Only a moron would ignore millions of road bikes on Rim brakes that could be easily upgraded to Electronic Shifting. Shimano is in bed with the Bike companies in order to sell Disc brake based frames. This whole debacle is about you not buying a new frame that's why Shimano and Sram are headed to Disc brake on their electronic shifting hardware.
This is the first time ever that I get my hands on the product faster than you, luke. I will see how this groupset perform after I installed it. The Chinese users do agree on a few thing though. 1. Packaging foam is crap, a lot of burnt foam was left from laser cut process. 2 The rear mech is good, up there with 7170, even better. 3. Front mech is slow and hard to setup (but uasable).
@@lovebike Hi, the front derailleur trimming is locked from factory. Wheeltop guys just want us to use that limit screw and initial position to dial in the setup. It seems that you will need to contact wheeltop's aftersell staff to give that function to yo. At the moment, I am using only the limit screw to make my drivetrain relatively chain rub free. But I do wish I have the trimming. The initial position setup only makes my front derailleur shifts funny and I have already broke a front derailleur...
I've bought the rim version I've found the front mech is perfect, however the rear mech is taking , me a while to get all the gears synced. Its OK on the bike stand but on the road there a few niggles where it misses gear
Nice stash ! I have this groupset for a couple of days now, it is very good ! It was paired out of the box, so I didn't have to go through that part :) The brakes are nice !! They mention "proprietary" setup, but the pads are shimano road l03a compatible, and the olives are identical to magura's, so loads of options there. I had the same issue with the front derraileur after I tried a "initial calibration" in the wrong position, it needs to be done in the BIG ring, otherwise it tries to move inboard more than it can, and gets stuck. In my case, I set the "initial position" from the app to the small chainring and the issue happened. After setting the initial cal to the big ring, it has been solid since. Fine tunning on the front is nice, but needed loads of trial and error ! 2 of the "files" are the positions for the chainrings, but the other ones are the values by which the "trimming" will move. So, to explain myself, setting those to '0, means the derraileur will not do any trim. I had an issue where the chain would rub on the big ring trimmed position, as it was moving too far inboard and had to reduce that. GEAR 3 is the amount of trimming the front derraileur will do in the big ring in case it occurs to you as well.
@PauloSerra Big Thanks for all your helpful comments on the TraveVelo and GCPerformance videos, about your real-world experience with this new WheelTop EDS TX groupset. Some really useful details 👍🙂 The video you posted showing the shift performance on the bike, makes it look pretty good!
Good day Luke! I wrote to you with a question but I think I found my answer in this video. Just had to listen closely. Was looking for e shifting with rim brakes.
As always a great video. One thing I wanted to point out however, is that the rear derailleur plates didn’t appear through the video to be forged carbon. They looked like they were made of unidirectional (UD) carbon. Forged carbon is generally characterized by chopped carbon fibers oriented at random angles. Those parts appeared to have continuous fibers that ran the length of the part.
Wow .. where did this come from, a Rim brake version might be a great upgrade to my older bike. Super well made video as usual, definitely looking forward to the install and ride test video.
I have had the same experinece with my test version. When you do the initial calibration, you should be in the big ring and on the 11 tooth on the casette. So send the front mech all the way to the big ring and rear all the way to the 11 tooth cog in initial calibration and then to fine tuning in the first menu item after this. I have had no luck with getting consistency from the front mech, it was working perfectly for a month and then could not get it working consistently, no clue why, even enlisted the help of my LBS in China. Rear mech is absolutely excellent though.
Ohh OK, interesting 🤔 I'll have another play around, and see if I can get the issue to come back. Hopefully WheelTop will get this issue patched out soon.
One thing I think wheeltop and ltwoo apps really need is the ablility to set multiple custom cassette profiles. That way you can swap out different cassettes without having to do the whole indexing manually every time. It's also great for trainers cause you don't need a good cassete for that so you can just buy a cheap durable 7s cassette f.e., pop the bike on the trainer select the profile and off you go. Also satellite shifters is a big personal wish of mine. They're the main reason I still consider ultegra (can get them working on 105 too, but it's a huge pain in the ass)
I just bought an ltwoo egr setup, and I did a deep dive into their documentation and published info while I'm waiting for it to arrive. They have a 2024 catalogue PDF on their website that shows all of their groupsets and all available compatible products, and it shows some kind of trigger shift product that is compatible with their eGR and 2024 eRX & eR9 products, but not their 2023 e groupsets. They call it a Wireless Electronic Controller, but that's the most detailed description I can find. Despite the fact that they have product numbers (SL-E9001 for eRX and SL-E8001 for eGR and eR9), I can't find a single other reference or description for this thing anywhere on the web. I can't tell if it's meant to be some kind of companion controller or satellite shifter or if it's meant to be trigger shifter for flat bars. But, presumably, it looks like they have some kind of plans for expanding on the system with other, optional, controllers.
@@andrewm13 the catalogue states that it's for flat bar 1x use, but just the fact there is something at all is interesting. From the same catalogue it seems er9 isn't getting an erx-esque update, but it also supports that same trigger shifter
Their MTB wireless received good reviews, Berm Peak made a review on it and it looked almost close to a SRAM AXS, hoping for the best with this groupset!
Thanks for the review, I am about to pull the trigger on the rim brake version and the bonus clip"insert famous jingle" has once again provided invaluable information! To think that I came here just to hear the jingle and left with a baguette!!!
Wow, this groupset is going to sell a lot of units. The fact you can change speeds is amazing. This means that all those gravel bike and various disc brake bikes sold between about 2013 and 2020 with post mount brakes can now be upgraded really cheaply! In fact Luke, that would be a good idea for a video! Get an early disc brake bike, like with 8 or 9 speed claris or Sora and fully upgrade it to this , on the cheap! Will definitely get a lot of views!
You know what just came to my mind? A good way to build up old tandem frames. I see some older ones on marketplace or CL, but the condition (and old design) of the drivetrains and the thought of how much effort and money it would cost to upgrade them is enough to make me stop dreaming. But... Throwing a (hopefully eventually) cheap electronic (wireless!) 2x9speed drivetrain with a path to upgrade the brakes to hydraulic rim calipers is really, really exciting. Excellent shifting, excellent braking, easy and cheap upgrade. What a cool thing to look forward to.
I can't wait for Luke to deploy this new groupset on his 3-speed cassette build. We all know that if you only have 3 cogs at the rear it is especially a pain to shift across them all manually -- you need electronic shifting like no one else.
The ERX front shifter patent infingement was not about microadjusting in the go, it was about shimano FD slightly overshifting every time it is actuated and then instantly returning to the set position.
I still don't think those are cheap enough to justify the possible headaches that come with them. Spend a little more for Shimano/SRAM or stick with mechanical for me. Great review as always! 🥖
Greetings from Ghana. I'm hoping these groupsets show up in our land. I like how both derailleurs seem to work together to make the ride quiet and efficient. Hopefully, mechanicals will implement these for entry level MTBs... 😅
I’ve been waiting for this set to come out! The price is right and everything is of similar quality of LTwoo. Too bad they aren’t shipping to the USA as of this moment!
Been wating for this video for a long time,as a Chinese subscriber.(by the way,you can get this carbon disk groupset in China for just around 650 usdollars)
This allows more people to have competitive bikes, and COMPETITIVE CYCLING in the U.S is simply off the charts for participation. A full comp Chinese bike is your best bet for the season by far. You could run 2 or three WORKS bikes for the same price as any other MADONE level bling machine.
Hey Luke, I'm a rider from SoCal and came up to a group of riders and a couple guys were wearing Siroko like myself. They got the brand from you..... Small world....
The largest chainring known to accomodate is 55T while the biggest cassette size is 40T at a stretch. Officially, the front numbers from WheelTop is 53T front and 36T back.
Here’s to hoping that all these teething problems these “high-end“ Chinese electronics have get sorted like Ltwoo did. Interesting way they circumnavigated the Sram patent on two identical batteries for the front and rear derailer. While it does come at a convenience cost, at least you can put this on any bike that has external cable routing. And top marks for them including rim brakes as an option. That’s going to make a lot of people happy.
I bought a set of EDS TX with a 13 speed cassette and a 13 speed chain , I am very impressed with this set , it is much better than SRAM,and Shimano , the micro adjustment is for each gear and it is about 0.01-0.02 mm shift that is from the front to the small disc, the settings will changeand the EDS TX kit remembers the settings for the small and large gears at the front image for the different gears at the back you can adjust the kit so that you can not hear the Gear Change at all only in the legs feel the change of tenure ,I am one of the few who now uses the EDS TX with a 13 speed cassette, I recommend this kit to everyone. the quality is very good, for this we can use this kit for the rear cassette from 7 to 13 speeds. in addition, it is much cheaper than a set of SRAM and Shimano, please try and see that it is a product of the highest quality.
While you are on the 13 speeds, I am on the 12 Speeds with a fully Aliexpress setup except for the Ultegra R8100 crank arms. The shifting is sublime once the calibration is bang spot on for each gear and a joy to use.
Dang, I've not been on TH-cam much the last month after getting injured and having surgery. Then I pop back on to see I've missed TWO Trace Velo videos that are very much relevant to things I've been looking at! Thank you for all your work in putting together such great content! Nice stache, btw 🔥
tbh i have alot of hope for this groupset, the electronic mtb groupset from them was pretty decent tbh. edit: btw, i'm more than sure that the issue with the front dereailleur has to be with a minus X value; from what you shown, the front derailleur checks something on the realm of: if the value of the derailleur is less than 0 or 1, do this, else go to this position; and because the app let you set the initial position below the threshold maaaybe that's the cause of the problem, imo a firmware update solves everything
@TraceVelo if the next build goes well, I think it's mandatory that you build a mtb and try the OX. You're getting progressively closer, might as well jump in!
Looking forward to long term review. The biggest reason I see to switch to electronic shifting is front mech reliability. In your video it looks quite slow, but If it is good on the bike, I'm all in.
Been waiting to see you get your hands on these. I'm still using 10 and 11s in UCI CX and MTB races. Getting to run any amount of gears is great. Hated how the big S companies lock you into 12s. Chains on 12s are inherently more prone to failure under high torque. There's guys replacing chains every weekend! Also with less support from companies you'll see some guys start to go to whatever works without breaking the bank.
I'm intrigued. And it's good to see more players. I particularly like the flexibility in gear settings (they should ALL do that). BUT, the pricing seems quite high for an incomplete groupset and a brand new product with no lifecycle proof on it. Full kit of better known electronic shift sets can be had for only a couple of hundred more these days.
Luke, when doing the full review of this groupset, please describe: - max sprocket it can opperate with (36 teeth? more?) - if it can be set-up as an 1x (so, to ignore the front derailleur, or to de-activate it independently from the app); - adjustability of throw / leverage of the shifters (for those with smaller hands). I want an 1x configuration on my road bike. Campagnolo & Rotor have some possible cassettes for that (13 speeds). P.S. I'm not in the camp to congratulate you on that mustache... but I'm curious what your wife thinks about it :)
OK cool, thanks for the comments, I'll try and get then included for the full review. As for the wife approval factor on the tache, it's middling at best 🤣
Looks good so far looking forward to the build and to see how it performs. I've had a look on the website and only seems to ship to Europe, no option to ship to the UK.
Great video, Luke! another competitor with all the electronic groupset. btw im wondering it is possible to install a shimano brake calipers instead of using the stock brake calipers? 🤔
They have had to stop selling the MTB version in Europe because of a patent dispute with SRAM, the original rear mech had removable batteries. You can buy the Chinese version which is lunfeng EDS.
Thanks for the nice video. I run an Ultegra Di2 groupset. The benefits do not outweigh the cons. Still lots of maintanence required. The dissapointment when you are all kitted up ready to go out for a ride and you find out that your battery is dead 😭.
@@rogersliu1200 clearly patent infringement is not much of a bother to this manufacturer, they’re in clear infringement of at least 2 of Shimano’s already.
Infringement or not is not up to you or me to judge. if there is an infringement, other brands will take action already to stop them from showing up on your regional market@@miklm There is a reason why Wheeltop and ltoo designed their product in an abnormal way.

Is it me or dose the mustache give him a sincerely sophisticated look and sound. Love the video as always🥖🥖🥖🥖🥖🥖🥖
Luke, the 80's are calling. They want the mustache back.
*_Fires up the Quattro_*
When are you testing it out? 😁 We're already looking forward for the video
The mustache bro, 10/10 👌
Loving the Ronnie (Irish slang for a tache)
Dang, I've not been on TH-cam much the last month after getting injured and having surgery. Then I pop back on to see I've missed TWO Trace Velo videos that are very much relevant to things I've been looking at! Thank you for all your work in putting together such great content!
Nice stache, btw 🔥
As always Luke, You help us out all the time
tbh i have alot of hope for this groupset, the electronic mtb groupset from them was pretty decent tbh.
edit: btw, i'm more than sure that the issue with the front dereailleur has to be with a minus X value; from what you shown, the front derailleur checks something on the realm of: if the value of the derailleur is less than 0 or 1, do this, else go to this position; and because the app let you set the initial position below the threshold maaaybe that's the cause of the problem, imo a firmware update solves everything
Yeah me too, like you say the EDS OX, their MTB offering was pretty well recieved, so hopefully this follows suit!
The shifting on the front mech so far has been spot on - up and down - for my bike. A click is a click shift - nothing more nothing less.
Nice one, as unboxing vids go very detailed
You definitely need a mullet to go with that mustache 🥖🥖🥖🥖
I'm intrigued. And it's good to see more players. I particularly like the flexibility in gear settings (they should ALL do that). BUT, the pricing seems quite high for an incomplete groupset and a brand new product with no lifecycle proof on it. Full kit of better known electronic shift sets can be had for only a couple of hundred more these days.
Luke, when doing the full review of this groupset, please describe:
- max sprocket it can opperate with (36 teeth? more?)
- if it can be set-up as an 1x (so, to ignore the front derailleur, or to de-activate it independently from the app);
- adjustability of throw / leverage of the shifters (for those with smaller hands).
Good to see you channeling your inner Freddie Mercury ! Nice groupset by the way.
Looks good so far looking forward to the build and to see how it performs. I've had a look on the website and only seems to ship to Europe, no option to ship to the UK.
Wheeltop going in on the Instagram advertising - I would guestimate every 5-10 ads are for this groupset in my feed (wonder why? 🤣)
Seems like a very good groupset at the price point! Great un boxing review Luke. The rim brake set, does it come with a set of rim brakes?
So from what I understand, with the rim brake version, no there are no rim brake calipers supplied, which did strike me as slightly odd...
Problem is, I can get today an SRAM Rival XPLR with powermeter for 977.-, casette, chain and hainset included… Sooo, why should I go for wheeltop?
The price still needs to go down a bit to make it interesting. The Wheeltop costs €650 in Germany including taxes. A GX AXS only costs €370.
Is there reach adjustment on the levers?
Great video, Luke! another competitor with all the electronic groupset. btw im wondering it is possible to install a shimano brake calipers instead of using the stock brake calipers? 🤔
The baguette ghost has struck once again with the front derailleur🥖 👻
hell yeah finally
They have had to stop selling the MTB version in Europe because of a patent dispute with SRAM, the original rear mech had removable batteries.
You can buy the Chinese version which is lunfeng EDS.
Thanks for the nice video. I run an Ultegra Di2 groupset. The benefits do not outweigh the cons. Still lots of maintanence required. The dissapointment when you are all kitted up ready to go out for a ride and you find out that your battery is dead 😭.
That’s the genius of SRAM eTap/AXS. Just swap in a fresh battery. The fixed batteries on this group are a big negative in my view.
you can thank SRAM for pattern the removable battery hence no one else can do that design@@miklm
Nice one! Definitely some good stuff there! :)
Amazing video Luke 👍👍👍👍 GC Performance video was an advert rush job, you clearly tested more giving more information. This looks like a great groupo... Sad UK delivery from Europe distributors is not set up yet? Mah be a customs issue, all EU member can buy officially.
Thanks for this... do you know if the groupset can be set up for one-handed operation (operate both front and rear dérailleurs with one lever)?
Luke, you're looking more and more like a Keystone Cop with the 'stache. I wait with bated breath to see you appear with a pummeling stick and your theme song changed to ragtime.
