The growth part is important. The best part of dubai, singapore etc is that the people are all focussed on growth - people are trying to chase their dreams. They say you are the average of 5 people you surround yourself with. Being around a society that chases growth will eventually influence you in good ways.
Anyone's whose main focus is just growth are best kept as a casual acquaintance only. You can't rely on this kind of person if you're ever in need of a simple favour/help?
The government gets things done. Obviously they don’t have lawyers holding up construction projects, people refusing to sell their land. Once they decide, projects are done fast.
I've lived in the UAE and Dubai specifically for 19 years now. Ex London and Birmingham, am very happy and safe here, yes the summer gets warm, but I'd rather have the heat than the damp grey skies of the UK any time.
@@pthak9270 Good job I live in the mountains way north of Dubai now and ony venture there when I have too the. The air is very clean here, sadly still dusty, but not polluted.
I've been in Dubai for 8 years now. I used to love it, but the quality of the people coming lately is lower than before, and this impacts the overall feel and class of the place. Genuinely talented expats are getting priced out, and there just aren't as many financial incentives (other than zero income tax) as there were before, because most people don't need to be "convinced" to move here as much as they did previosuly. (Inventives for those wondering would be things like housing transport allowances and shareholdings, etc. which were commonly very high a few years ago). The pollution is also insane, partly because of the number of cars that have come, rising by about a million each year! Also, Dubai burns its landfills and has no sustainable way of getting rid of biowaste and garbage. So for 8 months of the year in "summer" the lack of wind to blow away nasty fumes means Dubai is consistently in the top 10 worst polluted cities in the world, with thousands of deaths caused by pollution each year, listed among other developing countries where you'd think Dubai should not belong. BUT, I'm still bloody here! That's because I agree Europe is in the past and slowly falling apart, so I'm in a total dilemma in terms of where to go.

The major problem I have with these Gulf countries is that your salary is pre determined by your Passport. If you're not a westerner, you'll get paid alot less. Unless you're an entrepreneur, then it don't matter where you're from.
Because they want to keep you, so they offer the double of your gross income for your old position. They will not offer someone from India the double salary of someone from UK, it doesn't make any sense.
@@The_Unexplainerit makes perfect sense. The UK citizen and the Indian citizen are both living in the same place (Dubai) so why should they be paid differently for doing the same job?
@@coolrunnings5383 because the Indian guy will feed his entire village and community with that salary if he’s payed as much as the uk guy, while the uk guy will only feed his family with his salary doubled. The growth part is super critical and a lot of people simply don't comprehend it, or understimate its value. As a Brit, the UK has a clear culture of "traditional complacency." Where we keep around what's "old" and simply patch over it if it breaks, resulting in a lot of really inefficient, overly complex, and unreliable foundations to society. Pweople are more concerned with preserving what they have left, rather than growing and building, and it's extremely depressing for people like me. The world is moving on and leaving the west behind, and we in the west have this misconception that the pedigree of our countries and cultures is enough. It isn't. Our cities are old and stagnating, while being full of crime. Dubai is far from perfect, but I think it's the best choice an international citizen has for a safe and secure future.
Very well said my friend, it is a shame indeed. It's iinteresting from a historical perspective how this culture of complacency has developed and now it is really hurting Europe, and esp UK.
It’s okay not to change or grow things for the sake sometimes. It’s okay for things to reference tradition and subtly change overtime. I’m not from the west, but I have visited Some European cities and I don’t think they are stagnant places. I personally like that they have strong reference to their history but at the same time I see lots of advancements that are in place to benefit people based on our times. These cities are leaders in many advancements in transportation, sustainability, arts and culture, technology etc and in a way do it in a very practical manner that isn’t all about making the next big thing. I appreciate that, if I’m being honest. Much more that the culture of doing big things for the sake of it.
Preserving the past structures n build modern amenities are plus point. The old n new intertwine with one another, thats what everybody can n like to see in some countries where Britain hs it influences in the past century😊
i recently visited Dubai. Its a clean developed country, however for all the hype i would not want to settle down here. Housing rent is expensive, traffic is bad especially during rush hours, everything is expensive here. Spoke to some local immigrants and they said things are expensive and they dont save any money, they cant bring in their family, the only reason they are sticking around here is that they no other options as back home in their home country they have a high rate of unemployment. unless one has a high paying job you are ok, otherwise its not affordable or feasible to live here long term. With the hype about Dubai made people come here, however the city i saw as is over crowded
The UAE in general is a great place to live and work. I live in Abu Dhabi, and am very happy to be able to live and raise a family here. It is safe. There are things to do, good schools, good weather (although summer is brutal), great transport connections, every type of food you want (both geographically and economically - with high end restaurants to cheap street eats). If I need a service (car mechanic, plumber, electrician, IT or whatever else you can think of), I can get it done - and usually quickly, and cheaper than in europe. Taxis are affordable. Hotels are plentiful and affordable. Service in shops/restaurants is great.... happy days

Few points I must say so people get the full picture. I lived there for years and yes, it is safe and nice IF you go where the westerners are located. Don't believe me, have a look at some stats on sa... You will pay 1st world prices for 3rd world services and products. If you're an outdorrsie kinda person the uae IS NOT the place for you. If you like shopping and hanging out at cafes, it's for you. It really is expensive and the traffic is horrible. HORRIBLE!! you will always need to live close to work, so factor that in. Overall, it is a nice country and I love the locals (what emiraties call themselves). If they keep the standards they have now, I would say there are so many pros. Even tho I have stated some cons. And remember, you're in a place with a lot of sand, what health issues can that lead to... lung cancer. The most common form of cancer. So if you do it, be smart. Best of luck
I disagree, they are polite but pretty arrogant . And as a foreigner you will never really blend in with them or let in their groups . Omanis are different

He can’t. I know people who criticised Dubai on social media and literally got deported the day after. Here is an honest review from someone who is traveling there quite often: Dubai is nice for 6 months but terrible during spring and summer. Another negative that in recent years it attracts quite a few dodgy people (see many crypto people, Russians, etc). Prostitution is big - just have a look at the lobby of any hotels (doesn’t even need to be a high end hotel). Dating life is terrible there, so is traffic and the superficiality of people. Positives are the wages (which most people spend in all entirety anyways because of the lifestyle), the period of autumn-winter, the services and the food.
Because he can’t and know this will get him in trouble. Furthermore he at this from a westerners perspective and ignorant to people whose passports get withheld by their employers and mistreated because of their passport.

Thanks for the insights. I think Singapore is probably a better compromise for many people. It also has a growth mindset with low taxes and the possibility of a lavish lifestyle. But at the same time it’s not as strict when it comes to things like alcohol, religion and freedom of sexuality that westerners are so used to (except dont smuggle weed or they’ll literally hang you lol). It also has a stable temperature all year round, not too hot, not too cold and virtually no crime. The biggest downside lately I think is cost of living, the rental prices went thru the roof in the last few years, making it harder to start out.

Great recap. And respect for your truthful analysis of EU - that’s why TH-cam, Apple, Google, FB, etc are US - Euros who are born into the right families and get educated take the easy route. Dubai was based on Singapore as far as law and order. I’ve been visiting for a long time - but always Nov - March. In the summer my friends say you exercise (run tennis, football) outside at 6AM or 10PM. But there are plenty of indoor gyms for staying in shape in the hot months. Didn’t scroll all the way down - but we Americans only have to pay tax on wages over $125k/yr. Still ridiculous but not that bad. And that can be avoided by setting up a company, as you said the bar is much higher, then pay yourself a salary below $125k.
I worked in Dubai for 10 years and made a good amount of money. Because I earned USD without income tax, I would have had to work 21.5 years to make the same amount of money in CAD if I were working in Canada.
Can you please make a video on how much money or income do you need to live a comfortable lifestyle in Dubai, breaking down all the expenses like rent, groceries, healtchcare, leisure, etc?
France has the best balance of weather. Dubai is too hot in summer. It will get worse. Finland is too cold! Walking is what i enjoy. Locals in dubai not always respectful. Its still their country.

Was there for 9 years and it really does depend on who you are, what you do, and where you're from. Whilst cost is relative to your earnings, without a doubt, Dubai is not value for money and has gotten worse. That goes for food and beverage and service in almost every industry. As I said, if your nationality restricts you from choosing any country, then Dubai may be an option, but otherwise, there are many many countries that are better value for money, better weather, lifestyle, travel and better for doing business and establishing a company.

It is admirable that Dubai is trying to become a place that attracts people with a growth mindset, but let's be real: the startups that are changing the world are not coming out of Dubai, and it is also not really where the most succesful startups decide to relocate to. I do wish Western countries would copy some of Dubai's strictness about behaving politely in public spaces. We tolerate too many noisy and aggressive people who are under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
Having Sunny Weather all the time is not always a good thing. Infact some of the most violent places on earth are hot climates. I think you need a balance of what the winter can bring you also. As a Finnish person you should know how good it feels walking through a forest in the Winter and tasting that fresh & healthy air.
That's a nonsensical point, the UAE is not a violent place so it doesn't matter if some other hot places are violent. That's like saying "some violent people wear shoes, therefore it's not always good to wear shoes". I know exactly how good it feels walking through a forest in the Winter and I hate it with a passion.
I would like to agree that we have a choice in regard to the place we live, so we wouldn't need to stay where we born, it happens that some us simply don't have much of a choice. In your case, you are European, born in one of the most developed countries, like Finland, having a strong EU or British passport is going to make everything easier. I have been trying to leave my country for a couple of years now and had visa rejections with the following argument basically: Your visa was denied due to the political situation of your country and the region, is not about you. So is not just a ridiculous mindset, there are many other factors playing a role when moving out of your country, and believe me, I'm not happy with the taxes, the security or the opportunities in my country, and sadly I can't just pack and sail away like I would want.
"Paris London they look to the past all they have is their past their history which is amazing but what Dubai does and what cities in the Middle East and a lot of cities in Asia do they look to the Future. I'm from Salvador, Brazil, a city where is summer 365 days a year, sun all the time and hot, but less than Dubai, and I left because I just cannot deal with 365 days of sun and warm weather, you just have no peace, no cozy day ever. That's the main reason I would never live in Dubai: I've been there 4 times and I could not spend more than 15 minutes outside, away for air conditioning. This is hell for me. But it's very interesting to see almost and exact opposite point of view. Cool video 👏🏽
My brother lived in Las Vegas for a few years. He said you get sick of the same hot sunny weather every day. No change of seasons, no rain, just the glaring sun every single day.
Safety in the Emirates is tied to the immigration policy, everyone in Dubai is employed, if you are unemployed you can be swiftly deported. There are strict conditions on the way people arrive in Dubai and Doha etc, this is thus a way to limit criminality, poverty etc.

Feel the same way. Have you tried Asia, HK, Singapore, KL? Lots of the good bits of Dubai there

Way back in the sixties, I was in a small team that surveyed (hydrograpic) this area, it was a proper desert. I often wondered who this survey was for, I now know, and what a beautiful area. Great video.
wow, very interesting!
The major problem I have with these Gulf countries is that your salary is pre determined by your Passport. If you're not a westerner, you'll get paid alot less. Unless you're an entrepreneur, then it don't matter where you're from.
I don't have experience with this but yeah I have heard this and yeah it's not perfect in every aspect yet.
It has nothing to do with nationality. It has to do with where you previously lived and what was your previous salary. So if the indian guy moves to uk find a job and then move to uae, he will get same deal as the original uk guy.
@@The_Unexplainer uh huh - so if an Indian guy and a British guy (working at the same company, same job) are both caught speeding on sheikh zayed road, will the British guy have to pay a higher fine because his salary is higher?

Hello everyone, who here thinks that it's a good idea to start a blog about what it’s like living in the UAE (since it’s my country) and so many people around the world want to move here whether it’s with their families or moving their company to Dubai.
But a lot of them don’t know what life is like here lot’s false beliefs and misconceptions about the place.
I could educate and inform them on what they should expect if they really want to move here.
Let me know your thoughts and feedback on this

Growth based on what? that is important
i recently visited Dubai.

Why do you think Brits spend so much time getting drunk in pubs? The weather is too bad to be outside. And for all the garbage about how great it is to live in N EU, the winters with such short days leads to a lot of depression.

You didn’t actually talk about any of the negatives, doesn’t really seem like an ‘honest’ review to me
He is commenting from a privileged western perspective when he is fully aware of how poor people from the third world gets treated there.
Been in Dubai for over 30 years. Best place in the world.
Depends on who you are in the social class
Isn't it very uncomfortable between may and september? And there is no nature except desert. I was there this year for one week. I really enjoyed many thinks but I could hardly imagine to live there for years. By the way: 30 years ago Dubai wasn't more than a fisherman's village, wasn't it?
Indeed, things change @@StefanGraz - also, just travel between May and September to cooler places.

Growth is good and all, and I understand people and places that fully dedicate themselves to that. However for me, there’s somethings that I care for obsessively and focus on but I don’t think a total obsession with growth is mentally healthy. It’s okay not to be perfect or the best.
Yo rents in Dubai are mental these days. I don't ever remember it being this expensive. It's like new York prices
Nowhere near New York prices - www.numbeo.com/cost-of-living/compare_cities.jsp?country1=United+States&city1=New+York%2C+NY&country2=United+Arab+Emirates&city2=Dubai

It is aggregated from user input (not just yours) - NYC is 2x more expensive on average, you need to compare apples to apples, ie upscale Manhattan areas To Dubai Marina/Downtown. You can find tons of cheap places outside the best areas.
What a wonderful video. Hope that you have had a good time and a pleasant stay in Dubai.
I hope that you will find KL a good place to be your base as a digital nomad. Unlike Dubai, KL is a very green city with lots of greenery areas, parks, gardens, forests etc.

The fact that respect is a big deal makes me feel like I live in the wrong country,I can’t wait to go.
I was nicely smiling hearing all the stuff about the weather. I am coming from a Nordic country and now are based in a southern because of work. And I truly miss Nordic weather, rain, gray sky where you want to light up candles, I even miss winters. I gosh I hate too much sun and heat.
Finland was mentioned and it was my dream to move from Greece to Finland to experience snowy winters and nature with expanded forests and lake. If Dubai can simulate nature and fix its weather to have all 4 seasons it might sound like the perfect city in the world
Thanks for the insights.
Fully agree, I am love with Singapore too. For many people it can also be a better choice because they have better salaries for normal jobs as far as I know
No one mentions COE for owning a car?
I'm only two thirds of the way through the video but you already got me convinced where I wanna live next! The only thing I found difficult when I was there on holiday was not showing affection in public (although I understand why), otherwise, would love to live there!

It is strategically located in trade routes linking east west and south and has huge blue economy potential too. Turkey has signed 10 year deal to protect it's coast mainland Africa longest coastline with pristine white sand beaches and good climate. Somalia is one of the last place in the world with lots of unoccupied beaches .

Curate your own reality. I like that.
