I actually live across the street from Paisley Park and had run into him a few more times around our little town. An absolutely amazingly nice man and was so gracious to his fans. I, as so many people were, was devastated when he died. It was a stormy day when he died and just hours after he passed and dozens of mourners (myself included) gathered at the gates of Paisley Park a rainbow formed over the estate, it was magical. Google it. He was an incredible talant, incredible person. It still feels like some kind of cosmic mistake that he died.

Throughout his career Prince would show up with his band to a small local club and play another whole concert until the wee hours of the morning after his main concert ended at the large venue in whatever town he was playing. I got to witness one in the mid-90's at Metro in Chicago....20 bucks cash at the door....he came on at 1am and played covers and hits until 4am. He was music.

I was blessed to see him jam at Paisley Park many times. Watching him play any instrument he picked up and conduct the band was a sight to behold. I remember the very first time, walking to my car at 4:30am thinking what did i just see.

One of the things I like the most about this performance is that Prince got in front of one of the biggest crowds imaginable, the perfect place to show everyone how great his music was...and played other bands' songs. Half his set is cover tunes. He just wanted to put on the greatest show he could, playing the songs he wanted to play.

I’ve been a Prince FANATIC since he 1st came on the scene … so when he … left … it was and continues to be a giant hole in my heart! 😞 Seeing young folks like yourself discover his genius and enjoy his music helps a great deal. I've been privileged enough to see Prince live twice. I've been privileged to see A TON of incredible bands and artists in my life, but Prince's shows occupy the #1 and #2 spots in my list of best concert experiences ever. To call the man a virtuoso isn't enough. To call him legendary falls too short of him. If ever there were a pantheon of immortal rock gods, Prince would surely sit at the head of that hallowed table.
I saw him in concert 4 times...what an experience! I have been to many concerts and seen many artists but Prince was much better! Another level of musical genius!
Prince is music. That’s it. He was not just the best, but also the most loved by everyone. He was more royal than any actual royal family member. And the respect he gave back. From showing respect for other great acts by covering them during HIS halftime show even though he has enough hits of his own, and the end - bowing and showing gratitude to the crowd with such grace. He’s one of very few who actually lived and breathed music. Recorded enough songs to last another 100 years. That’s true dedication.

I saw Prince in concert in his purple rain tour when I was 13. It was mind blowing 🔥 He is 5"2 and his presence was giant. Best concert I have ever seen.
One thing I love is that his stage has his symbol on it. The symbol that he had to adopt when the corporate labels stole his name and identity and would not allow him to perform under his own name. Rather than just give up and roll over he said then I won't even use a name and I won't change my name I'll make my name a symbol they can't even be pronounced so no one can possibly call it anything other than a Prince album even if I can't use the name.

Throughout his career Prince would show up with his band to a small local club and play another whole concert until the wee hours of the morning after his main concert ended at the large venue in whatever town he was playing. I got to witness one in the mid-90's at Metro in Chicago....20 bucks cash at the door....he came on at 1am and played covers and hits until 4am. He was music.
He was meant to play that night. I haven't seen this in years. So much emotion, I'm crying 💜
The NFL did a behind the scenes You Tube video on this show that is worth checking out. They were so impressed with Prince and his willingness to just play. Totally unfazed by the rain. So glad you have found the Wonder that is Prince.
Prince was so amazing he did a cover set and it was THE BEST! With his amazing catalog, which would have been fantastic, he still did THIS. Blew that crowd’s mind.
It was some covers and some of his stuff. "Let's Go Crazy", "Baby, I'm A Star", and "Purple Rain" are his.
In all honesty I think he chose these songs to show off just how good he was on the guitar. This man had the hugest chip on his shoulder when Rolling Stone left him off the best 100 guitarist of all time in 2004.
@@mistylynn7425 well, he has plenty of his own songs that allow him to rock-out on guitar though, but he knew that his songs were revered by some but not by most, so he was probably hoping to entertain even those who didn't normally listen to his music. Maybe even change some minds and give his music a chance. I think he succeeded there.

This is without question the Greatest Super Bowl Show Ever. Prince was told before going on stage that it was raining he said " Can you make it rain HARDER" Prince didn't do just his own songs which is outstanding. This was a LEGEND AND TRUE TALENTED PROFESSIONAL!!! Also a world class Guitarist. It is raining heavy yet it looks like the rain is missing Prince. This is an immortal performance!!! And yes a fan got his guitar.
I was blessed to see him jam at Paisley Park many times. Watching him play any instrument he picked up and conduct the band was a sight to behold. I remember the very first time, walking to my car at 4:30am thinking what did i just see.
After that no one should ever have done a half time show ...how do you even compare to this masterpiece. Best solo song ever performed.
Let’s not forget that he is doing everything in this performance, all of this greatness, in heels in the rain on a wet stage!!! He is superhuman, IMO!!!
When God was passing out talent i think Prince managed to sneak back in that line.

There was a great article written about this halftime show, the producers would concerned about the rain and all the electronics, of course. They asked Prince if he had any requests and he said, "make it rain harder." Legend.
He asked, “Can you make it rain harder”. It was a question, not a demand. Get your facts straight.

One of the things I like the most about this performance is that Prince got in front of one of the biggest crowds imaginable, the perfect place to show everyone how great his music was...and played other bands' songs. Half his set is cover tunes. He just wanted to put on the greatest show he could, playing the songs he wanted to play.
So …. I’ve been a Prince FANATIC since he 1st came on the scene … so when he … left … it was and continues to be a giant hole in my heart! 😞
Seeing young folks like yourself discover his genius and enjoy his music helps a great deal.
It makes me feel he’s spirit is still here … through his music!

I've been privileged enough to see Prince live twice. I've been privileged to see A TON of incredible bands and artists in my life, but Prince's shows occupy the #1 and #2 spots in my list of best concert experiences ever. To call the man a virtuoso isn't enough. To call him legendary falls too short of him. If ever there were a pantheon of immortal rock gods, Prince would surely sit at the head of that hallowed table.
I saw him in concert 4 times...what an experience! I have been to many concerts and seen many artists but Prince was much better! Another level of musical genius!
Prince is music. That’s it. He was not just the best, but also the most loved by everyone. He was more royal than any actual royal family member. And the respect he gave back. From showing respect for other great acts by covering them during HIS halftime show even though he has enough hits of his own, and the end - bowing and showing gratitude to the crowd with such grace.
He’s one of very few who actually lived and breathed music.
Recorded enough songs to last another 100 years. That’s true dedication.
Just pure talent on stage. That is greatness. No gimmicks needed
Yes. The best Super Bowl performance EVER!!!! There is also an interview before the Super Bowl where Prince played 3 songs in a press conference that he didn't play at the Super Bowl

One of the Greatest, most humble musicians in the history of this world. The man connected with his audience like no one Ive ever seen. Purple Rain Live is absolutely magical. Listening to the audience finish Purple Rain for him was epic!!

I remember shedding a tear when he started singing Purple Rain and the symbol lit up purple.
This might be the best performance I've ever seen. The perfect combination of stage presence and technical ability. Prince put his heart and soul into this performance and he makes it look so effortless. RIP Prince

Walking around in the rain with 6" heels. I will always remember this as the day there was a football game played during a Prince concert. Prince playing like he ordered up the rain.
Seeing him in concert in Minneapolis was the best concert I have attended. We are proud here in Minnesota- and honored he keep his home here throughout his lifetime.

Except his home isn't in your city. It's in a suburb OUTSIDE your city. And $125 a person to see 4 rooms and his secondary recording studio is a ripoff.
The ending song Purple Rain IN the rain was EPIC... It was really hard not to cry.. when the crowd was singing along.. MAGIC, MOVING, RAW and real... He gave his heart and love to that stadium that night... Best show ever!!!

I will never forget watching this live. There will never be another one like him.
Quite simply, Prince was the most gifted musician to ever stand in shoe leather probably since the days of Mozart. I was lucky enough to see him in London 2007, mind boggling.
I'm a rock/metal guy, but YES, that is the greatest halftime performance EVER.
If you're gonna be doing a deep dive into Prince, I'm here for ya.... Any of his Montreux Jazz Festival performances is stellar. He was at the peak of his guitar playing powers during those times imho.
There's no question this was the best Super Bowl half time performance ever. Almost nobody remembers the teams who played. Everybody remembers Prince.

nothing has nor can anything come close to capturing what Prince gave us that night. Some bands leave it all on the stage, Prince built the stage, performed on the stage and dismantled it at the end of the ngiht. No other performance can ever come close to the magic that was this show!!

I was lucky enough to see Prince live many times. My first concert my mother drove us in a blizzard 2 feet of snow. Was so worth it.

He gave everything to his music.
His decades of performing in heels had badly damaged his hips, which meant he needed alot of pain killers to keep going.
Tragically they took him from us.

The event producer said that about a minute before the show was set to start, he called Prince on the walkie talkie and lets Price know that the sky had really opened up, and it was raining for real. Prince's reply: "Can you make it rain harder?" Dude just took the rain and made it part of the legend.
Love how he included EVERYONE ! Prince was a spectacular guitarist, singer, humanitarian, all round musician, he could do it all. He also started many young artists on their way.

For in the vaults were over 8,000. unreleased songs which T.C. said atleast 1-2 albums 4 over 100yrs. AWESOME !!! Note: PRINCE was only with the Revolution till 86. Then the NPG till like 2013. Then Third 👁 Girl (great R&R). Next: solo, Piano & A Mic. Soo great and genius, SOLO !!! Unfortunate circumstances at a early age taught him "to do 4 self" he states in interviews. Talk about having the audience in the palm of your hand!! The atmosphere was so electric I got goosebumps when I saw it live, And every time I've watched it since! And to top it all off, when God heard Prince would be doing this song at the Superbowl~ He made it rain 💜
He was playing an electric guitar and the girls are in like 4” heels on glass in the pouring rain. Not one girl fell down. He’s singing in every genre of music just to show he can. The man is a legend.
This performance was for Every generation. He could've done all of his own songs but he chose to please the audience. He IS the best, and will always be the most talented human to ever live.

I saw Prince in concert in his purple rain tour when I was 13. It was mind blowing 🔥 He is 5"2 and his presence was giant. Best concert I have ever seen.
One thing I love is that his stage has his symbol on it. The symbol that he had to adopt when the corporate labels stole his name and identity and would not allow him to perform under his own name. Rather than just give up and roll over he said then I won't even use a name and I won't change my name I'll make my name a symbol they can't even be pronounced so no one can possibly call it anything other than a Prince album even if I can't use the name.
There will never be another Prince. He had it all. He could put the crowd in his hands and make them do anything he wanted. He approached Billy Gibbons from ZZ Top to show him some different licks on the guitar

The night of the Super Bowl when it rained, the producers were concerned with execution on the steel mat. Prince and the Twins being hurt, or the Twins slipping on their 6-inch heels while dancing so they called Prince and said, Hey man, it's raining. What do you want to do?
