Somalis were the first dudes that would befriend me and accept me as a young 18 year old Lithuanian immigrant in London back in 2010. It was my first time abroad, I was lonely and knew shit, locals saw me as a foreigner which I obviously was, but Somalis treated me as their own and helped me with so many basics. I was the only white guy around like 10-20 Somalis and everyone always found that amusing, but in a funny and friendly way. Especially when after some years of friendship I would pick up Somali habits like chewing khat, standing in a line of 30 Somalis to the local khat house to pick up bundles for the homies and all the old timer Somalis that would speak little English would always come up and ask how the hell do I even know this thing and so on. We'd go to a Somali restaurant in Hayes - again, only white guy there and the staff would often take no money from me. Hell, even Mali bus drivers would form a bond with me and would not charge me for a ride. Straight up great people, if you befriend them they will not abandon you. Maybe my knowledge of Islam played a part (I am a strict Catholic but I have deep respect for Islam and have read Holy Qur'an twice), and those guys were almost all very religious, but I never felt any disrespect due to my religion.
Shout out to London, Southall, Hounslow, Hayes, Heston!

@@thecomrade9284 Yes, even though we never used the word "gang" as it is cringe af, all the OG Malis would say "we are simply a group of close friends who just so happen to make money together and support each other". There was no specific name, but other ethnic-oriented groups would know us by location, and name of OG's, like "we move with B-Man", or "we move with Diesel and Malis from Heston Lane/Hounslow West". Usually people would know right away when you drop a name of some OG and that would be the end of all questions.
Also in regards to khat, we would only chew it in Friday (in Southall all Malis would gather next to Southall train station on High Street near station parking lot at evening and all different groups of guys would simply chill together, bump music from cars and chew, talk, settle deals and so on. And sometimes we would buy a crate (like a banana box full of bundles of khat) when we would "rent" some drug user's house for a day or two so that we could also be in the house and use it as Americans call it "traphouse". As we would only chew and smoke weed (far from everyone), we would have nothing to do there for like 12-14 hours at some drug user's house so we would stay in the living room, watch movies or just talk, drink green tea and chew khat. It was faaaar from a daily habit.

bro its not always about these kids its who raised them Bro people don't understand how important a father is in a home. In Islam and other religions, it says a father must be in the home to set rules and be strict when needed. This is why I hate deadbeats. Most of the time, these kids don’t have a choice. They grow up in bad places with no father or parents. They are victims of where they live. Don’t say someone is not man enough when there is no man in the home to show them how to be a man.
In many Somali households, parents often pressure their kids, use slurs, and insults at a very young age. This becomes normal for the kids. They start to think it’s normal to say slurs. They might become friends with gangsters at school, smoke weed, smoke cigars, rob stores, and steal things. The child feels like everything falls apart, and they become victims of their parents.

But fortunately I had a lot of older brothers to support me as well as my mum. I’m currently studying medicine at university. I did this because I wanted to and my family helped push me. These teens from Minnesota wanted to be a gangster rapper just like I wanted to be a doctor. If you don’t want them to be a gangster, you should’ve shown them first hand the consequences: death or prison. And that’s the truth. They want to be hard. They didn’t fall, they chose it.

Everything you’ve experienced in your life has led you to where you are. The support you’ve had, people you’ve interacted with, everything you’ve been exposed to, things that had little impact, things that had a large impact, opportunities you were presented with, opportunities that presented themselves, choices you were given, choices you made… the advantage of simply having choices. You had food to eat and resources like housing, transportation, you were provided for, either by your parents your single mother your brothers or the government. so you were able to go to school and you were looked after when you were at home. You had the education and the institutions and rhe resources and the encouragement and the support and the inspiration and the opportunities and all these different pipelines that made it possible for you to be who you are and where you are.
Now remove just one of those, any one. Not having one of those things would be a huge disadvantage.
Your reality is not the same as another person’s. If you were in their shoes, you would not be you, you would be them. You would be just as they are. Do not judge them and don’t think you’re better than them.

#DONTBLAMETHEKIDSBLAMETHEPARENTSWHORAISEDTHEM Bro People don't understand how important a father is in a home.
