One completely underrated part of Prince's performance is that he continuously checks in with Petty to make sure he isn't going to overwhelm the vocals. The solos take off, but he never once steps on Tom's singing. Amazing.

@@TheAlmaward I saw a short video somewhere where the young Mr Harrison said he thought prince did over indulge and made it too much about himself. He then of course said it was a great solo. Sounds like he thought prince went too far and denigrated the song and reason for it. I thought it was the best solo live, of all time or right there. Peace world. Just food for thought btw. ✌️

The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony usually has a performer inducting another performer(s) with a speech, the inductee(s) giving a speech, and then the inductee(s) performing two or three of their most iconic songs. One of my favorite inductees at a ceremony was when RUSH was finally inducted in 2013...the induction was by Dave Grohl and the late Taylor Hawkins of Foo Fighters, who then ducked out and changed to perform with RUSH the song "2112: Overture". You should check it out eventually!
Jeff Lynne is the frontman, singer, and musical motor behind Electric Light Orchestra...he was the one in sunglasses.
Steve Winwood is one of the greatest keyboard players in rock as well as an amazing singer himself he was directly behind Jeff Lynne on the organ.
Prince is severely underestimated as a guitarist since he played many different instruments so well. As a musician, he was almost godlike with his talents since he did everything so seemingly effortlessly. This is hands down one of my favorite Prince moments ever. Every time I see it, I am stunned.

I’ve watched quite a few reaction videos to this performance, but yours is by far the most rewarding! To see the awe on your face as you hear first Petty’s voice, then Jeff Lynne’s, followed by your amazement at Prince’s solo is really a joy to watch as I think I probably had all the same reactions the first time I saw this video. It’s truly outstanding! One thing that I noticed after watching it so many times was how Prince, after he leaned back and then was pushed back up by a crew member, looked at Tom Petty and then dipped his guitar down toward the floor as if to say “ya gotta pour it all out on the stage”, and did he ever! This ranks as one of my top guitar solos of all time. Prince absolutely nailed it!

The reason Prince asked to be part of this performance was because he was pissed off that he was left off of a list of greatest guitarists of all time. I think Rolling Stone magazine did the list. No one knew he was going to break out like that. When he threw the guitar up and strutted off stage was his F you to whoever made the list. Prince asked?? If he did, which Im skeptical, It would be to honor Harrison, not for the purpose of rubbing it in Rolling Stones magazine's face. After all, he's been doing amazing things on the guitar since the 70s

Rock and Roll Hall of Fame!!! We just got SERVED a master class by Prince!!! All of the other performers rehearsed this several times but Prince couldn't be there~ when they expressed concern over it to Prince, he report ably said he was fine, don't worry about it. Clearly, they need not have. And thank you for watching it through without pausing!!! 💜

Prince is a genius, a gift, a badass, a legend. And he displayed all that and more during this performance. He revered The Beatles and his respect and adoration showed here, in spades.

Prince is in the top 20 best guitarists of all time. He might even be in the top 10. Phenomenal performance! You can see how excited George Harrison’s son Dhani (next to Tom Petty) was when Prince came in. What a masterful tribute to the great George Harrison!!! Wow
You really should play the original by George Harrison. He has to be my favorite Beatle. And check out The Beatles!!

If you love this sound may I suggest the "Super Group"...the Traveling Wilburys. The group was a passion project of George Harrison and consisted of Harrison, Tom Petty, Jeff Lynne (Electric Light Orchestra - ELO), Bob Dylan and the Great Roy Orbison. Start with "End of the Line".

Prince kills it on the guitar .. an angry guitar at that. 🎸 Prince was upset with Rolling Stone’s Top 100 Guitarists list cuz he wasn’t even mentioned. Hence, the brilliant angry guitar solo. 😡 That following year Prince got ranked at #39 in the Top 100. 🤜 “Boom”

Steve Winwood is a long-time singer, keyboardist, and guitarist who started with the Spencer Davis Group when he was 15 as their vocalist, then moved to Traffic, then Blind Faith (and a couple side-projects, one with Eric Clapton) before continuing his career as a solo artist. Spencer Davis Group, Traffic, and Blind Faith are all worth checking out.
Looks like he's on the keyboard for this one.

Steve Winwood is rock n roll royalty. He's also in the Hall of Fame w/his former band Traffic. He was a child prodigy, multi-instrumentalist and has a singular voice. Many famous rockers sought him out to work with him. Jimi Hendrix wanted to be in a band with him & Steve did play on Jimi's Voodoo Child song. Steve and Eric Clapton were in the band Blind Faith together. He joined his first pro band at the age of 14-15, Gimme Some Lovin is his world famous song while he was a teen. Traffic-Dear Mr Fantasy, Blind Faith-Can't Find My Way Home, won Grammy's in the 80s..Higher Love, Roll With It, Valerie. His catalogue is deep.

George Harrison was such an amazing songwriter, singer and musician. He just happened to be in the same band as the greatest, most prolific singer/songwriting duo in all of music history. He's likely one of the ultimate inspirations for guitar players everywhere. Little wonder Prince wanted to play on this.
