I live here in Panama City Beach, just behind where Petticoat Junction used to be. As a child and a teenager, PJ was one of my favorite hangouts. It was inexpensive enough to do every day. A buddy and I used to rent one of the Paddle Boats every day. We’d paddle out on the lake and feed the turtles. Mr. Churchwell had the “Seafarer Restaurant,” that was very popular at the time, and it was built out over the lake. We’d paddle underneath the restaurant for shade. Sometimes we’d paddle around the backside of the lake up into the creek that fed it. There’s still some of the old train track left back in the block of woods behind Walmart, and across Churchwell Street in front of the Post Office. This is on the backside of the park where the old ghost town and the petting zoo were. So far as the train, I know some (or maybe all of it), is up in north Alabama near I think what is called Warrior, just north of Birmingham. There’s a popular mansion (I believe that’s owned by the Hallmark family), on the left a few miles north of Birmingham on I-65. It sits on a huge spread, way off the road. Behind that house is a train and I understand it’s the train from Petticoat Junction that used to be here in PCB. Thank you for the video. I really miss that place, and there was much more to do here in those days than it is now.

We lived in PC from '76 till '79 & visited Petticoat Junction on a regular basis! It was very family friendly while Miracal Strip amusement park was geared towards teens & young adults. The Tornado was the 1st roller coaster I ever rode! Mmy favorite ride was the Magic Carpet!! What great memories!! ❤❤❤

I was born in '73.. I lived about 45 mins away. I went to Petticoat Junction and Miracle Strip Amusement Parks all the time growing up until they closed Petticoat in '84. I also went to Pirates Island Amusement Park in Ft. Walton Beach, Fl. You should do one on that place Mike. Thanks for the memories.

I never rode the tornado, but when I was around 8 or so I went to Panama on vacation for the 1st time, woulda been 1982, and Petticoat Junction was still there. They charged separately for the rides, weren't offering all-rides armbands like Miracle Strip, so I only got to ride Magic Carpets. It was actually pretty cool, it was a rip off of Peter Pan's Flight at Disney World but with an Arabian Nights theme, had genies and what not in it. My memory of it was that it ended in this big round cave-like area where your carpet slowly looped around from high up down towards the ground then out of the cave and you were done.

I remember that park, it competed with miracle strip. The park actually shut its doors I believe in the early 80's and the park was still standing their in that walmart parking lot until 1985, then they started to tare it down. I was actually 5 years old when I road the tornado roller coaster in 1979. I remember miracle strip more as a kid then petticoat, but remember my first ever rollercoaster ride at petticoat. Thank you so much for sharing this , My Grandmother On my dads side, marries into the Churchwell family when I was a baby & they owned petticoat junction theme park & a strip shopping center right next door , where my granny & Aunt worked at the Laundromat there. Granny worked there until it closed, I believe ? I would have to ask my dad and aunts about her age . She passed away in her 80’s & it wasn’t too long after it was closed . Again I’m not sure of the time line.
She lived in a little house right behind the amusement park, I spent a lot of time there growing up, I haven’t been able to get back in yrs.
I knew that Walmart was there, I still have family in the area & my dad told one time when he visited . He’s 80 now .
It’s crazy to see it & think about how much time has flown by.
Once again , THANK YOU !
One more thing it’s crazy to see the buildings across the street and not see the beach , this makes me sad 😞 ~ Tricia

I remember hearing the whistle from the train several miles away while at my grandma's out on the beach. We loved going there as kids, riding the train to the back lot where the old west town was, watching a shootout, going into the old time shops, plus the rides and such on the main side of the park. I have no idea why it closed down while Miracle Strip Amusement Park stayed open...everyone I knew like Petticoat Junction better. Perhaps bad management, or just hard times. I miss it.

Wow that is fascinating. Petticoat Junction is my all time favorite TV show, I love its innocence before CBS's famous rural purge that ended Andy Griffith Show, Petticoat Junction, Beverly Hillbillies, Green Acres and a few others. The purge was CBS's biggest mistake as those shows were replaced with trash like All in the Family, Love American Style, Sanford and Sons which simply didn't stand up to the Henning creations. I wonder if any of the girls like Linda Kay Henning, Meredith McRay, and the others ever visited the theme park. Bea Benederet died during the fifth season so I doubt she ever had enough time to visit the park that enshrined her great acting.

It's a shame to see the remnants of this area that used to be the Petticoat Junction themed amusement park. All though I was born in 1993, I really enjoy things that were way before my time such as 1960s era movies like the old westerns with Clint Eastwood, and John Wayne, 1940s era music such as Glenn Miller, Frank Sinatra, etc. But Petticoat Junction was a really great sit com. I remember watching re runs of the show when it was on MeTV at 6am. When I was still in school, I used to wake up to Petticoat Junction every morning and at 6:30am, I watched re runs of The Beverly Hillbillies, and that was a good show as well. MeTV doesn't have these good shows on their programming in my area at the moment because they change their lineup every so often for variety you know to keep things interesting. Also I enjoy so much more of old TV shows too like Adam-12, Dragnet, Gunsmoke, Bonanza, Wagon Train, and much more. Dragnet and Gunsmoke used to be old radio programs before television and SiriusXM satellite radio channel 148 Radio Classics does re runs of those programs and others as well such as Suspense, The Green Hornet, etc. It's kind of challenging these days to find shows like these and most music and TV these days is just plain garbage, so that's why I like the classics these days. I like old steam and diesel trains and anything else that still works and old like VCRs and VHS tapes, audio cassette tapes, 1980s era arcade games like Galaga, Asteroids, etc. So, with I just mentioned, thanks for sharing this tape of the remnants of what's left of the old Petticoat Junction themed amusement park and it breaks my heart of what kind of world we live in today. Hardly anyone follows the rules, teenagers doing stupid and dangerous things, etc. It's not the same in the 2020s compared to like the 1940s, 1950s, etc.

A number of rides went to Detroit in 1985 after the auction to an amusement park in a factory that never totally opened. They had the 1922 PTC carousel which ended up at Peddler's Village in Lahaska PA in 1998. The Magic Carpet from Pacific Ocean Park also was in Detroit in pieces and I have a number of the towers and arches from the front and one of the two pieces of surviving fringed carpets from the car fronts. We used to carry our cds and if radio clean version, they would play it on the rides at Miracle Strip first come first serve so if some one beat u to it they wouldnt play it but that rarely happened. I will never forget, even though it was an old song at the time, i heard Queen's, Another One Bites the Dust for the first time on my first ride on the Dantes Inferno commonly known as the Devil. The strobe lights and the inside dome with red and white ring lights flashing back and forth to the beat. It was Awesome. Just like the 80s. Had no idea our country all over would get so bad. Besides maybe Disney, our theme parks suck now. There will never be another Miracle Strip Amusement Park. ☹️. I cant watch ur vids much i get sad. They even messed up Shipwreck Island now. Kept modifying or Sissifying the rapids. Took out Skull Island it looks like. Took out the bad ass freaking whirlpool hidden way back in that cave. Our public culture is pissed off and terrible now. Got a picture of me when I was 6 1980. We took the train to the western town on the way bandits jumped aboard the train held me up with guns pointing at me and took my quarters....I was scared shitless the rest of the time I was there anyway I have the picture of me getting held.up.

that’s so cool, kids today can’t get that, I’ve been on a ride like that as well and I still remember it like it was yesterday. Of course I was scared at the time but looking back on it now, it sucks the modern kids won’t get to experience that
