Faster is not always better. I'm not impliying that his content nor this review may be bad. But Bethesda just started giving copies 24 hours ago, and unless he hasn't sleep it would not be possible to get a review this fast. Just saying.
Always nice to see a game that people weren't epecting a lot from actually turning out to be really enjoyable. I'm definitely going to pick this up because it falls right in the middle of a genre of games that doesn't see anywhere near enough love. Probably because it's one of the toughest game types to get right...
What are you talking about? Did you play Prey? I finished it on the 360 and it was an OK shooter with some cool physics but once the gimmick wore off all you had was a decent, however mediocre shooter. The mystical prey 2 bounty hunter game was something that was never going to live up to expectations. The graphics, game play and scope shown were never going to be possible on last generation's hardware, especially consoles. Also, the game just didn't seem that interesting, reminded me of Evolution. Hunting down aliens...really? How would that work? Chase alien into arena, fight alien boss style, rinse, repeat. You want to play a game that doesn't exist and if it had would have fallen far short of expectations.
Kimbap Tempura Preach it brother.. That game (in my opinion) is one of the most overrated games of all time. It’s up there with Half Life 2 (don’t kill me) the incomplete edition. Prey on the 360 was just ok.. No more no less. It was not this revolutionary experience that would change the way we play FPS games today. If you love it meh alrighty then more power to ya. To see someone act like a total fool about a game that was borderline above average is completely nuts to me. Point is fuck off for attacking that dude because he enjoyed a fucking video game that you didn’t care for

CZ Productions Angry Joe is pretty bad. Most of his reviews are super long but full of "funny" sketches instead of any real content. Plus he hardly reviews anything. ACG is way better than him.

Xbox One game version was mainly played(thanks to the patron for the copy 2 days early, not review copy), pic posted in discord as normal for proof Sadly some times the PS4 wouldn't sync well with the capture card. Sorry for the stutters. Game does not have them. When playing it with patrons we found at least 5-7 different points that would effect the end game. Not sure how many endings there are. While there were a couple sound issues the game just got better and if you experience the first 5 hours you have seen nothing. 10 still not nearly everything. Its that last 1/3rd that is insane.

Im having a hard time getting into his long 25 cent worded narratives. Its like hes trying to impress a past teacher. Maybe what im experiencing is too heavily scripted and fast paced that it just doesn't feel authentic. Ya I think I put my finger on it. He never pauses. Reading a script very fast that he ran thru a thesaurus. Maybe pepper in some gameplay footage of yer normal voice as it encounters the game live not scripted? I don't know. Informative though. *shrugs*
This game never seemed to get the recognition it deserved. I think it just had alot of bad circumstances during it's release. people were upset that it was such a drastic change from prey 2's trailer, it released kinda soon after big game releases like zelda botw, hzd etc. Then bethesda stopped giving out review copies which pissed everyone off. so either people just ignored it or hated it from the get go. I was one of those people that didn't want to touch it because I wanted prey 2 instead. I was so wrong. I bought it for $20 during black friday and couldn't believe how superb it is. I regret not paying full price because it deserves it. If you want a great singleplayer game the likes of system shock, bioshock, deus ex etc. this is it. The level design and gameplay systems are so open ended and enjoyable. It has amazing set pieces, graphics, level design, sound design etc. Hands down the best story driven fps game I've played since bioshick. In fact I'm currently playing through system shock 2 again cause of how much prey reminded me how good those types of games are and surprisingly there's quite a bit in prey that is better than the likes of bioshock 1, system shock 2 etc. looking at the meta score that is around 70 is criminal. To me this is no doubt a game that will recieve it's due in the years to comes much like MGS2, Dragons dogma, Windwaker etc. this game is worth every penny, GET IT!
I'm playing my first run on hard and it's been great fun and I'm liking how it doesn't push you to pick certain skills. You don't unlock the alien skills right away but I've left them completely untouched and I'm still doing fine i'm not sure how much is left but I'm sure i've passed the halfway point. I think next time I might try and do only alien powers to see if that works just as well.

D Campbell I played that 1 hour demo for 4 and a half hours and loved every damn second. I played it sunday night and this has been the longest week waiting for the full game.
I personally DESPISE jump scares but find the actual gameplay appealing. Do you think its possible for someone to overcome that aspect or get used to it and enjoy the core gameplay or should I expect cheap scares for hours on end and eventually regret my purchase? EXAMPLE: I was barely able to finish Metro Last Light because of gnarly jump scares but did finish it but that would be my absolute max tolerance. Thanks for the coverage!
nothing about this game immediately screams GOTY, but it might well be mine (I've played horizon and persona 5). No one but arkane makes games like these anymore. It reminded me of the first time I played the first deus ex which is an experience that even eidos Montreal weren't able to recreate with human revolution. I'm not surprised to be honest, a lot of the development team are former Ion storm and looking glass guys. These guys are masters of emergent gameplay and narrative, simulation, environmental storytelling and sandboxes.
As soon as I heard Bethesda "released" a new game and the opening day demo was out, I just needed to try it. This is game just amazing, graphics, gameplay, all of that. I love the most when I am fighting an operator and I float down from above and smash it so hard that it falls onto the ground. *Heffy4Life*
Even thought I'm a bit late to the party, your sentiment is totally understood regarding Deus Ex. I had the same feeling of immersion in both games. These gems are so very rare (in this case, it took 17 years before something as succesful came by.
Yes and no. Not during gamepay, like talking to himself but there are many points you do hear the protagonist speak. Awesome game, trust me, check it out. I was blown away by it.
You're welcome. Get it ASAP and do not read or watch anything more on the game if you can help it. This is the kind of game that knowing too much before hand will only hurt the overall experience. A mind-bending story, a lot of mystery and plot twists to look forward to, so watch out for spoilers. I'm not even finished the game yet, guessing I've finished about 50-60% of the main story, with 40-50 hrs logged in, almost a dozen side objectives/quests I still need to do and I'm still coming across more side objectives the further along I get into the game. My advice is when you finally play the game, take your time, it starts a bit slow however continually gets better as you go along, stick with it and you'll be rewarded. There's at least 2 endings, and with how the level design, gameplay and skill tree upgrades work, there's a bunch of replay value as well. So far with what I've experienced, IMHO, Prey is a GOTY 2017 contender.

Prey *looks* original and imaginative and FUN and for the most part it is but it falls awfully short on all fronts. The gameplay is kinda sloppy, the level design isn't clever enough, there aren't enough weapons or interesting powers, and the game is a pretty obvious poor man's rip off of Looking Glass games like System Shock and Deus Ex. And yeah ACG is 110% honest in his reviews and he digs deeper into games than most reviewers have any business delving, but in some bizarre way I think he isn't tough *enough* on the games he reviews. Still, I really admire the apparent lack of pessimism in his reviews.

It's such a shame that this game ended up being called Prey, because by the looks of it (and from what I've played so far) this is a great game...that many people are going to ignore just because Prey 2 didn't happen instead. Oh, and Bethesda's bullshit review policies, combined with that little bit of douchery with the Prey trademark lately, and Denuvo being used on the PC version (despite the performance actually being really good this time, unlike Dishonored 2) it's gonna make even more people turn their back at this : (
I think you are absolutely right, unfortunately. Well, with that said I hope Bethesda's review policy will come back and bite them in the ass in some form or another, because it is so anti-consumer and I don't want other game companies to follow suit. Bethesda does make good games, though, and this game seems to be one of them.
I'll actually buy it. I didn't play the first Prey though, and from what i've seen its not my jam. This looks pretty solid, and its been a while since i've bought a game full price. I tend to wait for GOTY editions and sales. Bethesda earned my money , despite my issues with their review policy.

Salami Samurai I haven't encountered any game breaking glitches nor bugs. Enemy designs can be plain at times but the way they warp and how they interact makes them unique or at least different from what I've seen in a while. Perhaps you didn't like the deco style, its subject anyways. Gameplay is smart and intuitive, well place designs which reminds me of Deus Ex or Dishonor. Well the game isn't a horror game but they wanted to create enemies where they would interact in a more different matter then what you'd usually see. All in all I'd say its well worth it.
This guy is the master of "run on sentences;" and somehow it just works. Karak's rapid-fire cadence of descriptions of the game he's reviewing accompanied by the often-humorous metaphorical comparisons to similar games/movies creates a review system that simply feels more complete.
I was thinking about getting this last Saturday, ended up getting watchdogs 2 with my new PS4 slim and I have been having a blast! For me, I made to best choice. Honestly prey looks like a play once and you're done type of game and I don't really mess with any game I can't enjoy long after the campaign.

Steve I there wasnt any release of the full version released to anyone, if they didn't put it out for review before release it wasn't available to anyone before release... if it was any reviewer could just get hold of a copy and review it. that coupled with the fact he actually said expect 12 hours gameplay from it (I didn't actually realise he said that until I'd already commented I assume it's short)
I hear this game being compared to Half-Life a lot, and the entire Half-Life franchise is my absolute favorite franchise of all time, might consider picking this up

This game is so good. It's the only game I can think of where you actually want to find out what happened to everyone. Also one of a handful of games where while there are some treasure hunt side quests, most of the side objectives feel more like part of the story, and you actually want to do them. I was hoping you'd bring that up, but you've always done great reviews, and this is no exception.

I just finished the Demo...(PS4) And boy oh boy, i love the setting. The only two major issues i had were the music (why does it freak out all the time and doesn´t want to stop) and the way he holds the pistol... It bothers me really hard, when weapons are not held the direction the crosshair is showing! Nice video and thank you!

people are likening Prey to Bioshock IN SPAAAAAAAAACE!!! But if Bioshock was more focused on combat and System Shock and Deus Ex and Thief were more focused on navigating the levels using a plethora of creative methods, Prey falls faaaaar short on both fronts. The combat's kinda lame and Prey doesn't have near enough options when it comes to exploration. srsly though. I've played it. The resemblance to Bioshock and the Shock series in general is apparent, and Prey is more similar to System Shock than Bioshock. But for one of these metroidvania styled open world sims Prey falls faaaaaar short of the likes of System Shock and Deus Ex or Thief in terms of what options you have to play your way.

To be fair the shotgun is meant to sound weaker, it is suppressed and is probably sub-sonic to avoid damaging the environment and hull breaches. Chars in the game lampshade this too.
I know you do not particularly like using the rating system but how would you rate the game from 1 to 10. I usually use multiple reviews to decide if I should buy a game but since none are up at the moment and you are one of the reviewers I trust the most, I would like your input if possible.

I love how open this game is, the FIRST thing I did was go into space and they NAILED how an object should move in space, I mean, accelerating at 9.99m/s while avoiding objects while motivating a linear vertical then switch horizontal movement is spectacular, only problem so far is the audio, if your in a hallway and decide to play halfsies between the hallway and a room then the audio goes bonkers at times, also when I'm face deep in detail and then the SCREEECH of an enemy just kinda feels off in a way idk, great game 8/10

I regret not paying full price because it deserves it. If you want a great singleplayer game the likes of system shock, bioshock, deus ex etc. this is it. The level design and gameplay systems are so open ended and enjoyable. It has amazing set pieces, graphics, level design, sound design etc. Hands down the best story driven fps game I've played since bioshick. In fact I'm currently playing through system shock 2 again cause of how much prey reminded me how good those types of games are and surprisingly there's quite a bit in prey that is better than the likes of bioshock 1, system shock 2 etc. looking at the meta score that is around 70 is criminal. To me this is no doubt a game that will recieve it's due in the years to comes much like MGS2, Dragons dogma, Windwaker etc. this game is worth every penny, GET IT!

I'm playing my first run on hard and it's been great fun and I'm liking how it doesn't push you to pick certain skills. You don't unlock the alien skills right away but I've left them completely untouched and I'm still doing fine i'm not sure how much is left but I'm sure i've passed the halfway point. I think next time I might try and do only alien powers to see if that works just as well.

D Campbell I played that 1 hour demo for 4 and a half hours and loved every damn second. I played it sunday night and this has been the longest week waiting for the full game.
I personally DESPISE jump scares but find the actual gameplay appealing. Do you think its possible for someone to overcome that aspect or get used to it and enjoy the core gameplay or should I expect cheap scares for hours on end and eventually regret my purchase?
EXAMPLE: I was barely able to finish Metro Last Light because of gnarly jump scares but did finish it but that would be my absolute max tolerance. Thanks for the coverage!

nothing about this game immediately screams GOTY, but it might well be mine (I've played horizon and persona 5). No one but arkane makes games like these anymore. It reminded me of the first time I played the first deus ex which is an experience that even eidos Montreal weren't able to recreate with human revolution. I'm not surprised to be honest, a lot of the development team are former Ion storm and looking glass guys. These guys are masters of emergent gameplay and narrative, simulation, environmental storytelling and sandboxes.
As soon as I heard Bethesda "released" a new game and the opening day demo was out, I just needed to try it. This is game just amazing, graphics, gameplay, all of that. I love the most when I am fighting an operator and I float down from above and smash it so hard that it falls onto the ground.

Even thought I'm a bit late to the party, your sentiment is totally understood regarding Deus Ex. I had the same feeling of immersion in both games. These gems are so very rare (in this case, it took 17 years before something as succesful came by.

Yes and no. Not during gamepay, like talking to himself but there are many points you do hear the protagonist speak. Awesome game, trust me, check it out. I was blown away by it.

You're welcome. Get it ASAP and do not read or watch anything more on the game if you can help it. This is the kind of game that knowing too much before hand will only hurt the overall experience. A mind-bending story, a lot of mystery and plot twists to look forward to, so watch out for spoilers.
I'm not even finished the game yet, guessing I've finished about 50-60% of the main story, with 40-50 hrs logged in, almost a dozen side objectives/quests I still need to do and I'm still coming across more side objectives the further along I get into the game. My advice is when you finally play the game, take your time, it starts a bit slow however continually gets better as you go along, stick with it and you'll be rewarded.
There's at least 2 endings, and with how the level design, gameplay and skill tree upgrades work, there's a bunch of replay value as well. So far with what I've experienced, IMHO, Prey is a GOTY 2017 contender.

Prey *looks* original and imaginative and FUN and for the most part it is but it falls awfully short on all fronts. The gameplay is kinda sloppy, the level design isn't clever enough, there aren't enough weapons or interesting powers, and the game is a pretty obvious poor man's rip off of Looking Glass games like System Shock and Deus Ex.
And yeah ACG is 110% honest in his reviews and he digs deeper into games than most reviewers have any business delving, but in some bizarre way I think he isn't tough *enough* on the games he reviews. Still, I really admire the apparent lack of pessimism in his reviews.

It's such a shame that this game ended up being called Prey, because by the looks of it (and from what I've played so far) this is a great game...that many people are going to ignore just because Prey 2 didn't happen instead. Oh, and Bethesda's bullshit review policies, combined with that little bit of douchery with the Prey trademark lately, and Denuvo being used on the PC version (despite the performance actually being really good this time, unlike Dishonored 2) it's gonna make even more people turn their back at this : (

I think you are absolutely right, unfortunately. Well, with that said I hope Bethesda's review policy will come back and bite them in the ass in some form or another, because it is so anti-consumer and I don't want other game companies to follow suit. Bethesda does make good games, though, and this game seems to be one of them.
I'll actually buy it. I didn't play the first Prey though, and from what i've seen its not my jam. This looks pretty solid, and its been a while since i've bought a game full price. I tend to wait for GOTY editions and sales. Bethesda earned my money , despite my issues with their review policy.
Yes, the original Prey wasn't a lot like this. I really enjoyed the first one's style, but this game looks very good and a lot different from what the original offered.

Salami Samurai I haven't encountered any game breaking glitches nor bugs. Enemy designs can be plain at times but the way they warp and how they interact makes them unique or at least different from what I've seen in a while. Perhaps you didn't like the deco style, its subject anyways. Gameplay is smart and intuitive, well place designs which reminds me of Deus Ex or Dishonor. Well the game isn't a horror game but they wanted to create enemies where they would interact in a more different matter then what you'd usually see. All in all I'd say its well worth it.
This guy is the master of "run on sentences;" and somehow it just works. Karak's rapid-fire cadence of descriptions of the game he's reviewing accompanied by the often-humorous metaphorical comparisons to similar games/movies creates a review system that simply feels more complete.

I was thinking about getting this last Saturday, ended up getting watchdogs 2 with my new PS4 slim and I have been having a blast! For me, I made to best choice. Honestly prey looks like a play once and you're done type of game and I don't really mess with any game I can't enjoy long after the campaign.

God NO!! If Prey is System Shock 3 then that just means they're continuing the trend of regressive sequels with less polish and fewer options than the previous entry.

I have to give you your props. I respect your reviews. I watch other youtubers that give reviews but sometimes they take longer. You reviews are short, detailed, and straight to the point. No number system either. The number systems sucks because it all comes down to whether you will buy it or not this is where I come to you for your opinion. All I want to know is should I buy it or not and you always have the answer. I've been watching you for a bit and I applaud your professionalism and consistency of your reviews. I love your review format which I feel should be the standard of most reviews
This game is so good. It's the only game I can think of where you actually want to find out what happened to everyone. Also one of a handful of games where while there are some treasure hunt side quests, most of the side objectives feel more like part of the story, and you actually want to do them. I was hoping you'd bring that up, but you've always done great reviews, and this is no exception.

people are likening Prey to Bioshock IN SPAAAAAAAAACE!!!
But if Bioshock was more focused on combat and System Shock and Deus Ex and Thief were more focused on navigating the levels using a plethora of creative methods, Prey falls faaaaar short on both fronts. The combat's kinda lame and Prey doesn't have near enough options when it comes to exploration.
srsly though. I've played it. The resemblance to Bioshock and the Shock series in general is apparent, and Prey is more similar to System Shock than Bioshock. But for one of these metroidvania styled open world sims Prey falls faaaaaar short of the likes of System Shock and Deus Ex or Thief in terms of what options you have to play your way.

To be fair the shotgun is meant to sound weaker, it is suppressed and is probably sub-sonic to avoid damaging the environment and hull breaches. Chars in the game lampshade this too.

Prey 2017: The Half Life 3 that was never made.
I love how open this game is, the FIRST thing I did was go into space and they NAILED how an object should move in space, I mean, accelerating at 9.99m/s while avoiding objects while motivating a linear vertical then switch horizontal movement is spectacular, only problem so far is the audio, if your in a hallway and decide to play halfsies between the hallway and a room then the audio goes bonkers at times, also when I'm face deep in detail and then the SCREEECH of an enemy just kinda feels off in a way idk, great game 8/10
