  • Versailles is THE Royal Palace. It's a train ride away from Paris and one of the most popular day trips from the city. Today we make the journey to Versailles and explore this vast palace full of the most ornate and extravagant rooms you'll ever see, and a vast garden complete with an equally vast canal that makes New York's Central Park look like a small patch of grass.
This palace was constructed under King Louis XIV and played a pivotal role in French history being the symbol of the French Aristocracy and it's an absolute must-do day trip from Paris.
    Enjoy!

I'm in canada and we came here in the 90s for a school trip. I'm so excited to be taking my teenager in the spring. She's autistic and obsessed with the revolution and monarchies. She will be teaching me a few things this trip

This video was informative. The train info esp. I’ve taken notes of the details and interesting to see what Paris looks like that early including the train station. I will save this video for reference for our upcoming Paris trip this summer. Thank you!

I love how you guys keep it real. There are too many vloggers that go to the same tourist traps and put on a front that everything they put in their mouth is the most delicious food they’ve ever tasted.
I am going to Paris next year with my family for five days and I am undecided on going to Versailles. This will only be our second time to Europe. Getting to Versailles looks stressful. Would you recommend a tour?

    • @locavore_eats
      @locavore_eats  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

Showing the less than ideal things is half the fun 😆 If you really want to be independent and take your own time we'd recommend just going by yourself (the train journey there isn't as stressful as our experience if you do it right the first time 😅). And there are plenty of things such as audio guides, the petit train, and even hiring your own golf cart that can make navigating your way easier. But if you want to take the hassle out of transport and want someone to take you around then I'm sure a tour would also be great!

@@locavore_eatsAs French. You really dont have to take the tour guide to visit the surroundings, that would cost you extra.
A bit of History about "Château de Versailles"; it's where mostly of the French Royal Family resided
The famed one are King Louis XIV aka the Sun King (he's the Longest Regning Monarchy in History, 72 years of reign and Queen Marie Antoinette (she's from Austria).
The French Monarchy/La Monarchie Française was the most Powerful and influencial across Europe back in 15-16th
The Whole Architecture is "Baroque Style" similar to the Italian.
La Gallerie des Glaces/the Hall of Mirrors is one my favorite place and especially symbolic. It's the where the Peace Treaty of WW1 was signed between France and Germany.
La Gallerie des Batailles is my favorite place. Where all the French Victories was exibit.
That's not funny when you mention 1815 Battle of Waterloo between French Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte 🇨🇵🦅 (apparently he didn't feel well) Duke of Wellington 🇬🇧👑 Wellington

@@mariep237 Dear Marie, I am from Paris and maybe I can help you to make up your mind.
Versailles is HUGE. If you want to thoroughly visit it (buildings and gardens) you nearly need two days. Is it worth it ? Yes. BUT (a big but), will you enjoy it with too many people ? If you come to France during summer, you will probably have to face a massive crowed. Anyway, avoid Friday, Saturday and Sunday (Versailles is closed on Tuesday I think). Get there as early as possible and start your visit with the palace. And if you want to really appreciate it, book an extra reservation for the king's private appartements : that is where you will see Versailles in its most delicate elegance. Too often tourists only visit the "Grand Appartement", and it is regrettable.
Spend the first half of the day in the building and the second half in the gardens, quietly, and walk to Trianon through the gardens. But in one day, it is impossible to visit the palace, the Grand Trianon, the Petit Trianon and all the gardens. So you will have to choose.
Don't have lunch in the Palace : too many tourists. The food is ok, but just ok. Nothing amazing. My advice : once you leave the palace, go instead to "Pâtisserie Traiteur Gaulupeau", rue de la Paroisse, or "Maison Kuntz" rue Carnot (both of them not far from the palace).
If you need other informations about Paris (not Versailles this time), just ask !
Have a good afternoon and evening (it is now 23h00 in Paris 🙂)

Lived two miles from there in the 60s! Fabulous. You should appreciate it more and not be so sarcastic. Just saying... regardless of Louis not being"relatable" it's a marvel beyond measure.

Sarcasm is in our blood 😆No but seriously Versailles has probably ruined every other royal palace we'll ever visit. Couldn't help but admire the engineering and architecture the whole time (even if it didn't show in the video all the time😅)

I'm dismayed at the amount of litter all over the ground at the Forum Des Halles! Am wondering if it's like that all over Paris in the shopping centers, metro and train stations, and whether it's caused mostly by tourists. There are lots of trashy places here in Texas, but nothing like that!

The reputation of the French army collapsed because of the defeat in 1940 against the German 🙂 I agree with you : it is very strange how it changed so quickly because, to speak the truth, nearly zero Western army has been really successful over the past 60 years : Vietnam, Irak and Afghanistan were terrible for the US army ; Afghanistan was a nightmare and a failure for the Soviet army. None of the Western world army (France included) is particularly brilliant 😂
