring you with your own snacks if you want to save later like souvenir stuff. Common mistakes
      Speaking of hot, things have been cool of now.
      Another thing, we have Disney Park in the outskirts of Paris since 1992
      Why don't you pay a visit to our Disneyland Paris. 3days is perfect to explore. However the snacks are less considered

    You’re missing out on a lifetime experience if you don’t visit Versailles in the summertime. I’ve visited in June and it’s absolutely gorgeous. Also, the fountains play music and it’s beautiful and the only crowded area is right outside the palace. The grounds are so large that you can honestly get lost in places where there’s no one. The palace also offers go carts that are rentable for several hours, depending on what you want for a reasonable price. You can also rent bikes, or you can do a guided tour of the gardens by horse. It was beautiful weather when I went it was 80°F I was in a summer dress and there’s so many shady areas that it was divine. Also I really recommend getting a two day Versailles passport. This allows you to visit not only the palace but also the queens hamlet & the trillions; you pretty much have full access to everything. You also get a show included, so I think it’s a great deal. Also, that way you can split up your days where one day you focus on the palace, and then the other day you focus on the gardens🫶🏻

    How did you get back to Paris from Versailles? Do the train lines stop at a certain time? Are there ubers there to take you to train stations?

    • @jimmyandbabstravels
      @jimmyandbabstravels  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      You'll want to check the train schedule as they do stop at a certain time, but the great thing is the train station is right by Versailles so no Uber/taxi needed.

    • @jimmyandbabstravels
      @jimmyandbabstravels  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Usually if you purchase a ticket to go through the palace you’ll have time set to enter. Double check your ticket, then you can map out the gardens to explore before or after you tour the palace (which takes a couple hours at least to explore)

    I was Versailles in November 2023 as rhe Palace is closed on Sunday I went to the Gardens as soon as they opened armed with a map I saw all of them I found the Queens Garden laid out for Marie Antoinette next to the Orangery which I did not know existed as well as the King's Garden. I hated the one thatvwas modern based on Le Bruns parterre with those modern sculptures

    Hello there. I'm planning to go see Versailles in mid July, on Sunday because of the fountains. I know it's going to be packed with visitors, but I won't have any other time to do this. Also, I'll only have 3 hours for the entire place. I prefer the gardens and fountains more than the palace inside. But I know I'll probably not get any other chance to go there again for the palace. What will you advise me? Should I book a ticket only for the gardens and enjoy them to the fullest, maybe rent a bike and so on, or should I book the passport ticket, try waiting in line for the palace, give it a quick 1-hourish tour inside and then go through the gardens?

You walk to Le Grand Trianon en visit the casle only, then walk too the Le Petit Trianon, You don't visit Marie Antoinette Hamlet, You walk back to the castle and at 15;00 the cue outside the castle of Versailles is almost gone.
