In this video, Dr. Clanton demonstrates how to tape claw toes. This can be done pre-operatively or while toes are recovering from surgery. One of the common problems we see with the forefoot is claw toes or hammer toes or injuries to the plantar plate. Sometimes the toe comes up or crosses over another toe, especially the second toe crossing over the big toe. In order to treat that non-operatively, we use taping.
Using a long piece of adhesive tape, we form the taping into a loop around the toe and cross the tape on the underneath side of the toe. The tape comes around the base of the toe, and we want the tape to stick to itself on the other side. This taping helps hold the toe down. If the toe it tending towards the big toe, you can take another piece and put it between the toe and pull the toe toward the outside of the foot.

My hammer toe has improved a fair bit by reducing my addiction to wearing high heels and shoes slightly too small.
Are you able to do carpentry with your toe?
I'd like to see how you do it for more than one toe at a time. For instance, it there a way to tape two toes on each foot to keep them down? My first small toe and my middle toe both have the problem of beginning to be both claw toes and hammer toes. I assume you would just do both of them as demonstrated and would have a lot of tape on your feet. Also, are you using a specific type of tape? Is it ordinary adhesive or some kind of K tape? Thank you.
Can you use kinesiology tape?
How long will it take to cure hammer toe using this method? How long to you leave the tape applied. One hour, four hours, over night? Just curious. Thank you.
This is only a temporary remedy. The only way to permanently cure a hammer toe, is through surgery.

Depending on the particulars of a person and the hammertoe that they have, perhaps exercises can be done to relieve the hammertoe.
Your best path is to become the patient of a podiatrist who would guide you through everything that is involved to non-surgically correct a hammertoe.

How long is this taping necessary?
Will he ever make more videos? I wish he would show what do when the third toe is a claw, so now two adjacent toes need taping.
Would this also help with the second turned toe turned towards the other smaller toes? Also if you were born with this?

What does the tape look like underneath the toe? Is it criss crossed? What kind of tape? You said adhesive. There are different types of tapes. Is it a papery tape? Some stuff left out.
One uploader uses duck tape and cuts the width in half.

Dr., is the sticky side of the tape where it wraps around the toe facing up? So the tape is not sticking to the toe, is only providing pressure? I'd like to see what the bottom of the toe looks like. It appears you tear the tape down the middle and stick each end to the foot. But I don't understand that part. Maybe the video is for doctors, which I'm not. I have a problem toe like that and am trying to figure out how to do what you demonstrate. Can someone explain what you are doing with the tape after you first loop it over the toe? Thank you.
It looks like he put sticky side ON the top of the toe, brought the long ends down the sides of toe, made an "X" and taped around toward top of the foot.

That demo on taping the toe did not keep her to straight at all. I have searched and tried lots of different items. My toes straightens very easy but unless I hold it with my hand nothing else works. I am trying to do this while I can still bend them easily
I have the same issue , only applying pressure to my hammer toe to straighten it works. Tried foam & gel toe tubes. And this taping the foot business. We can't go around all day trying to hold our toe down with our hand. lol
Have you tried a metatarsal pad under the foot.
I cut up quite a think insole, to make my own pad, but you can buy them online. Makes your toes stick up a lot less
Had problem with using tape. It took the skin off the bottom of my foot. You need to change it frequently. I was using paper tape, unsure if that was the problem.
Hammer toe is very hard we can't put bandage or plaster.. show me real patients

It looks like Doc tore off 1 inch wide paper tape.1:12 In USA I buy the tape at $ Tree & 99cents stores.

Looks like silk tape to me. Most used tape in surgical field for positioning.

Mine is facing downward and causing a callus and numbness under my toes if I go barefoot
Shouldn't go barefoot with a hammer toe or any issues with feet.
