Still the most memorable Test debut in my lifetime was the one Brett Lee made here. I watched it happen live on TV and I became a superfan of his instantly. Can't believe this was 25 years ago now... where has the time gone? A fantastic Indian team we were up against too, and it's a testament to how extraordinary we were as a Test side that we swept this series. Hope everyone has a wonderful and safe festive season, wherever in the world you're from!
Gosh how were you guys so good! I'm glad we kind of started to show what we were capable of starting the next tour in 03/04. Still overall made for sad reading as an Indian fan growing up but looking back, these Australian players are all legends today so at least we weren't the only ones getting battered. 😅 Happy holidays and let's hope for a cracker of a boxing day test!
@@arvindhmani06 Second this comment. That generation of Aussie players were special. Every person was a legend in their role!! Hope this coming boxing day test will be an incredible battle between the sides!
Absolute gold of an upload! Those were the days when cricket peaked and a certain Sachin Ramesh Tendulkar was a one man army for India. This has to be one of his top 3 test hundreds considering the opposition, match situation and pitch. His battle of attrition against Glenn Mcgrath, in the early part of his innings, would have made this video even more special. I remember Ian Chappel comparing that battle to the battle between Lillee and Viv. Kudos to the channel for this!
When these clips give you a different level of happiness. The Brute Pace and Swing of Lee rattling every batsman but the grit of Sachin in how he played Lee here was the beginning of one of the greatest rivalries of the bat and bowl. Pure Class, Pure Cricket at its very best.
Brett Lee is definitely the G.O.A.T for me. That Bowling action with the Pace he generated and Swing was immaculate. He was the Best of Both Worlds. And one of the Best Guys off the field as well. A True Legend!
Whole of 90s and early 2000s cricket is watching Sachin carry the team singlehandedly on his strong shoulders and never once boasting about it and actually winning quite a few games!! What a chad!! And those who dare to compare Virat to him should watch these games to understand what Sachin was.
@1:22:15 Warne's ball to SRT in the 2nd innings to get him out was an incredible ball that started at a trajectory where it looked it it would pitch on off (hence SRT decides to leave), but it drifts in and SRT decides to shoulder as it might go down leg now, but it spins to straighten to get SRT plumb. Incredible ball and Warne did this so often. It's really hard to play a ball that changes direction 3 times.
Cricket doesn't have any individual battle like Tendulkar vs McGrath or Tendulkar vs Warne right now which is needed. Kohli vs Anderson was the last great battle which ended after Anderson's retirement.
It’s in that series where Lara hit a double century in the first innings and a century in second innings of a match and still SL won by 10 wickets, right?
Until the 90s it was only Sachin who used to carry the entire burden of the team on his shoulders!!Later Dravid and VVS and Sehwag and Ganguly started consistently performing and became the fab 5 of Indian batting
summary of that era for Indian cricket... Tendulkar vs the opponents... he was the lone fighter most times, & then people said he wasn't a match winner... well, cricket's a team game, one performer can't win you matches.
Thanks for uploading this. Looking back at this, one can see the amount of in-confidence that the Indian team had. Sachin alone could only do that much.
The first 8 minutes of this video is just peak Cricket royalty and a great nostalgia trip. Sachin's comment at 3:36 typified his woeful "leadership" at the time.
Sachin's best test hundred. Better than the 114 at the WACA and the 136 in Chennai in my opinion. Expected to see more highlights of that innings and more of Brett Lee as well tbh.
In last 6 years India hasn't lost a boxing day test match against Australia at Melbourne cricket ground. MCG is lucky venue for Indian team players.India team is favourite to win boxing day test match
It was a brilliant Aussie test team that consistently won home and away back then. This test win with Brett Lee’s debut was part of a 16 straight test winning sequence! Hard to believe 25 years have already passed since this 1999-2000 summer but Australia 🇦🇺 were basically perfect at that time with their results- with the Waugh bros, Ponting, Gilly, Warney, McGrath etc That Indian team was far from a poor team but we made them look quite ordinary when they toured Australia back then.
Hey, Umpire Shepherd gifted India the prize wicket of Glenn McGrath in the first innings with that dubious runout, so it evens out. But seriously getting all neutral umpires for all games was overdue by this era. The Kumble catch would probably still be given not out today though based on recent rulings.
When people take a dig at Sachin's captaincy it would always feel like a stupid talk for me.Seriously what is he going to do with players like that?Dravid and Laxman were newcomers and Ganguly was inconsistent in that time period. And the fast bowlers were literal nobodies(can't even touch 140kph consistently). Also the selectors had full authority over captain those days in Indian cricket unlike today(take this match for example.Sachin wanted Kambli in but the selectors ruled it out). One man was literally carrying the entire team and it's really idiotic to criticize his captaincy.Atleast Ganguly had Sachin and Dravid to build a team around them and Dhoni had best batters of the generation who were already legends in his team so that he could build and test youngsters around them in limited formats.

90's era Indian fast bowlers used to bowl at speeds in the late 120s to early 130s (kmph). At that pace, winning Test matches in Australia was impossible!
Sachin Tendulkar want Ajay Jadeja and vinod kambli in this test series but india chief selector didn't allow and india horrible batting display full series particularly Rahul Dravid and Ajit agarkar.

Brett Lee was my fav in 2003 world cup and I was nervous about him the most heading into final. Thanks, you too have a good holiday season!
For sachin batting and indian performance we 80s 90s kids sat in front of tv in early morning.. beautiful days ...

Seriously, this is the best cricketing channel on TH-cam after Robelinda. This is pure Cinema!
I’m 34 and I still remember this match watching with my Dad. Absolutely loved it. Aussies forever. ❤
Applaud by Gilchrist and shane warne after sachin century was so genuine that show the respect of Sachin tendulkar in world cricket.....

Test hundred of the highest order...my god what an innings..The way he lofted Warne with ease was a sight to behold.. SRT is the GOAT

That pitch report by Tony greig was so precised !! How often do we see so much detailed analysis about the pitch these days?
Honestly I wish we would see better analysis for Aussie pitches, really miss the channel nine days

Period where Tendulkar and Lara carried their team. Not long after remember WI touring SL where Lara got 600 runs and WI lost 0-3

Till 2003-04 Rahul Dravid’s test average was much greater than Sachin’s
Sachin was like 55,56 average
Dravid was like 57,58 average
Sachin of the 90s is like Bumrah of the current generation! One man army!
SRT scoring centuries and runs from one end,and wickets falling from another end that was the story of 90s 😢😢

He said "it's difficult for batsman to go on and off the field, because of conditions". What's in that statement?
This is called the real best vs best ☠️☠️.
This is awesome Boxing Day 1999 it’s Australia vs India at the MCG.
Mcgrath was so unbelievable with pace of 125-135 kph he posed all sorts of problem.
