    The Retractable screens were the signature of Audi interiors and everyone love them!

    Hi Thomas, I really like what a down-to-earth guy you are, despite driving all these super expensive cars all the time. With many of the reviewers from 'professional' auto magazines, you have the feeling that it is completely normal for everyone to change cars after 1 or 2 years of use or to immediately buy the newer model once available (of course, your own income is something different, but that is the case for these journalists, too). Saying something like "if you plan to own the car for 10 years or more, I'd consider ..." just proves that and shows you have not lost connection with the reality of many peoople (of course, many cars are leased by companies etc. now). Great! :)

    I'd definitely use a retractable display... it was one of the features I enjoyed the most in an Audi when going for a long drive - hide that distracting display & focus on the road with a beautiful and clean dashboard

    • @dragosrizescu1481

      It was also a sign of elegance && distinction Audi had - sad to see they are giving it away

    Really really nice, beautiful colour too. The design has lineage but it's been sharpened up like the A4/5. Interior is now class matching if not leading but it's disappointing that the screen doesn't retract, it may not have been retracted while the car was in use much but they certainly added to the premium feel when it rises from the dashboard, not to mention they can be thinner also adding to the premium feel.

    This new Q5 is definitely a step up from the old model, but of all the SUVs in the class I still like the F-Pace the most, it's rear wheel bias, more cargo/passenger room and it looks amazing.

    I like the retractive middle screen like the old A4 or new q7, one of the reasons are that in my country having a Tablet-like screen seems to atract criminal that want to break into the car.

    You hit the nail on the head when you mentioned the cost of replacing Air Suspension components - very expensive ordeal! Think many people forget about that kind of stuff.
    I had to limp home on a leaky strut once after blowing on a pothole & it was horrible exercise. Fortunately I replaced it myself & saved a bunch but being a Japanese car, 18 years on a single air strut was a good run. My mate had a Mercedes S which needed replacing after 5 years.

    About the infotainment screen that is not retractable. I drive an Audi A3 from 2013 that has the retractable infotainment screen. It's true I never hide it while I'm driving. However it is a smart and clean solution. I think it gives me a high class feeling when the screen flips up while putting on the ignition. I like that the screen is in a high position in the dashboard, I think it's better for driving security. The retractable screens look so much well integrated in the dashboards than the new ones in the Audi A4, A5, Q5... I think Audi makes a mistake getting rid of the retractable screens.
    I miss the exterior exhaust pipes in the new Q5... Why do they hide them?
    Again, thanks a lot Thomas for your wonderful reviews !

    I use the retractable function on my Audi A3. But that is mostly to make the rattle/squeaking noise from the screen go away, because it drives me mad! The quality of the screen is not 100% as we should expect from Audi. The whole construction should have been stiffer and more solid in my opinion. Maybe Audi should have used some more rubber around the motor/hinges to absorb vibrations. Because when my Audi went past 30 000 driven kilometers the screen started to make rattling/squeaking noises while driving over a speed bump, a little bit of rough road like bad asphalt, gravel or snow as we have a lot of here in Norway. And thats sad. But I love the function. It is a cool party trick! And I like that I have the possibility to play with it and that I can remove the screen while driving at night. To bad they are removing it.
    As always, a lovely and solid review! I like coming here to watch car reviews. :)

    *Cabin noise* seems really bad (very opposite to your feedback), not sure where the microphone was but that's *a lot of tire rolling/road noise*.
    *Direct steering*, well at +90km/h all cars require little steering wheel input (even the oldest ones without steering assistance), it's at low/very low speed that this become useful.

    • @autogefuehl
      @autogefuehl  7 ปีที่แล้ว

    As much as I like this Q5, I do expect a "better' price if I were to purchase this vehicle! I base this on the historical context. Audi charged a price based on cost to build plus a profit margin. If they think people are still going to pay the same price, that are going to be accused of "gouging" the customer from now on.

    Thomas, thank you for your review on the 2018 Q5. After looking at Jaguar F-Pace (much more expensive) and Cadillac XT5, I have decided to go with the Audi Q5 Progressive Package. Has everything I need in that trim package and being an Audi customer, and offered many incentives, and having test driven the vehicle today, this was the logical choice. Also drives so nice and handling great. Also, very quiet cabin and loaded with latest technology. Can't go wrong with this Sport SUV.

    • @autogefuehl
      @autogefuehl  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      thanks Stephen! Dont forget to go with fabric or alcantara seats

    • @smr32061
      @smr32061 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Seats came in Leather or Leatherette. I do not believe there were any other choices. In Canada, this vehicle comes in the 2.0 TFSI , 4 CYL., 252 HP, Quattro 7speed S tronic and the seats were okay. I thought Audi has announced they will.no longer manufacture Deisel vehicles. I did not ask at the dealership if there was 3.0 engine like in last year's model. I am excited and looking forward to getting my new Q5 in two weeks. Cheers!

    Thomas, thank you for all your nice reviews.
    I notice, every time you test virtual pedal in Audi/VW/Skoda, it doesn't work 100%.
    Could you please try to use your foot just front and back (like kicking) ONE TIME ONLY and then wait?
    instead of left and right swipe your foot a couple of times.
    Looking forward to your Skoda Kodiaq review and I hope you can demonstrate it correctly if there is a virtual pedal function in the car.

    I had the next gen SQ5 at the top of my options for 2017 / 2018 but now I am slightly confused I,e. Build location, all wheel / not all wheel drive!, fixed non retractable screen!.......I can't afford a similarly specked Porsche Cayenne and was really hoping the next gen SQ5 will suffice.

    Be aware if ordering this colour for your Q5. It has a more purple /blue hue than shows in this video. The video on the beach shows an electric blue hue probably through using a polariser filter on the camera lens which darkens blue sky and water. It also cuts down light from reflective surfaces. Check out the colour at your dealer first. On dull days the paint shows a purple hue. Check out the coulor of Tanzanite gem stones triple or quadruple grade and you will see a better idea of this Navarre Blue that is in the video

Sport models include (in addition to SE) 18 in five arm star design alloys, Multi media interface (MMI) navigation ( sd card), front sport seats in twin leather, LED interior lighting package and four way electric lumbar support. S line cars in addition to Sport include 19 inch five twin spoke star design alloys, LED headlights with LED rear lights with dynamic rear indicators, S line sport seats in leather/ Alcantara with S embossed logo, S line exterior and interior styling and privacy glass. As yet, no manual gearbox or two wheel drive options which were supposed to be offered. It seems the usual expensive options that Audi has will still be required for many buyers. No mention of electric front seats !! In a car of this price point ?? Oh dear. Will these specs be enough to take sales from BMW or Merc etc who fill their cars with stuff that Audi class as options ? We will wait and see. Delivery times are going to be longer too, as cars have to be exported from Mexico to Emden then imported into the UK dealers. I hope this info helps any UK potential buyers of this car

    Thanks for the exhaustive review. As the owner of a 2014 A4, I have a couple of quick questions:--- Where is the battery located in the new 2018 Q5? In the engine compartment or in the trunk, under the spare tire?--- Where is the windshield washer tank located. How accessible is it for those frequent winter fill-ups?

    Regarding the retractable display, I use mine all the time. I've had my A6 more than 2 years, and I still love the screen appeating when I start the engine.
    I'm considering a Q5 as my next car, but I'm sorry Audi cheaped out by eliminating this little bit of automotive theater.

      César Catalán BMW, Benz, Audi are all have plants in China about 10 years ago, and Volvo is acquired by Chinese company. Chinese car brands maybe not as good as those luxurious brands, but also exported to lots countries, does Mexico has its own car brands? We Chinese families can afford those luxurious cars, what about Mexican families? Maybe I have to remind you that China has surpassed USA to be the largest car market on the world in 2009, and where is Mexico?

      dr 70194 I was thinking the exact same thing, seems very odd because I've seen people carry bulky/long items in their suvs with the tailgate open, like a long piece of lumber. Looks like Audi is trying to get rid of that.

      @vtechead1 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      To G-- Hi Gordon - sent my reply before I was finished lol. Yes it is too expensive for a car that needs so many options added to bring it in line with other SUV's that are out there or coming in the next few months, and at a much lower price point. People are thinking twice before spending so much money these days and are looking for the best value for their money. This new Q5 does not provide this. They should have named it 'The Q5 Option'

    The YT Q5 video shows the display tablet mounted ON the dashboard. Yet on the Audi website when building the Q5 price the pictures (#3 & #4) show the display as part of the dashboard. I called Audi USA customer service they verified the Navigation display is inside part of the dashboard instrument panel not on top of the dashboard . Audi is sending me brochures on the Q5. I don't understand why your video shows a difference. Thanks a very nice intro of Q5 video.
