72. Exploring Life on a Narrowboat: Journey North to Hopwas

- We meet you at Fazeley Junction on the Coventry Canal this week as we continue our Narrowboat journey towards the Trent and Mersey Canal. Turn around bright eyes...turning our 68ft narrowboat, twice, to complete a water run before setting off for Hopwas in preparation for our narrowboat engine service. Paul and I reminisce about when we first met and this brings us on to the question 'Do ducks mate for life?!' Join us a we cruise, chat and have a good old giggle as we travel the inland waterways.

Honeslty Jan, when a dog is walking on tow path, Ernie sits bolt up right in his bed on the boat and I'm pretty sure I see him looking down upon them and almost smirking at the other dogs as if he really is the king 🤣😀

Ernie's the true captain of those boat for sure 😉 we are loving boatlife. To be fair winter, although it was wet it was milder so it was kind to us for our first winter living on the boat and we have loved it. We loved how peaceful it was. Saying that, we obviously look forward to sunnier, dryer days ahead and can't wait to continue this amazing life into the different seasons. 😀

Thank you so much Trevor, we are honestly loving boatlife, love how we now notice the change of seasons, the buds on the trees etc and constantly have a weather app open on our phone nowadays. Love how this life changes your view on the everyday 😀
Primarni oooooh I love going there, Only place you can buy loadsa jeans and T-shirts, Shorts, jumpers, and think you've spent about 300 quid and get to the till and it's only about a hundred! Paul you cook a mean dinner mate! Marry me haha! Those towpaths looked a bit dodgey, more water on them than in the canal. Won't be long before you start seing little baby ducks following mummy duck while daddy duck swans off down the pub lol. Liz 17yrs together?.... He saved the best till last :) lol. Great vlog as always guys My wednesday is complete haha! :)
Ha ha daddy ducks all in a line up at the pub 🤣 He does cook a mean roast and Shepherds pie is also one of his fab dishes. Primarks great for that isn't it, go in basket loaded up and come out with change. Complete opposite to the old days when you used to go in Wilkinsons for a battery and come out with no money left in wallet 🤣😀

Now that we are retired and travel 3 months in the summer to escape the Florida heat I would love one of those trips to be on the canals on a narrow boat. Your boat is lovely. Yes when you get too many males and not so many females It will get very bad for some younger females, sometimes drowning will happen to the females.

I can almost see you.😀 shopping at Ventura Park is my fortnightly treat, Tame Otter, spend many lunchtimes there but have never braved walking on the edge of Whittington Barracks firing range. The barracks was once where newly signed up young soldiers got their training. Now it is still the army but now medical training. My friend Claire is permanently moored at Hopwas by the Tame Otter. Where will you be this coming week?
Hi Jean, I did try messaging on old threads on here as we passed your way a couple of weeks back now as we film a few weeks behind, actually I mention you in next week's vlog as we did hope to meet up with you but had no other means of contacting you. Next week we filmed huddlesford and got to see a fantastic sight of the sunken boat there being refloated, it was so fascinating to watch, you'll see it all in next week's. We are now on the Trent and Mersey now not far from Rugeley. 😀😃

Curious as to why you just painted over the damage rather than getting it inspected? does Paul pass a test before being able to boat or is he still learning as he goes? titanic waiting to happen it seems…
They are just scraps when you go into narrow locks, all or at least all the boats I have seen get scraps on that part of the boat. No need for inspection as above waterline. Its quite normal for patch up paints along the way. Paul actually has brilliant control of the boat I only wind him up and say things in jest about his ability 😀
What length of your Narrow Boat 60 FT it kind of looks about that

Instead of walking from front to back along the side of the boat, why not eliminate all risks and dangers by just walking "inside" the boat from front to back?
Hi there, we have a canopy attached to the front and that makes it difficult to be able to reach the chimney as its actually in the middle of boat, it's quite safe walking down the sides especially as we have the grab bar too 😀
