    If you are going to neuter your dog. It's better to wait few years. To make sure the dog fully grown and had few cycles. So you don't risk the chance of neutering too early and giving your dog health problems down the road.

    Your video is the first that popped up when I searched “do dogs have periods”. :) I’m a new puppy owner and woke up to a shock! I was terrified for my pup and you have alleviated my fears. Thank you. I love my sweet Rosie more than I ever thought I could love a little energetic cotton ball of loveliness! She’s literally changed my life. So when I saw blood, I freaked out. And, she didn’t leap up to greet me and looked relatively unwell. My poor little girlie. I guess she’s got to grow up sometime. :/

    Thank you so much for sharing and I always enjoy your informative videos! Our female cockapoo just had her first cycle, and is scheduled for spaying in January. Our veterinarian didn't really offer an explanation but said that they usually spay around 5 months. Ultimately, we went with the breeders' advice and waited. I didn't ask questions at the time, but have read that hormones are necessary for full growth and bone formation. Not sure about the validity of this, but definitely worth reading.

    • @anastasia581
      @anastasia581 ปีที่แล้ว

      I’ve been doing some reading on it for awhile now, and I personally have decided to wait one heat cycle unlike a lot of veterinarians who advice otherwise. I personally wonder if the veterinarians advice that because they feel it’s extra caution for dogs not to get pregnant at all, or maybe they’re scared the owner will never get around to spaying them or they’ll have many heat cycles before spaying which is higher risk for many things wrong. I say if it’s better for their health and the person doesn’t have any male dogs around the house who aren’t fixed, plus they keep them inside with their diapers it’s absolutely worth it! But to each their own :) I also read it’s good to wait 2-3 months after they go into their first heat to spay!!! I know you posted this a month ago but hope all goes well!

    • @Krebstar100
      @Krebstar100 ปีที่แล้ว

      Look into an ovarian sparing spay. It's a hysterectomy as opposed to an ovarian hysterectomy. Keeping the ovaries keeps their hormones stable, which is good for the dogs' overall health. She won't be able to get pregnant but still has all of her hormones, which are vital to the dogs health. Removing the dogs hormone ability to regulate hormones leads to a lot of health problems as well as potential behavioral problems such as increased aggression.

    As a vet nurse I would recommend everyone speak to a vet they trust to decide on sterilisation age as it can vary from dog to dog. Getting them sterilised doesn't change their personality at all, and there are pros and cons to sterilising before their first heat and sterilising after their first heat, which is why it's best to speak with your vet before making a decision 😊🐾

    • @Krebstar100
      @Krebstar100 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There are some behavioral issues that can come with ovariohysterectimies and neutering. Thyroid and other hormone imbalances can increase a dog's aggression.

    • @Windshieldchoke
      @Windshieldchoke ปีที่แล้ว +2

      But getting them sterilized would make it to where you can never have part of them in another puppy someday when they will no longer be here, and that’s not the only reason, I won’t have my dogs body modified, i won’t clip my dogs ears, I won’t clip my dogs tail, all for “my satisfaction” not theirs. The answer to everything isn’t always getting them fixed, if they bleed from what their body naturally does, it doesn’t mean sterilize them, just because you have a period it doesn’t mean you go get fixed now does it😀 it don’t mean they need to have a surgical procedure and go through all the pain and possible complications/behavioral changes that come with it. If you don’t want your dog to have puppies keep them separate from males when unattended it’s not hard to do at all, if you don’t like them bleeding, get them a dog diaper. It’s very simple, and best part about it is you don’t gotta pay a vet to do something lifelong to them and temporary for you.

    • @earthkarma7420
      @earthkarma7420 ปีที่แล้ว

      @SayItagain And this is why shelters are overwhelmed and dogs are left on the streets getting hit by cars daily now. Neglect and abuse is rampant because of ignorance and heartlessness. It's turning into a third world country for this reason. Irresponsible people are not fixing their dogs and they become susceptible to more cancers. I would never compare spaying to cropping ears or tails.

    • @MillieaCockapoo
      @MillieaCockapoo  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      If you either keep her in a room where it’s easy to clean if blood goes on any and let her self clean. That way you shouldn’t have to see much blood as she’ll be cleaning herself.
      Or put a dog nappy on her, however you will need to change this and wash them.
      The only other option is having her spayed before her 1st season.
      I’m afraid it’s just something you have to deal with if you choose to let her have a season.
