I have seen several versions of this live, and Copeland changes the rhythm every time his improvisation is amazing. I am a drummer myself and he's th biggest influence on me,his mind is wired differently, he knows he has to provide the rhythm for the song, but it's almost like he is not capable of providing the same beat for a song two nights in succession, just a totally astounding drummer.
He's totally the GOAT. Can't believe this man has been killing it since before I was born. I got to see Stewdaddy Copeland live the other day(He drums for Oysterhead) and he is STILL mind-blowing.
When people ask him about specific fills on their records, he doesn't know because everything is improvised. The exact opposite of Neil Peart but both are icons in their own way.
It tracks with his jazz background, where the focus is less on writing and remembering deliberate “parts” and more on building a vocabulary of tools you can pull out confidently at any moment. It also comes down to part complexity. You can sit down and “learn” 7 Nation Army in an afternoon, but with something that uses so many ghost notes and embellishments that you’re not going to be able to write down on a sheet of paper, it’s easier to just practice the style of improv and focus on making similar creative decisions to the original.

Andy Summers got killer tone going on in this performance. I would expect nothing less.
Tone is indeed killer!
That “round” sound you hear is basically given by his Telecaster through a “MXR Phase 90 Script” and a “Dyna Comp” effect, on Marshall Plexi amp.

One of the best bands of all time. Great on record and awesome live.
Andy kills it!He can even drop out & keep the vibe. This band played using the space between the notes.
I think he dropped his pick lol
I’m a guitarist, probably he dropped it one time, but when he plays the harmonics on the refrain he is fingerpicking..
Song first
Stewart is a master of using space. His beats were the core of the music, and Sting's voice and Andy's guitar meshed and balanced perfectly.
