Exebiel it's amazing how consistently spectacular the ost is. My tinnitus started acting up and my first thought was "well If I go deaf I already heard the nier soundtrack so it's not all bad." It's so fucking good

In terms of games, early 2017 is an embarrassment of riches. I was so worried games I looked forward to like Nioh, Nier Horizon,, etc... would ultimately be mediocre but instead we are getting great title after great title. That Nier even got a sequel is insane, that it got a sequel made by PlatinumGames is a goddamn miracle. It's times like these that remind me why I love this hobby.
Luckily it seems like it will be a great year for games. At least I hope so. Everything will be good. Although I have only recently rekindled my passion for all things game related. I don't feel too excited for any games besides Nier so I really am depending on that game to be good. All right. Good luck.
I went from "looks like fan service for pantsu shotu loving animufags" to "the gameplay of the demo is so neat and engaging, have to buy the game" then to "what an awesome story telling and world building" and ended up with "I must buy OST and artbook". Waiting for the artbook to arrive and doing the second walkthrough.
For voice, I highly, highly, highly recommend the Japanese voice for 2B. Even with saying pretty much the same thigs, her entire character is different.
it sold quite well in japan(186k first week), so 1-2mil worldwide is definitely possible depending how much west likes it, we will know lots more on monday after the 10th march since official uk charts show up.
Finally someone mentioned it! I could literally stare at it for a whole day and not have enough of it. I need it as a looped animated background or something... BTW all animations seem to be very dynamic and smooth, beautiful!
Bought this game for the pantsu and Platinum action, 45 hours later and with the True Ending unlocked, I am completely in love. The story and presentation is amazing. It's my favourite game of this generation that at the same time I can't recommend for everyone because of how quirky it is.

Seems like a great game but it has a terrible release date. A lot of people don't even know it exists. .This game will get almost completely overshadowed by Horizon, Mass Effect, and Zelda.
Already top seller on Steam and has already sold 200k in Japan making it the number 1 game at the moment which doesn't sound like a lot but is really REALLY good for Japan sales. Nier and by extension Platinum have a good strong following so I have a feeling it's gonna sell well.
I just gotta tell you karak, I don't think I've ever watched one of your reviews without literally laughing out loud at least once. Thanks for that and cheers!
I kind of figured this game will eventually become a hidden gem among fans, I find it sad seeing this game on shelves fully stocked. this game is amazing!
I really like how you're review games. Just how you go in depth of everything, to trying to understand a game. You just sound like a natural. I'm really glad I subscribed to you.
I couldn't expect any less from such colaboration. Yoko Taro's games have always had the gameplay dragging down the great story, so when Platinum came to take care of that part i knew this game would be good.
IMHO this game stands out among endless cookie cutter games being made now. I am so happy for companies willing to a chance on games, this game is a gem among tons of fools gold.
It seems like some of the inspiration comes from Metal Gear Rising, a little in the fighting, a little in the menus. It looks nice but damn, unfortunate that so many other "more popular" AAA games are right before it; i.e Horizon: Zero Dawn, Zelda, Mass Effect, Ghost Recon etc.
Yea, and that's on top of the games people might already be playing. It would be nice not to have to go to school, work or socialize in general, huh? :3
KillJoii Well, all you have to do is filter out the games to your liking. Don't like Souls style games, don't buy Nioh. Think Bioware has list their touch after their last game, don't buy Andromeda at launch. Don't have a Switch, how you gonna play Zelda? Ghost Recon is ass. I hated the beta. Now you can get Nier.
Here's the thing...I can only afford one game for this month and I am TORN between Nier and Horizon. I guess it's a toss between INCREDIBLY well made but still kinda typical triple A open world game, or this gem of a JRPG? Man I cant decide
Toby K. I'm a huge platinum fan and started with horizon. So far it's its spectacular. If you don't mind waiting, horizon can keep you busy while you wait for nier to fall a bit in price
Toby K. well think of it this way do you want a slow paced combat stealth open world game which is horizon or a fast paced high octane action open world game? just some though
I would personally, HIGHLY recommend Horizon: Zero Dawn over this for now. I like this game too, but Horizon is just so well made, it truly speaks "Next Gen" when you play it. The graphics alone are awe-inspiring, and the world looks so gorgeous, almost making you wish you could visit it in real life, and the gameplay is always challenging, of which most of the big robots you come across in the game feel like an epic boss battle every time.
No forced dlc And no micro transactions. Plenty of content, hidden bosses weapons etc. countless times when I return to a location and something new arises. Chapter select. Buy Psn trophies. What more could you want
*The voice actor for 9S absolutely killed this. Some of the best voice acting I have ever heard- if you haven't gotten to ending E yet, do it. You'll see what I mean!!*
FYI if you pre-order the Asia/Chinese version of NIER, you get the soundtrack along with the Day One Edition content. The only problem is that it doesn't release until April.
Great review Karak, you did a thorough job conveying the strengths and depths of the game without spoiling anything, and you have a lovely turn of phrase and engaging vocabulary. 25 hrs into NieR: Automata (PC) and I'm loving it, the game is my current obsession and nothing else in my Steam pile of shame is seeing any love while I'm playing it (Night in the Woods, Tyranny, Torment, Duskers, even Overwatch is being put on hiatus while I'm irrevocably drawn into the world of NieR: Automata. I will say, though, that unlike yourself, I actually quite enjoyed Legend of Korra but found Transformers: Devastation to be a bit lackluster.
First time I see one of your reviews (I think). I just want to say they are actually pretty amazing. You definitely know what you're talking about, your style is pretty pleasant to watch (and hear) and you go in depth enough to actually learn what I need to learn about the game before deciding to buy , but you don't go too far in depth that it becomes a 30 minute video. It also helps that I think your video is actually the only legit Automata review as of now. Either way, you earned a new subscriber!
Thanks for the review. Watching it right now. Wanted to show my appreciation for what your style of reviews is doing for the industry. Keep up the good work!
Saying that Nier: Automata's soundtrack came in and "Spider Silva the entire music community" is both hilarious and apt, but also a little sad when you think of Anderson's current age and performances. Also, now I imagine daddy Nier as Rich Franklin, which is weird.
ACG At least they are above shard collecting. Thank goodness for that. Nice to see them being important to the story. Well, I can tolerate some stupid ones if they aren't the majority of the quests. Also I do hope the PC people get a Black Box Edition for Nier Automata. That figurine..😃
what do u mean by DA:I vs W3 side quest? i'm playing inquisition now, havent touch W3 yet, (got caught up with study/work). meaningless side quest is it?
Side quests in inquestion feel like filler mmo quests and witcher 3 has quests that have great stories that are as good as the main story from other games
Erik Lee not anyone. game has mature contents not suitable for dumb and naive youngsters. not to mention the number of adults who can't even comprehend the story, plot and characters (I'm talking about ign review for this game BTW).
I hate condescending assholes who berate anyone who dislike the game. I didn't like this game and I thought there are many games that are better at pacing and gameplay of this game. I still didn't finish and don't really care to. Nothing stood out to me honestly because its nothing special.
one of the little things I love in this game is when you use a spear type of weapon, during some of her animations she kicks it up into the air and it makes a little 'tink' sound as soon as her foot hits it. super subtle and easy to miss but a nice little touch.
I just finished my second playthrough and just started 3rd... HOLY SHEEEEEEEEEEEEET. How can this game get any better? Like I'm scared for whatever happens next within this plot.
Remember to look for a flight suit in the flooded city when you get to the part where you have to beat enemies there. It may......trigger some emotions for you. And don't forget to think about the story as you play on instead of simply taking in what's told. The game uses "show-don't-tell" quite extensively and requires you to connect the dots by yourself. However by doing so you also get to know the whole story, and enjoy the game even more!
I loved the demo and I am so happy you reviewed this. Platinum Games drop in price quickly so I will pick this up when it hits 30 or less. Great work as always Karak!
between this, Horizon Zero Dawn, Little Nightmares, Persona 5 and Tales of Berseria there have been a number of good games recently( and some upcoming ones) on ps4.. not enough money for them all right away.. more a matter of choosing what to get now and what to wait on..
I think this game is a shining example of why demos should still be a thing. I wasn't too big on this game for a while. Thought it looked nice, and seemed fun, but wasn't planning on getting it anytime soon. I happen to see the demo on the playstation store and decide to check it out since I was already kind of interested. After the demo, I can't fucking wait. If I hadn't played the demo, I likely wouldn't have gotten this game for a while if at all. The gameplay is just so much fun to me.
The music in this game is great, and it's the little details that really make the game shine, like lowering the volume of the music when you go into your room. Not only does it sound good, but it helps the place feel calmer, it's a great sounding game, and just a great game in general from what I've seen of it so far.
I haven't seen much of your videos (that changes this instant), but it says a lot about your character when you ask viewers to dislike your video if they had issues with it. That really demonstrates how much you care about improving the content you release for your viewers. You sir, have earned my subscription.
Great review, very informative and useful. Great detail and variety without spoiling the plot. Also, thank you for pronouncing it “auTOmata” and not “AUTOmata.”
Im so late but this game is fricking amazing! The theme, animations, ost, and gameplay are all awesome. This easily became one of my favorite games of all time. I hope platinum games make like a shinobi game with similar combat animations.
I have a friend who imported the game when it launched in Japan and said that he felt it was reminiscent of a classic PS2 JRPG (in the feel of anything's possible and there's so much love and care put into it). So combining that information with your review has me chomping at the bit for this to come out here. I'm really looking forward to it.
Put everything into attack and a nice offensive heal if I get hit, maxed out spear of the usurper and Axe of the twin. For 9s, give him a maxed out ancient overlord. Crit city baby. Pretty much everything dies in seconds.
ACG, I had never heard of you before this video, but this is by far one of the best reviews I've ever seen and if more reviewers were like you, I'd actually trust reviewers in describing video games. Subscribed. Great job on this review. I love the amount of detail and understanding you show for the little nuances in video games, especially where you talked about music. Nier Automata looks like an excellent game. In fact, Nier being one of my favorite games, I might even go so far as to say that I expect it to wind up being my favorite game. It looks like such a huge step up from its predecessor, which already had a really strong foundation as a game.
This was on the way to becoming my favorite game of all time pretty early on, but the final ending cemented it as that. What an incredible and unique experience.
Hey ACG, do you recommend getting this for the PS4 PRO or is it better to wait for the PC version you think? If it's just a port from console and PC won't really change anything then I am just going to get it for PS4 PRO (though I doubt I'd be playing it at 4K LOL).
King of the gameplay analogies. You know your doing something right when people watch your reviews (even if they know they wont be getting that particular title) because they are entertaining.
This year is nuts so far, already been some amazing releases and with Red Dead (hopefully not delayed), Mario Odyssey, Mass Effect, Ni No Kuni 2 and Persona 5 still to come. Hopefully MS will announce at least 1 essential title for the Scorp at E3 too. Also really happy to see your comments sections blowing up, looking forward to celebrating 250k, 500k and 1M subs with you soon!
ACG I've never been a big fan of these type of games but this one grabbed my interest. Even with the frame rate drops, the game still looks like it plays fairly smooth.
You won yourself one more sub. Have watched few of your reviews and really like your commentary on the games, not biased at all and you look like you have actually played a decent ammount of each game , which is great. Keep up the good work.
Good Review as always. Will definitely be getting this on PC after I 100% Horizon Zero Dawn and try to finish it before Mass Effect: Andromeda release. Doing all this before Persona 5 NA release on April 4... So much gaming to do but so little time.
I'm glad the music and voice work is still stellar. Thank you for not spoiling anything as I'm sure a lot of people are looking foward to some Yoko Taro Story madness
Pavith Five months late, but it’s great. I’ve played both Horizon and NieR: Automata, both have their ups and downs, but NieR: Automata is better in my opinion 👍🏻
Listening to this review made the demo ending make sense. I was wondering if they made it out intact, if it was a foreshadow, or if they just rebuilt the robots completely. Sounds like a Gundam story line.
i dont think this is gonna sell well (not bc it is bad in fact i think its great) bc of it realease date coming out 2 days after switch (really brath of the wild) a week after horizon 2 weeks before the new mass effect and 2 weeks after that persona 5. i do hope it does well though platinum makes some of the best hack and slash games today and are quite underated IMO.
Reminds of a bad ass anime. It looks spectacular in a bayonetta kind of way. It looks like a lot of fun to be honest, my type of game. I also like the environments, very reminiscent of a post apocalyptic world that used to be full of life. It conveys that sense of a large scale dystopia. And cmon, what's more awesome than fighting a giant fucking mech. It even PULLS a bayonetta with the 'endings'
God lord, I love the quick-witted analogies that this guy makes: "Playing someone's slow descent into madness as they watch Ghost in the Shell at some old person's home" freaking phenomenal. Not to mention that he also does an amazing job at so thoroughly reviewing the details of the game. Definitely have got a new fan in me
I'm about 8 hours in and it's a great game so far. The combat feels really good and the soundtrack is unique and very impressive. I don't really like the side quests all that much though and sometimes it can be tricky to find out exactly where you're supposed to be going but overall i like it. I hope it sells well.
Safe answer: Buy the game, you won't see this time of narrative plot in a couple of years, also the OST is beyond the highest quality.

Framerate dropping like GameStop stock! Damn. Burn.
but true
I think the Xbox version (if there will be one, not sure) will not have this problem since it ensures consistent frame delivery.
xbox is weaker than ps4. if ps4 has fps drops, xbox is gonna have more fps drops
SapiaNt0mata Nope, xbox has better frame rate on most games. Most recent one I can think of is ffxv. Ps4 just has better resolution

Nier and by extension Platinum have a good strong following so I have a feeling it's gonna sell well.
Okay
I just gotta tell you karak, I don't think I've ever watched one of your reviews without literally laughing out loud at least once. Thanks for that and cheers!
Glad you dig them mark
Anyone else absolutely love the rollercoaster scene, so amazing.
I kind of figured this game will eventually become a hidden gem among fans, I find it sad seeing this game on shelves fully stocked. this game is amazing!
agreed
KixMayne91 well it's not a hidden gem now ..every one knows about it now and sold quite well
I really like how you're review games. Just how you go in depth of everything, to trying to understand a game. You just sound like a natural. I'm really glad I subscribed to you.
thanks man
Horizon, Zelda, Nier all in one week. Too many good games not enough time, what a wonderful dilemma!!
ya its a pretty insane damned couple months
Best Platinum game? Man, if that's the case, I'm in for a real treat!
for ME
I couldn't expect any less from such colaboration.
It looks nice but damn, unfortunate that so many other "more popular" AAA games are right before it; i.e Horizon: Zero Dawn, Zelda, Mass Effect, Ghost Recon etc.
ya so many titles
Yea, and that's on top of the games people might already be playing. It would be nice not to have to go to school, work or socialize in general, huh? :3
lol
KillJoii Well, all you have to do is filter out the games to your liking.
Don't like Souls style games, don't buy Nioh.
Think Bioware has list their touch after their last game, don't buy Andromeda at launch.
Don't have a Switch, how you gonna play Zelda?
Ghost Recon is ass. I hated the beta.
Now you can get Nier.
Damion Dixon lol
Here's the thing...I can only afford one game for this month and I am TORN between Nier and Horizon. I guess it's a toss between INCREDIBLY well made but still kinda typical triple A open world game, or this gem of a JRPG? Man I cant decide
I think Nier man since its kinda unique
Toby K. I'm a huge platinum fan and started with horizon. So far it's its spectacular. If you don't mind waiting, horizon can keep you busy while you wait for nier to fall a bit in price
Toby K. nier need your support more
Toby K. well think of it this way do you want a slow paced combat stealth open world game which is horizon or a fast paced high octane action open world game? just some though
The 'Gamestop Stock' had me spill my coffee..
lol
I heard that and was like DAMN. Karak is taking shots. lol
when you said the music is better than the originals, I started hyperventilating. I'm so excited!
It blows my mind how good it is
No forced dlc And no micro transactions. Plenty of content, hidden bosses weapons etc. countless times when I return to a location and something new arises. Chapter select. Buy Psn trophies. What more could you want
Stable PC version.
great review man, your quality consistency just got you another patreon
thanks tom
Either way, you earned a new subscriber!
glad you like them
Thanks for the review. Watching it right now. Wanted to show my appreciation for what your style of reviews is doing for the industry. Keep up the good work!
thanks Army
You and Angry Joe are the only reviewers I trust.
Brndnrchrdsn85 angry joe??!!😂 worst gamer ever
That soundtrack tough, my god. It reminds me of ghost in the shell and Akira. Good stuff for sure.
its amazing
"diving like gamestop stock"
well played sir, well played
My nier automata review "buy, buy for buy, buy, never not buy?"
These reviews of yours are really well scripted and INCREDIBLY informative!! Keep up the great work! WOW!
thanks Zen
Saying that Nier: Automata's soundtrack came in and "Spider Silva the entire music community" is both hilarious and apt, but also a little sad when you think of Anderson's current age and performances. Also, now I imagine daddy Nier as Rich Franklin, which is weird.
Very thorough so instant subscribe. Now I'm waiting for Life of Black Tiger review, which is 10/10
Thanks Tin
Hey Karak. Sorry if I missed this in your review. But how are the side quests in this game? On a scale of Dragon Age:Inquisition to Witcher 3?
above DA below W3. As I said in the review many of them really matter to the main story and give you more info. But there are some stupid ones
ACG by stupid you mean some weird interesting ones, or purely stupid shouldn't put in the game?
Side quests in inquestion feel like filler mmo quests and witcher 3 has quests that have great stories that are as good as the main story from other games
This is one of the best games I've played in a long time. I'd recommend it to anyone.
Man each time I remember the first nier and every time I see Emil in this, I tear up a bit... I need to play the original one again
one of the little things I love in this game is when you use a spear type of weapon, during some of her animations she kicks it up into the air and it makes a little 'tink' sound as soon as her foot hits it. super subtle and easy to miss but a nice little touch.
Astraldymensions yeah, the beginning of playthrough 3 is epic
Thank you lol.
What did you think of the third playthrough ? :D
Amazing. In my top 10 games of all time. And I've been gaming for some 15 years now.
Now this is a thorough spoiler free review.
Subbed
I loved the demo and I am so happy you reviewed this. Platinum Games drop in price quickly so I will pick this up when it hits 30 or less. Great work as always Karak!
thanks
SO MANY GOOD GAMES!!! MY WALLET CANNOT HANDLE THIS!
DescendIntoMadness 4000 I laughed so hard to this comment because I'm doing exactly the same 😂😂😂
between this, Horizon Zero Dawn, Little Nightmares, Persona 5 and Tales of Berseria there have been a number of good games recently( and some upcoming ones) on ps4.. not enough money for them all right away.. more a matter of choosing what to get now and what to wait on..
NieR always had amazing OST. Keiichi Okabe is god and Emi Evans has a voice of an angel.
The music in this game is great, and it's the little details that really make the game shine, like lowering the volume of the music when you go into your room. Not only does it sound good, but it helps the place feel calmer, it's a great sounding game, and just a great game in general from what I've seen of it so far.
I don't think it's possible to "never touch" a game with booty like that.
I haven't seen much of your videos (that changes this instant), but it says a lot about your character when you ask viewers to dislike your video if they had issues with it. That really demonstrates how much you care about improving the content you release for your viewers. You sir, have earned my subscription.
the only thing im wondering... is why are the weapons 2 feet off their backs? lol
For me this game is GOTY 2017 . Its story , combat system , characters , etc ; it's simply unique . Also its ending that I'll never forget
This game is 100/10. Masterpiece.
Holy shit! At 6:56 that ladder sequence looks like it's straight outta MGS 3 Snake eater! Love the review btw Karak!
loved the review (just like always the intro was on point)
thanks Patel
I have a friend who imported the game when it launched in Japan and said that he felt it was reminiscent of a classic PS2 JRPG (in the feel of anything's possible and there's so much love and care put into it). So combining that information with your review has me chomping at the bit for this to come out here. I'm really looking forward to it.
"teenage mutant ninja turtles: You just lost your house to us edition" I died
Put everything into attack and a nice offensive heal if I get hit, maxed out spear of the usurper and Axe of the twin. For 9s, give him a maxed out ancient overlord. Crit city baby. Pretty much everything dies in seconds.
Looks really great, Can't afford it at the moment but it's at the top of my list!
Kate McNamara 11 months later...on sale this weekend
ACG, I had never heard of you before this video, but this is by far one of the best reviews I've ever seen and if more reviewers were like you, I'd actually trust reviewers in describing video games. Subscribed. Great job on this review. I love the amount of detail and understanding you show for the little nuances in video games, especially where you talked about music.
Nier Automata looks like an excellent game. In fact, Nier being one of my favorite games, I might even go so far as to say that I expect it to wind up being my favorite game. It looks like such a huge step up from its predecessor, which already had a really strong foundation as a game.
thanks
Dropping like GameStop stock, that's a great mic drop 🎙
This was on the way to becoming my favorite game of all time pretty early on, but the final ending cemented it as that. What an incredible and unique experience.
Hey ACG, do you recommend getting this for the PS4 PRO or is it better to wait for the PC version you think? If it's just a port from console and PC won't really change anything then I am just going to get it for PS4 PRO (though I doubt I'd be playing it at 4K LOL).
well pc might fix the fps issues
Are the FPS issues pretty frequent or is it just at certain parts? I can deal with certain parts.
certain parts
King of the gameplay analogies.
You know your doing something right when people watch your reviews (even if they know they wont be getting that particular title) because they are entertaining.
Had to pause the video at around 2:50 to like and subscribe. That Gamestop joke was just unexpected and funny.
thanks for subscribing Wave
This year is nuts so far, already been some amazing releases and with Red Dead (hopefully not delayed), Mario Odyssey, Mass Effect, Ni No Kuni 2 and Persona 5 still to come. Hopefully MS will announce at least 1 essential title for the Scorp at E3 too. Also really happy to see your comments sections blowing up, looking forward to celebrating 250k, 500k and 1M subs with you soon!
I know it is seriously the oddest first 3 months of a year I can remember and the last 3 months last year was insane
Excellent review
sup brother thanks!
ACG I've never been a big fan of these type of games but this one grabbed my interest. Even with the frame rate drops, the game still looks like it plays fairly smooth.
it does
You won yourself one more sub. Have watched few of your reviews and really like your commentary on the games, not biased at all and you look like you have actually played a decent ammount of each game , which is great. Keep up the good work.
thank you hugo
A Visionaries reference... as if you weren't already my favorite reviewer :)
I had to man. It reminded me instantly of that
Good Review as always. Will definitely be getting this on PC after I 100% Horizon Zero Dawn and try to finish it before Mass Effect: Andromeda release. Doing all this before Persona 5 NA release on April 4... So much gaming to do but so little time.
Will you be doing a persona 5 review
Love your reviews
I'm glad the music and voice work is still stellar.
Thank you for not spoiling anything as I'm sure a lot of people are looking foward to some Yoko Taro Story madness
I picked this game over horizon hope its great downloading now!
Omega Red how was it?
Pavith Five months late, but it’s great. I’ve played both Horizon and NieR: Automata, both have their ups and downs, but NieR: Automata is better in my opinion 👍🏻
Listening to this review made the demo ending make sense. I was wondering if they made it out intact, if it was a foreshadow, or if they just rebuilt the robots completely. Sounds like a Gundam story line.
ah ya it would make the demo make more sense now that i think about it
OMG the writing of this review is phenomenal! You are clearly overqualified for this.
I love your references. Both the line about dropping like gamestops stocks and the hayden christiansen line cracked me up.
thanks man
i dont think this is gonna sell well (not bc it is bad in fact i think its great) bc of it realease date coming out 2 days after switch (really brath of the wild) a week after horizon 2 weeks before the new mass effect and 2 weeks after that persona 5. i do hope it does well though platinum makes some of the best hack and slash games today and are quite underated IMO.
Arctic_Phoenix lol it blew out all then games lol
Reminds of a bad ass anime. It looks spectacular in a bayonetta kind of way. It looks like a lot of fun to be honest, my type of game. I also like the environments, very reminiscent of a post apocalyptic world that used to be full of life. It conveys that sense of a large scale dystopia. And cmon, what's more awesome than fighting a giant fucking mech. It even PULLS a bayonetta with the 'endings'
Thanks for the review
sure
God lord, I love the quick-witted analogies that this guy makes:
"Playing someone's slow descent into madness as they watch Ghost in the Shell at some old person's home"
freaking phenomenal. Not to mention that he also does an amazing job at so thoroughly reviewing the details of the game. Definitely have got a new fan in me
This game blew my mind.
Keln and I was blown while playing it haha!
ending E blew my mind.
especially when the chorus kicks in.
I'm about 8 hours in and it's a great game so far. The combat feels really good and the soundtrack is unique and very impressive.
I don't really like the side quests all that much though and sometimes it can be tricky to find out exactly where you're supposed to be going but overall i like it.
I hope it sells well.
