If you have questions that I did not touch on please let me know. I rotate this bike into the fleet and try to ride once a week if not once every other week. Never had an issue of dropped connection or faulty shifting. Just the main issue is software and a little faster front mech shifting would be preferred

Odd question here: does the app have a triple option for the front? I run a triple on my tandem in touring mode (otherwise, it's configured with a DA double) and this would rock for that application with how long the cables are on that rig.
Got mine on AliExpress. Under $600 for rim brake version. Installed on my Titanium tandem with S&S couplers. The fact that it is wireless made the upgrade easy. I thought about Shimano R8000 Ultegra, but that would have been about $1200. And running wires through the frame, past the front bottom bracket eccentric chain tension adjustment would have been very difficult. Only problem I had is on the tandem, the rear derailleur is much further away and sometimes, it doesn't get the signal to shift, and I have push shift button again. But very happy with it so far! And you are are right, the app not great, took me quite awhile to figure out.

@@GCPerformance18 Really? Ordering 105 DI2 from competitive cyclist right now is $941 inc crank and cassette. I don't really see the value of these beta quality products given the broader state of the bike industry. Maybe if we compare Retail vs Retail MSRP.
I was upgrading my cyclocross bike (also used as a gravel bike and winter road bike) to 12speed electronic groupset from 11speed mechanical Ultegra/105 less than a month ago and this groupset was among the top considerations of what to go for. In the end I went for SRAMano - Apex AXS shifters, Rival AXS front mech, second hand Rival AXS rear mech, Magene PES P505 Base powermeter cranks with Shimano Ultegra chainrings (currently in 46/34 configuration, as I need to buy an adaptor to move the mech up to clear 50t big ring), 105 cassette, XT chain, XT rotors and Sram Level TLM brake calipers I had laying around with Shimano adaptors to fit flat mount fork - that cost me pretty much the same price, but also included a 105 cassette. If there was even cheaper variant of this groupset without the calipers with option to fit existing Shimano ones, I would most likely go with this one, but that's no longer available. Hearing your thoughts about the EDS TX, I'm glad I decided to go with what I did (I'm just not the biggest fan of tlSram's shifting logic, but that's not a huge deal and will likely change once I'll convert to 1x with GRX 820 chainring for cyclocross races).
I like that you can adjust everything individually. If it would adjust in “real time” without having to shift up and down it wouldn’t be worse, but I got used to it.
What about service? Bleeding, spare parts, sending to service center or having a service manual, support for consumers. You know, everything we use to have provided by local Shimano/Sram dealer.
Very nice review j- thanks. Some Riders in the TDR are seeing Electronic group set failure in the cool BC/Montana weather. A trait of any lithium battery. An interesting test would be to see how far the charge on the battery drops if you cool the batteries. Try placing the bike in a meat locker in a neighboring store for a few hours, then re check battery life ?
I mean we have alot of heat over here, and also salt humidity, but I do not experience cold weather at all, but I can try to find a meat locker somewhere and put my bike in there lol
have had my sram red axs since its release and have mounted it on 2 bikes now. Still the same batteries. Same with my older Ultegra 6800 Di2, since 2016 and still have alot of juice on its original batteries…It’s the best investment i did on a bike ever. I got what i paid for. I think you will get what you pay for with this set too😁

About 2 week ago, I emailed the folks at wheeltop and they stated that they are almost ready to start shipping to the USA. But it seems they’re making strides to ship to USA as soon as possible.

That’s a wicked looking bike! I’m looking for a groupset to put on a Panorama Cycles Taiga EXP 2 dropbar steel tour/gravel frame set and was thinking about the LTWOO GRT 12 but will look further into this one. The LTWOO one is relatively inexpensive and well reviewed in general but it’s mech. You seem to think the Wheeltop one good value. It’s funny I have been Shimano all the way but because of the prices I’m only looking at the Chinese groupsets now. Do you think it works for a gravel bike? Can’t see why not but maybe there’s something I haven’t considered.
for gravel I do not know how iot will do with the derailer clutch, I would recommended a gravel group and I think they are working on one soon for this purpose, I do not recomened road groups for gravel
Does the rear automatically default to Shimano spacing for however many speeds you have? And if it does, will it also be able to accommodate Campy spacing? 11sp is pretty much the same between the two but 10sp is not. And will it store wheel profiles if I want to mix things up? Say a Campy 10 and a Shimano 11? I ask because my trainer is Shimano only but my bike is Chorus 10. I built a Campy spaced cassette out of an Ultegra one and it works but it would be nice if it no longer mattered. As for price, you can maybe get the same parts in 105 or Rival for less, IDK, but that means you are locked in. I'd have to replace everything on my bike for that to work and this will be much cheaper. And besides, I don't have disc brakes.
@@GCPerformance18 Campy 10sp spacing is .2mm more than Shimano, that adds up to 1.8mm over the width of the cassette with 9 spacers. It is enough to throw it off no matter where you start. I tried using a Shimano 10sp cassette with my Chorus and some gears just wouldn't work. I assume the micro adjustment screen would solve it even if a bit wonky to use.
I have lived for 6 years in China before 20 years in the USA, I own a wheeltop eds tx with a 13 speed cassette, everything works very well and I am very satisfied .In China, the 13 speed 11-34 cassette is already produced and there is an announcement that in 3 months the xdr 14 speed 10-36 cassette will be released ,chains for 13 speed have been produced for a year, the same chain will be able to be used for 14 speed ,what is happening now in China in the bicycle industry is frame 650 gram with a fork 870-890 gram , formed two companies ltwoo and wheeltop that produce groups of high quality fixtures and applicable from 7 to 14 speed no need to buy a new flu when the cartridge manufacturer will release a cartridge for 13 or 14 speed. greetings from Shenyang China.
that is crazy news and information but i am here for it, and thank you for this, hello all the way from florida, one day I hope to make it over there for a bike show
Wasn't there an option for race shift but it meant battery life would drop much faster? I've got the mtb version of this which doesn't seem to offer race shift. Might have been deleted in a SW/FW update?
@@GCPerformance18 there is another app called Pro Garage that can then take the Strava feed and let you know when all your items are due for service for each bike. Unfortunately it's based on MTB but it still works a treat for most items like chains etc.
Got 2 Ltwoos & work great, rest of my bikes are rim, can the batteries be replaced on the Wheeltop ,in other words are there removeable screws or are thet riveted on ??
Would the shift quality not be primarily influenced by the chainrings, shain and cassette? So a legacy DA, Ultegra or 105 10sp mechanical base should still shift fine. A gross oversimplification would be a rear der is just a chain jockey wheel that guides a chain and a front der just shoves the chain back and forth. So really its mostly all in the control system designed around it all. Synchro shift, auto trim, firmware support, etc. I just have a feeling e-tube's going to be supported for many years. What you showed? Who knows. Non replaceable battery and sketchy app makes it a no-go for its price point
yes you can, you can buy a braze on adapter, that fits your frame and then you can mount the front derailer to it, you just have to know the clamp size
I dont know if I agree, you can't really include chain and cassette because it's adjustable for speeds. And rotors are interchangeable but more of a frame fit (my road fork takes 180 rotors for example) Cranks are a personal fit, so shouldn't be included as everyone swaps out for different length.
I've been using the older MTB version that they said not to do a review on due to patent infringement with SRAM. It is a great system and works wonderful. Not as fast as Sram or Shimano but gets the job done. I really dislike the app as well and that is the major downside. Last year the app was worse than it is now if you can believe that! So at least they have improved it which means there could be improvements in the future.
The value is there as an upgrade kit. Let’s say you have a 10 speed mechanic disc or rim brake. You get this kit and boom you have a electronic group bike now
i love eds tx. already test it in down pour rain it flawless. but i hope they will fix the brake caliper in term of cosmetic. hope they can make it slimer and remove the golf texture. hate it. make dirt trap on it.
you can proclaim a product is amazing or great if you put a disclaimer on its other parts in this case the the FD and its shifting under load or during climbs😅
you would have to contact the manufacturer for issues, but alot of times if you have issues with sram or shimano that you can not fix because of hardware you have to do the same thing anyways
Too pricey. £670 for 105 Di2, which includes shifters, FD, RD, brake calipers, crankset, cassette, chain, and battery. EDS TX £487 only includes shifters, FD, RD, brake calipers, and integrated batteries (no crankset, chain, or cassette). Mad....
This groupset shines when bought as part of a bike. 2 werks ago, i received a full carbon (including 50mm rims and integrated handlebar) bike with the wheeltop groupset. Fully internally routed with wheeltop hydraulic diskbrakes. All in all, with shipping (to Europe), i paid 1100 USD. You read that right. 1100 USD. Ive now ridden around 750km on it to test, and aside from my setup errors (which were all fixed), its been flawless!
I’m not sure how $1100 is a bad buy for a bike with fully wireless and 50mm carbon wheels, considering bikes online. Is offering a Polygon S7X with 105 Di2 for $2200. Seems like saving 50% is a good deal to me (on face value).
That's awesome! Are you based in China? What did you buy? A frame costs around 500 USD, wheels the same, so at this price, you're probably not getting great quality, but you're getting great value for sure!

its a cheap entry point into electronic shifting where any other company is going to be more expensive, so I mean expect it to be electronic yes but not perfect
What is price difference between this and same components for Shimano or SRAM (i.e. without crank arm, rear cassette)? Seems like this is for people who have mechanical looking to go electronic. I think that needs to be emphasized.
Can‘t believe you do not put different bikes in your Strava Garage so you are able to filter the rides for videos like this. You do not need multiple Strava Accounts, one is enough
On Aliexpress, this partial incomplete “ groupset” is $560 and on Merlincycles, the Shimano 105 Di2 actual real full groupset is $996. So, in terms of cache, support, warranty, and resale value there is NO logical reason to buy this. None.
Good point. Seems like this is for people w mechanical looking to go electronic. I think that needs to be explained in these review videos. Also, what is the apples-to-apples price difference between this and shimano or SRAM’s entry-level electric systems?
@@millermiller75 as best as I could determine, the price differential wasn’t compelling enough to justify the risk (for me). I’m having a wheelset built right now with Chris King hubs, Sapim CX Ray spokes, and Light Bicycle (Chinese) rims. The Light Rims came highly recommended by my wheel builder and they’ve been building carbon rims for several years and have a good online reputation. I don’t mind inexpensive Chinese goods if I feel I can be happy with it and the risk is acceptable
@@ADVRaiderKTM and you get the complete groupset and the Shimano brand. If a derailleur motor fails during the season, I can get to Shimano directly and a LBS and get a new one. Getting warranty and parts from China to the US is really difficult and can take quite a bit time if you can manage to get the warranty honored
Not even close to worth the price when you can build a full Rival AXS - with cranks, casette, chain for basically the same price piecemeal over ebay. I've spent just over $1k to go full Rival and that included wheels on 370 DT hubs, and new rotors, plus all the above mentioned stuff. The batteries are not removable, so you've gotta plug the whole bike in, at two points, FD and RD. Then obviously, if a battery dies, the whole derailleur needs replacing, which apparently cannot be purchased individually. This set gets a thumbs down for all those reasons. HOWEVER, if you're wanting electronic without having to replace the other parts (say, keeping your sunrace or whatever casette, cheap cranks and existing 2x10 or w/e stuff), then this is an option - but then you're setting a new ceiling.
And I bought all that within the past 2 months, plus it's SRAM. I can't see a scenario where the wheeltop could be even comparable, let alone a "better deal".
I just don't see how it's attractive to spend $750 on this, when you can spend just a tiny bit more and get so much more from a better brand. If this only cost $500, I could see the logic, but it's not in a "sweet spot" price point. If you can afford $750, you can afford $900. So it begs the question, "who is this for?"
Please if you have any questions that I didn’t touch on. Feel free to ask. This bike I rotate in between the sl8 and its working great

No 105 rim brake option, this is a hell of a lot cheaper than what SRAM / Shimano will sell in rim brake guise.
So I just saw the new Pinnarello with hidden thru-axle on drive side and just realized that Windspace has already done it 😅
hahaha yep, also bmc has been doing this for years
@@GCPerformance18 Didn't know that. That's cool!

Hello, unfortunately I don't have permission to adjust the front derailleur in the app, do you?
@@iphone4toto445 not since the update …
Or just freeze the batteries?
I mean we have alot of heat over here, and also salt humidity, but I do not experience cold weather at all, but I can try to find a meat locker somewhere and put my bike in there lol
You can setup individual bikes in strava btw.
I have to take a look
The fact that they have a rim brake version is compelling.
have had my sram red axs since its release and have mounted it on 2 bikes now. Still the same batteries. Same with my older Ultegra 6800 Di2, since 2016 and still have alot of juice on its original batteries…It’s the best investment i did on a bike ever. I got what i paid for. I think you will get what you pay for with this set too😁
If they get better reliability than you think, you may have to reassess your thoughts. How are you gonna feel if in actuality you're the one (of many) who have actually over paid for a product (albeit a quality one)?

About 2 week ago, I emailed the folks at wheeltop and they stated that they are almost ready to start shipping to the USA. It was close enough that they asked me if I was interested in being one of the first ones to purchase an upgrade kit. I declined because I had already ordered a set from AE. But it seems they’re making strides to ship to USA as soon as possible.
Wow that’s crazy to hear. Sounds like they are working towards something
Great review, thank you. Will this be compatible with bike computers, in my case Bryton?
Yup, it works with the latest update
It’s worth pointing out you can buy a 13s rotor cassette and run a 2x13s. That’s what I did. Wonderful to have 13 gears in the rear.
is it any good ?
I mean the shift quality. I just need something that similar to 105 but cheaper.

Yes it should default to SHIMANO spacing. The cassette spacing is usually the same what the difference was back in the day was cable pull for shifters
I assume the micro adjustment screen would solve it even if a bit wonky to use.
nice review. Does it have front derailleur AUTO TRIM?
2nd Q - do the levers have a reach adjustment for smaller hands?
thanks
yes it does have auto trim that is the reason for it not being sold in the united states, and yes levers have reach adjustment
This type of products is bringing back some openness (cross-compatibility and reuse) to the bike industry. But some consumers prefer being locked in.
yea it makes the field more open for playing and puts pressure on the big guys
The wheel top in comparison to the Ltwo one wich would u prefer??
I had a really unfair experience with Ltwoo at first. Apparently it is much better. So far wheeltop has not let me down so im going wheeltop right now
The best option with this will be to buy the new 13 speed sram cassette that’s coming out and going 1x.

Ltwoo whats the price point?
Will i be able to use this 1by, my bike is 12 speed mechanical and I dont any attachment points for the front derailleur?
yes you can, you can buy a braze on adapter, that fits your frame and then you can mount the front derailer to it, you just have to know the clamp size
Comparing this groupset with Shimano & SRAM isn't fair (in terms of price), I think.. but, how about this eds tx vs Ltwoo erx? Which one better?
Please stop saying full groupset when is missing the crank, rotors, cassette, chain
Agree let's not compare apples with oranges
I dont know if I agree, you can't really include chain and cassette because it's adjustable for speeds. And rotors are interchangeable but more of a frame fit (my road fork takes 180 rotors for example)
Cranks are a personal fit, so shouldn't be included as everyone swaps out for different length.

So at least they have improved it which means there could be improvements in the future.
is it better than cable shifting?

The value proposition is not there. Once you buy a crankset and cassette you are in 105 Di2 price ranges. 105 will be better and hold more value.
