I remember back in 1999 I was 17. I would hear this frequently while I was in the car with my dad. During the part where the song says "I hear a song from another time and fade away....and fade away. Just close your eyes and I'll take you there". I can only imagine that my dad was probably thinking about a time when he was a teenager just having fun. Now I'm almost the age that my dad was in 1999, and there are times when I hear a song from another time (when I was 17) and fade away. Crazy how life works. Enjoy every moment of time in your life, take it all in, both the good and bad because one day you'll hear a song from another time and look back at it all. The good times will make you smile and the bad times won't seem as bad. Stay safe and healthy everyone
Funny, I can remember being 19 in 99. I remember, back then thinking one day in the future, I'll hear this song and fade away with the memories. It made me cry back then, and today listening to it for the first time in years, I'm crying all over again... lol yes I'm a crybaby, but it's ok, because I guess that's just how life is. Count it all joy. Take care all💙
@@IAMCHANNELLA It's tough when you sit back and realize how fast time went by. All we can do now is just make sure that we enjoy every minute of life and take it all in. Ride it out through both the good and bad and just smile.
In 1999 I was 7 years old and will see my mom listen to this song, she will smile and bob her head, she looked as if she was filled with excitement and I always wondered what she is thinking of?? I'am now 29 years old and now my moms age when I was 7, all I can think of is the good old memories I had in my life, how I will never live those beautiful child years, teen years, and my 20's . Almost feels like I'am closing a book I have been reading for years and it hurts :(
Am I the only one who immediately starts crying when I hear this song? It's like a beautiful yet hard slap of a reminder those happy days /moments and some of the friends/family are long gone

It’s amazing how one song can make you think of all the lovers and friends you’ve lost along the way, the places you no longer visit, and all the little in between moments that got lost in time.
I remember this song from a little toy I had when I was a kid, anyone remember the tiny plastic little radios? They were called Hit Clips and you'd insert that small square cartridge with the song on it

Born in 95 but grew up listening to this song at the beach. I will be honest, my eyes get watery every time i hear this song, and a couple tears might come down my cheek. Great times. I loved those times so much, but life goes on and that is that, lets just all be thankful we had such great times and keep on moving on. Its not healthy to live in the past and not be in the present moment because every moment is the " good ole days" R.I.P 90s and early 2000s. You were an awesome time :)
I was born in 1990 and I consider '95 to be the last year that one could be born and enjoy some of the 90s fun (everyone knows a lot of the 90s style spilled into the early 00s).
I straight up just cried now. The nostalgia just flooded over me. For me, it's not just the fact that the song is amazing, it's that I heard it on the radio with a bunch of friends all around me. Discovering music was a matter of tuning in to the right radio station, and then going to a store and picking up a physical album to peruse the album art and insert while listening to the tunes. I miss everything about the 90's. It's the goofiness most importantly, where everyone seemed to wear sunglasses, vibrant colors and shark tooth necklaces. There was a sort of innocence that has just withered away as the years go on.
I remember being 13 coming home to eat in front of the T.V (only Fridays tho) my mom's food, watching the top 10 songs and getting so thrilled when this song came out and talking to my brother who was 17 at that time. Now my mom's gone (today is her 3rd heavenly anniversary) and me and my brother grew apart. Those were the times were i was so blessed and happy, life was different, it was easy and enjoyable.
Yeah, good day's good memories for you, I wish time's were like that now, 🙄, time's must change, but why do they do it all so fast, , but great sentiments and a happier life back then, ✌️
Sorry for your loss, but happy to hear about your fond memories. Maybe try reaching out to your brother sometime if there isn't some extenuating circumstance preventing you from doing so? Might be a nice reunion.
@@danbuckner8364 oh I’ve tried believe me. He just doesn’t like me lol and I would be lying if I say it doesn’t hurt me but I’m trying to accept it and just find a family somewhere else haha but damn those memories are the absolute best. Thank you :)
Imagine if you could go back to 1999 and just lay back beachside with all your old friends and family. Almost hurts too much to think about. Song makes me sad in a beautiful way...
Nostalgia at its best. I’m 35 and this song takes me back to a 16 year old teenager. Walking under the hot summer sun going to meet up with friends just to be board under a cooling tree. Best times of my life.
I am 68 years old and this is one of the most beautiful songs I have ever heard. Believe me, I have heard a lot of beautiful songs in my lifetime, and this song rates right there with the best ones. Oh by the way this is the first time hearing this song.
I'm from Kenya...and this track was a club banger back in early 2000. Westlands, and the city clubs always played it. We love it here in Africa...wish they came on your here
Me too sometimes it makes me cry. All these old songs. Makes me remember all the times my mom said “enjoy being a kid”. you’ll never be able to go back. It’s all just a distant memory now. 😢
it's crazy how one day you're 6 years old listening to this song in your dads jeep, then suddenly you're 28 and missing him too much, finally understanding the true meaning of the lyrics...
I could remember this being on MTV all summer in 99 I was 12 years old and this gives me chills listening because I'm transported to my moms living room watching the box ,bet and MTV this song is a national treasure it gives you good feelings from all the good times from back then.
Yep! Same. I was 13, though. I found this again after watching some Smashmouth music videos. RIP Steve Harwell. But this song, in particular, brings me back. Cheers to you guys! Glad we grew up when we did.
This was the first music video I ever remember watching. Summer of 99 at my grandparents house with my siblings watching MTV in our grandparents bedroom after a long day at the beach, waiting for dinner and hoping mom or dad wouldn’t catch us watching MTV 😂 my oldest brother must’ve been y’all’s age at the time, I was only 5 lol but this was clearly a core memory for me. Good times.
This song brings back special memories for me. We had just moved from Houston to Lakeland Florida for my dad’s new job opportunity in late 1999. We only stayed there 2 years then moved back to Houston, but every time I think of those memories, this is the song to go with them. We lost my brother in 2018 and it hurts so much still til this day. When I think of all the great memories in my life, one of the most memorable ones is those 4 kids with their mom and dad hearing this song and enjoying life. We love you and miss you, Matt ❤️
Ah, Great Song, I have heard it on the radio the other day and tried to find it. This song was a defining moment of the 90's, although it was released in 1999. Being a product of the 1990's, I can say this is a great way to remember and connect with the past. Long live the 90's! Now only if we could go back in time...
1999 good year. Nickelodeon was on fire, Cartoon Network was on fire. Stuff was cheap. Family vacations being outside for hours staring at the cloud with friends. Man wish I could go back
Everytime I hear this song I cry because my uncle who passed away may of 1999 always was there for me everyday I wonder what my life would of been like if he was still here
This was actually the first song I had ever listened too, crazy to think that I still remember it 16 years later. Thank you mom for showing me such a beautiful song❤️
That's just something I've heard, man. No disrespect meant. But now that I read that comment back, I can see why it comes off that way. No good way to word it though.
Hi im the 90' from Indonesia.. Leaving comment here wish that a few months or years later somebody can like this and remind me back... Im on oldies spree 90-2010 song
Used to listen to this song as a child with the car windows down moving my hand like a wave in the air. The seemingly meaningless memories of my past have brought a form of nostalgia, simplicity and reminder that it’s the small things that count.
When I listen to songs like this it reminds me of the magical feeling of the 90s and I get upset because I think it is something that we'll never get to feel again. There was something special about the middle to end of that decade that felt like perfection
I can remember this playing on VH1/MTV at 6am everyday getting ready for school . The tune never left my brain. Then it played at work at the brink of 6am a few days ago...the little things 😌.
This was real MASTERPIECE of song writing and WONDERFUL music on your part, Sugar Ray.....!!! At 67 years of age - Your extremely soulful and thought provoking, huge hit single can very easily be applied to those, such as myself, who have lost both their parents, and must now look back (tearfully) on all that they did for us, without question, or receiving anything in return, and their very sad and heart-breaking passing, from our lives. ('And Fade Away'). THANK YOU (as well as your outstanding band members) for all your efforts and such a great song!!! Greg
I love reading the comments of all my favorite bands/songs. Everyone has their own take and story about it, bittersweet feelings🥲 I was born in 05 but 90s music was my childhood, I wish really lived the 90s though. Seemed like such a great fun time
Was in the Marines, 20 years old, would call my dad and my girl from Okinawa Japan twice a week and just enjoying the ride. Now, when I hear this, I think of them both...lost em both far too soon nine months apart in 2008 and 2009. Thankfully, the memories of them don't fade away.
One of my top songs even after all these decades. Everytime i hear it reminds me of my university days in Pennsylvania. Such clear lyrics that even i could understand every word even though i am not a native english speaker.
I lost a friend to Rona a few weeks ago. He called me Sugar Ray cuz I look like this guy lol. Not my kind of music but Im watching it for him. Godspeed Waylon....have a safe journey home my guy.
You know how you hear a song you haven't hear In a while and one day you hear it out of nowhere and it instantly brings you right back to that time and place so long ago? This is that song
I cry everytime I hear this song. It came into my life during my darkest times and it shined a light in my soul for hope. It reminds me of the pain I experienced during that period and how I almost threw my life away.
Feel you, this song always cheer me up during bad day; here is a thing I learnt, may sound dumb but it works: when the song starts press some part of one hand with the other, like your thumb or you back hand with your fingers from your other hand, make pressure until it starts to hurt just a little, keep pressing until the song ends, try this like 10 times during a week or 2; it has to be your favorite song or the one that calms you and cheers you up. Then the next time you feel down just make the pressure and you'll feel the same way you do when listening the song without actually listening to it and the song will play automatically in your head. It does work, trust me.
2019 - i dedicate this song for all the regrets that i may have for all throughout my entire Life! My friends whom have long since passed or moved on to their own respective lives, may you guys find peace and better things to come your way! I am always here for u guys, even if yall dont need me anymore! Cheers!
The perfect ode to the 90s song. This song has the strange ability to make me happy or sad . Back in 1999 this song was being nostalgic about before the 90s, now it applies to missing the 90s in 2024. Classic 90s reminiscing trip.
Someone left a comment like this awhile ago that I've been trying to find that went something like this song is about itself in the future from the past.
I’m 29 . My father walked out when I was 11ish. I never understood him but I hated him for it. I’m older and have gone thru relationships myself and have kids. He was pushed away but I never saw that to me he just left. I forgive you Dad and I miss you so much. I hope one day we can sit down and talk about life .
It's always the songs you heard back then that were not commonly played in subsequent years that produce the truest nostalgia, transporting you back to those summer holidays that seemed endless, knowing that, as a kid, everything would work out fine when you got older. And then, reality hits like a slap in the face and you realise that 1999 was in fact the best year of your life. So you return to the songs that you heard back then...and drift away.
This song brings me back to my senior year in high school. I worked every Sunday morning as a waiter that year and this song was always on in the kitchen. Even though it's called someday, I think of it as 'sunday' for all those shifts. It funny how something so random can take you back.
haha same thing for me, like random songs working at Round table pizza as the manager LOL getting hella blasted in the bathrooms and helping customers ahaha. Honestly that was the best job I ever had. Not paying well but was so fun to mess around there.
Back in 2002, I was in a horrible car accident. I was t-boned by a drunk driver. I still can't remember everything from it but I can clearly remember after my car was flipped over, this song kept playing in the radio. All I remember was voices asking me if I was okay and this song and then I passed out. Woke up in the hospital a week later, with almost every bone in my body broken. Took me about a year and a few surgeries to fully recover. But despite everything, still love the song.
***** I think it has to do with rapid increases in technology giving everyone the hope that life wasn't as constrained as it actually is... Same with the late 80's, I think. Economy was starting to pick up, and anything was possible. Now with global access to information it's kind of apparent that it isn't going to change anymore, and when you realize that half the population is dumber than the average person it gets even worse. Early 80's would've been cool if you were into moustaches and flannels I guess, although that's starting to come back...
I was five when this song came out. I remember listening to it in my mom's car while eating starbursts. SugarRay and Marcy Playground's songs will remain my most nostalgic.
Tom Mcloon I believe I was either nine or ten years old when I first heard this song....and I didn't know.who sang it i had to seven long years without hearing this song smh
My brother committed suicide three years ago on the 9th. This was his favorite song growing up. He told me as a kid "when I die play this song" I never thought I would... at 24 years old I watched them lower him into the ground. I played this song and held in my tears. Three days later I broke in my car playing this.
24 years ago my brothers and I would just run through all these music and music clips and would over watch em all just sitting around the Tely.... Time is something.... Life is something.... now everyone has their own life with their family..... and every now and down I'll get a link to something like this.....
This song makes me think of all of my deceased relatives, grandparents, parents. I am 56 years old and it's easy to think of those times of the past as the greatest of all times that have already passed us by. But, this song also reminds me that those are the times and the people that made of who we are today. It also reminds me that even in this crazy world we have inherited, there is hope and great things to be had and passed on to the upcoming generations.
Hearing this song takes me back to growing up and summers in Seaside Heights in the 90's. Would love to get back that care-free sense of innocence I haven't really known since 9/11/2001. I was 14 when that happened, so I guess it's appropriate timing, but that event - and having it hit close to home - really seemed to put an unexpected punctuation on my childhood. Life has seemed immeasurably more complicated ever since.
+Couldn't think of a good name so i guess this is it dam bro That's so crazy we used to go down to Seaside Heights every summer, I'm also from NJ just live up in Northern NJ...but yeah The beach is what this song makes me think of too
+Couldn't think of a good name so i guess this is it I can so relate to this, I grew up in queens. And my wife seemed to change drastically in 2001... 90's were such a care-free and chill time for me
we are all heading for the same place - bliss. I pray your journey is peaceful. Music is such a blessing and I'm glad you found your peace in this song.
Y'all just don't know how much I miss these dudes. They were all over the radio in the mix with some of America's other favorite acts such as Smash Mouth, Bloodhound Gang, Linkin Park to No Doubt, Missy Elliott, Busta Rhymes & Eminem. Had TH-cam been around in the late 90s, there's a sure chance this video would have at least 99 million views. Sucks that some of their popular stuff from their heyday is massively slept-on in current time. No matter what, I'll always adore the "14:59" & "Floored" albums. Hot ass albums in contemporary pop/rock/alt music.
I remember back in 1999 I was 17. I would hear this frequently while I was in the car with my dad. During the part where the song says "I hear a song from another time and fade away....and fade away. I always loved how this song felt both summery and melancholy at the same time.
@Alysa Honeywell mostly, but as somone who hasnr listened to this song before its a bit melancholy.
I have the same sentiment...
Facts it has that summery happy and nostalgic vibe 2 it 🙏
A good example. Summer, much like the other seasons, is fleeting. When it ends, you can’t but feel like it ended too soon.
All the 3 songs by Sugar Ray that I know has that vibe for me. Probably because these guys were the first band I remember hearing on CN.

Tom Mcloon yeah that was a bit exaggerated and immature. sorry
I was born in 94 and i agree, 90's and early 2000's were the best times, Almost breaks my heart how music is today
I was born in 1990 and I consider '95 to be the last year that one could be born and enjoy some of the 90s fun (everyone knows a lot of the 90s style spilled into the early 00s).
chownful Yes, 95 is the last..
I was born in 92 I miss the early 2000s it shape me up to like the things I like today
Music will always bind us together. No matter how hard they try to tear us apart.
Oh and they are trying.
You are soooo right😊
Yes. 💓🙂
Nobody is trying to tear you apart.
@@hsun7997 speak for yourself. With all do respect you have absolutely no idea what is going on in my life or anyone elses.
❤

Awwwe
Fade away till it feels like the 90's again
Imagine if you could go back to 1999 and just lay back beachside with all your old friends and family. Almost hurts too much to think about. Song makes me sad in a beautiful way...
I agree
I remember I used to stress so much over not having homework turned in... I'm 34 now and I'd do anything for that to be my only concern. Hahaha
Can't do that now..now i live in the city and it's too expensive to go on vacations..
@@kawainess you were always there for me
Your comment made me sad too man.
Nostalgia at its best.
I’m 35 and this song takes me back to a 16 year old teenager. Walking under the hot summer sun going to meet up with friends just to be board under a cooling tree. Best times of my life.
Same about to turn 35.. ah how I miss these days! Summer nights listening to this song..
Same! 35 next month & still loving this song.

Time flies so fast.. Listen this in '99 , now 2024 . Bring back old memory with friends.
I am 68 years old and this is one of the most beautiful songs I have ever heard. Believe me, I have heard a lot of beautiful songs in my lifetime, and this song rates right there with the best ones. Oh by the way this is the first time hearing this song.
"Word" Raymond I'm 64 and agree with you 💯 percent 😎
19 yr old here every time I hear this song i start to cry definitely a one of a kind tune 👌
Stay young at heart always, Raymond (and Robert) ... and everyone else.

Dear Aliens, please take me back to the 90's when I was still in school and life was simpler. I miss my loved ones.
The nostalgia is strong with this one.

Agreed I recorded this video off of MTV on VHS
Facts even more than ever
Gives me goosebumps..❤
I'm from Kenya...and this track was a club banger back in early 2000. Westlands, and the city clubs always played it. We love it here in Africa...wish they came on your here
Woke up today and this song started playing in my head. Classic!
This is a perfect song and every time I hear it, I'm instantly moved to tears. God bless Sugar Ray!
As am I. Glad I'm not the only one. I'm 63 and this is one of the best songs I have ever heard.

Me too sometimes it makes me cry. All these old songs. Makes me remember all the times my mom said “enjoy being a kid”. you’ll never be able to go back. It’s all just a distant memory now. 😢
RIP
Sugar Ray is just one of those bands that nobody in this world could hate and everyone knows at least one of their songs! Oh nostalgia..
it's crazy how one day you're 6 years old listening to this song in your dads jeep, then suddenly you're 28 and missing him too much, finally understanding the true meaning of the lyrics...
Hahahah 4weeks
You're my age and i feel the same way. I was born in 94. My dad isn't gone but I still miss him when I hear these songs. Growing up sucks
Same brother!.. same!.. the nostalgia..
I heard this when I was 6 and my dad passed away that sane year and I'm now 28 what a coincidence! nostalgic song for me!
Bro I feel you...I was 7...one day in the eyes of a passer by...I look around for another try. And we fade away
Isn't it strange how a song can transport you back in time? When I hear this song it brings me straight back to 1999. Good times
I could remember this being on MTV all summer in 99 I was 12 years old and this gives me chills listening because I'm transported to my moms living room watching the box ,bet and MTV this song is a national treasure it gives you good feelings from all the good times from back then.
Man foreal, I was 12 too crazy how simple life used to be
Yes 12yrs old and had this album on cassette...nostalgia
Im 12 yrs old also during this year! Oh man how time flies by so fast 😢
Yep!
Good times.
This band is criminally underrated. This song is catchy, creative, complex and original. Name another band who sounds like Sugar Ray.
There are elements of 311, Sublime and others...but overall, I agree They carved their own sound
Parokya ni Edgar
The Beach Boys, vocally at least. KM
Yes, you have said it. So so criminally underated. What uniqueness they brought to the world of music. I was 18 when this came out. Aaah memories.
I thought they were huge back then? But if you're talking about the present times, then yeah they're kinda forgotten.
This was the song that basically said goodbye to the 90's, damn how I wish I could be there
For me, the song that said goodbye to the '90s was Bas Lehrman's "Sunscreen"
1999 good year. Nickelodeon was on fire, Cartoon Network was on fire. Stuff was cheap. Family vacations being outside for hours staring at the cloud with friends. Man wish I could go back
Lets build a time machine lol
INDEED GOD BLESS
Yea the 90s were the best
It is so sad to realize we can't...
"CALL ME NOW FOR YA' FREE READIN"! - Miss Cleo

Sugar Ray's BEST Song bar none.
Falls Apart is a very close second imo
No question dude
um, obvi 🙄
Not even worth arguing
Idk its a tie between this and "when its over" for me.
Both are a heavy hit of nostalgia 🥲
Just graduated high school when this came out. Such good times. Sometimes I wish i could just fade away...
Hi im the 90' from Indonesia.. Leaving comment here wish that a few months or years later somebody can like this and remind me back... Im on oldies spree 90-2010 song
Sama mas bro, the song was my early teen song
Makes me think when I was a teenager listening to this song on the radio 😊
Used to listen to this song as a child with the car windows down moving my hand like a wave in the air. The seemingly meaningless memories of my past have brought a form of nostalgia, simplicity and reminder that it’s the small things that count.
And it fade away ...
This is probably my favorite song of all time because its very nostalgic.
I am 3 years of full retirement, but this song sent me back to my best days. Peace put everybody.
When I listen to songs like this it reminds me of the magical feeling of the 90s and I get upset because I think it is something that we'll never get to feel again. There was something special about the middle to end of that decade that felt like perfection
right i feel the same way. I say we all vote for another decade like the 90's

Yesssss more musics like this!! I'd be good with like 5 more musics

Glad you made it....Peace
Stay strong......
The perfect ode to the 90s song. This song has the strange ability to make me happy or sad . Back in 1999 this song was being nostalgic about before the 90s, now it applies to missing the 90s in 2024. Classic 90s reminiscing trip.

This resonants with me.
I’m 29 . My father walked out when I was 11ish. I never understood him but I hated him for it. I’m older and have gone thru relationships myself and have kids. He was pushed away but I never saw that to me he just left. I forgive you Dad and I miss you so much. I hope one day we can sit down and talk about life .
😢 my dad was my whole world. He died on April 28th. We always said it's the two Wayne's against the world. Rip Wayne Sr. My soul is cut in half.
“Sunday…when this shift has passed me by, I’ll lay around and wonder why my lower back is killin meeeee”
But despite everything, still love the song.
damn, glad you survived

90s rock was the best but I'd say the 80s was best time to live in the 90s rap was more the thing and that music is garbage
No brah, it's all about the cave man music!!!
Randall Lanier I like mizdow
***** I think it has to do with rapid increases in technology giving everyone the hope that life wasn't as constrained as it actually is... Same with the late 80's, I think. Economy was starting to pick up, and anything was possible. Now with global access to information it's kind of apparent that it isn't going to change anymore, and when you realize that half the population is dumber than the average person it gets even worse.
Early 80's would've been cool if you were into moustaches and flannels I guess, although that's starting to come back...
Remember hearing this on the radio when I would go on road trips with my mom - just here for the memories
I still love this song so much! The production is so good and its very well written!!
This song is a classic and truly is one of the best of the era ❤️❤️🥰🥰

+Couldn't think of a good name so i guess this is it I can so relate to this, I grew up in queens. And my wife seemed to change drastically in 2001... 90's were such a care-free and chill time for me

Yayyyy! I'm so thrilled to hear! Heading over right now! :-)
