Now imma gonna get super technical about the Falcon used in Mad Max. There were two engines used, one was blower OFF, one ON. The OFF engine may or may not have been Ford with the blower gutted and the carb inside. The ON engine was not a Ford but a built, supercharged Pontiac. The switch on the shifter was for a line lock.

You could do this on a twin screw blower, but then the intake would come out the front or back unlike the top like originally. Be so cool if someone could get it to work. Maybe a jacket around the outside of the blower that lets air bypass the screws when its not running.
Wow! That thing's ALIVE! It is sitting on top of a 351 Cleveland, isn't it? My brother has an '08 Shelby that came with today's equivalent of the 427 Cobra Jet and it too is supercharged. It's identical to this one except that technology has done away with that intimidating looking scoop in favor of a hidden intake that snakes over to the grill. The car is almost frightening to drive! It's just under 800 hp and that's factory. NOTHING on that car is aftermarket and it's signed by Carroll Shelby himself! There were 2,000 of these made and each one has an aluminum plate on the dashboard where Shelby took a regular black 'sharpy' and signed them. He's a bit smarter than most people I know and he really takes great care with the car. I took it out on route 70 here in Maryland where there's plenty of straight away to open it up and..when you do, you hear what you hear here - that tell tale hiss of the charger kicking in. Out on 70, I 'd get to about 65/75 then I'd feel it before I heard it! It throws you back against the seat from the g-force and that whistling jumps that speedo to 120/130 instantly. When I say "smart" about my brother I mean that in a few ways. He's a big ragtop fan. I'm not. like a hard top fastback myself and he, my dad and myself have always had GT's in the garages. We're just partial to Mustangs. But, because of the ragtop and that monster growing under the hood, he needed a roll bar which he promptly put in before even taking it out after the initial payment of...$44,000 - in cash, no less. He took a bus up to N.Y. and bought it, then had the bar installed at the dealer before he enjoyed that 4 hour drive back. I know how it feels when you get that nice new GT and ya love shifting those gears with a nice tight clutch. So, I can imagine how elated he must have felt driving it back to DC..well, Frederick actually but.. that's where 70 is and, lucky for BOTH of our lead footed asses that we have a state trooper in the family that's had to "talk us out" of a few tight spots with his fellow officers. Now, everybody knows us and they don't even hassle us anymore. In their own words: "Why even bother? Do you really think we'd be able to catch you once that blower kicked in? Wasta time. Have a nice day, fellas." It's a GT 500 in the white with red pin striping and, yes it's a Cobra. Like I said, it's an '08 so I'm curious as to how many are ACTUALLY still around and garage kept like his. My dad's was the '84 20th anniversary edition with tee tops in the same color scheme as my brother's but it didn't house that huge ass block big bro has. His was the 302 and still a blast to drive! Before he passed away (w/o giving the 84 to either of us - dammit!) he checked online to see how many were registered in the U.S. Out of a total of 5,000 for that run, less than 2,000 were left and that was in 03. Now? Who knows. Rich parents get them for their Yale puke son's that just take out and roll em, probably k*lling a few innocent people along the way, ya know? But, that's the truth actually. The online stats tell the whole story on each and every one of those. That's not a Chevy Chevette you're reporting on, dig? Those were so limited that, out of all the U.S. dealers only half got ONE if you knew the right person to have one sent - if possible. My dad was friends with the finance manager (John Cooper, who would later become my immediate boss) at Academy Ford and all three of us were part of the yearly Mustang shows they'd host because we all had nice cars - that, naturally came from Academy anyway so. My brother didn't always have that Shelby obviously but he's had quite a few GT's and so have I. My latest was a 2001 in zinc yellow and torch thrust rims in chrome..all flat yellow so it was really easy on the eyes and for a long time, it was MINE that the girls wanted to go for a ride in and mine came with ram air already installed by the factory. I had to order that myself. They came 'set up' for it but not with it so if you did want one later on, it was very easy to install it, right on top and no cutting the bonnet or hood required. Same air cleaner as my brother's Shelby set up. Mine also had the raised hood, like a low profile scoop which is essentially what it equates to. I never popped out the 'honey comb' though. I've always tried to keep my cars in their original state. "customizing". Huh! Leave the car the way it was meant to look like! People always gotta 'break new ground' n shit by adding those "Tiajuana flames" down the side of a Toyota Celica like something out of Tokyo Drift n shit. Leave it alone or, feed the powerplant! Wanna do something useful, do like Han Solo did to that other famous Falcon: "..she may not look like much but she's got it where it counts!" Well said!

This sound is a much better wake me up than a hot cup of coffee in the early morning before the work commute, 'nuff said, no question.
DREAMMMMM
Fake blower kit? I'm curious bout this one. Ive seen lot of fake blowers on mad max cars
Movie correct
@@brycejohnson144 ok now I'm very curious how this worked lol. I'm so use to seeing blower pulley move as its running. Google here i come lol
Maybe its not fake boi
@@GuninGames yeaaaa thats kinda why there's a question mark after 3 words lol.
It's just a electric clutch that when the solenoid is activated it uses magnets to clamp the clutch to then spin the supercharger. But when it's not running it's just a big restriction. So it's pointless
Does a good job keeping the engine cool...... Sitting above it like that.. electric clutch to engage... PTO..
I mean the blower works,, it's just not feeding the engine. It's blowing on top of it is all.... No forced induction..
Wow listen 2 that hypnotic sound i love it when the supa charga whistles 😂😂😂
Lots of people in comments don't understand blower vs NA engine construction. We all agree blowers are cool, mad max is awesome, leave it alone. Movie magic doesn't always translate to real life
Mad Max - oh, yeah! What a classic iconic awesome movie with a equally classic iconic awesome Australian Ford Falcon with a blower.
With or without blower, sounds amazing! ❤
Converted a/c clutch was used to turn on and off the simulated blower
The Gyro Captain would APPROVE!
Being able to turn it on when u want it , turn off when u don’t need it , to save fuel is mostly the reason , to keep wear down on that blower
I never seen one in real life that supercharger awesome huh ,thxmanny
It makes sense because I can run my 3800 m90 with and without the blower belt on with no issues. This is awesome because you don’t have to add a belt for boost.
Ok, didn’t even realize that a blower could be switched-on-off via a similar to ac compressor? I’m slow on the tech of “blowers” but so cool to be enabled to go with/without option of boost… cool😊
I'm in a coma man, I love it !
mechanic: so how much dirt do you want your engine to breath?
owner: yes
In reality the turning off the blower could actually be functional with and opening valve between the blower body and the carb it’s feeding into rather than on top of it
There's no carbs
The 351 Clevo, what a brilliant, proven motor.
If you use your eyes , it looks as if the blower housing is floating . Just a fancy air filter
Wow this just took me to my childhood. I saw this movie when I was 4 years old 1983, and I could vividly remember my father and and my godfather laughing and calling that blower switch bullshit. Of course I didn't understand why but I knew it was bullshit.
Oh my this sounds amazing. Wish my truck would sound like this
th-cam.com/video/nFmobE3LMZM/w-d-xo.html This one sounds Better!
You could do this on a twin screw blower, but then the intake would come out the front or back unlike the top like originally. Be so cool if someone could get it to work. Maybe a jacket around the outside of the blower that lets air bypass the screws when its not running.
Hmmm, it's kool how the blower runs when it feels like running lol. The engine fires up as the blower belt stays at a stand still lol
I have always loved that blower hat shape. It’s awesome that you can activate it like the movie and it even has some internals so gear wine. Hell yeah
Its not "gear whine" you're hearing. Its the sound of the air being sucked in and compressed by the rotors.
Its for show, people. Even though not a functional blower, it still is cool as hell!
Yeah baby! Thats what we've been waiting for!
If you notice when blower clutch drive is active and he or she revs it up blower belt also matches revs. It's not fake it's a ECM fuel injected motor. ECM would never be able to start motor with blower active.
Услада, для глаза, песня для ушей. В этих тачках. Живёт душа.
I can't stop watching this iconic engine. 👍
Max must have been a bad ass mechanic to keep that thing going on the road for years 😮
Look at that beautiful WELAND super charger woowee
