  • In this video, I answer a very common question which is how much it costs to build an 800whp STi like mine. Hopefully this helps! Feel free to ask questions in the comments.

    😅😅😅. Man I got a hell of a deal with my build. Think the total was around 34k, but I had a ton of help with discounts. Build happened during 2020 so it took around 9 months ( which is still fast ) but I don’t have near the looks and bling in the engine bay. My only downside was the clutch we tested, and I’m currently on my 3rd broken transmission. This year I’m going to go with the IAG 1-4 straight cut gear set and a triple disc clutch.

    K and n makes hydriphobic intake socks. I dyno'd with it on and still made 760. Just some added peace of mind for water getting to the intake. I got limited by a 3port ebcs and 4bar map sensor.

    I bought and built my 08 WRX hatch for about $26K in 2021-2022. IAG500 long block, VF52 turbo, 300+whp and over 350ftlbs conservatively on 22psi. I call it my grandpa daily. 😆 My only regret was due to limited funds... and that was to get an STI the first time around for the beefy drivetrain.

    • @ivtec4fun55

      @@Craiggg12345 Yea that 20G offers more HP up top and softer torque early on. With the little vf52 I can make 22psi below 3000rpm but I moved that up to 3300 due to some vibrations that occur under 3000 at that boost level.

    • @JonHop1
      @JonHop1 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@josiahbeauvais6515 Thats the point, 99% of people dont... I dont know about you, but I have a wife, 4 kids, and I work 6 days a week. In order to maintain a Subaru or Rotary properly, it entails a LOT of time and modification to make them reliable and last. Time and money most people just dont have. Both Rotaries and EJ's have factory engineering flaws that have modern aftermarket solutions now which is nice, but they still need to be babied and monitored super closely. This is why Honda's are so beloved in more impoverished areas because they take little to no maintenance, and can be beaten on and modded like crap yet still be reliable lol.

    • @josiahbeauvais6515
      @josiahbeauvais6515 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@JonHop1 just because 99 percent of ppl don’t know how to take care of cars doesn’t make a car reliable or not, now don’t get me wrong Honda of course are more reliable in every way, but Subarus are boxers you can’t compare them, but I have had my 2006 Sti last wayyyy longer then my turbo b18, its always the owner and it doesn’t take that much effort to maintain a car my guy yeah on a Honda you can redline it w no oil and still get home from work but that’s sets such an unrealistic idea for a reliable car, like I said I have had way more problems on my b seres then my ej has ever given me

    • @JonHop1
      @JonHop1 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@josiahbeauvais6515 Bud, Im not comparing them from an engineering standpoint, Im making a simple point, that Subaru's incredibly expensive and tedious to maintain compared to most cars.. This is just factual. They are indeed a money pit, even when maintained properly. For example, my STI.. Had the car built and tuned by the best of the best in the country in California. Spent over $35,000 just to attain a "reliable" 450whp.. The car blew up in 1 month. And this was a built block. And this wasnt anyone's fault. The EJ is just a motor that is like that, that can break at any time and fail at any time. Its just not a great motor for power and reliability. And again, Im not that guy thats gonna sit here and say because I have had a Subie last or fail, that says anything.. It doesnt.. My experience means nothing.. Fact is, my experience is just incredibly common, whereas having significant problems with a B or K series is not.. B and K series, on average, are probably the best 4-cylinder factory motors every designed and engineered EVER.

      @@JonHop1 that’s why some people like them…. We like maintaining and spending time with our cars… i do oil checks every 2 days ( if I’m driving to work, ETC) i find joy in making sure my fluids are “perfect” and inspecting the engine bay… it’s my time to “relax”
