    Excited to share another chapter with you guys ❤️ Will I still be living Bali? Of course it’s still my home, however, priorities shift as we get older and I’m excited to work on building my businesses. 📌 Keep in mind I am sharing my personal perspective and experience living here thus far and cannot comment on things that I have not personally experienced.

    I used to live there. Well, in Abu Dhabi I will say this…there’s a lot of crime going on behind the scenes. I also didn’t like the way they treated certain immigrants (Africans, and people from other Asian countries). The government is pretty oppressive and the laws GREATLY FAVOR THEIR CITIZENS!! All that glitters isn’t gold. Please keep that in mind.

    My brother in law lived in Dubai for many years and we visited him there. The only sad thing is the oppressive government, sexism, extreme homophobia and the slave trade. Theres some good documentaries that show the other side of Dubai. Those things turn me off from going there again and investing my money there. Similar reasons why I would never go to Russia in the past. You did a great job of outlining your reasoning for moving there and I hear you on all things. Just good to be aware of the other issues in Dubai and the UAE.

My nail tech was from Kenya and hasn't seen her 7yr old daughter in 3 years, our security guard from Nigeria and our driver from Pakistan had never met their babies in person. They were not allowed to go home in years. Lastly, the driver lost his child and the emotional pain he feels never having met her...

    I lived in Dubai for 17 years and left recently to move to Thailand. It all looks shiny and nice from the outside but the reality of living there is different. Cost of living is way too high. Most landlords want the rent payment in one or two cheques for the entire year. No VPN or what's app calling is allowed. Only two telecom service providers and one worse than the other with sky high rates to call internationally. If you don't have medical insurance then you are basically going to go bankrupt due to high costs. Everything is controlled and regulated by the ruling family. Which means if you buy a car or a laptop - you end up paying more money than rest of the world as the prices are decided by the government. Yes it is safe and no one harasses you. But if you are not earning high salary you will scrape by with no savings ever. If you do buy property, you can never sue the developer for delays or defaulting. Everything and everyone is connected to the ruling family. And did I mention horrible human rights record? Visit labour camps in Sonapur and Sharjah to see how the laborers from third world countries live. These guys have built the city that we so admire but they live in shadows and in utter poverty. Spend few years and you will realize that you were better off in Bali! Women have no rights in case of a divorce if married to a muslim man and same sex relationships are banned. As long as you earn and spend there, you are welcome. the day you loose your job, your visa will be cancelled and you will be asked to leave. No foreigner gets a local passports or citizenship even after spending an eternity in UAE and contributing to the economy. you will always remain an outsider no matter how much money you spend. Enjoy few years and move on.

      This is the REAL Dubai! Thank you for spelling out the truth. Everybody talks about how safe it is, but they gloss over the reason why. Misdemeanors could cost you your life! I also read that speaking against the ruling class is forbidden & you could get arrested & sentence harshly for doing so. 🤫🤫🤔🤔

      Doesn’t sound all that bad. Nowhere is perfect, most people don’t mind being covered and not everybody is Lgbtq. Gotta follow the laws seems like people call everything with laws oppressive but it’s not as bad compared to other countries. And why get married just to divorce? Stop trying to scare people away. What works for you won’t work for someone else and vice versa. There’s a reason people are going to Dubai. It’s just like America the citizens complain dismissing how much better they have it compared to other countries meanwhile people are fleeing their own countries to come to America. Nowhere is perfect. Try something new enjoy life or make it work where you’re from.

    I lived in Dubai and Abu Dhabi. Loved it!!! Wish that we were still there. It is very safe!!! Ive seen children playing in parks at night alone, someone in a mall in Abu Dhabi approached me and said that he liked my shoes and wanted to take a picture of them, immediately the mall security was on the case!! Ive dropped a receipt when I bought gold in one store and the store manager walked the entire mall looking for me to return it to me! The food is great! There's so much to do and Id highly recommend living there if you have a job offer or an online job that pays very well. Cost of living is very expensive as your potential employer would usually pay for your housing.

    Oh Wow. I first discovered you when you were showing your home in Bali , now you are in Dubai. I live and work in Saudi Arabia in the Healthcare industry and I want to transition into working remotely in Dubai. May I add, as someone who has lived in a No-tax country for nearly 4 years , as an American people need to know, even if you don't pay tax , The IRS still wants some of it and if you make, i can't remember the exact number, over 100,000.00 US apx dollars, you have to pay taxes to US government. Unfortunately. I'm sure there is some loop hole people use to avoid this bit it is law, FYI

      You’re right! I was looking to see if someone would mention this. You find out the hard way, US citizens aren’t allowed the rights most everyone else has.
      If I may ask, how much does your accountant charge to do the paperwork for American taxes? Mine estimates it’ll be up to $20k just to do taxes abroad! Scares the heck out of me. If you have any recommendations for more affordable accountants, I’d sincerely appreciate it.

    • @Chidi_Ashley
      @Chidi_Ashley  2 ปีที่แล้ว +18

      Totally right📌I’m not a U.S citizen but I definitely have come across this - US citizens do still need to report their worldwide income to the IRS always best to get an accountant or advisor to make sure you have covered all bases but for other individuals the no income tax is a huge benefit ❤️

      @AngelasTravelAdventures 2 ปีที่แล้ว +16

      @@oliviamatthew4516 I never pay that much ever, 20K?! Please find someone else, that is ridiculous! My situation may be different, I'm single, no kids and no real liabilities (mortgage etc). I purposefully, stay under the 100,000 mark and use Turbotax or similar to do my taxes. If you are a business owner etc it may be a little more challenging, I'm not sure but I file every year, as an expat you get a little more time to do so, and haven't had to pay the IRS one red cent! 🤣 I'll ask around about accountants, there are people that have been here nearly 20 years, I'm sure they have some information I'd be able to share.

Don’t go out or be out certain times of the night. If your on a visa or change citizenship research everything. Hey welcome to Dubai!
    In terms of security and safety. I can confirm you will feel 100% safe here. Crime is LOW even in terms of petty crime.
    You may have already seen that it's so safe here, people leave their mobile phones, pocketbooks, (I think americans call them? lol) car keys, on their table at restaurants while they go to the buffet. At coffee shops you can leave your laptop on your table and go shop and come back, and find it untouched. People actually leave their phones and bags on tables to mark that it's taken ! It's THAT safe.
    And yes, women are VERY safe here because the punishments are swift. So women walk alone , late at night with no fear and no hecklers, or guys disturbing them in any way. It's just not done here.
    One thing to remember as well. Because the majority of people here are expats, the crime rate is low because some crimes can lead to heavy fines, imprisonment and deportation with a ban from returning.

      It is rather lovely here, safety for me is the main selling factor. If you decide to move consider these; if you have a family, schools can be rather expensive, if you use the school bus system, that is costly as well, accommodations near the Burj can be really expensive as well. If you decide to live further away, the commute for an affordable place maybe a bit much. Depending on your company they may offer housing and school allowance.
