    If you're watching this and thinking of using those local black polythene sheet, it won't make any difference. Those are too light and decay after few yrs. The also can't sustain much damage during casting of the concrete.
    There are special plastics materials called Damp Proof membrane for doing this. Joints are sealed completely with a special tape. Don't cut corners. Even if you double the black polythene sheets, it's not going to work well.
    If you can can't cover the entire foundation, the cheapest, but less effective if to use the membrane when laying the first block after the foundation. Is will not protect the foundation concrete (including floor tiles) but at least it it'll protect the visible wall.
    Best solution always cost more. Instead of doing 6 bedrooms, do 4 and spend the rest of quality build.

      Which companies sell the damp Proof membrane ( DPM) and the damp Proof course ( DPC). Do i still have to paint the foundation with water resistance paint b4 filling the foundation??

    • @aberba
      @aberba 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@aka2793 personally, I don't think the waterproof paint or betumen will cut it unless the source of moisture is from the sides. For most people, moisture travels through the foundation block work. Hence the need to use DPM + DPC or at least DPC. Also use damp proof chemicals to plaster the just the base so plastering doesn't become the point of weakness. Once done, you're all set and free from higher maintenance cost in the future. I think the best solution we'll be to cast a moisture proof foundation. Cus even with the above, the building foundation isn't protected. I've also seen people wrapping the entire foundation to the top with DPM on TH-cam. A requirement in certain places... especially for basements.
      Oh also, casting your floor (5inch +) before raising walls introduces a barrier for moisture... you might as well add DPM there.
      Also water proof doesn't sound the same as damp proof. Something to keep in mind.

    That is right the ratio of cement is not enough plus they have not been tested to see what is the proper load each individual block can hold but as you should no it is poverty what the ordinary people can afford and the so called government dose nothing to help the poorer people but hopefully i hope to help those who cannot afford

    They did not know it is not the fault of the house holder but many of yr people come to Europe but they don't take note of anything I knew of this already but I am not on a plat form to tell those that are getting their house build a plastic should have been put on the very first 3course of block then they could carry non with the rest of courses there is water solution call black jack when it drys it becomes like a rubber that stops the damp from rising Futher through the blocks

    Please using bitumen to paint all the external walls will be an extra cost to the client. It's not advisable.
    It's advisable that during Plastering and painting, you buy Plastering sand and get quality paint with a good painter.
    The quality,coats and the thickness of the paint is what you need to consider to avoid rain staying on the walls.

      @franktaylor_  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      True , but some clients don’t care about cost. Again we have a chemical that can be added to the plaster to obtain a smooth surface .Fine Sand,good paint and a skilled mason is it all.
