82. Narrowboat Living - Narrow Cuttings and High Embankments

- เผยแพร่เมื่อ 27 ก.ค. 2024
- With the sun finally out we leave the beautiful Church Eaton on the Shropshire Union Canal and head towards Norbury Junction, stopping at Gnosall for water along the way. We take our Narrowboat through some rather tight cuttings and travel through Cowley Tunnel. Shelmore Embankment, just before Norbury is very high and I explain a little about the flood gates used either end of it. We discover a baby owl and try and help an escaped lamb on our Norbury 5 boulder millennium walk. Don't miss the Iconic Bridge where we wrap the video up this week and say goodbye until next time.

Lovely vlog, so look forward to these every week. Well done for persevering with the ealk in that weather
Thanks Jackie. Glad you enjoyed 😊
*Good arvo (almost going into evening) Liz, Paul & Ernie 🙂 What an awesome video 🙂 from sheep wrangling to feeding cows. 🙂 All whilst out on a lovely hike thru the countryside, via meadows and seeing some fabulous homes along the way 🙂 plus sailing along some really narrow canals. 🙂 Hope you are all having an awesome week, without too much rain 🙂nz*
Hi Andrea. Well the man that commented about there being narrower part ahead of us wasn't wrong, wait until next week's one 😉 hope you are well 😊
@@uponreflection *Ohhhh so I have to be patient and wait another 7 days... I sure hope that the time flies by real fast 🙂 Yep I am well.. thanks. Finally got my new stove delivered yesterday. 🙂 Now comes the waiting until the shower unit arrives... then all the work can begin and also install the stove & everything else!!🙂.*
Tweet tweet too Liz .
What some good facts regarding owls. Loved it when Paul said suit- case packed passport packed.😂
Ernie looked like he had lots of fun.
The Shroppie looks like beautiful canal .
Have a fantastic week 🎉
Hi Deb, thought I'd best do a bit of googling about owls before I pretend I know what I'm talking about 🤣 the shropshite is a lovely canal so far. Ernies living his best life for sure 😍 Thanks so much for watching and commenting 😀
Hey Liz & Paul
Another fantastic video, cant beat the great British summertime eh 😉 hope you guys are keeping well
Jane & Martin.
Hi Jane and Martin, hope you're both well. If it's not rain, it's wind...bloody weather 🤣 thanks so much for watching 😄
Great adventure for the three of you guys i was just glad you found the gate to nowhere, That was along way to find a big rock and then to see it had already been found. Glad you enjoyed your trek and the best part was when you got back to the cut and knew the way to the boat so i can watch you next week. Stay safe and try to stay dry. Ed 40 S of Vegas
We were quite relieved to finally find the canal again after that walk 🤣 thank you so much for watching Ed 😊😉
Another lovely vlog you guys .....what a lovely kind pair you are.....nuts but thats the kind of ppl i like ....😂🤣😂🐶🐶
🤣🤣🤣 ha ha life would be dull without a few butters thrown in the mix 🤣 thanks Loraine, your comment made me smile 😊
Nots as fast as the Renault submarine Lobby, Big Kiss for Liz🥰
Hey you, how are you my little cherub ☺️😉 thank you so much for watching we love that you've seen a part of our life on our new adventures of boatlife 🥰
Hi guys, I love the "right to wonder" you guys have. Over here you're likely to, at worst, get shot and at best, told to bugger off (hope that is the right slang..lol) if you were to walk across someone's land. Thanks for another one. Take care.
Hi Roger, thank you for watching, it is fabulous the public right of ways that we have although some aren't kept well and are largely overgrown but it's fabulous to be able to walk and see the countryside.😀
We love your videos, I’m sure it’s not a 5 minute job editing a 38 minute video , great job both 👍
Thank you Neil we are glad you enjoy the videos. More like 16 hours plus to edit each one but keeps me busy 😉😊
Love you two.❤️❤️❤️
Argh thanks for watching and commenting 😊

Hi Dave, thank you so much for watching and glad you enjoyed our adventures this week. See you here next week 😉😊
Great to see the weather extremes amongst the rural farming background.
Great team.
Thank you Hugh. One minute sunshine, then storms..today sun and then rain then sun. You never know what you're going to get 🤣😊
Guys that was a brilliant video 👍, maybe Paul could take the camera out in the morning when he's fishing to show us his 'catch'.... The sheep was typically 'thick as' 😂.. Cheers Rob
Good idea Rob, except I don't think he catches much 🤣 I will suggest this to him though 😉 tell me about it. The gate was wide open and he scoots right on past it 🤣🤣 thanks for watching, hope to see you next week 😊
all the best you 2 your just having a wet fun .
No choice with our weather of late, if you go out, expect to get rained on 🤣😊 Thanks for watching Mike 😊
Good video. My dachshund that fell out of bed gave us the dirty look like we did it.
🤣 bless. I'm pretty sure Ernie would have been throwing those dirty looks our way too but my eyes were tightly squeezed shut to see 🤣😊
Great video guys thank you for sharing, really enjoyed watching. Take care and stay safe. ATB to you all.

I really enjoyed the video guys! I can't stand getting soaked. Cheers 😀 👍
Thanks for watching, it's not to bad if you have waterproofs on but you're right we didn't intend to get soaked through, we hoped it would stay dry for us but not with our weather of late 😉😊
Enjoyed as always watched your vlogs from the beginning now what a difference your boat is 👍
Thank you so much and thanks for continuing to watch us and join us still on our adventures 😊
Enjoyed the amusing walk you two brilliant Paul is so hilarious and of course you Liz and Ernie, even if you did end up drowned rats!❤
Thanks for watching Sandra, glad you enjoyed. We got soaked through on that walk and only actually saw 2 out of the 5 millenium boulders 🤣 Still no call from country file 🤔 🤣😊
Brilliant vlog 👍 As usual 😘
Thank you Jan, I've sent you the link to the Kettle on your other comment 😀

They were beautiful cottages weren't they. 😍
Thank you so much for sharing, We always look forward to them.
Not sure where you are at the moment, Im guessing the Middlewhich arm at Nantwich but im probably wrong and I'll just have to wait and see.
My wife and I did the four counties back in September leaving and finishing in Stone, it was a ten day holiday and we absolutely loved it ❤
Hi there Gary, not quite at nantwich yet, we will be turning onto to the Middlewich and heading for the Macclesfield but we got a few locks to tackle first and seem to be putting them off 🤣🤣
that was were i remember its bank went down hill with the water many moons ago
Evening Liz Paul & Ernie from myself & Earl, another great vlog 😊. You sure had a few eventful days while on your walks around Norbury, the talking horses belonged to the Romani gypsies who were camped at the top of the lane with their horse drawn caravans. I was talking to my elderly auntie a few months ago and she was telling me that her husband my uncle worked for the canals many years ago, and he was the one who placed the telegraph post at High bridge just a bit of useless facts for you lol 😂😂. I hope you are still enjoying the shroppy ? Stay safe cheers Simon
Hi Simon and of course Earl. Wow that's quite a thing that your uncle did there then, an iconic bridge on the shroppie and he was part of the placing of that very telegrapgh pole there. We saw the horse drawn wagons when we went back for the car and there were quite a few horses in addition to the two we saw, placed all along that road. Hope you are well, ymjeep your eyes peeled next week as your boat appears in the vlog 😉😊
We did the Millenium boulder trail with the grandchildren last year. Not easy to follow and longer than you expect though Poppy loved it. Shame it rained for you. X
Hi Sue, Clive and of course Poppy. We only actually saw 2 boulders in the end. Never manged to see all 5. Not sure where we went wrong there 🤭 hope you are all well. 😊
The second one was in Norbury village hall car park and we saw you walk past and miss the boulder in the video. Not sure about the others.
🤣 yes we'd already seen that one the day before 😊
Great vlog. Hope sheep’s got back in in the end. Such an idyllic life. Jealous ! Best wishes. ❤
Lovely to see you at Crick Trevor. Hope you enjoyed your time there. It's a beautiful life and one we don't take for granted. 😊😊
@@uponreflection yes was lovely to see you too. It was a great show. I’m hoping one day …….
🤞
@@uponreflection I’ve just bought one of those kettles on Amazon as I’ve just had solar installed. Brilliant idea. Thank u 🙏
@trevorsbarkingmadchannel4501 your welcome, it's a great little kettle to have 😃
They need to do some serious tree trimming down that canal, but great video as always.
It's getting worse as the weather is warming. There is so much overgrown that needs a good old trim. Thanks for watching 😊
danny la rue , hippy horse , one man and his dog , fly the nest owl , sunshine and rain storms . ernie falls out of bed and into love , gateway to nowhere , missed last couple of vids been a bit crook . glad to be back . thanks guys . be safe please . much thanks to you both . keep dry ....
Hi there, really missed your comments over the last 2 weeks, I love reading what you cone up with, you are so good at it. Hope you are feeling better now. 😊
@@uponreflection your to kind ..
The cuttings were Telford way of straightening and speeding up traffic. All the cuttings you’ve cruised through were used to build Shelmore embankment there’s a form house further on which used to get the morning sun not now Telford passsed through. Curtis of Pearsons 👍👍👍🖐️🖐️
There are quite a few of those cuttings you speak of on the shropshire aren't there. Thank you so much for the info, and for watching 😊
Love the vlog.
The only thing is, my husband keeping on impersonating Ernie.
Lol.
The Shropshire Union Canal is just gorgeous.
Not seen Paul baking any bread lately, has he given up?
See you all next week.x
Ha ha ha Jayne I can hear your husband doing that in my head now 🤣 no bread of late, to be honest we were eating so much bread wanted to give it a miss for a while, he is looking at new things to try though and wants to have a go at making pasties and pies next 😉😊
Another great vid……saw you moored at Norbury but you must have been out and about. I was there to have a browse and had a look at a boat called the Ladydog
Shame we missed you, we popped to see family if it was at the weekend, if not we were probably on that long soaking walk with Ernie 🤣😀
Liz, you need to take more water with it 🍹anti wobble liquid🤣
Ha ha ha either that or Paul needs to learn not to barge me out the way with the tiller 🤣🤣😊
@@uponreflection 🤣
Great vlog guys! I'm always amazed at how you Brits are allowed to wander through farmers properties unhindered, how is that possible? If I was to do that here in NZ I'd be met by an angry farmer and his well used shotgun😆
Hi John.
In England and Wales we are lucky to have over 140,000 miles of footpaths, bridleways and byways which make up our public rights of way network. These paths, tracks and trails are available for everyone to enjoy all year round and are used daily by the public for exercise, routine travel and to connect with nature.
I found this information on a website which I hope helps explain it a little bit further....
With the advent of motor cars and buses using the cart routes, these paths eventually turned into the country lanes and main roads we recognise today. Meanwhile, footpaths became less popular as a method of everyday travel.
But their importance was recognised by the rambling movements who represented groups of people who enjoyed walking in the countryside. Lobbying by the Ramblers led to the National Parks and Access to the Countryside Act 1949, which created, together with national parks, the “definitive map”. This is the legal record of public rights of way required to be kept and updated by each local highway authority. 😊
Xx
Thanks for watching Edward 😊

@rocka-cb7kk I've given Ernie a big hug and he says a special hello to Julie 😊
Wonderful video and so informative thanks Liz. I jave a question sorry for my ignorance. I just wondered why your video stops for so many ads as others I watch from other vloggers don't have this many? Thanks again for a great video
Hi there, not sure why there were so many ads in this one, I think it's because they are longer than they used to be so in our 20min ones there was about 3 but this was nearly 40mins long so there were a couple more. I must say, when we watched it tonight, we actually thought the same. I generally put an advert in every 8mins or so but then you tube sometimes adds one at the beginning and it feels like maybe a few more have been added in too that I didn't place in. Hopefully the next one won't have any extras put in it. 🤞😊 Actually I've just checked the ads and a few had been placed in so I have removed them, thank you so much for pointing it out 😊
Thank you for getting back to me Liz, I do appreciate it, always nice to learn new things. Great video though as always.
Liz,where are jou high heels??? 😂
I long neglected my much loved high heels 🤣😉 nowadays its muddy wellies and walking boots 😊
No it was a short eared owl
Yes that what I read up that it was apparently 😃

Hi David, of course..here's the link to the one we got from amazon. But I believe its out of stock so the second link is for another one just in a different colour. Hope that helps

Wednesday again wohoo!! lol You need tyres to keep you off the shroppie shelf and use a plank. The owl did a moonlight flit (years since I heard that expression lol ) Ernie was thinkin I'm glad we're not in Korea or i'd be dinner not the lambs haha! Told you your heading into god's country now the north :) I think I know where your heading You'll love it even more :)
You bottled it picking Ernie up Paul because he was wet! haha! As every Wednesday a great vlog and put a smile on people's faces :)
Hi Steve, we have been using go kart tyres and it seems to work a treat now, think we've just about mastered this shroppie shelf now 🤣
God's country (up north in tut sticks) is just stunning, I love it. Apparently Paul says he isn't lifting Ernie anymore as he's too old (Ernie's too old Apparently 🤣) hope you have a fab week and see you here again next week 😊
Another really enjoyable vlog, you never fail to deliver.
Thank you so much Jean and glad you enjoyed 😊
