He already secure his first teaching job in Dubai so we should move at the end of July. I’m super proud of him to achieve this in later age. So we are watching your videos like mad. This inspires me. I've been teaching for 15 years but only have an early childhood development qualification. I've decided at the age of 38 to pursue my degree in foundation phase education and I was wondering if it might be too late to move to Dubai. I just returned from a holiday there and it's so beautiful. I'm inspired to move for a better life from South Africa.

    How long after you moved to Dubai did you manage to find an accommodation for yourself? I know you had to wait for the Emirates ID so where did you have to stay during that time you waited?

    Great video, thank you for sharing all that info. It was very interesting to hear the differences between teaching in Dubai and England. Here in the US (at least in Michigan) elementary/primary students have one special a day inc. art, music, PE/gym and STEM (science, technology, engineering and maths). Some schools have specialist rooms for some or all of those subjects but in other schools for specials (except PE) the teachers travel from classroom to classroom to teach their subject. Are you planning on moving to any other countries to teach?

  • @RagingMist
    @RagingMist 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Hi Thomas, thanks a lot for the video. I had a few questions if you could answer please. There's quite a few adverts for teachers training in UAE. They are specifically looking for STEM graduates. It's a 2 year contract, no experience necessary, teacher training paid for, £41k a year including accommodation allowance. Seems a too good to be true as it's more or the same as a qualified teacher. Do you have any idea about these schemes? What is average rent per month? General maintenance costs (food, bills). I'm weighing up whether to train in Dubai or do PGCE in England for Maths.

  • @Immy01

    I'm applying for a PGDE this year in the UK and I'll get to choose whether I want to get into EYFS or general primary. I do want to work in Dubai after a couple years but I've read somewhere that those who go down the Early Years route won't be able to work outside of the UK because other countries don't recognise it. So, I was told to consider the general primary route. Can I please have your advice or opinion on this? Is it true?
    (Sorry for the long comment!)

      Hi Thomas, so glad I have stayed upon your TH-cam channel. Do you have a video about the planning and expectations of teachers? I have been speaking to a few girls who are currently teaching in Dubai and have said that it is very full on. I'm also from Scotland and I am aware they teach the English curriculum which is quite different from the Scottish. Do the long hours and high expectations pay off for the lifestyle? It is something I have been thinking about for a few years now.

      @@lundimardi1975 I'm so sorry. Life for LGBTQ folks in Dubai is tough as they risk jail time and deportation if caught.

      No. Homosexuality is illegal in Dubai. Unless you want to keep your sexuality a secret and live like a monk don't do it. It's not worth the risk.
