      @@Rico_______ nothing crazy actually just some midrange 3600 TridentZ Neo OC'd to 3800Mhz with the timings tightened & Fclk @ 1900 to keep 1:1 mode - here is a screenshot of my settings:

      Wow those are high r23 scores for a 5800x mine only gets to 15749 how my ppt is 126, TDC 85 EDC 155 how come my EDC runs so high I set it to that but only Becuase if where the performance lies. Am I missing something I did this when I was new to overclocking so maybe I’m missing something

      @@bosmang1 im running a 5800x and it doesnt like when i play with it very much in PBO and curve opt. it seems to run best on optimized defaults, PBO disabled and XMP 1 at just the two simple entries of 4.5ghz @ 1.15v. If I run stock voltage it'll smack 100c like it owes it money, even with a very robust custom loop setup...I get a CBR23 multi of about 15800 with just the two settings i previously mentioned. I am getting ready to try your methods. I hope this video saved my ass because I was about to throw it out the window. Thank you!

      Really found it useful
      I was messing around with pbo in ryzen master before but i wasn't really sure what i was doing...
      i've noticed that after i set the curves to -24 to -30 (depending on core), I also set the cpu voltage setting offset to -0.5 v and that helps a lot with performance...
      Also most stress tests, benchmarking software, games, get absolutely no errors even when i set all cores to -30, but there is one single game that for some reason reacts badly and starts crashing: red dead redemption 2.... really everything else works great, even running stress tests for hours on end, i wonder if it accesses the cpu in some unusual way if that is even possible? it typically only has about 15-25% cpu use in game according to rivatuner. Really that single application is the only reason i don't just set all cores to -30 and +125 MHz extra on pbo, instead doing -24 on the two most problematic cores and then -27 to -30 on the rest and "only" +100 MHz (this is on a 5600x so it's still pretty satisfying increase) also I set the per core voltage in ryzen master to just 0.79375.... this works very well with the curves set this low...
      I find that setting the EDC to 119-124 is about the best for 5600x too for heavy multicore stuff and benchmarks like cinebench20, but i think for real world things, for gaming and such where you are not maxing out the cpu, maybe it's better to set it to something like 115 to keep the most busy cores going at maximum clockspeeds which i suspect is better for gaming performance, really for those situations i think you would hope the EDC and TDC limits are not even met at all...

    Thanks a lot, you did a great job covering the points. One of the issues I had was crashing and trying to identify which core it was. I had no idea I could find the apic id from cpu-z, which I don't think was covered in any of the guides I had watched.

      @@bosmang1 when i try to up my curves over -15. on the good core i keep 10. i crash in ceni23 if i put the other cores more then -15.The thing is im confused because when i do the event viewer it shows its a problem with my main core but i dint change it i just changed the others?For reference i have a 5900x

    Wow, I always thought PBO was cool but after watching your video and playing around with the per core curve optimizer, I got a solid 12% performance bump over stock settings. All while getting lower idle temps. This was a game changer.
    Also, the BIOS update that I needed for this had AGESA 1.2.0.0 and I was able to run my Infinity Clock at 2000MHz at 1:1:1 with some DDR4-4000 RAM. System has never run so well!

    Thank you very much, this was great information and presented well. You actually show and explain what these acronyms are and why we are changing them, which ones may be better for you under what circumstances, and how to do the gritty parts such as determining which cores crashed. Much better than most of the other folks with un-useful videos/posts just telling their story of shooting for the moon and how you should crank your settings up very high. I am interested in hearing more from you :-)

    This is probably one of the easiest videos to watch that I've ever seen on TH-cam. Absolutely perfectly laid out, and any questions that popped into my head were answered a few seconds in the video. Much better than any of the "top" tech TH-camrs..
    I just got my 5800x today and only heard about curve optimizer a few hours ago. So I just went into the BIOS and set all cores to -30, did a few runs of Cinebench but nothing too stressful, and I arrived here because I was looking for a way to lower the curve optimizer further!
    Suppose I'd better do some more stress tests and then mess with some other settings..

    Lots of stability testing, 5900x says nah, I maxed that bad boy to -30 on the optimiser and picked up 3000 point in an all core cinebench test 🤣. Thanks for the video it's really really good at going in depth to what all the abbriviations mean and how each value effects the clock and power limits

    Great guide. One tip to add:
    CPU Load Line Calibration in your BIOS can do a lot to stabilize more aggressive Curve Optimizer offsets. e.g. The two best cores on my 5900x are capable of much better offsets if I change LLC from "auto" to "level 3" on my Asus motherboard.
    Just don't set the LLC too high -- voltage overshooting can degrade your CPU. You can google recommended LLC levels for the various motherboard brands. Generally a medium setting is best.

    Great video! Just wanted to add that you can use a program called y-cruncher to determine which core is unstable. It has a Component Stress Tester (option 1 when you run it as is) that runs a series of tests until an error is encountered, in which case it usually tells you which logical core caused the error. Just take note that the tests will really work your CPU to its thermal limits (90 degC for my 5800x).

    Really good guide, thanks! I've found that I could be stable on all the intensive CPU tests but I'll get crashes (blackscreen / reboot) when idling, no WHEAs logged. For now I've just abandoned thte PBO altogether (stability being more important than outright speed) but I'll come back to your guide when I have time to play with it :)

      Idle crashes are 99% of the time from the best cores marked by ryzen master. Try setting those to 0 and do the other cores first then come back to them

      @@bosmang1 Cheers, I'll give it a go. I started off that way, but I found that just a small negative offset on those cores seemed to have a big effect on core speed (and benches) for all-core loads. Of course, that's not much use if it crashes at idle. I'll need to take your advice and be a bit more systematic in my testing this time around as well.

    Great stuff! Swapped my 1600af for a 5600x and was overwhelmed at all the options. Loving it though, PBO 2 seems really awesome, efficient and stable but it barely did anything out of the box until I began messing with the curve optimizer and following your guide. You got a cool channel here, have a new subscriber.

    I want to let you know that your video helped me over clock and diagnose my 5950x overclock super well. It's been a couple months but recently I've started crashing due to CPU and I tried looking for the WHEA errors in the event log, however, nothing WHEA related shows up, not a single one. This is super weird because I remember diagnosing which core was at fault on the curve using the event viewer for whea, but now it's blank whenever I try looking for any WHEA errors. Any ideas?

    Thanks for the nice guide! Although i dont understand for some reason boost override doesnt want to boost my single core performance :/ Ive got -20 and -25 on my best cores and -30 on my worst cores, although i tried to lower it to get a higher boost. The max i can get is 4950mhz (5900x).

    I just did -20 CO on all cores and limited my 5800x to 120 ppt 115 edc and 75 tdc. I have roughly stock performance but at way lower temperature. It went down from 86 to 71 C. You are awesome mate. I don't have time to do per core CO and i don't need +50mhz OC. My cpu on all core load boosts to around 4,475-4,525 mhz at around 1,2V. At stock it was similar but with higher voltage.

    Excellent tutorial. The only part missing was the CPU temps you got during those runs. I'm interested in the temps because this Ryzen7 5800x CPU, in particular, runs hot. I had to reduce the PPT to 109 to get the temps in line. Cinebench r23 runs 14,800 at 78C whereas before it was doing 14,800 at 86C.
    If there is any way to get close to your Cinebench score without going over 80C then this is truly amazing for me.

      The temperatures are in there, look at the graphs he calls "delta temperatures vs EDC" and "delta temperatures vs TDC". Those are degrees over ambient. It doesn't matter if your CPU hits 80 degrees C and his hits 85 if you're in a 15 degree room and he's in a 30 degree room, those are totally different baselines. Delta-T eliminates this.

    Hey man, great video, very clear and helpful. One thing I have to point out is that I can achieve better results controlling the temperature by limiting the PPT instead of the EDC. By that I mean leaving the EDC very high and turning down the PPT limit. I can have my 5600X achieving better results (at least on CB23) with lower PPT limit than with lower EDC limits, maintaining the same temperatures between this two different approaches. Might be different from chip to chip but thought you'd might find it interesting.

      This is similar to what I present in the video. The idea is you find your best performance with EDC and then use TDC to lower temperatures. This will overall give you higher performance per delta T than just lowering EDC. You on the other hand used PPT which in turn is most likely lowering TDC but I can't say for certain because I use TDC to tune for temps and leave PPT to be whatever it ends up being based on the EDC and TDC.

    Many thanks for this awesome guide. 5600x stable at -30 on each core with a +75 mHz boost offset. Raised PPT to 130 essentially uncapping power limit, slightly raised TDC to 65 and EDC to 95 from stock settings to pass 4.6 all core boost while reigning in temps a bit compared to mobo limits. Also keeps Cinebench multi past 11900. Hope this can help other 5600x owners just make sure you've got good cooling, she gets hot

    I stumbled upon this video while researching why my 5900x is throwing WHEA errors with no BIOS modification. I found several topics online suggesting that a positive curve optimizer change of the faulty core fixes this problem. Indeed, it does fix it, no more WHEA errors when boosting a single core to the max. However, since overvolting might reduce the longevity of the core and you state in the video start one shouldn't put in positive numbers, what's your stance on this topic, why does this fix the WHEA errors and what are the downfalls, besides a small performance hit?

    Thanks for the very clear guide, the key part for me was adjusting the curve down to 5/10 for my best and 2nd best COREs on my 5950x. I still only get 28100 and 1465 with your ECP/PPT settings so not sure how you are getting 10% more performance! Any ideas? RAM over clocking maybe? Could you share your other BIOS settings?

      I'm not 100% sure but from what I understand, no two cards are the same. Settings for his card will be different from yours due to the "silicone lottery". That is what I've read and understand about tuning a cpu.

    May I ask for your opinion on effective clocks: in heavy workloads (like CB) the effective clock is similar to the set Frequency, but if you for example have a lighter workload (like gaming) the effective clock is way lower then your possible max boost Frequency.. what does that mean? And why ist that the case... (Is it "wrong" to look them up maybe?:)

    Amazing explanation, I tried curve optimizer on my 5950X early on but didn’t work it out. I thought the best cores would respond to more undervolt, it seems it is actually the opposite. Also I didn’t do the WHEA logger view in Event Viewer so it was all guess work as to which core crashed when there was instability which became frustrating very quickly. I’m going to have another go at it now that I’ve found this video. Subscribed!

      Stress test cores one by one. Use "Core cycler" for example, it speeds up the process (shows which cores failed the Prime95 test(s), so you know which cores need higher CO)

    Amazing results on my 5950x + x570 msi tomahawk. I’m running -10 on two best cores, -30 on all the rest. 500/210/220 ppt/tdc/edc, +50mhz and I’m getting CBR23 of 30394. Temps hitting around 85 degrees during benchmarking. I can’t thank you enough! The logic behind: get the curve working without whea before touching anything else is the real gem, along with the event viewer trick.

      When you say 2 best cores... Do you mean the two cores with a star (one on each CCX) or the best two cores from CCX 0?

      @@shaolin95 the two best on ccx 0 buddy. Since posting I went up to -5 on those two cores and a couple of cores to -25 when they were crashing with whea’s. I pushed the boost to +200mhz and scalar 10x. It gives much better single core performance now.

    Wow good info, I just set my 5800x to -15 across the board with +200mhz, -20 caused some instability. But maybe I should try per core and reduce the boost.

      Hey are you still using these setting right now? I also got a 5800X and wanted to play with the CO etc. to get my temps down. :) I have a bequiet! Dark Rock 4 and the processor hits the 90 C limit during CB23. During the test with 100% fan speed it's still running all cores at 4.57 GHz so it's quite impressive that the cooler manages such high clock speeds during CB23.
