Great review Mark 👏🏼 I think it would be awesome to use this on certain projects. I’m interested to know if you used it in the locked axis function to get the handheld look? Was it jittery 🤔
i'd love to try one. I'm also fairly convinced that the new dji Inspire series drone (if it ever comes) will incorporate the Z axis and use the same sensor. Otherwise, this mounted inverted on a M600 or something similar would do some amazing things.
The only thing now we need is NETFLIX to put this on their APPROVED cam list & EVERY serious film maker who’s ever wanted to get to streaming will do so. This TOOL is as they say a paradigm shift in the industry. It’s not a joke… it’s a DREAM come true for film makers who’ve been waiting for ONE ECO system. An all in one camera that does it all. 🎥💪🏼💪🏼🎥
Thanks Mark, I feel much better today I thought that I was the only one to lose 30 minutes trying to get stabilization in my gimbal... and not getting It...
You like to shoot handheld so that you get that organic feeling in the picture, even slight shakes are often intentional. Don't you think that the 4D creates a too ‘mechanical’ artificial image?
(Please dont hate on my comment. I love DJI products, have so many from Ronin M/MX Ronin 2, several different drones and more... I just want to be honest from what I found. Some are personal issues and not so much a problem) As a user of the Ronin4D... my thoughts (some personal thoughts, some not) its not matter of debate, we all use the camera for different reason. Just sharing. We understand its a new camera but honestly don't sell it unless its not ready. We understand bugs will happen and it wont be 100% but A LOT of things still need to be done. This is more of a problem/request list. We do know some updates are coming for Q3 but wont be holding our breath. I have found many issues with the system and for some reason these people are not sharing this information. -Adapt native iso values to the noise behavior -Delete individual clips in the camera -6k full frame 50/60fps incl lidar -Custom key commands -4k 100/120fps full frame without noise -Timelapse -Hyperlapse -Waypoints -higher frame rates without slow motion preview in the camera -customize buttons -being able to quickly change from full frame to super35 with a customize button so we dont need the menu -ability to punch in to check focus without having to change settings from focus peaking to punching it. Basically, you can keep focus peaking on and set a custom button to punch in to double check focus but also have the ability to turn off focus peaking dust. -Mark listed the issue with going into auto focus and manual, where it skips. It would be nice to have it just stay where focus is when turning it on or off. -Lens choice suck even with E mount. Let me explain.... lets say I need a wide interior car shot... I'll use the Sony 14mm 1.8 GM lens. Beautiful lens, works great but lets say I needed a 50mm GM lens... now I have to bolt a weight/balance on the back of the camera for a simple lens swap... rebalance, etc. I guess my point is... you have choices, yes but its not a simple as you hope to switch back and forth or run some higher end cinema glass. Very limited due to the cage size and weight. I really want to love the camera but it fights me ( and many others, go join the DJI Ronin4D groups on FB) every day. It is for sure a LOVE and HATE relationship because ideally this camera is a game changer for solo shooters.
Love your channel... stuff/gear is not 2nd place, not even 3rd. But when innovative gear changes the creative possibilities we have... that's worth talking about stuff.
I bought this camera a couple days ago. Very excited for it to arrive. I ride an electric unicycle and shoot photography at the same time. This will allow me to up my game into the video world without it being all jittery and hard to watch but still having that professional cinematic look I really want. Not just the insta360 footage that everyone has.
@@markshirley01 Yeah definitely, but I also think they offer so many great gimbal products for those who thread the line between prosumer and cinema. This kind of takes it past that line into cinema. Kind of like how they have prosumer and cinema capable drone products too!
I think it’s great for productions that are smaller and don’t quite warrant a true steadicam. That being said, I love the movi gimbal, you can buy one for $4,000 used. You can balance lots of common lens and camera combinations that directors and producers already love. That I’ve found to be a great middle ground. I would love to own one of these for travel, documentary, and event work in addition to the movi.
did you need to hold it over the road to get the vertical stabilisation? Or would it have worked holding it inside the car. I'm wondering if it will work on a boat for instance.
I've never personally had those issues with time consuming gimbal balancing, the RS2 I use has clear metrics along their arms so as long as you take note of where each individual lens and camera / filter combo sits ahead of time, there's no real reason why you should have to fight with it each time you set it up on set.
I would but I'm too busy assistant directing here in Newfoundland! The province is about to have its busiest year in film and television in its history, if you find yourself on the east coast hit me up! I'd love to shoot some video and know all the best spots.
@@markbone you liking it speaks volumes because I know how much you like hand held. I really like your take on the camera, one thing I commonly do is constantly switch from auto focus to manual and that little glitch could ruin a shot. Either way I love your enthusiasm, so now I just gotta get some work and justify this to my wife haha.
random question but why does it always seem when people use professional grade camera system that the footage looks dark...is it because people are used to iphone's oversaturated look? is it because of shooting in raw?
U can still use your Sony luts in davinchi, just change the colour space transform to slog 3 and sgamma cine 3. U can probably make a lut that changes the DJI log fotage to Sony slog 3 if U want
This camera is probably the best on the market. However I think they priced out of the mid professional filmmaker. They needed to start out somewhere in the middle.
Module 2 is a separate purchase. You will receive an email with the early bird discount for the first 48hrs on March 7th. Module 2 is an additional 50+ videos and 17+hrs of new content :)
Great video ,where can get some lut for my roni 4d ,l mean preview the videos recorded in the log with a lut to show a client,l was already trying with somthing but it was not working ,l think that maybe are not compatible
0:21 Gerald Undone? Yeah he would be proud of that sort of test seeing how he makes up all his tests, if you can call them tests. Good job on the feedback here. Looking forward to your next film.
I want a RS2 - but every person like you who says its easy to balance you get someone who says it a pain. So as potential purchase your kind of guessing if its going to work for you.
Can't you add your luts to this footage and just lower the intensity to like 30% ? or even over expose the footage first and then add the luts, seems like it was just a bit too dark and to punchy
Would you get a 4D? or rent it for certain projects?

£5,659 for the 6K version. If they could sell a 4K version for £3500 thats something I could afford and would buy. Thanks for the review Mark. 👍

Honestly for 6,000 dollars I find it worth it, maybe not for every shoot but it sure looks like a way simpler method to do gimbal work.
Can't see that yoke ever changing due to the whole system's balancing technology.
