    A couple of hopefully helpful tips to save you some time.
    1. Use Ctl+L instead of the clear command.
    2. After extracting a tar.gz to create a directory, r-click on the directory and select Open in Terminal to get a terminal in the extracted directory.

    Hi @KM4ACK thanks for the update on that, I have hamlib2 4.0 installed on my laptop and could not program my Yaesu FT-7800 as hamlib2 4.0 have seemed to have dropped support for it, had me wondering what was going on which I now do. So no upgrading desktop till this issue is fixed as it only way can program the Yaesu FT-7800. Anyway thanks for the tip and keep up the great work. 73 de VK5ZSH

    I recently lost use of flrig after an update but rigctl still works. Should I look into this. Using Xiegu g90 and FTDI works on my Mac and Pc.

    I have been trying to get Gpredict to control my radio, do you have a video showing this process? I installed the build a pi suite of apps and SSTV and FT8 modes all work but I want Gpredict for Doppler shift tracking.

    Jason this technique doesn’t seem to work for the new Hamlib 4.5.5 install. Do you think you could put out a new video for it? I’m on pi 4 bookworm. Thanks!

      As soon as I get a Pi 5 in my hands, I am sure there will be more videos with it.

    Should a ‘default’ hamlib be installed by build-a-pi when gpredict (and probably other apps) is selected for install, or is there a way to select a default install by build-a-pi?

      Mainly that 4.1 supports some of the newer radios on the market.

    HI Jason, Thank you for a very informative video.
    For the past few weeks now I've been trying to overcome a very annoying fault with the Rig Control installation on my PI 4.
    I'm running the "Raspbian GNU/Linux 11 (bullseye)" instance and on each installation (5 clean builds now) I get the same issue:
    pi@raspberrypi:~/Downloads/hamlib/hamlib-4.4 $ rigctl -l
    rigctl: symbol lookup error: rigctl: undefined symbol: cookie_use
    I must add that prior to attempting the update to hamlib-4.4, the command 'rigctl' was not even recognised!
    I've hunted around the net for any similar issues, however none quite seem to match this one.
    Using WSJTX, the application interacts with the rig as expected, (both CAT and Audio control) right up until the TX process begins, then usually after a few seconds it bombs out with:
    Hamlib error: Protocol error
    rig_get_vfo: returning -8(Protocol error
    0000 fe .
    read_block_generic(): Timed out 3.3097 seconds after 1 chars
    read_block_generic(): Timed out 3.3097 seconds after 1 chars)rig_get_vfo: elapsed=3009ms
    rig.c(2587):rig_get_vfo return(-8) Protocol error
    rig_get_vfo: returning -8(Protocol error
    0000 fe .
    read_block_generic(): Timed out 3.3097 seconds after 1 chars
    read_block_generic(): Timed out 3.3097 seconds after 1 chars)rig_get_vfo: elapsed=3009ms
    rig_get_vfo: elapsed=3009ms while getting current VFO
    Timestamp: 2022-08-30T15:31:34.176Z
    I don't quite know how to further investigate the issue or produce more detailed error logs.
    Any help would be appreciated.

      You have two instances of hamlib installed. One that was installed with apt and the other that is built from source. To remove the one installed with apt, run: *sudo apt purge -y libhamlib4*
