It's not a period! Dogs do not have menstrual periods. It's just sometimes the way they ovulate they can spot like that. But they don't she'd their lining. Like most other mamals, their body reabsorbes it

All my dogs were spayed and are spayed so I had no idea
When my Pomeranian had her first period ( she usually sleeps in bed with me) she stayed on the floor and she was whining and like showing lots of attention to her area. When I picked her up I noticed and got her a pamper and rubbed her belly in bed until she fell asleep.

@@shamithakk she’s older now that was a few years ago I now own a pit Bull, she’s going to be 1 august 8th she had her first cycle/ heat at a little bit over 8 months. 8 months and 3 weeks to be exact!

Please get your pets spayed and neutered around 6 months of age. If you do not there could be health risks involved with letting your dog “mature”. There are major health risks involved with not spaying and neutering your pets at an early age.
Just spay the damn dog,if your planning on breeding her that's selfish considering the puppies will probably end up being killed In a shelter
no you should wait for your dog to be "grown up" so with girls they should have at least one heat and with boys I'd wait 1 to 2 years

My dog started her second heat last week and today she won’t stop crying and she doesn’t want to eat. She looks agitated and is lethargic. I was worried until I did my research and found out all of those are symptoms your dog can experience during heat. I cuddled with her and she stopped crying and now I’m currently outside with her just letting her run around and sniff and play. ♥️♥️♥️ Take care of your babies everyone!!! 🐶🐩🐕🦮🐕🦺

i don't get it either. to spout their smug ideologies without knowing exactly everyone's unique situation? like your reply to another comment above, some dogs can't go under anesthesia. my boxer, for example, has an advanced heart murmur she was born with and now has dilated cardiomyopathy. to put her under anesthesia would certainly kill her. videos like these help owners like me whose dog can't go under surgery.
amahler03 Exactly! Not to mention sometimes spaying does more harm than good to specific dogs. The hormones produced by the genitals are extremely beneficial most cases and the issues causes by hormones can be easily monitored. I'd only spay if the dog turns middle aged and the chances of them forming hormonal problems are increased
I mean if you aren't breeding them there's no point in them having them. Spaying will also protect from a deadly infection that a intact dog can get at any age.

This has been the longest couple of weeks. My 10 month old is in her first heat. Almost done now just waiting on the swelling to go down all the way. Penelope has changed a lot. No more puppy nibbles and she seems a lot more sensitive. My lil young lady is all grown up. Now I will get her spayed mid cycle. I am so glad I was able to allow her to mature fully first.
Wait till they are at least three years of age for them to fully mature and grow.
@@onatarabandrui8375 ah thought you should really only wait a year and a half. Then again I could be thinking about wolf dogs, who mature at 2-3 years

Great tips!! Thank you! We needed them!! I had already bought fancy panties & pads to get ready. Things make more sense now in regards to their behavior & not wanting to eat puppy food anymore. This is the 1st time we’ve had a female dog go into heat & we are lucky enough to have sisters in heat. Yay!! lol 😂 We’ve always had our dogs fixed beforehand.
I haven’t decided on breeding them since they are purebred Silky Terriers and so adorable. It’s a BIG decision to make. We will need to keep them inside now since our new neighbors have a boy dog. The sisters have been fighting over him. The neighbor dog turns his back to them & ignores their flirtatious barks. I’m thankful for that. 🐕❤️
This is great. My girl is 5 months now and I just started thinking about when I need to do to prepare for her first heat. I have a very large breed, so I was told it's best to spay at about 2 years because of her growth. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction for preparing.

I have been keeping male dogs for years this time my first time with a female dog. She usually is very energetic and nibbles a lot , now she's very clingy and calm, she only wants to cuddle the whole day and that's what I actually do. It's gonna be a great three weeks of cuddles

Good video, but no one talks about how you actually comfort a dog in heat. My dog who is 7 months old now. She got a shot to help her thru this season, like one week b4. However, she is very anxious to mate and not sure how to comfort her as I do not want her to mate. Males Thank God are not jumping over fences or tearing down fences to get to her, which I am very happy about.

Wow.. When mines in heat shes usually like.. "Love meeee-- whoa hey bish dont touch me!" or "I'm dying.. This is it.. I'm dead.".. I put her in my neices diapers.. They fit her like a glove..

@@peggyhill8028 probably try cutting a hole in the diaper for her tail. Or special doggie diapers w adult liners like she shows on the video.
@@peggyhill8028 my choice is to just place comfy over-cloths on her favourite locations, and launder them to get out stains later. and wipe drops from floor. Why stress her with diapers ?
My vet told me I could spay my girl before her first heat cycle, seems like a easier option as you only have to deal with the discharge once.
If you spay before the first heat, you don't have to deal with any discharge cycle!
Deivia Keskküla In that case, we shouldn't vaccinate our dogs for deadly diseases, give them flea prevention, bathe them, trim their nails, feed them dog food, or keep them inside. None of those things are natural, thus we shouldn't do them, right?
Also, dogs are more likely to get diseases when you DON'T spay them. Mammary cancer and other types of reproductive cancers are incredibly common in older unspayed dogs. They can be entirely avoided by spaying your dog. That's why even breeders get their dogs spayed after they're too old to have puppies.
Seriously, just get your dog spayed. Don't buy into all those myths as to why you shouldn't.
Deku Kitty a better comparison would be parents doing circumcision or vasectomies on their children. They aren't necessary.
DiamondTeardrop6 If you spay your female dog before her first heat it can actually cause health problems which is the only reason we didn’t consider it, we’re not planning on breeding her. My breeder is suggesting 18 months to two years I just don’t know if I can wait that long since my dog is only 11 months right now but I definitely wouldn’t spay my animal before her first heat that much I know

Me too. My English Bulldog is 9 months and I am clueless. She doesnt seem to be in any pain.
Absolutely nothing to worry about. Just allow the dog more rest & be vigilant when out, don't have her off lead around other dogs.

Baby nappies wont stay on, may have to get pants. Bleeding is for about ten days cant be desexed for a month from start of first season but better to wait 3 months breeder said.

Little update: she was in heat for about 3 weeks and her behaviour didn´t change much. I just recognized that she was sleepy most of the time. Now she is back "to her old self" and is more playful now that she is "done" :)
Glad to know she's back to her old self and didn't get affected much from her heat!

I was worried about my dog not eating do to her going through her first heat. I definitely feel reassured now. I’ve had to hand feed her and add different things to her food. I’m going to try switching her to adult food.

My dog is on her heat today and I swear she wouldn't wanna leave me alone all day! She always went where I went and cried and when she wanted affection and attention too lol, as a matter of a fact she is right next to me right now sleeping with her doggy diaper on heh!
Everyone saying “just spay her” there are many recommendations of allowing your dog to have her first heat before spaying due to studies showing greater quality of life later on. Each species is different, for example for my golden studies have shown that not spaying leads to decreased risk of cancer, which is high among golden’s. Just putting this out there to encourage research and making decisions for what’s best for the dog as opposed to just straight judgement.

you probably shouldn’t have a dog if you can’t afford to take care of it, but I don’t know your situation! when your dog is in heat, make sure to keep her inside and away from other male dogs to prevent unwanted pregnancies, which can be very expensive
@@Lauren-uu7qy who are you to judge a person because they can't afford the vets prices on getting their dog fixed, the vets shouldn't charge so much they need a good program solution to help the low income families and senior citizens to afford to see a vet for treatment of their pets. I am guess you have no problem taking your pets to a vet you have the money, do you know what it feels like when your pet has a accident and the vets from every county around you are willing to let your dog die because you don't have the money at that time and they want let you pay the bill each month. We love our pets as much or more then people that has no problem paying the bill at the time of treatment. So don't judge if you haven't walked in their shoes

My dog poshia just got her first period yesterday.
I noticed she lost her appetite, at first I thought she didn’t like her food anymore so I had to change it, helps a little but she is still not eating as much as she used to.

Yes. It's probably very tender. They'll try to keep it clean themselves.
My 9 Month old puppy weighs 4 lbs, when the vets tried to anesthetize her for surgery she stopped breathing due to her small size. I hope i can get her spayed safely ASAP!
