A Brief History of Miracle Strip Amusement Park

  • Miracle Strip Amusement Park was the most popular attraction on old Panama City Beach. For decades it was in the top ten most attended tourist attractions in Florida. This amazing accomplishment was due primarily to the high quality of the park atmosphere. The ambiance was as good as you would find at parks like Disney World...just on a much smaller scale. Wow!! I remember everything in this video. I was born in 1963. My Father was stationed at Tyndall. This brought back wonderful memories!!! I was able to take my children to Mirical Strip only one time before it was torn down. The Starliner was old and I felt it shaking so bad I thought it was going to fall apart before the ride was over!!🤣🤣🤣 Wish it was still there so I could take my Grandchildren to enjoy all the fun I had there as a child. My, my, my. How time does fly!!! RIP Miracle Strip. I cried when they tore you down........... Along with the "Jolly Green Giant"!!! Wish I could turn back time.......Those were very happy days!😊😊😊

My mother took me and my brother to PCB for the first time back in 1974. We stayed in the Casa Loma hotel on the strip and would frequent the amusement park. The videos you have provided brought back all those feelings of joy I had as a child and the good times I had with my family. Thank you!

My parents were on their honey moon in March 1978 when Jim (King) Barnett broke the Guinness book of records for riding a roller coaster the most consecutive times. He rode the Starliner for an entire week. They sat behind him at some point when he was doing this. They told me he had a pillow and a blanket with him and slept on it lol. He later returned in 1980 and rode it 15 consecutive days.

We rode the spook house over and over to get some smooch time in so her Dad wouldn't catch us!! Oh man, good times! Thanks for the videos! Don't forget the frozen chocolate covered bananas!! lol.

THANK YOU poster! It brings tears to my eyes seeing this video. So many memories at MSAP...I told my first girlfriend (we were 10) that I loved her on the roller coaster there. I had a season pass for years and went all the time. Its SUCH a shame they took it down. I bet if it was resurrected today it would be packed! Thank you MSAP for all the great memories! I think growing up in the 70s 80s and 90s was much better than kids have it today.

I remember getting on the Starliner in the early 70’s as a young kid with an arm I’d broken a month earlier. I had promised my mom that I wouldn’t ride the coaster but did it anyways. She wasn’t happy about taking me back to Bay Memorial the next day to have my arm re-set. I can honestly say the Starliner broke my arm-LOL

We had to get out once each summer and go to the Miracle Strip and also get a fresh air brush tshirt at one of the gift shops on the strip.

I was born and raised in Panama City. It would be easier to tell you where I DIDN'T live in Bay County. The footage of the entrance at night, with its glowing orbs. My parents would save up and take my sister and I once each summer. I still remember the absolute THRILL I would feel as I looked up at that sign while walking to the gates. The sound of the bumper cars to the left of the entrance. You could hear the bell of the High Striker game and, of course, the smell of cotton candy, Carmel and candy apples, burgers and fries. The sound of the carousel. Above it all, the click clack of the.roller coaster. The looper. We.called it the bullet, but my wife(from up north) calls it the salt and pepper shaker. Just as apt to make pee your pants as it was to make.you throw up. The Music Express, the Spider, the Log Flume, Wave Swinger, the Dungeon, the Abominable Snowman. All of these rides run by 16 year olds...lol Yes, as I got older, I was one of them. For 2 years, first year, when I worked the roller coaster, the "Beach Needle" was across the street. The next year, it was an empty space.

I worked there from 77 to 78. There was more weed being dealt from that park than you can imagine. They would go into the Abominable Snowman ride before the park opened and would split up pounds to be distributed by certain people in the park. One of the owner's sons was the big dealer. Untouchable by the beach police. Just telling it like it was.

I think there were many reasons. The primary reason in 2004 was the endless offers of more money than the owners could refuse. A condo developer finally convinced the family to sell. The developer went bankrupt before any condo construction began and the case has been tied up in litigation ever since. Thanks for commenting.
