All around the world statues crumble for me

Twenty-five years old my mother God rest her soul

Put your arms around me, baby

Love can make you hostage wanna do it again
There's no time to think about the starting or the end
We'll find out I'm told, my mother she told me so
    I just wanna fly
Put your arms around me, baby
Put your arms around me, baby

Put your arms around me, baby
    I just want to fly
    I just want to fly
All around the world, statues crumble for me

When this song was released all the music critics said they were a fad and that this was their one hit wonder. In response to all that criticism they named their next album 14:59 signifying they still had 1 second left of their "15 minutes of fame"

Actually, Sugar Ray had several hits.
"Every Morning", "Fly, "When It's Over", "Someday"...
And, Smash Mouth also had more hits than just "Walking On The Sun". "All Star"..."I'm a Believer"...
Neither band was a one hit wonder.

Lol, are you joking? This band is the definition of sell out. I'm assuming you never heard their earlier shit when they were a metal band. I don't blame them, they made money and McGrath made a career out of it but they are complete sell outs

Honestly, I am so thankful the two albums they put out though of their pop/ska-ish phase.

Hard to believe Mark McGrath, lead singer of this group, turned 49 years old on March 15. What's even harder to believe, (for me, anyway), is that my 46the birthday is next week.
I was 26 when this song hit the Billboard charts and had a serious crush on Mark.

the 90s was the last decade the inherent joy of life was openly revealed. it is still here, but you have to cultivate it for yourself. To attain it you have to detach to a large degree from the world because it is so much darker now than it was then.

    • @petecollins7072
      @petecollins7072 4 ปีที่แล้ว +9

It really is. I mean, there's a lot of bias from us 90s kids about how much better everything was, and I'll openly admit that. But things have gotten objectively darker these days.

Perspective, guys. Heavy sigh. September 2020 now, and we’re in the midst of a global pandemic. Dark days indeed. Matthew, your statement about “last decade of inherent joy” troubles me because joy is an inside job. I have special memories I associate 90s alternative music with, joyful moments with my late husband, who died on his motorcycle in ‘03. It’s taken me a long time to find joy again, but I did. And I’m living fully in the present! Voltaire said we must cultivate our own garden. In that you are correct. Oh, and I’ll be 60 next year. Rock on 🤘
