Funny how world change. Came to west as a boy and faced lots of racism as Somali. I even recalled visiting Ghanaian friend his mother stated I wasn't black. Most somali faced the claim we weren't black and now we say we are Somali it bothers others. Somali have always faced racism from other black people even more than we faced from white people. Videos about Somali being ugly or don't date them can easily be found on TH-cam. What other black people have just about realise now is Somali don't care of anyone opinion and hating us made us identify more as Somali.
Somali experience in Africa is constant discrimination compare to other black people who migrate to other countries as we are more visible and we take in our stride and never complain. It made us support one another.
We are not Arab we are cushites and the oldest race and Islam has nothing to do with identifying as Arab we are proud African and Somali. As a matter of fact we were Muslim before 99 percent of the Arabs. Islam reached us before it did Madina so no we are Muslim and proud but not Arab.
We are the original founding member of African Union. We supported Kenya independence, Zimbabwe and even sent troops to Mozambique and Siyad Barre was the only president to attend independence day celebration of Mozambique alongside Samora Michael.
Somalia contribution to African development and struggle has not been acknowledged or appreciated and instead we have always been seen as the others. Somalia stood between Tanzanian and Uganda from 1970-1977 deployed her troops and financed the peace talk between the two countries. We have opposed Apartheid even when offered weapons during our war with Ethiopia to counter Cuba involvement so South Africa could win against them in Angola for what? Whilst African countries rooted for ethiopia against us. Somali know their history we know our influence and shame for the lost 30 years but we growing and resilent people. I have faced the most horrible racism from black people and they reminded me I was Somali. They used to laugh when we listen to bashment or go to black clubs. Girls used to Diss us and there was few of us back then we took it in our stride. The younger gen don't care and their fathers legacy is what form their perception that your Muslim first Somali second and African third. Proud to be all those three and I don't have hate for any race I just prefer to marry my people, proud of my culture and to respect everyone. However we don't have inferiority complex to complain about things.

We do share the same religion Islam with Arabs and some of our culture but my skin is black.
Not all Somalis claim to be Arab, but we have Arab ehtnic minorities just like we have bantu ethnic minorities. Somalia is an African state, but an Arab state in sense its a member of the Arab League. The Arabian Gulf is very close and we share a religion and common values and culture hence why the arabs wanted Somalia to be a member state.
Somalia is similar to Turkey transcontinental country almost . Turkey is Asian yet close proximity to Europe brings a European connection to Turkey hence the argument is Turkey European or Asian.
Beides Somalis traded with Greece to China for centuries , so its a seafaring nation that sees itself not limited in geography, its and outward looking nation.
Ethnic Somalis see themselves as Somalis not as Arab or African or any other label because its a ancient civilization. This terms are new that came from the west and it still didn't catch up with all Somalis , which creates confusion for some Africans.
Somalis are very homogeneous insular when it comes to their cultural preservation similar to the Japanese. Even when overseas their dont always fully assimilate most .
So they are misunderstood, but they dont hate Africa or anybody else .
They see all foreigners as foreign regardless if Asian African European, but they will treat with respect those that treat them with respect.
I think some Africans who believe in a black white race world are often disappointed with them because Somalis don't have such ideology , they don't supoort someone based on their skin colour even if it looks like their own
Even the people that look the closest to us like Ethiopian Eritrean etc we dont support them if they are on the wrong. Those countries hold similar views like Somalis and have no black race ideology because they never question their identity out of confidence because they know who they are.

I feel like a lot of people should do there own research and look into the history of African culture and the different ethnic groups that live within the continent. People don’t realise it but there are over 3,000 different ethnic groups speaking more than 2,100 different languages in all of Africa. Africa isn’t a country like what the media portrays but rather it’s a huge continent with different culture people. It was not until the Quran was revealed to Muhammad that a religion began seriously spreading the belief that everybody is equal, even if they do not adhere to a particular set of religious beliefs. The reasoning for this can be found in the below excerpt from the Quran:

We have them in Uganda as refugees on their way to the US and I tell you, I never thought I'd see racism in my own country, fellow blacks being racist in Africa and I know some of them really look like Arabs. They once told me that 1 Somali is equivalent to 10 Ugandans, those are some of the bravest refugees given the reputation of Uganda. Long story short, the largest native group in the Horn of African nation are an offshoot of the Cushitic race. So they have welcomed and mixed with other races over a long period of time, because of that coastline. So what, so have people many parts in the world.
Somali is a word, which derives from the somali word ‘soo maal’, which means ‘go and milk’. In the past - and still so to some extent - the way of life was pastoralist, which makes sense how popular and user the word ‘soo maal’ has become.
If the question who are the Somalis of the country’s population, the largest native group or the ethnic minorities? Then they are both Somali, since there’s a nation called ‘Somalia’ and the inhabitants are citizens of that nation. If the question is who is ethnically Somali, then it’s anyone who culturally, in feature and genetically share with the tribes who are and were natives of the land, who (again) are in turn an offshoot of the Cushitic family group or race. Can anyone of the Cushitic group be a Somali, no they can’t, the same way a Somali cannot be an Eritrean, Afar or Oromo.

What your failing to understand been Arab is not a race , is rather language and traditional to some extent, Somalis are African brown and black and cushetic people, Arab League is political entity only and is United by Arabic language, Sudan and Camaro Island are also part of Arab League and they are dark skin African brothers so don't mix things, am Somali person and am African black person, they are Arab Somalis who lives the coastal cities and they are the minority.

I'm Ghanaian and Syrian and have a very arab appearance. Because I am part arab and part black I will be treated as a black person. Most Somalis do not have an arab appearance at all because Kushites do not look anything like Arabs. They can be their own people but don't claim arab.
