Hi guys! Kyle from Carter Auto Restyling was in the neighbourhood this week, so I coerced him into giving us some restoration tips for your rusty classic! I figured out "V8 Showdown" 1958 Studebaker was a good test subject, so let's get busy! Also: We just got in a new shipment of "Same Old Shit" coffee mugs, so get them while they last, haha! Oh! I do not have a Telegram account or any bullshit contest going! Do not respond to any of these "contest winner" replies; they are a scam. I honestly don't know how the two of you managed to keep a straight face through all this. That's some Monty Python level of self control, right there.
OK, the ad that came up in the middle of the video was ACTUALLY for the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance!!! Hilarious! The Pebble Beach folks will be VERY PROUD to have their event associated with this high quality restoration work.
The kind of day where I thought nothing could make me smile and found myself laughing throughout this video. No wonder this is my favorite channel. Thanks guys. 😅
Oh man I didn't realize the Studebaker was getting the full Barrett Jackson treatment. Mantis style filler application is a seriously boss move, thanks for the demonstration
Nothing compares to the Saskatchewan Sling when it comes to laying down any kind of product especially a mountain of it. I can tell Scott really enjoyed Kyles visit. I hope there is more mayhem and de-butchery to come.
I always appreciate tips like these from master craftsmen. As a layperson, I can never get my repairs to look this good. There’s no substitute for experience and skill.
Poor dude got took on this Stude! Let’s dig in a little and see just how liberal some people are when it comes to body work! I bet that engine is not original either, let’s see.
I've been panicking so much about attempting to do the bodywork on my 5 million dollar 250GTO. Now I have full confidence. Thanks for the great tutorial.
I'm a fan of both of your channels. I love the bantering and ribbing you and the agents engage in while creating running miracles from essentially boat anchors and on the other end the tongue-in-cheek monologs and corniness Kyle puts us through as he battles aged, rusted out or badly crumpled metal and his personal loneliness. I personally appreciate the "Damn the torpedoes, full speed ahead" idea of working in the heavy downpour, saturated to the skin, with electrical equipment.
Seriously, I was waiting for the blue flash from the extension cords and the sanders to the man to the car to the ground! Like a Taser taking down a perp! Glad they both survived!😉
OMG!!! 2 Of my most favs, just putting the shit to hack body workers out there! I cannot recommend these 2 Gentlemen enough! This was sooo FUN to watch. THANK YOU!!!!
You thought it would be dumb, I mean fun, to have Kyle join you. You guys don't need a botanist. You need a psychiatrist. Or a few more darts. That looked like a great time. Cheers!
There really is nothing that compares with quality body repairs. I feel I could tackle any of the jobs I have now that I've seen your instructional work. Thank you so much for the tips!
That is some sketchy auto work there that was a lot of fun to watch. Two masters at work on metal repair. What a fun episode to watch. The next challenge should be a body work challenge like this on a whole car. How good can you make a car with nothing but Bondo and filler with a touch of rattle can. Then try to fool one of the agents. What a great episode! Yes, I am subscribed to both your channels.
TH-cam comedy star performance right here! Thank you very much gentlemen. Forking out dosh for a canopy, generous use of product with essential, LHD screwdriver 😄 Result actually not too bad considering...better than the old Stude has seen in years. Eager for the driveway run come Autumn with Vicky. Thank you again, a fun relief guys.
Man I never laughed so hard watching someone pound a car with mud 😂 tell your new sensei though he forgot to fill the holes with washcloths and plastic bags stuff with newspaper before laying down that sweet fiber 🤙
I did that type of repair ONCE, many years ago using door screen , bolts and nuts to minimize the body filler, newspaper will also work as a hole filler. Keep in mind that body filler does not rust. ( lol )
What a treat seeing you guys working together and thanks to Scott for turning me onto Kyle's channel a couple of years ago. I watch every episode on both. I wore my "Fury shirt" to a car show and got some looks, they were Camaro and Nova guys you can tell.
Really nice to see that Kyle came back. Fun episode. Even trying to do shoddy work I don't think either one of you know how to make something come out badly - and the Studey can use all the help it can get! 😎 This episode - 2 Bondo Spreaders Up!
Why did I hear it as "We're here with our friend and legendary mental man Kyle Carter"? I concur my once removed 3rd cousin is def a legendary mental metal man with amazing skills!
Lefthanders have been a special breed ever since I reckon ...😂 Saskatchewan swing versus Albertan affluence was quite the interesting comparison of styles - the frugal neighboring swing also spares a lot of taping and paper covers, obviously. I can't help but think how much better the world would be if companies everywhere got rid of their HR Department and just gave the employees a couple of extra two darts and a beer break.
I've been a subscriber to Kyle's channel for a couple of years now and I must say I am a little disappointed with the repair on this vehicle - mainly because nothing burst into flames. The metalworking techniques shown were classy and I learned a lot from this video about getting rust-damaged panels to line up. As Kyle was saying in one of the most recent videos on his channel, the old technique of drilling holes into the metal for the filler to hold onto isn't the way to get filler to adhere to the body without causing issues further down the track. The technique of knocking holes into the bodywork with an ice pick is a much better method as the holes are bigger and allow more of the product to squidge (the technical term) through and therefore hold the filler in place from behind. It was excellent to see this demonstrated along with the special self-tapping method of bodywork retention. Those screws are expensive and specially made for the bodywork industry so that they can be buried for years without notice on any panel. For those not in the know, the first lot of filler that looked like the long-strand fibreglass product was actually a new product being tested by Kyle and actually has long metal strands instead. This is why Kyle and Scott had to use the grinder to bring it down smooth rather than just the hand sanding technique. The second type of filler was the short-stranded version of the new metal fibre filler and only required a DA to bring it back smooth. It's a fantastic product and restores a natural flow to the bodywork that is unmatched by previous filler types for strength and rigidity and has been used extensively by bodyworkers here in New Zealand for over 30 years (we were the original test bed for the product due to the age and condition of the average vehicle on the road at the time). Entire rockers and indeed inner door frames, sides and bases along with the odd A, B or C post have been remanufactured in situ using this stuff. Working in the rain allowed for the optimum humidity for applying the products used and the effect of painting in the damp and cold evening that followed was the icing on the cake as far as being able to get a good finish on the paintwork. I am certain that the Studebaker will look perfect from 50 feet whereas it would not have done so previously. It was a rare car to begin with and now with the artistic license taken on the bodylines, will be unique and therefore even more desirable - a one of one in actuality. Even though the Study may not run, she looks much better for the attention she has been given and it was a lot of belly laughs to watch. I'm an avid fan of both CWM and CAR and to see the two come together for a collaboration is always a good thing. Many thanks for sharing what would have been a great afternoon's bullshittery....er....hard work and fun. All the best.

Lmfao..love Kyle's bullshit..makes it fun and entertaining
We wholeheartedly approve of left handed people!
Awesome collaboration! You and Kyle work great together.
I needed this video. Not just for laughs but I realized my technique was way off. Thanks guys!
This is seriously the best bodywork tutorial video since the Dodge truck door. Just minty.
YES! who could forget the entire door panel made from kitty hair!
Ah somebody else remembers the Dodge truck Roman arch door repair. 👍
Roman arch
I honestly don't know how the two of you managed to keep a straight face through all this. That's some Monty Python level of self control, right there.
Oh! There were many failures there... a lot of editing, for sure, haha... Cheers!
A straight face is easier with facial hair...😆
The car only had a flesh wound!
@@smarternu It's had worse!
Hilarious and incredibly professional. Who needs a garage when you've got an umbrella? A masterclass repair. Kyle is amazing.
the smear technique of hand sculpting fiberglass was truly amazing...like I was wowed
@@IR-nq4qv Don't forget using electric tools in the rain!
Kyle is like the Bob Ross of Body and fender repair. They are not happy little accidents.

😆😂🤣🤣🤣
Good one ‼️
This reminds me of the Ram door rust repair... 😆

Kyle is a true craftsman. You should let him do the final touches on Laura's Rover!
I also like to get metal filings from the grinder and the lathe and mix it in the bondo so if someone comes by with a magnet it will hold. LOLOLO
Oh man I didn't realize the Studebaker was getting the full Barrett Jackson treatment. Mantis style filler application is a seriously boss move, thanks for the demonstration
It's very inspiring to find out I've been doing bodywork right my whole life
"Fumes make everything better". No truer words ever spoken!😆
Nothing compares to the Saskatchewan Sling when it comes to laying down any kind of product especially a mountain of it. I can tell Scott really enjoyed Kyles visit. I hope there is more mayhem and de-butchery to come.
I loved the trolling of Dan at DD Speed shop...while you were wearing one of his shirts. LMAO!!
Gentle, gentle, just a little schmoo here...and there.
No license plates required as backing material. The mark of true professionals! 😂
A lot of street signs go missing around Scotts house.
Soda pop cans were a personal favorite.Rivet over the hole and beat the edges down to mud over the rivets.
Enjoyed the educational video.... This is the kind of promotional video for the hands-on trades they should show in school!
The Praying Mantis technique was trully an eye-opener. How many courses (darts) do you need to attend to master it?😂
Tis but a scrach, RedGreen would be Proud.
Kyle is almost as dry as Karl Fuckery. Love it.
One just can't beat the quality from Kyle and Scott. My week is now nearly perfect with this priceless education!
Learning is fun-thanks to both of you! Professor Kyle it was a pleasure to see you in action and Scott, cheers to being an excellent student! ✌🏻
Kyle was certainly gracious to reveal his metal working secrets to the world through your channel. I truly expect this video to go viral.
The Stude is going to look fresh.
The greatest pair of metal workers on youtube by far!!

I lost count at how many times I laughed out loud! "OH no, I have a run!" The best!
Truly a master of the"Puke and run, money up front, " school of parking lot bondo repair. An inspiring lesson. And he was Frankers approved.
Don't laugh. This car could very well end up at a Mecum Auction and then be an episode on Uncle Tony's Garage.

Hey! That's how I did all the rust repairs on my Austin! Nothing wrong with it. A blind man on a galloping horse would never see the difference. 😄
This was hilarious ,I loved all the metal work . The huffers tent during the product removal was awesome .😂🍻🚬
