That's why I don't like this version of the edit. In this one you can see the guitar go into the audience. In the original, the guitar landing is out of frame, so it looks like Prince tosses it up and it never comes down. Obviously not true, but it adds to the magic.
This group of older rockers recognized Prince as the guitar genius he was. I love how he looks at Dhani Harrison and smiles as he plays. Plus, the toss of the guitar and strut off stage was true Prince. And that was a strut. One of the best guitar solos ever.
It's good that you guys reacted to this. Make no mistake, I have Prince in my top 5 guitarists of all time…… And what really blows your mind is he could do that very same thing on every instrument. RIP
This only reminds everyone the absolutely colossal loss when Prince passed. Not only can he jam with the absolute best, his showmanship put him in a league of his own. As a metalhead myself, I have mad respect for that guy.
At this time the top 100 guitarist was released and Prince wasn't on the list. So in this performance not only was it a tribute to George Harrison it was also Princes way to point the middle finger at the industry and he did it so well.

Everyone on that stage was watching each other and working together. They rehearsed. The other guys were like “Go off Prince!”💜
The reason Prince went sooooo freaking hard(I loved it) was because Rolling Stone magazine released a top guitarist list and Prince saw that he wasn’t listed amongst his peers. I loved that Prince even looked over to Tom Petty to see if he wanted him to chill and Tom Petty let him cook!
Prince was an anazing multi-instrumentalist and his gutar work was simply a part of his repertoire. He played nearly every instrument on most of his recordings and to have that ability, as well as be lyricist and composer, is beyond incredible. May he Rest In Peace.
That was so cool when Prince threw his guitar in the air and right to the roadie by the stax , and without seeing exactly where he was. A perfect throw, it landed right into that guy's hands.
Tom wasn’t trying to wrap it up. They were all looking at each other enjoying themselves. Tom and Jeff kept singing “look at you all” through the end because that’s how the song was written. They were definitely all on the same page.
I think there is an interview with Prince about this performance. The solo was planned, obviously, but Prince was feeling it and the rest of the guys let him roll with it. George was my favorite Beatle. You should check out his solo stuff. 💜
Tom Petty gave him the green light. The acknowledgement between them was unreal. One of the best solos in history. I wonder what happen to the guitar that he threw into the audience. Amazing.

This video is special to me because I am a Prince fan and George Harrison & Beatles fan. I grew up with the Beatles. I became an adult when Prince came on the scene.. This performance was a tribute to George Harrison, who wrote this song,, at his induction into the Rock and roll Hall of fame. What I would give to have been in that audience!! This song was one of his biggest hits and huge for the Beatles Seeing his son there, standing in his place, looking like he was a fan rather than a musician, made it that much more special.
Prince taught himself how to play piano, guitar, and drums. He became a multi-instrumentalist at a very young age and played nearly all the instruments on his
This is true, but he did watch his father play the piano before he started, but his father didn't teach him. The very first song Prince played on his father's piano was not "Mary Had A Little Lamb." It was the Adam West 60's Batman tv show theme song.
Prince and Tom Petty were friends. Great friends! They both wrote songs with Stevie Nicks! They both considered her their little sister! Prince helped her write stand back. Prince actually helped a lot of people write songs and wrote songs for other people. He was a badass! I'm really glad you covered this. I had mentioned it in one of your old videos. Definitely watched the halftime show. They were scared he wouldn't perform in the rain. When they called him he actually said can you make it rain harder??!!
Sir Eric Clapton, one of The Greatest Guitarists ever, was asked how it feels to be the best guitarist in the world. His answer: "Ask Prince". I like such an honest answer...
No. Where this obviously comes from is the old story, which is sort of a bastardization of an incident that actually happened, but the old story was that someone asked Jimi Hendrix what it was like to be the greatest guitarist in the world, and he said "Ask Terry Kath." Someone obviously just changed the names again as this rumor oftentimes gets repeated with different names, but Hendrix and Kath are where this originally comes from. Cheers!
I'm giggling uncontrollably as i watched this. I'll never be able to see this performance for the first time ever again. Watching someone else watching it for the first time is the closest thing. Watching him see the wonder was so fun!

Prince's Super Bowl Halftime show has yet to be topped to this day. Check that out. You will be better for it. He was an amazing artist and will forever be missed.
This song was written by George Harrison - and this performance was a tribute to the late Beatle. George's son, Dhani Harrison (at the time in his early twenties, playing his guitar next to the late Tom Petty - and looking so much like his late father, when he was the same age...) was promised (by Prince...) that he'd make him smile and laugh before the evening was over. True to form, Prince not only succeeded in his mission to brighten young Dhani's mood - he gave us all an unforgettable (and unrehearsed...) guitar solo! The Artist (formerly known as Prince...) will forever be in a league all his own - and a National Treasure, whose voice went forever quiet way too soon...💜

I'm sure I'm not the first to give all the background info on this, but it's definitely worth spelling out here: 1) While My Guitar Gently Weeps was written by George Harrison, mourning the breakup of the Beatles at the end of their time together as a band, and is considered one of George's best songs from his time as a Beatle. 2) This performance was at the Rock & Roll HOF, for George's posthumous induction. 2a) Inducted artists are given a 2-3 song set to showcase why they're being inducted, but George had passed from cancer a few years prior, so instead they organized a tribute performance for George's spot. 3) Just a side note here, but Dhani Harrison is George's son. 4) Prince was a good friend of George Harrison, 5) Prince had just been snubbed by Rolling Stone's "Top Guitarists" list that year, and had an axe to grind. 6) Prince agreed to be part of the tribute concert, said he'd take the closing solo, and told the organizers "y'all rehearse without me, I got this." 7) Magic happened.
Just to add to that, Prince was being inducted into the Rock & Roll HOF that year too (2004). He didn't just happen to be there. I've never heard he was a friend of George Harrison.
I saw an interview with musicians that jammed with Prince and they arguing about the instrument he plays the best and it wasn't guitar. A few said piano and others said drums. Hmm
This was the performance that I realized how great a guitarist Prince was! He wiped the stage with the other musicians. But more importantly, Dhani Harrison, the son of George Harrison, was so into the musicianship on that stage, and brought that song to a universal level! The best!!
The solo outro by Prince is a monster. One of the tastiest ever by any guitarist, and the guy is not known really as a guitar player (or so people thought) but he can play. Even though it looks like an impromptu jam session but you can tell that he has already decided the mode he was going to be playing in.

Dani Harrison is the son of The Beatles George Harrison, who wrote this song. It was a tribute to his father!
Fun fact, the greatest Super Bowl Half-Time show of all time is widely considered to be Prince.
Agreed!!!
Yup. During a Tropical Storm no less.
That was EPIC!
Purple Rain in the rain is the single greatest performance ever at the Super Bowl PERIOD!!!!
It’s the best one I’ve ever seen
This performance gives me chills. every time!! I don't think the younger generation realizes the treasure that was lost on this stage alone.
Yes, indeed!
Most of the current gen will never see this performance and many others from truly great musicians. When I was a teacher I asked a class if they liked The Doors. music Never heard of them.
If you leave with a mic drop you are cool. If you leave with a guitar toss you are a true bad ass.
That's why I don't like this version of the edit. In this one you can see the guitar go into the audience. In the original, the guitar landing is out of frame, so it looks like Prince tosses it up and it never comes down. Obviously not true, but it adds to the magic.
THAT WAS EXACTLY WHAT I SAID AS SOON AS PRINCE WALKED OFF‼️💜❣️
And FU to Rolling Stone!
Prince, Jimi, EVH SRV Jeff Beck in no particular order
If it was a Rolling Stone list, no one cares. They’re horrible and haven’t known anything about music in decades.
Rolling Stone will never live that down!!! They totally delegitimized themselves with that excusion.
Dude, can’t tell you how much I enjoyed watching you with your eyes wide and your mouth hanging open💜 But trust, Prince was not looking at Tom to get him to stop singing. That’s how the song goes. Everyone on that stage was watching each other and working together. They rehearsed. The other guys were like “Go off Prince!”💜
People often forget, Prince was one hell of a guitar player. One of the greats!
Prince was a musical genius, that played many instruments and ALL self taught!
Prince was a maestro. I get goosebumps every time with this rendition. I love how he yeeted that guitar and rolled out at the end.
A fantastic tribute to George Harrison.
Prince was an anazing multi-instrumentalist and his gutar work was simply a part of his repertoire. He played nearly every instrument on most of his recordings and to have that ability, as well as be lyricist and composer, is beyond incredible. May he Rest In Peace.
I saw Prince way back in 1989 when he first came to Scotland, I was only 17, and I will remember that day, until my last day! What a legend!
That was so cool when Prince threw his guitar in the air and right to the roadie by the stax , and without seeing exactly where he was. A perfect throw, it landed right into that guy's hands.
I get chills every time I see this. A masterpiece
Tom wasn’t trying to wrap it up. They were all looking at each other enjoying themselves. Tom and Jeff kept singing “look at you all” through the end because that’s how the song was written. They were definitely all on the same page.
Also, prince didn't show for rehearsal, and they wondered if he was going to be prepared. Price was saying, do I look like I need practice?
I think there is an interview with Prince about this performance. The solo was planned, obviously, but Prince was feeling it and the rest of the guys let him roll with it.
George was my favorite Beatle. You should check out his solo stuff. 💜
The solo was planed by Prince, but he never told any one. That's the confusion when he kept playing. He didn't go to the rehearsal, they had no idea.
Tom Petty gave him the green light. The acknowledgement between them was unreal. One of the best solos in history. I wonder what happen to the guitar that he threw into the audience. Amazing.
The stage cues, the complete trust in each other, Prince was asked to come out and extend the set, stunning all around.
I have watched this video dozens of times. They are all GREAT, but I
Love Prince. Gone WAY too soon.
Tom Petty was egging him on! Tom knew a moment was happening.
I'm so privileged to have seen PRINCE in concert TWICE! In the round in 1984 and during his residency in Las Vegas. I wore my Purple Rain concert tshirt in LV and he did a double take when walking by! 😊
Prince is one of the most underrated guitarists of all time. Has the soul, has the chops. Just an all around beast
Had.
I’m so glad to see reactors watch Prince. He was so great and gone way too soon!
Prince was an under rated guitarist.
Bu whom?
@@edvinlaine basically by non-fans, especially metalheads and those born in the last 30 years.
In the history of guitarists, many names stand out; Less Paul, Chet Atkins, Roy Clark, Steve Vai, EVH, SRV.
Names that stand out as legendary in the guitar world.
Prince was very good, but let his lead guitarist have their place in the band.
@@jhorton1600 no one in Prince's bands, or in this one, never was better than him. You forgot one detail those you mentioned (and Hendrix, Santana, West Montgomery, Satriani, Metheny...) are famous for doing ONE style. Prince played a lot of genres and very competently.
And he can also play piano, bass, drums, sing, compose and manage in a recording studio.
I own records of all of them and I watched some of them live. How many times did you watch Prince playing guitar? I mean live, not promotional videos for songs.
th-cam.com/video/LNrAFb3I2js/w-d-xo.html
@@oskarobit Never said they were better than him, said he let them shine.
One of his greatest attributes is his promoting other artists.
Morris Day and the Time, Apollonia 6. As well as all of the songs he wrote for other artists.
Prince was so awesome there aren't even words the whole band is smoking Love the reaction Brothers 🙂
A stage full of next level musicians.
Yes! This is magnificent especially Prince shredding! 🎸 He is a Master on the guitar and he plays practically every musical instrument!❤
Tom Petty along with the rest of the players there knew Prince was a wonderful guitarist. Prince can play every instrument on stage. This was also when Prince was being inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.❤
When Prince passed, i went to Purple Rain in the movie theater in NYC by myself. I ❤❤❤❤❤ Prince.
Prince was MESMERIZING
This video is special to me because I am a Prince fan and George Harrison & Beatles fan. I grew up with the Beatles. I became an adult when Prince came on the scene..
This performance was a tribute to George Harrison, who wrote this song,, at his induction into the Rock and roll Hall of fame.
What I would give to have been in that audience!! This song was one of his biggest hits and huge for the Beatles
Seeing his son there, standing in his place, looking like he was a fan rather than a musician, made it that much more special.
I’m so happy THIS happened! Music GOLD
Prince made an already amazing performance into a legendary one.
If you can get a hold of the Super Bowl half time show that Prince did in Miami in the pouring rain, legendary ❤❤❤.
It is well worth a reaction.
This performance by Prince really shows why he was such a musical freak genious! He played bass, claviature with the same ease it seemed like magic!!
Imagine the jam sessions going on in heaven with these two guys!
Sir Eric Clapton, one of The Greatest Guitarists ever, was asked how it feels to be the best guitarist in the world. His answer: "Ask Prince". I like such an honest answer...
No he never but Eric Clapton did say on the BBC Desert Island Discs in 1989 that he thought Prince was a genius
Cheers!
you should have him watch the Super Bowl half time show of Prince. The best haft time performance ever!!
I'm giggling uncontrollably as i watched this. I'll never be able to see this performance for the first time ever again. Watching someone else watching it for the first time is the closest thing. Watching him see the wonder was so fun!
Prince was showing rolling stone magazine that he should've been in the top 100 guitarist list, which Prince was omitted.
I discovered this several years ago. I never knew how great Prince played. He is up there with the best of them. I looked at his material after this. Not mainstream! Blues and funky rock... He is bad ass!!! I love this performance.
Prince Superbowl performance is the greatest
The look on your faces with this reaction… priceless!!! That’s how I felt when I discover this. BRAVO!!
Talented line up with a musical genius. I love the look on George's son face before prince plays.
I love the look he gives at about @9:04. Like, "Oh, you like that? Hang on".
Please check out Prince's Super Bowl halftime show, it's the best halftime show by far. He does multiple songs including a kickass Purple Rain and a couple covers too that are amazing
This is one of my favorite performances of Prince. And yes, he looked good!
Prince's Super Bowl Halftime show has yet to be topped to this day. Check that out. You will be better for it. He was an amazing artist and will forever be missed.
He had the best reaction I’ve ever saw and I’ve saw them all 😂😂😂😂
Prince took over every stage he ever stood on. That is the definition of a Rock Star!
Prince did this cause he was pissed that he was left off the list of The 100 Greatest Guitarists!!! He showed them!!🎶🎼🎵🎸🎸🎸🎸🔥🤘
He also inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame that night.
PRINCE should've been at the top of that list!
@@shannontrough2680 Rolling Stone magazine was crazy to leave him off and other lists have definitely included him.
I heard that after this performance, on the next list he was listed in the mid thirties of greatest guitarists......it worked! I think that it's one of, if not the greatest guitar solos of all time
@@rubroken Rolling Stone said he was in the original edits of their Top 100 list but during the editing process his name was accidentally cut out. Whether this is true or not is not really known to anyone except the editor who made the mistake.
PRINCE!!!!!.......nuff said! PRINCE IS FIRE!!!! PEACEOUT GUYS.... HUGZZZZ
Love this!! When Prince played that guitar it was magical. R.I.P. Prince
Prince made LOVE to his guitars. Pure ecstasy~ and he couldn't stop until he was satisfied
Prince is the musical GOAT!!! It was a sad day when he passed wayyy too early!!
Such an iconic song and performance. This os one of my favorite Beatles songs, actually one of my all-time favorite songs. Never gets old. Legends they will always be. ❤
great tribute for George rip
Two of the world's great guitarist honoring two of the best lyricists of all time.
Prince, greatest performer of all time.
This is such a magical moment in time! So much talent!
Nice reaction, I'm sure someone has already mentioned there was no rehearsal for Prince, He just agreed to play that evening, since he was already there, why not. So no one really knew whet he was going to do. Prince is one of the GOATS of the guitar. imo
Prince was and still is known for his musical instrument talents and ability to play all the recorded tracks on his albums. Prince also did "after jam sessions" after his Las Vegas concerts/shows, Which I was lucky enough to attend. phenomenal treat for the ears.
This was how Prince said eff you to Rolling Stone magazine for leaving him off of their list "100 Greatest Guitarists"!
I saw it and Prince blew the roof of the sucker. Prince was just waiting for his time. The Master!!!
Watch Prince’s performance at the Super Bowl! It’s epic!
Prince is still ONE OF A KIND beyond amazing
I'm sure I'm not the first to give all the background info on this, but it's definitely worth spelling out here:
1) While My Guitar Gently Weeps was written by George Harrison, mourning the breakup of the Beatles at the end of their time together as a band, and is considered one of George's best songs from his time as a Beatle.
4) Prince was a good friend of George Harrison,
5) Prince had just been snubbed by Rolling Stone's "Top Guitarists" list that year, and had an axe to grind.
6) Prince agreed to be part of the tribute concert, said he'd take the closing solo, and told the organizers "y'all rehearse without me, I got this."
7) Magic happened.
Just to add to that, Prince was being inducted into the Rock & Roll HOF that year too (2004). He didn't just happen to be there. I've never heard he was a friend of George Harrison.
Absolutely epic.
I saw an interview with musicians that jammed with Prince and they arguing about the instrument he plays the best and it wasn't guitar. A few said piano and others said drums. Hmm
They all loved this!! They weren’t expecting it.
If I’m not mistaken Prince never had a chance to rehearse with the other players because of his busy schedule, amazing 🤩
He was there at rehearsal, he was supposed to do both solos, but gave away the first one... good story, worth the time to look it up.
He had a chance. His reply was something along the lines of "don't worry about it."
This was the performance that I realized how great a guitarist Prince was! He wiped the stage with the other musicians. But more importantly, Dhani Harrison, the son of George Harrison, was so into the musicianship on that stage, and brought that song to a universal level! The best!!
Prince is the greatest performer to ever do it - say something else
The solo outro by Prince is a monster. One of the tastiest ever by any guitarist, and the guy is not known really as a guitar player (or so people thought) but he can play. Even though it looks like an impromptu jam session but you can tell that he has already decided the mode he was going to be playing in.
You really should react to Princes Superbowl Halftime Show. He......PLAYED IN THE RAIN....and wouldn't stop the show even when asked to.
This is truley the best music video. Over the years i have watched it many many times and gets better each time. I love Danni's face, he is soooo happy.❤
