i couldn't help but keep thinking this game is reminiscent of Onimusha with a slight RPG flair. That being said Onimusha would be epic on next gen consoles, that series was way ahead of its time in many aspects. The graphics, story, variety of enemies, puzzles, I would love to see thst franchise make a comeback.
Nioh is the child of both Onimusha & Dark Souls when they got together.
Throw some Bushido Blade/Kengo in the mix with the stances and body part damage system, and you have a veritable Sengoku gangbang of love.
TAPETRVETVBE Going Ninja Build also made Nioh play like Tenchu~ ♡

Great review. You nailed the feeling of beating a boss in Nioh, "whew, finally." Compared to Dark Souls, "Yes! Finally." That's exactly how I felt after most of the bosses so far, but I still love this game. It's so damn fun.

When I discuss difficulty I am not saying its easy or anything. Just that there is at times a bit of a balance issue that I hope they look at.

ACG I'm a new gamer and don't want to waste money. Is this hard like Dark Souls/Bloodbourne? Is it mostly single player?
ACG Loufer is the man for giving you a copy! I posted on your last video that I hoped you would review this game. just picked it up and enjoy it more than Dark Souls.
It's about as hard as bloodborne I'd say- in general the normal enemies are slightly easier but some of the bosses are considerably harder as they seem to have ridiculous health pools unless you level up well. Great fun though and an absolutely MASSIVE game. Definitely single player focused.
ACG TBH even in Dark Souls & Bloodborne some bosses are really tough while some are easily beatable. This is not essential a bad thing for a game like this.. The devs purposefully used varied difficulty so that the gane won't be too hard to beat.

I'm a big Dark Souls fan, and while I was pretty sad that Bloodborne hasn't made it to PC yet, I got over it. But this game looks really fucking fantastic, too. So now with both of these games... I'm finally buying a console for the first time in over a decade! And great review as usual.

The Pro is probably worth it now with the new "boost" mode. It helped Bloodborne's performance a bit based on what I have seen (but not played).

vahnn0 Bloodborne isn't as good as any of the Souls games. it's still a great game, just dont go in super hyped or you may be dissapointed.
Well BB has been out for a while and I was never tempted to buy a PS4. It's Nioh that's making me consider it. Being able to play BB is just a bonus.
This game is very hard but very rewarding i highly recommend it, other then a couple similarities its very different from dark souls.

I personally never really got into the dark souls games so i couldnt compare the two HOWEVER, i will say that the game is very challenging but nowhere near unfair. If you die, youll know why you died
Evil Pig It's more mechanically complex but not harder. There's a lot of passive and active stats that make it more balanced.
+Austin Mcwhorter you're basically explaining dark souls. dark souls 1 was brilliant because you could explore the whole game seamlessly. no other game beats it, not even the sequels. if you enjoyed Nioh, i'm sure you'll fall in love with fromsoftwares games.
So hyped. I spent more time in the Nioh 2nd BETA than Dark Souls III in its entirety, between the combat, the weapons and getting my look just right by leveling up clothes, lol and the online helping others in levels I mastered, was just too much fun.

Another fantastic review! I love the format you use. It's not some quick in & out review; but you also don't drag on the same points for 30+mins. This game is amazing! My only complaint I've seen is the enemy variety is lacking. Just simply making them stronger isn't enough once you get to the later levels.

Loved the Souls series, actually enjoyed Lords of the Fallen. Loved all of the Ninja Gaiden games (arcade, nes and xbox). Really wanted to play this after seeing so many positive reviews, but did not have a PS4. Found a deal for a PS4 slim, with Nioh, Dishonored 2, and Infinite warfare (with modern warfare remake) from Newegg for 300 bucks. Needless to say, a purchase was made, and I anxiously await the day of delivery. Then, I saw your review, like 10 minutes after buying it. I am even more stoked now!
By the way, your reviews have convinced me on so many game purchases. I greatly appreciate your insight, and the time you take to do these videos!

Be sure to buy Bloodborne. Don't miss this diamond. One of the best games I've ever played and I've been playing since the 80's. Of course, I love Souls so go figure.
i've been gaming since the good ole colecovision days. a hobby that has lessened with age and family, but never ceased. Bloodbourne is a definite. Dark souls 3 i've already smashed on Xbox One. Actually found it to be the easiest out of all four of the main "souls" games. Maybe it's due to each iteration training me for the next?

Microsoft realllllly has to step up its game to be a contestant in the console market.
Nah, Microsoft is pulling a Nintendo and leaning towards a side console for the pc rather than a direct competitor which is for the best for xbox and pc.
If they only made those games compatibile with older windows - what they're doing now is just pushing for users upgrading to win 10 where I (and probably other like me) will not do that.
TheUmbrellaCorpX7 Yeah, like the only notable recent exclusives are Forza Horizon 3 and Halo Wars 2, which are both on PC for the Microsoft Store, so they're not really exclusives

I hated the Ki system, especially when the enemies put those dark pools on the floor that would prevent you from recharging your Ki unless you use the Active Ki system.

Nice review. I guess it makes sense with the sheer number of bosses in the game that a deal of them are less interesting, but you're still the first reviewer I've seen, well, less impressed with them. Good to see some variety in opinion, and happy to see Team Ninja put out a great game :P

important tip: In most menus if you press the "options" button, the game gives you a more in depth descriptions of what stats/attributes actually do. *note* it doesn't say what the elemental effects do for some reason.

Just played the prologue mission and tutorial, I'll give it another roung tonight but I won't be able to play a long session until weekend.
I have the impression that you didn't have the chance to play Bloodborne, could it be? You mention Souls quite often but I feel that Nioh shares a little more of Bloodborne than Souls (although they all seat in the same dinner table). If you didn't, find the way or time to do it, it's impressive.
And yeah, I don't expect Nioh to shine as brigth as Souls in certain aspects (level design, art direction, bosses) but the gameplay looks terrific and I'm glad to hear that music is great too, was one of my concerns.

Spot on review as usual. I picked this up release day and haven't had a chance to play yet. Most of the reviews are positive++ though, so I'm excited!
I'll need to take it slow, I'm not very good at these types. Samurai/Feudal Japan... instant buy for me though.
I picked up this game on Tuesday and still haven't started playing it yet. I'm the type of person who plays one game at a time. I'm still getting my fill with Resident Evil VII. Still gotta play the dlc as well. I'll get around to playing Nioh sometime soon. I played the demo and it's a really nice game. Great view though ACG!

I been helping people explore or beat the level as soon as i am done with that level. It's so much fun. I for one fucking love this game. I dont even care about the trophies but i platinumed the Bloodborne so i intend to do the same here.

Loved the game and the review. The only thing that I found odd is that I finished the game doing all submissions and I was still underleveled for the two last side missions and the NG plus... I find myself farming to meet the mission level... not really fun

Patience. Consistantly side step, never leap in towards his tail. Wait till he begins to breath electricity and rush in to the left side of his face right around the nexk. Attack and you will cause a good deal of damage. HIt with a full combo and rush out.

ACG I finally did it.
+San Tito if you stand far away from him he will cast thunder to the sky. it is exactly 4 lightning strikes. so on the third one rush to him and get some slices in. He will also roll at one point (when far from him) where he will expose himself, but do not follow him immediately, as lightning will trail him. then attack!
