As a machinist in the Navy, in a submarine support role, almost 40% of what we did was fabric to fit. We used anything and everything from materials, tooling, and machinery. After a while doing it, I felt more like an artist than a machinist. You take that feeling to a whole new level. Beautiful work.

It's just refreshing to see someone actually care for the metalworking involved. Even with modern tech, as long as you're not skipping steps.

I think I see why he did the steel the way he did in the beginning. It’s kinda like folded steel. He was mixing the grains of the steel around until weak points of the metal was minimized.
Are you talking about the way he did a damascus stack, that’s how he produces the pattern of the sword 🗡. If I’m not mistaken it looks like he stacked alternating layers of 18 and 20 and 1095. The 1095 is high carbon steel and the 18 and 20 is low carbon creating a pattern in the blade
