I bought a used '01 5.3 and it had an aftermarket K&N filter/cold air tube. I found the throttle plate to gum up every 5k or so probably because it lets a lot more dirt particles through since its claimed to be "high flow". I bought a factory air box/filter and returned it to OEM spec. I no longer have any issues with dirty or sticking throttle plates.

My TB had even less gunk on the blade than yours and looked fairly clean, but my buddy mechanic cleaned it anyways and that’s what fixed my low idle issue! He didn’t even remove it cleaner and a toothbrush, he was still very through. Must do if you have a low idle issue!

That is a common "Torx Security" screw with the center post. Bits to fit these are sold in kits that fit a magnetic screwdriver. Used on many items other than vehicles and now, this fasteners is 30 years old, found in industry & military.

I didn't realize the escalade's came with an option for a 5.3. TB issues are a pain. I was chasing my tail this summer trying to figure out what was going on with mine. Ended up swapping it and it's much better now. Good info!

Rusty Wrenches You know I didn’t either, but I believe the earlier models like this one had a 5.3 2WD option and a 6.0 AWD option. I think later on they went 6.0 & 6.2 AWD. Not sure tho.

You most definitely have to clean the throttle assembly every now & then.. It makes a world of difference... MPG picks up along w/a smoother idle... That's actually the Vortex not being disturbed when it's all cleaned up... The slight build up of gunk disturbs the airflow...

It can be your IAC valve. There are small ports that on idle when your throttle body plate is closed allow you engine to get air in idle. If those are gunked your IAC valve can gunked and stuck in open (too much air) or stuck in closed (too little air). Best thing to do if your engine is high miles is replace the IAC and while you're at it since it's right by it replace your throttle position sensor (TPS) while you trying to clean the throttle.

Security torx bit, if you don't have one you still have options to remove the sensor. One is to cut a slot into it with a dremel and use a flat tip screwdriver, another is to use a small pair of vice grips on them.

My 2000 Silverado 1500 keeps throwing p0300 p0507 codes. When I start it goes to 1000 jumps to 2000, bogs down, almost dies. Then runs at 1000. It also is pulling.unintended acceleration.I have replaced
    Spark plugs
    Spark plug wires
    Coils tested, they work
    Clean MAF
    New air filter
    Cleaned throttle body
    New TPS sensor
    New IAC valve
    New PCV valve/hose
    New battery
    Oil/filter
    Seafoam fuel/engine
And then I had it scanned/programmed.. Bank 1 and 2 too lean. Multiple random misfire. Engine idle too high.
Codes cleared for a half a day. The truck ran great, idled great. Then Codes came back with rough idle.
Went to get another scan to see if new codes popped. Same codes. Unplugged IAC valve and idle did boy change. Where do I go next? Small town kid just trying to fix first truck. Anything helps. Thank you

It sounds like you are doing all the right things. I know you said you’re from a small town, but it might be beneficial for you to possibly see if you could have a tuner look more in depth in your computer just to kind of see exactly what it’s doing. It may be give you an idea on where to check from there. I’m not sure if those resources are assessable to you or not. I would also keep trying to check the simple things vacuum leaks, clogged fuel filter & injectors etc…

The stem that closes the air path will easily carbon build, to the point where it wont even rotate. Which means intermediate failure to change position/idle control-recovery.
Also be sure to clean the small hole in the throttle plate itself, along with carbon, top-bottom-before and after the throttle plate.

Yah hasn’t been on long yesterday showing miss fires all over the place just going from cyl to another then showed maf circuit low and map out of range. What ever it is has something to do with miss fire cause you can feel it going down road almost like it cuttin out like a bump in road if you know what I mean

It was stumbling at idle and hesitant under acceleration. Took it to my tuner. He said everything looked fine in the tune, so he suggested taking TB off and cleaning it as it might be gummed up. It resolved the issue. It’s been great ever since.
