    My concerns are a 4cylinder turbo engine will wear internally faster than a naturally aspirated V-6. Something to consider when purchasing. I realize Toyota makes great engines for the most part, but the Hyundai/KIA companies are gaining in the reliability aspect in the last 8 years. They continue to strive to be the best, and I feel they will, as I worked in the auto industry for 35 years. I remember when I would never consider a hyundai automobile, but I own a used Santa Fe Sport, and it has been reliable, and fun to drive. I bought it used, and has never let me down starting my third year of ownership.

      I owned a 2014 Santa Fe sport 2.0T AWD. Had it for about 9 years. Never had a major problem with it. The only reason I don’t have it now is because I traded it in for a 2023 Santa Fe calligraphy AWD!!!

      Yes, the Highlander will have serious problems with that turbo considering the Highlander is loaded with people and cargo. The torque is designed for lower rpms so it feels quick on a test drive, but can’t sustain if you are road trips. Toyota is trying to trick people. They already have huge issues with the Tundra’s turbo engine with the waste gases.

    My family needed a larger vehicle because the prius was now just to small. The Palisade was very impressive. definetly much bigger, seemed like a more premium "feel". But the fit and finish was much better for the Highlander. We could not wait for car prices to go down we had to purchase before interest rates rose even higher as well. We went to the Hyundai dealership and to our shock every dealership had a $15k "market adjustment" markup. Toyota did not and hey even took $500 OFF msrp. Real life pricing in SoCal for the Palisade was closer to $73,000. We purchased a PLATINUM Highlander fully loaded for $53,602 OTD. Because of that markup I feel is taking advantage of consumers. Me personally shame on Hyundai for gouging working class people. Toyota has earned my business and people can not debate the Toyota reliability.

  • @willhaynes7624
    @willhaynes7624 ปีที่แล้ว +8

    It doesn't really seem fair to compare the highest trim level Palisade to the second highest trim Highlander. I know that they mentioned some of the options offered on the Highlander Platinum, but that really doesn't do it justice. Plus, that grimy green color isn't doing the Highlander any favors. Although there are a few more creature comforts in the Palisade and the Palisade does seem like a better choice from this video, I wouldn't trade the reliability and resale value of the Highlander for a heated and power folding third row seat that I am barley ever going to use. As far as I am concerned, it is just something else that I have to worry about breaking. Finally, you just can't beat the fuel economy of the Highlander Hybrid. 36 combined MPG vs the Palisade's 22. In sum, although the Hyundai Palisade offers a very appealing option, which has come a long way in recent years, I would still purchase the 2023 Highlander Platinum Hybrid in Wind Chill Pearl White.

    It is really telling of the value once you truly compare them. Hyundai simply delivered a knock-out. Power-folding mirrors, wireless AA/AC, and fuel economy improvements seem to be all that it is mainly lacking. Toyota would need the Platinum to truly compete with this Calligraphy for a more fair test, but I don't think the scoring would change.
    Yes, I know the world is greatly downsizing in engines, but the 3.5 was the secret sauce of the Highlander. The 2.4 is pretty buzzy and interferes with the hallmark refinement of the Highlander.

      @naveenthemachine The Palisade has many problems that has not shown up yet because it is still to brand new. but I am a gear head and it has some design flaws that just doesn't make any sense to me. 1. it has a PLASTIC intake manifold. it should be aluminum. plastic in the engine bay will become brittle and crack. 2. the 8 speed trans is made by Hyandai Transys. the same company that they had trouble with their past cars. 3. they utilize a high compression ration motor that means that these engine runs hotter. 4. they do not use hydralic lifters. adjustable lifters are 1990 technologies. 5. a MAJOR PROBLEM is they utilize GDI that is bad. look up VW recommends the motor be teared down every 30k miles so that they use walnut shells to clean the carbon build that will affect gas mileage, reliability, emissions. 5. lastly to change the spark plugs the intake manifold has to be completely removed Hyandai ingenuity $300 labor cost to change a $5 spark plug.... LET'S LOOK AT TOYOTA . metal intake manifold. CHECK. Hydraulic lifters. the latest technology for internal combustion engine. CHECK. has GDI as well for fuel economy but also utilizes multi port injection to clean the valves. so no problems of GDI. CHECK. spark plug change so simple any DIYer can learn from youtube. CHECK. and for the people that say well it's a turbo motor now and it will not last. they need to be reminded that TOYOTA is not new to the turbo game. I just need to say 3SGTE and 2JZ. last I checked these TOYOTA TURBO MOTORS are legendary even sought after today. CHECK and CHECK..... but hey the Proven Hyandai has proven itself the last 30 years with classic cars like the Excel, Accent, Elantra that blew cars like the Corolla AE86, the MR2 3SGTE, the Supra 2JZ and lets not forget Hyandai also beats the LEXUS LS the only Japanese Luxury car that successfully challenged the German Luxury cars. and please don't tell me Genesis because I have an even longer list for that junk.

    The Palisade (and Telluride) are the clear winners in the 3 row non-luxury SUV space. However, they don’t have the Toyota badge. Toyota knows that they don’t have to do much for customers to still buy them. The Highlander is far from being the best in the segment, yet it (and the Explorer) still outsells the Korean twins combined. Toyota customers won’t cross shop them with almost anything and if they do, it’s likely Honda, not Kia/Hyundai. With a Toyota, you’re guaranteed reliability and resale value, which are arguably the most important aspects of buying a car. It’s a reason Toyota/Lexus is the richest and largest car manufacturer in the world.

That V6 is very primitive -- the tech was current in the 90s or early 2000s. It's competent, but woefully hard on gas compared with e.g., the CX-90 that makes 30% more power and gets 30% more mpg. Reliability on these Korean vehicles has been pretty bad (hence the long warranties). Any experienced mechanic will tell you that Hyundai / Kia motors fail more than almost any other brand. So, great value as long as you don't plan on keeping one of these as long as you can keep a Toyota (they'll easily last 20 years with proper maintenance).

      @@TripleMachine What does it being a new product have the do with anything? This generation Highlander and Palisade/Telluride were released in the same year. In 2021, only 86k Palisades were sold, 264k Highlander were sold. That’s almost 3 times as many Palisades. Even combined with the Telluride, they’re almost 90k units off of the Highlander. Toyota has the reputation that Hyundai/Kia doesn’t!

  • @pedrosalmeida6223
    @pedrosalmeida6223 ปีที่แล้ว

    My pick is the Toyota Highlander platinum. My previous cars Honda, Volvo, GMC, Buick, Ford, Audi, Peugot, Toyota Rav, Kia Soul, Hyndai elantra. Toyota and Honda 250,000 to 300,000 miles/ km very little maintenance. Therefore for reliability for owning a car is Toyota and it has enough features, luxury and room. If your looking for more Tech features, more cubic feet, money is not a concern, more then 5 family members, and leasing for short periods, it would be Hyundai. Bang for the buck and long haul financially, residual value to sell or from accidents, it would be Toyota by a mile.

Of course it’s the customer’s fault if they are willing pay these markups because they don’t have to one of the vehicles today or tomorrow.

    All vehicles regardless of maker have their good and bad points. I think though in a lot of ways. Toyota is in catchup mode. For too long, it knew it was the top dog and kingpin and didnt do anything to try and keep it ( A good example of this is look at Toyota's latest version of the Land Cruiser). Now it has serious competition and has to do changes to keep up with the competition. I am not a Toyota hater, nor am I a Hyundai / Kia hater. Toyota's have not been free of issues with various models at different times. Same with Hyundai / Kia. If it is man-made it can break. For what they are they are good vehicles. At the end of the day I think it more comes down to personal choice. If you are a Toyota fan then obviously you will tend to go Toyota and likewise if your a fan of Hyundai. It also comes down to what you are wanting. If one offers something your specifically looking for and the other does not ... then you will go for what your wanting.

    I've been cross shopping these two vehicles for a while, and while the Hyundai might win with features. The one thing they're lacking is reliability, where Toyota absolutely blows them out of the water.
    Before all the Hyundai fanboys come screaming at me, I currently own a 2017 Sonata Sport. It was great at first, but it quickly started to show its age. After only 3 years it started burning oil, I raised the concern to Hyundai and they said 1qt burned every 1000 miles is "normal" and that I just need to keep an eye on the oil level and keep adding more. I did not fall into the "adverse" oil change recommendation in the manual and was doing 5k mile oil changes...which Hyundai said was perfectly fine. I burned enough oil that I was getting a low oil pressure light between changes. Hyundai refuses to acknowledge the problem. I also had a problem this year where my ECU was saying I had an engine knock and went into limp mode. It sat at the dealership for 5 days, they refused to give me a loaner because "they didn't have any"...because other customers were using all of theirs for other issues. They claim it was simply a software update that was needed under a recall that I missed, even though I have the paperwork to show I had that exact upgrade/recall fixed a year prior.
    I can't trust a vehicle that's going to have a possibility of consistent engine issues.
