Triumph Bonneville: Let's RUIN Our Exhausts (ON PURPOSE)!

  • In today’s video I’m going to be modifying the exhaust pipes on my Triumph Bonneville, aka performing the "Bafflectomy", a free motorcycle mod that makes your Triumph Bonneville's exhaust sound better.
The first step is to make sure you’re well equipped. Here is what you’ll need to complete the bafflectomy:
    A good drill amzn.to/41zUKHI
1.25″ Hole saw (get at least two, maybe three) amzn.to/48b1b6B
    Drill bit extension set amzn.to/480Ethv
    5/8″ Dowel amzn.to/3GSK79F
    Table lift (optional) discount-ramps.sjv.io/motorcy...
    Other common shop stuff supplies
    WD-40
    Saw
    Drill bits
    Rubber mallet or hammer
    Magnet
    Pliers, etc.
Welcome to the third episode in my series comparing my Triumph Bonneville vs my Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 vs my Moto Guzzi V7 where we are going to figure out what is the best mid-size retro motorcycle (for me).
    Today we’ll be looking at:
    • What is a Triumph Bonneville bafflectomy?
    • How to do a Triumph Bonneville bafflectomy?
    • How does it sound and run once done?
I’m doing this exhaust modification in hopes of getting a little more noise, base, and character out of my Bonneville, because character is one of the areas the Bonneville is lacking in this competition against the V7 and even the Interceptor.
I’m also doing this Bonneville mod because I have a maximum budget that I’m allowed to spend on each motorcycle in this competition. I only have $220 left to spend on the Bonneville, and this mod is free!
If you're interested in retro motorcycles, Bonneville mods, or free motorcycle mods in general, this video is for you.

Been doing a lot of thinking and looking and I'm coming to terms with needing a T100 in my life. There's one for sale around the corner from me that is very, very tempting. Looking forward to seeing how this competition turns out.

Hahaha. I usually just keep a little bit of money put to the side so that when a nice bike comes up at a very tempting price I can go for it. Ride it for a while, make it better, and move on. We'll see which of the trio I keep! 😬

I have a 2020 t100. I put 18 inch short slip on. It made a little louder. I had pea shooters on it when I bought it. I actually love how it sounds now.

When I had my 900 Thruxton first thing I did was a get the Arrow 2-2 map and Dominator sport slip on...... Sounded awesome!!!!!

No Triumph had factory maps for the Tor, Arrow 2-2 and the Arrow 2-1

That all depend on the firing order of each of those bikes... I dislike loud 270 degree parallel twins like the Enfield but don't mind loud transverse twins (Moto Guzzi) and the 360 degree Triumph.

Great point! Engine config really makes all the difference. For some reason I never cared much for a loud in-line four, but a louder v-twin never bothered me. We're all got our own quirks I guess :)

Neat! I've always heard of it, never seen it done. I mean, it's not like I'm gonna do that to my Harley, because I like the quiet... but maybe the Vulcan 800...

Hey John, I think you should put some loud pipes on that Harley, to help drown out the other noise source in your videos 😂 Cheers brother. Merry Christmas and much love from your buddy up north!

Good vid I enjoyed this good mod, I was unaware of this mod for the Bonneville, I do have Tors on my Bonneville already. 1 thing I'd like to point out if I may, that back firing is not something new, its that cat burning off unspent fuel as it was designed to do, the difference now is , you can hear it with the exhaust gutted. My Bonne does it with the Tors and my Royal does it with the Emgo Hooligan exhaust as well. Even with a Booster plug that allows your bike to run richer both my Triumph and my Royal have the decel pop :-) I like it.

Hey Karl, thanks very much for the comment and for the info on your bikes. Do you happen to know if your bike got the TORS mapping from Triumph on install? Merry Christmas!

@@YouMotorcycle Merry Christmas. I bought the bike used with the Tors on it, the person I bought it from said he mapped it himself, so that been said I'm not sure if it has been done although the person I bought it from seemed like a good honest straight up person and the bike runs well so I think it was done and he did it him self. I think he said he down loaded the map from Triumph.

It looks like this round is really RE vs Bonnie. Moto Guzzi seems shoe in. And leaning towards bonnie since it has exhaust mod, still gonna need to do that to the RE for it to stay in. And tbh, I feel until you swap the exhaust on it, fix filter box & flash it, RE won't keep up with highways enough.

What's an MOT? Is it some kind of mandated government recurring inspection? This is Canada, we have freedom not fascism lol. None of that here.

@YouMotorcycle 😆 I love the reply. We have to make sure our vehicles are safe for our pothole riddled roads here in good old Blighty. So we undergo inspections once a year. Oddly enough, vehicles over 40 years old are except

    • @YouMotorcycle

nah. hardly ripping around, not even doing the road speed limit. but i live in the most densely populated city in my country, so, there's no unobstructed riding on the road. This is the only spot I can go where I won't be stuck in traffic unless I ride for 30+ minutes away from the city.
