Fun fact: The Buddhist line got the song banned in the UK because there had been a mass murder weeks before. Hungerford I think it was. So, they had to release I Started Something I Couldn't Finish as a single instead.
I saw the video for this song on something weeks before it was due to be released as their next single. Due to the Hungerford massacre the song was then pulled as the lyrics including "plan a mass murder" were seen to perhaps cause offence. I started something I couldn't finish was then chosen as a replacement single. I was unaware this had taken place and saw the exact same video again sometime later, this time with the song switched. I thought I was losing my flipping marbles... 🤔

Imo The Smiths greatest song is Last Night I Dreamt That Somebody Loved Me. It has a 2 minute slow intro before it gets going but the lyrics are amazing once it gets there. If you're brave enough Lauren a lot of fans would love to hear your comments on this track. Love what your doing, keep it up.

Lovely to see you back. I'm sure you'll have loads of Smith's songs stacked up anyway, but for special bass Smiths try This Night Has Opened My Eyes and That Joke Isn't Funny Anymore. Slower songs with beautifully crafted and gorgeously melodic bass lines. Andy was really special.

Old metal head musician... But before I was a rock/metal musician I was a "Mod" through out the 80's and Bands like The Cure and Depeche were a constant and The Smiths was daily mandatory listening.
It's funny because I practice other metal bands tunes to keep up playing songs from A-Z, but most all of my own music ends up sounding like my 80's Alternative influences.
Good stuff, keep up the good work.

This LP has a thicker, denser sound. The guitars are super layered and, compared to previous LP's, the guitars are more up-front, making the bass less intelligible. Love your Smiths reactions!!!

I believe The Smiths were already breaking up when this album (Strange Ways Here We Come)was made, hence the title of the album. I believe they did not record this in the studio together. If I am wrong, I am sure I will be corrected. A few standouts on this album for me are "Last Night I Dreamt that Somebody Loved me," and "Unhappy Birthday."
"Last Night... " is definitely the highlight on that album. Strangways is a prison on Manchester, btw.

Great reaction video. One thing I didn't like (but not your fault): It irritates me when lyric videos get the lyrics wrong. 6:04 - " broke my spleen and broke my knee and then he really LAID into me"

Morrissey insisted against the opinion of the other members of the band that "Gilfriend in a coma" was the first single from the album. In my opinion this song should clearly have been the first single from the album.
I believe they never performed this song live because they split up not long after.
