The people like myself who try to replicate your work for our own collections have lots and lots of respect for your ability. You make it look easy, but in fact it's a lot of work, and then to make it look presentable. Nothing that would ever be mistaken for something you made, but presentable it takes weeks. A master is someone who already has everything I don't know figured out. That's where it's going to be fun if I get there, because then its a matter of expression, and that's what it's all about!
i worked in machine shops for about ten years. what you do is awesome. tempering, grinding. shaping. and hammering are none of them simple tasks and very time consuming. what you do is done at the highest level. if i had the money i would love to have the smallest thing you make. very much respect to you sir. you are a master of your craft! ! !
This is one of the most impressive things I've ever seen. I don't usually watch youtube videos that are this long, but I was mesmerized for the whole thing. So cool!
This is an amazing sword but technically speaking this is not a bastard sword, this is a longsword. Theres really only three types of swords: the short sword, the longsword, and the greatsword. The short sword is obviously much shorter and usually a tad thicker and is meant to be used with only one hand, which is why the grip is so small. The longsword, the one in the video is a blade with a longer reach and is meant to be used with two hands for powerful strikes. You can tell not only by blade length but by grip as well, if there's a gap between your hands when you grip it's most likely a longsword. The greatsword is a huge blade, you really never see it in actual combat, the grip is collosal to suit the blade. But there's actually a fourth type of blade, the bastard sword. But it's actual name is called the hand and a half sword. A bastard sword is a cross between a short sword and longsword. It allows the weapon to be wielded with one hand and two hands depending on the type of combat situation. The blade was usually slightly shorter than the longsword while maintaining the more common thicker to slimmer blade taper (when the blade starts wide at the bottom and slowly shrinks to the top opposed to a more direct and straight line like the blade in the video) however there's really no "better" version of the blade and is ultimately up to preference and what feels more natural. You can tell when a sword is a bastard sword when you try to grip the blade with two hands and your grip extends onto the pommel. It makes it great because if a grip is too long it sabotages the wrists movement when using one hand. But the bastard sword is short enough to not impede single grip combat, allowing for a shield but to also allow two hands in order to deliver more powerful strokes.
When I was a child of around 6, I had a unique experience with swords, LOTS of them! By way of having an unintended gasoline vision, I had it happen whereby the millions of grass blades in the backyard had all turned into human beings and they were all dressed in medieval war garb which included silver/gray pointed helmets and mail armor and SWORDS! They were all crowded together shoulder to shoulder screaming at each other and hitting each other with their swords! It was only for a brief moment or two that I witnessed this scene and it was in bright colors and minute details. And it was something that rattled me pretty good. Sometimes, because of the experience, I consider getting a quality Sword............
My first time watching you craft... impressive. I like the fuller die that you’ve made to simplify the job. I was wondering at first why you were making ladder cuts at first... I wasnt until I seen you also drilling and scribing further to realize how you were easing the stress of stretching and shaping.
Did anyone else have to google 'Bastard Sword'? These videos are not only mesmerising and instructional with Freerk's skill level, they also prompt you to educate yourself about historical weapons.
Your swords look quality made and attention to detail is impressive,, the swords look as if they can withstand the rigors of hard battle and maintain there integrity. Really nice to view process.
It's like watching creation itself, but instead of the splendor of a universe populated thus far mainly with anxiety driven monkeys, we get a wonderous sword worthy of warriors of legend.
I'm a novice and have a few questions. Why was he putting the hot steel in that powder? Why was he cutting and reataching the parts he cut off? Is that like folding it? Why was he sanding it before he cut and reattached the part he cut off? Was that to help it stick together? Why did he drill the craters into the blade? Why did he heat up the blade then put it between two boards ? Was that to straighten it?
that's a desirable sword for sure ;) with all the perfection you put in your work, i'm just a little bit surprised by the glue for the belt piece attachment, is it really enough solid with all that weight from the sword ?
hey, your swords are awesome. they look really cool. can i ask you how thick your blades are? at the handle and at the tip of the sword? anyways really good work

Absolutely incredible. I love watching a Master pursue his craft.
Spring steel, from mild steel, and artistry to boot. You, sir, are a craftsman. And the scabbard, too! Great video.
Do you by chance know the material he used in this video? Is it, as you said, spring steel?

Skip to 56:40 and see a thing of beauty. Then on to 1:16:10 for the finished piece in its scabbard. A fine, very handsome sword Freerk.
Absolument magnifique......
Beautiful work!
That turned out well. What is the length of the blade part of the sword ?
Greatly impressed with your skill and the end result. It is a thing of beauty, truly.
Merci beaucoup😍😍😍😍😍♥️
Do you by chance have any data on the total weight and length of the sword and that of the individual parts? Beautiful piece by the way!
amazing. do you sell the swords you make? if so, do you have a website?
friend, could you tell me what product you use to darken the metal? Thank you.
How much would you sell it for if at all
Меч из домаска, это серьезно. Если мог бы поставить 100000 лайков то поставил бы. Руки золотые.

You put a lot of time into that beautiful Bastard.
Damn, now I have a strong urge to play some Dark Souls. Bravo!
what powder do you use, after heatening the metal block up?
And is this powder to prevent sticking in the press?
Wow this looks amazing do you sell some of your sworde
İzlerken mest oldum. Harika işçilik ve değer biçilmez bir el emeği. Great job. Hello from Turkey
That long forge that was like backfiring looks dangerous as hell! 😁 Awesome sword!
that's a desirable sword for sure ;) with all the perfection you put in your work, i'm just a little bit surprised by the glue for the belt piece attachment, is it really enough solid with all that weight from the sword ?
Y D if you noticed it’s not a glue but an epoxy. That combined with the threaded studs and leather over straps is actually an overkill.
야 . . !!!! 대단하네요. 이건 예술이요. WOW, So, GREAT. !!!! This is just ART !!!!!!
O cara é um verdadeiro Viking.
i've seen this video something like 7 times...and finally I decided to put a like on it...what a bad person I am
