      Any kind of "rating" or "ranking" in the world of art is pure BS. There isn't an objective way to measure art. There barely is a way to categorize music based on style, and we still argue whether certain songs belong "more to that style than the other".

      Thank you for your sweet comment. My sister was a personal friend of George's back in the 70's and worked, I believe for Apple Records. We were Beatlemaniacs and saw them in concert in 65!! When I see Dhani it is bittersweet- so sad that George passed away, and so grateful that his "twin-son" is continuing his Father's beautiful, spiritual legacy. That solo was Prince giving Rolling Stone Magazine the middle finger for not naming him in the top 100 guitar artists earlier that week. He came in without a rehearsal and killed it, tossed his guitar into the crowd and promptly walked off stage like a boss with zero F's given. That was Prince's guitar version of a grudge f***.

    • @bobbiejojackson9448
      @bobbiejojackson9448 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +8

      My issue is that Prince should have found a different time and place to show the magazine how he felt about the snub. This was a tribute to George Harrison and he should have kept his part in it, respectful. Everyone knows that he had quite an ego and he was definitely eccentric, but this crossed a line, IMO. Don't get me wrong... I've always liked Prince and I think he was an amazingly talented artist, but this little show of vengence and spite should not have been brought into a tribute to ANY other artist - not just Harrison. It left a sour taste in the mouths of many people, including a lot of lifelong Prince fans.

    There’s a huge back story to this performance, Tom Petty and Prince had a mutual respect for each other and Prince really wanted to do something with him, Prince was also snubbed by Rolling Stone in the “top 100 guitarist of all time” list and he had something to prove. Without going into detail the guitarist for ELO didn’t want Prince there but Tom has massive pull and said he absolutely will be.

      Harrison's widow didn't really want him there, Prince wasn't a personal friend. He didn't rehearse because it wasn't 100% certain that he was going to even be ON; notice how they kept him sidelined until the end? You can go back and forth on who was disrespecting who until the cows come home, but the point is, Prince _respected_ George, and he turned very tense behind-the-scenes into a moment to shine. Tom Petty was a consummate professional, improvising with just bits of the chorus when Prince kept going.

      Finally, I find someone who doesn’t bow to the altar of Prince. This was set up by his friends and peers, and Prince was neither . However, since Prince was being inducted into the Hall of Fame that same year, the producer of the show wanted him. There was tension during the rehearsals, but prince kept quiet. Dhani Harrison was strategically placed due to the tension with the other band members. Prince went rogue. A lot of the other members of the band weren’t happy. I did see a clip one time where Dhani was asked his thoughts on the solo and his response was “It was a bit too much”. Overtime and with the passing of Prince, Dhani has softened his thoughts on the subject.

      Also, JIC you're unaware, there's a 1978 flick called Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band starring Peter Frampton and The Bee Gees as the titular band with performances by Billy Preston, Aerosmith, Alice Cooper, and even Steve Martin and George Burns, all doing Beatles tunes. More recently there was a 2007 musical Across The Universe, just full of Beatles references and comprised of nothing but Beatles tunes performed by actors who can really sing.

    When Prince threw his guitar that was a metaphorical "mic drop"! He was so underappreciated as a guitarist, one of the best (IMO). The guy on the acoustic guitar to the right of Tom Petty was Dhani Harrison, George Harrison's son. Steve Winwood (from the bands Traffic and Blind Faith, also had a solo career with hits like Higher Love) was on the keyboard, Marc Mann (guitarist from ELO) played the other solos before Price joined in. According to lore, Prince's tech caught the guitar he threw and delivered it (per Prince's instructions) to Oprah. It is now interred in Prince’s Paisley Park (Prince's former home and studio), which is basically a tour destination for fans now.

Princes is quite a scratchy/screechy sound. I also don't get everyone's immense praise to him for this performance because if you break it down it wasn't anything particularly special or difficult for any good guitarist. Don't get me wrong it was a really good solo but almost all the comments are people going nuts for this when there are way better ones out there and the other guitarist (Marc Mann) was frankly just as good; they were just different. Sometimes the tone and beautifully placed notes are far superior to super fast technical solos (like from "Hard To Say I'm Sorry" or "From This Moment", short but beautiful).

    Most people don't notice that when the roadies push Prince back on stage after the backbend, his guitar actually cuts out. He handles it professionally and actually smiles at the sound guy, instead of freaking out like most musicians would.

    Prince wouldn't be seen playing with just anyone. The fact that he was up there with these fellows says a lot about what he thought of them. And the late George Harrison

    Prince is the best performer I have ever seen. And I've seen a lot of 'em, cuz i'm old. Prince is just hands-down the BEST.

    Dhani (on acoustic guitar) is the spitting image of his father. Steve Winwood (Higher Love) is on keyboard. This was a great performance!! Prince's guitar skills were always underrated...phenomenal! RIP George, Tom and Prince!

    Greatest thing about this performance is they’re obvious respect for each other and the smiles they exchange knowing they’re smashing it ❤❤❤
